Sony Playstation Home - Gen. Discussion & Info - Open Beta Available Now

I get the same way when I go into the 360 fourm. People be all up onz msofts dick.

Its like that pretty girl who you fall in love with and then she cheats on you, but you want more even after being treated like crap.

That the feeling I get while owning a 360.
You didn't answer my question before: are you in the Home beta? I'll get a righteous gutlaugh if some cat with no experience of Home is trying to tell me that my opinion is wrong.
I'm still waiting for TMK's answer to this.

Now wasn't this the most random post up in this thread. It seems like you are going out of your way to start a flame war with 360 fanboys, no?
So, um, what about the people who could give a fuck less about Home?

Hopefully I'll be able to just touch a button and have what I've ''accomplished'' show up instead of loading Home.
Then you don't go into home and wank off to the conformation that you got an accomplishment. Jesus, you guys complain about everything. If you don't like Home you don't have to use it its that simple.

Damn, gamers bitch at everything. "I DONT WANT TROPHIES! THEY ARE FAKE!!! I WANT NUMBERS!!" Why the hell is there an argument on this. It's like arguing that there is a new pudding flavor coming out, "NO I HATE MINT CHOCOLATE!!!"

You didn't answer my question before: are you in the Home beta? I'll get a righteous gutlaugh if some cat with no experience of Home is trying to tell me that my opinion is wrong.
I'm still trying to tell you that your beta is NOTHING like the final version of Home. Your beta is basically a very tiny portion of Home that probably isn't too exciting. I'm not trying to say your opinion is wrong, but you are trying to act like you played the final version of Home with everything complete, when it's still a long ways off. And btw, yes I have many friends in the Home beta who I share info with and still, it's nothing like the full version. A beta is just a small test, end of discussion.

I can't wait for Home though. I really want to go out with my PSN friends to various places, go bowling, have parties in my apartment, and so on.

There are certain things I really want to say, but I'm going to keep them silent since I don't want to get in any trouble.

So you aren't in the Home beta and you're telling me I'm wrong? You can tell me that you aren't saying that, but that doesn't make it true at all.

And how about you let the person who has actually PLAYED the beta be the one who ends the discussion, toots? The one who fires it up every so often to see if they added a new hairstyle or put a new elementary school flash programmer quality arcade game in the game room?

I'm not done until you get offa Sony's jock and enter the real world. I'm a big fan of my That Triple - I think it's an incredible system. But that doesn't mean that I think Home is amazing. I think it's a very boring dollhouse with awful games and zero interactivity that you can't get in online forums. Allow me to demonstrate.

(posts in game-specific thread on CAG): "Hey, who wants to play a game of CoD4?"

Wow. Home is just so amazing. Cuz' I can have a fauxhawk and a PS3 t-shirt virtually. And put a stylish couch in my virtual apartment.

There's a market for Habbo Hotel, man - and it's not going to be the PS3 demographic. The simplest way I can put it is this: copying the 360's achievement system should have been a very easy process: mandate "accomplishments" from developers, integrate a userscore into the XMB friendslist, and a few other bits and ends - and upload a system update. Instead, we get trophies and time and resources spent designing fifteen different recliners for the virtual apartment that are only virtually comfortable.

The not only overshot their goal, they missed the whole fuckin' point in the process. Mark my words (and I'll admit when I'm wrong, unlike a lot of people here): Home will be an enormous bust within two months of its launch. It's free, so everyone will try it out at first - but it'll be a ghost town in no time at all.

For those that have no interest in Home, would it be safe to assume you also have no interest in games like The Sims and Second Life?

I honestly don't know much about it, but when you look forward to "going places with online friends and having parties" I'm a bit confused. I can understand playing arcade games or bowling with friends online, but how are the prior two activities handled? You basically move around a room, enter text to speak and repeat? Actual, physical human interaction is a huge part of having parties. Just seems like you're gonna be limited by what you can do.
Parties in my virtual apartment.

Wow.
That's it, I'm tired of your sarcasm. You aren't invited to my party when Home is out.

More appropriately, I had no interest in Sims Online - and neither did the rest of the free world.

That may be the lamest thing I've ever read on this website, possibly the internet.

Funny thing is, had it been said by nearly anyone else, it would have been seen as sarcasm.
Does anyone know yet if the Accomplishment system is optional on the part of developers?
Probably optional. Sony stubbornly refuses to standardize anything when it comes to the PS3.

Marking your words...

one way to at least bring people back to home every so often would be to have press conferences from within the home universe, or give players the ability to attend GDC, TGS, CES, etc from home. Its all about how the community uses home. If CAG has a hub in home, kotaku etc, it could be interesting. Sony got the HOME environment working but at least give them a chance to put something in it. You're just a damn beta tester... all you know is if you walk down corridor 3 you wont fall through the floor, and you're testing basic functions.

Its like you're judging an entire movie based off previews alone..

you're better than that myke...

Seriously, we should have one and I'll do what I do at real parties; get absolutely destroyed, dance like there's no tomorrow and knock some random chick up.

Hopefully the final version of Home incorporates this.

I love how the guy who's posted in a fucking Video Game forum thread a shitload of times is making fun of people who want to get together with friends on Home. Ironic.

Awesome. Especially the misuse of the term ironic.

It'd be ironic if Zew made those statements then posted a thread "Who wants to meet up in World of Warcraft for an online pizza party!"

But what you're attempted to convey - that Zew is insulting someone who wants to get together with digital avatars of real friends and that is somehow very funny because he, in your opinion at least, spends time on an internet message board thereby has no friends (digital or otherwise) is not ironic.

Unless you're trying to be ironic by misusing the term.

Either way, your post isn't funny, ironic, or adds the conversation.

Back on track. Was this ever confirmed by Sony? Or is it just more internet rumor mill crap? I stopped following the thread yesterday.

I believe what they are attempting to convey is that Zew is insulting someone who wants to get together with digital avatars in a game world, while he posts with a digital avatar on a game message board.

The fact that the screenshots are fake was posted pages ago. Does not seem to have affected the conversation.

Wow didn't know zew had a little fan club... how cute.. I definitely see them meeting up on XBL, or home while having a pizza. cute..

Speaking of Home:

http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/02/21/home-beta-gets-a-significant-update-next-week/

Improvements to the UI and graphics engine mean that Home will look much prettier and be more functional from here on out. You will be able to check who's online from your friends list as well as who is in Home right now. A bubble machine has been made available to all beta testers, to test the new "Home Items" system. Video streaming is now made possible too, so you don't have to wait for a video to download completely before watching it.

The most exciting part of the update is the unveiling of the Marketplace in the main square. The Marketplace is stocked with clothes and furniture as well as other, undisclosed, content. We can't wait to see what's there. Game launching is also now available, though it is currently limited. Games can be started within Home, however the party will not be automatically generated within the game. Also, players with different versions of a game (such as American or European) won't be able to start a game together. The patch notes clearly state, however, that this is only temporary and will be fixed before launch.
Speaking of Home:
There goes any hope of Home making a surprise debut this month. Oh well.

Also, can we try to keep this a little more off-topic? That's been working out really well so far.

So I hear games are coming to the Zunepod?!?

I hope so, I have a Zune.
And I would like to play games on it.

I need more info on that.
I hope they have achievements.

Hmm, looks like I was right about devs making game specific items for Home use from reading the latest leaks.

Including weird things like crazy avatar heads. Like Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal.

(leaks from the Sony Home session that just went on at GDC)

*Update (30mins into presentation)

For a quick update, one key feature that the new PlayStation Home tools will allow for is the ability for developers to create custom clothing, furniture, and avatar heads for Home users. An example could be having an unlockable Sweet Tooth head from Twisted Metal for your Home character. Although, any heads created by developers will be static and will not be customizable by users. Other features shown include scene tools for creating private and public spaces and how to create a menu system for Home users to jump from Home into multiplayer games.

Update #2

Developers will be allowed to create Home Interactive Items. The first item shown was something called a "Bubble Machine" which users can pull out using their in-game PSP menu and drop on the ground. Other items talked about included a virtual camera, tv remotes, and footballs. Developers can produce items to both sell or giveaway. Also items in the game can be interactive (such as the football which uses Home physics) and be picked up and dropped. Items can have animations, collision, and audio. (Developer shows images, inlcuding a scene with 20-30 Home users dancing with Bubble machines all around)

You know, it is kinda nice to have exclusive/rare trophies.

I may have been the first person in NA to get the Metroid tube thing in Animal Crossing:WW on DS.

At least no site had confirmed it, and I was the first to post pics and video of it online.
I had tons of people friending me just to see the chirping metroid in my house.

This makes me want next gen AC more than Home though. :)

I'm getting a little more excited about home now. It'll be good as long as Sony and devs keep it filled with content.

That's what it's all about for me, as long as sony will stick with it and keep things fresh.

You were right, but that really wasn't new news. They said that a long time ago.

Devs can/will offer you unlockables you can use in home. And also... SELL you items/packs (could include new heads/clothing/wallpapers with themes based around their game for you apartment and so on) related to their games.

I like this thread because Myke goes up against Mana.

And we always know who wins when it's a "Myke vs" situation.

My only problem with home is how much pornography/crude content there could be on it. It's really going to be like secondlife/myspace and that appeals to me not one bit. Maybe even skewed younger, because it's a game console and most older gamers don't have time for something like that.

Myke's point is that he's played HOME and that he think that its crap, TMK saying that its not the full version, then after that.. Sony released news that tey're going to release a patch to revamp the HOME beta totally. So in this case TMK was right.. HOME isn't even finished... so how can anyone pass judgement.

You know, like myspace maybe you can set some apartments, or portions of home to accounts that have verified that they are owned by someone over the age of 18. Sony has to come up with something to deal with the possibility of adult content getting to minors..

How I read what Myke has been posting is that he was passing judgement on the Beta being absolute crap. Sure they can change and patch all they want but in his opinion it's not going to be enough thus falling into the catogory of still being crap.

I haven't tried Home myself but from what Myke and Zew posted, Home sounds pretty cheesy/corny. Who knows though, I guess there is a slim chance it could be good. Right?

I put a cowboy hat on my avatar yesterday.

EDIT: I just noticed a "myke vs mana" comment; look, I'm not singling anyone out here (christ, I'm not even part of the crew who was mocking Mana's "Home Party" idea, FWIW). I read the comments of someone who was telling me that my experience in Home is not what it's going to be like upon release - and otherwise implying that my opinion is incorrect, despite not having used Home themselves.

That's my issue - people who think that Twisted Metal heads and "bubble machines" will revolutionize the way we virtually socialize, while I'm arguing that a twisted metal head or a Ratchet and Clank trophy do not sufficiently alter how boring and unnecessary the program is at its very core. I spent 10 minutes placing furniture in my Home apartment last night, just to be sure - and then I see people with no experience saying "it's not a dollhouse."
