So you aren't in the Home beta and you're telling me I'm wrong? You can tell me that you aren't saying that, but that doesn't make it true at all.
And how about you let the person who has actually PLAYED the beta be the one who ends the discussion, toots? The one who fires it up every so often to see if they added a new hairstyle or put a new elementary school flash programmer quality arcade game in the game room?
I'm not done until you get offa Sony's jock and enter the real world. I'm a big fan of my That Triple - I think it's an incredible system. But that doesn't mean that I think Home is amazing. I think it's a very boring dollhouse with awful games and zero interactivity that you can't get in online forums. Allow me to demonstrate.
(posts in game-specific thread on CAG): "Hey, who wants to play a game of CoD4?"
Wow. Home is just so amazing. Cuz' I can have a fauxhawk and a PS3 t-shirt virtually. And put a stylish couch in my virtual apartment.
There's a market for Habbo Hotel, man - and it's not going to be the PS3 demographic. The simplest way I can put it is this: copying the 360's achievement system should have been a very easy process: mandate "accomplishments" from developers, integrate a userscore into the XMB friendslist, and a few other bits and ends - and upload a system update. Instead, we get trophies and time and resources spent designing fifteen different recliners for the virtual apartment that are only virtually comfortable.
The not only overshot their goal, they missed the whole
in' point in the process. Mark my words (and I'll admit when I'm wrong, unlike a lot of people here): Home will be an enormous bust within two months of its launch. It's free, so everyone will try it out at first - but it'll be a ghost town in no time at all.
Marking your words...
one way to at least bring people back to home every so often would be to have press conferences from within the home universe, or give players the ability to attend GDC, TGS, CES, etc from home. Its all about how the community uses home. If CAG has a hub in home, kotaku etc, it could be interesting. Sony got the HOME environment working but at least give them a chance to put something in it. You're just a damn beta tester... all you know is if you walk down corridor 3 you wont fall through the floor, and you're testing basic functions.
Its like you're judging an entire movie based off previews alone..
you're better than that myke...
