Nice day for my Vita - grabbed Escape Plan, will d/l Virtue's Last Reward on the PS3 to transfer over later (after I get & finish 999) and will be picking up Muramasa Rebirth at lunch.  :D

Still fighting w/ this 8gb memory card.  I'm being very stubborn, these things will HAVE to come down pretty significantly in price eventually.  The most I can justify paying for the 32gb is $50.

Well, I was replaying my physical copy of VLR recently to understand the endings better. What was supposed to be a few minutes turned into hours because the game is so wonderfully written.

Enjoy everyone! You guys already know my position on playing the game and not playing 999, so always try and fix that.

I'm with you on that. I'm fighting my 8 and 4gb cards.

I feel like Muramasa is turning into Fire Emblem 2.0. Street date broken, no shipment dates, and no retailer has it....
Yeah, sorry to see that. I was excited when I saw newegg charge me, but now it's stuck in 'packaging'. Amazon has a 2-4 week estimate currently if that's to be believed.

Yeah, I was planning to buy the LE, but a last minute 2+ week vacation is causing me to have to cancel and just go digital once the store is back up

The question though is whether this is going to be something that results in it staying rare or if like Fire Emblem after a month or so it's available everywhere. I don't know how much support the publisher's going to give this though when Dragon's Crown is around the corner, FE was a huge game for Nintendo and first party so it was only a matter of time until they fixed that. Maybe I'll place an order on the LE if it's going to be 2-4 weeks and see how it plays out.

I just can't believe how expensive the Vita's memory cards are, especially the 32 GB.  This is why we need more competion, and less monopoly, in the market place.  Absolutely shameful of Sony to sell a 32 GB card at close to $100.

Well that's why you're welcome to buy a 3DS, iOS device, an Nvidia shield, etc. because those are your options for competition. If Sony went out and bought all those companies or prevented them from making a rival product then it's a monopoly. They're not obligated in any way to share their proprietary information with anyone else let alone so they can make a copy of a patented part anymore than any company would be. More of the problem is that Amazon by selling them for about $85 is probably already pushing the margins incredibly thin but there's no reason for Sony, who's likely making a significant margin on the cards, to want to drop the price of the cards until absolutely forced to. As a consumer it absolutely sucks but making money on every card instead of paying to license SD patents is something Sony's clearly fond of (see their history of memory formats).

This is a great week for the Vita.

Grabbed VLR, Hotline Miami and Escape Plan.

But in order to get all three I had to delete three PSone classics to make room on my memory card.

Yeah but I already have a 32GB memory card.

I wished they would have announced a larger size memory solution at E3 this year.

How's Hotline Miami on the Vita? So far I've read some mixed reviews. I was hoping to pick it up tonight.

It's not even close to a monopoly. The Vita even sells less than all the devices EldritchOnRye mentioned except the Nvidia Shield. That means Vita owners are forced to pay the premium for memory cards but prices will remain stable. I'd rather that be the case than be a 3DS owner when Nintendo poured millions into R&D for the 3D technology which has seen limited use, plus they have to recuperate for the loss of potential revenue when they matched the Vita's MSRP somehow.

You should still be able to get 16 GB Vita cards for $30 or 32 GB for $60 from AT&T stores. Don't try to price match at Best Buy, it probably won't happen.

I think he was saying that Sony should allow 3rd parties to manufacture cards, hence the use of the term monopoly. If they allowed 3rd party cards then the cost would inevitably go down.

PS+ for PS3, $50/year.

PS+ for Vita, use expensive Vita memory cards to subsidize the cost.

PS+ for PS4, require PS+ for multiplayer, make up the losses through volume.

End Result: You get PS+ across all 3 platforms for the same yearly price of $50. No need to bump the price up for those that don't have a particular PS device. Those who have all 3 devices can take advantage of all the benefits of PS+ across all PS devices for the same yearly price.

Don't expect Vita memory cards to go down in price, if my theory is correct.

Yeah that will never happen because they have no reason to. If they ever feel that's the singular issue sinking the Vita they'll finally do a price cut but then they'll still control it.

Maybe they would be a little cheaper but it's not like they'd ever hit the rock-bottom rates of SD memory or anything. The only case I can remember similar to this is when Panasonic made memory cards for Wii. (Or was it Game cube?) I can't remember how they were priced compared to Nintendo's or how Panasonic made out on the deal, but that's literally the only case I can think of, so I'm not sure if other companies manufacturing cards would be beneficial to anyone.

I think the real problem is that the price of the system and the memory cards are both so high. Getting both costs about as much as a full blown console, and even if the Vita is almost the same thing at this point, its a lot to ask for most people to drop on a handheld. Case in point I keep passing on Vita sales because memory cards destroy the discount. So I really hope Sony decides to drop ONE of them, at least a bit, though clearly they don't have much intention of doing so

Yeah, even paying $150 for the system I was at $220 with the card. How can you ask someone to buy the system at $250 then be at almost $350 when the PS4 is launch at $399, though I do think that leaving it there is intentional to further encourage people into the PS4 and they'll then address the Vita in the spring.

This is what I don't understand about the Vita. The thing has no internal storage at all? If I were to buy one and play some of the compatible PSP RPGs I have on a larger screen, I couldn't?

In order to download anything from the store or save a game i have to use a memory card?

My old :psp: Go is more digital than that.

But you're not one of the unwashed masses - you're a CAG! The CAG advantage: click on the cowboom (a Best Buy site) thread here and order a used Vita for $125. They say used but most are practically new.

I feel like the price of the VITA itself is fair as it is at $250. And I have constantly seen it hover around $200. So why is that so much? I feel like it should cost more than a 3DS at the least.

As for the memory cards. Stalk AWD as 32GB pop up at least once a week for $60 or less. Thats where I got mine and thought that was a fair price.

so... how good is Hotline Miami?  I've seen PC gamers say it was their GOTY for 2012 (or whenever it came out) and... I'm really hyped for it.  But should i just grab it?  Or wait for 6 months or whatever for a sale?  I'm not in need of a game this second, but I do need to balance the fence of 'poor' and 'wanting to support the best games coming to vita'.

I can attest to that. My 3G Vita came in pristine condition (6), it even included an 8GB memory card. After I unloaded the extras it came to a little less than a $100 for the Vita which is more then fair. Paid $48 for 32GB memory card off AWD.

So far I'm very happy with my purchase but at the same time I can see why folks complain. The price at MSRP is pretty steep after all is said and done.

I haven't got a lot of disposable income, so between a handheld and a console I will always go for the console. $250 isn't outrageous for what you get, but with a memory card I could almost afford a PS4. Obviously everyone has different opinions on what stuff is worth, but to me the full price of a Vita is more than I'm currently willing and able to pay.

Should of been here black friday. All in all i got my white vita, all stars, ac:liberation, 3 months of PS plus and a 32 GB memory card for ~$240. And have been extremely satisfied with the VITA. Just wish there was more games as I have nearly ALL of the retail based ones.

that's my plan at the moment. Hoping for a $199 bundle with a 8-16GB memory card, as I already have more than enough games thanks to PS+. That is a killer deal you got, no doubt about it :D

When you do get it check out Gravity Rush. Even All Stars feels great online while on VITA.

On a side note: I remember everyone attacking Ratchet and Clank: FFA on VITA. I have been playing it and dont see whats wrong with it. Yea it may not have VITA/PS3 quality graphics but it still looks a step up from PSP games. And it plays smoothly. Guess im just not so nitpicky.

It has some serious frame rate issues/clipping. I only played it for a bit and the screen stuttered multiple times. However, free is free so I'm not complaining.

its at the top of my list actually, despite the average reviews. And don't ask me why, but Plants vs Zombies is possibly the game I want to play most. All the improvements of the various versions rolled into one, can't wait to play it on the Vita (even if its the 4-5th time). I don't know, my priorities are rather strange sometimes

I finally got around to trying out FFA on the Vita yesterday and I thought it was trash.  I had no preconceived notions going in either, I hadn't heard the negative buzz about it.  The graphics did look psp-era to me, the font is difficult to read, the screen is dark and the load times are atrocious.  By comparison, Sly had long load times but it looked & played amazingly on the Vita.

I've played an hour into Hotline Miami on Vita, having never played it on PC. So far I'm really enjoying it. The controls take some getting used to but I haven't had too many problems with them. Just remember to lock onto people if you're doing anything more complicated than a single guy doorslam. You can lock on by touching them on the screen, and also with the square button. You can change the person you're targeting with the right analog stick. Other than controls it runs great, looks great, sounds great and is just a lot of fun to play. Definitely worth $10.

what is FFA?

what is FFA?
Ratchet and Clank: Full Frontal Assault. Something of a tower defense hybrid, the Vita release was pushed back over and over, and for the most part has had rather lousy reviews, even with the original not being particularly praised either.

EDIT: Ninja'd

I just played a little on my lunch hour and I agree. It is really fun and looks great on the Vita. I finished the first three chapters. I didn't know about the square button lock on I was using the touch screen to I will have to try that later. Overall I think it is a great port and well worth the money for the cross buy feature. There is also cross save with the PS3 version as well. I need to download the PS3 version when I get home from work to see how it plays on the big screen. I only had time to download the Vita one this morning.

Ah boo, missed out on the Sports Champions / Deadmund's bundle as well. I didn't see it in the OP, because it wasn't a part of the weekly update? Guessing it was a stealth sale?

When it comes to the Vita, I love the thing, but Sony just doesn't seem to care about it, a price drop to $200 should have happened last year (they still would have made a profit off it), and all memory card prices cut in half. Even though I own a Vita, from the Amazon super awesome Black Friday deal, its still frustrating to see Sony simply not give a damn about their own handheld with so much potential. :(
