Group Buys - Updated 05/20

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales
Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

I've been playing Killing Floor and TF2 a lot - though ironically I got them during previous sales and never got around to them until this one. For things I bought *this* sale, I plan on playing through ME 1/2 just as soon as I finish Borderlands and Overlord, two games I also bought in previous sales and have been (slowly) working on ever since.

I've been playing a little bit of everything. Everyday Genius for the most part. Flight Control HD as well, but the touchpad control sucks. Just seems like it would be a lot better with an actual mouse. I can't wait to reformat my gaming rig and try out some of the games that don't run well on my laptop.

I haven't decided which single player game I am going to tackle first. Most likely Ceville or Runaway. I've been wanting to dive into a new adventure title.

I've been playing Everyday Genius:Square Logic... The first time I played it, I thought it was going to be boring because the puzzles were too easy. But after a few hours they get pretty interesting. And Rhythm Zone, I liked it because I can play it on my laptop with out really having to think or move, and I get to go back and listen to songs I haven't heard in a while.

I've spent a ton of time in Chime. My time alone in it justifies the cost of all my purchases.

Swords and Soldiers is great too

Chime is one of the games I regret not getting. It looks fun. I missed the daily deal for it, and also owned most of the games that were bundled with it in the indie pack.

Hopefully the indie pack sales did well and encourage future pack deals :)

I have Swords and Soldiers as well but have yet to try it out. Looks great though.

My turn:
Humble indie bundles 1 & 2
AaaaAaa: A reckless disregard for gravity
Amnesia: A dark descent (Penumbra discount)
BF2
CSS
Everyday Genius:SquareLogic
Flight Control Hd
Frozenbyte Collection (includes Trine/shadowgronds)
HL1 Anthology
Overlord series
Plants Vs Zombies
STALKER bundle (already own SoC)
Star Wars Jedi Knight Collection
Super Meat Boy
Zeno Clash

qq anyone else have to pay tax?
Missed out on a few games/bundles i wanted, not too fussed, this will last me well into the next deal.

Currently playing? Counter strike for the first time (addictive). Half-life 1 for about an hour. squarelogic for about an hour, pvz very addictive. a lil bit of everything tbh, too much games/not enough time!

Been playing Bad Company 2 a ton. Have a few hours in Recettear. Haven't gotten around to the others yet but I'd like to start Dead Space soon.

Lets see, I ended up with...

Battlefield: Bad Company 2
FlatOut
FlatOut 2
Humble Indie Bundle 1/2 (Steam Activation)
Indie Kids Pack
Indie Smarts Pack
Killing Floor DLC (4)
The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom
Overlord - Bundle
Plants vs Zombies: Game of the Year Edition
Puzzle Quest
RUSH
Star Wars: Jedi Knight/Dark Forces - Bundle
Super Meat Boy

...for $44.91

Not too bad, and now I have several good PC games to mess around with ;)

Awesome sale :)

Random question, but is there anyway I can get a CD Key transferred from one account to another? I recently bought a couple games and created a new account for them because I thought my old Steam account was lost (email address tied to it no longer exists). I emailed support and they reset it for me and tied it to my current email (also used for my "new account).

Now what sucks is that I have one account with L4D2 and The Orange Box on it, and then the older one with Half-Life 2 CE on it (and all those associated games including CS:Source, HL Source, etc).

Is there anyways I can combine them somehow? Support says no. The OCD within me hates having to login to two separate accounts.

Just rebuy hl2 CE stuff when it goes on sale again (it does all the time). How often do you really play them vs. the core product? Or vice versa. And give the other account to a friend you want to play some Source mods (zombie panic?) with.

I picked up these below, Steam again somehow managed to get like $130 bucks out of me even though i swore i wouldnt buy much, those $20-30 a day sure add up quick.

Grotesque Tactics: Evil Heroes
Winter Voices: Ep1
Winter Voices: Those who have no name
Neverwinter Nights 2: Platinum
Dawn of Discovery Gold
Supreme Commander 2
Flight Control HD
Guardians of Graxia Game and Map Pack
Empire and Napoleon: Total War - Game of the Year Edition
Lucasarts Jedi Knight Bundle
Rush
GTA IV Complete Bundle
Swords and Soldiers HD
The Ball
Plants vs. Zombies
Amnesa: The Dark Descent
AI War: Fleet Command
AI War: Children of Neinzul
Indie Brain Pack
Indie Fantasy Pack
Indie Kids Pack
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising
Would be interesting to know how many units some of the Indie games sold.
According to an IRC pal, who I think was quoting the dev's blog, Reccetear has moved over 100k copies all told, even though maybe half of that was the thanksgiving bundle where it was basically $1.

Once I get back to my main computer, I'm going to try and play one telltale episode a week. I bought the all-telltale pack LAST holiday sale and haven't looked at most of them, yet I picked up the new stuff from this year too. This should take me until, like, August.

I picked up:

Lara Croft GOL $5.10
Bully: Scholarship Edition $3.75
Blue Toad Murder Files $3.00
Swords and Soldiers HD $2.50
C&C Red Alert 3 $4.99
Hitman 2: Silent Assassion $2.49
Hitman: Blood Money $2.49
Jedi Knight Bundle $5.00
Mafia 2 Jimmys Vendetta $2.49
Mafia 2 Joe's Adventures $2.49
Ceville $2.50
Sid Meier's Pirates! $2.49
Sherlock Holmes Collection $13.74

It was a lame and predictable sale. I got:

The past 2 weeks I got 37 PC games in total, taking up 193.8 GB of HDD space once installed (and a little over 220 GB worth of Downloads).

I got:
THQ Complete Pack - Steam - $49.99
FlatOut - Steam - $0.75
FlatOut 2 - Steam - $1.00
GTA IV - Amazon - $5.00
EFLC - Amazon - $7.50
Indie Fright Pack - Steam - $4.99
Killing Floor Complete Pack - Steam - $5.75
HL: Opposing Force - Steam - $0.75
HL: Blue Shift - Steam - $0.75
The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom - Steam - $0.45

Total: $76.92 for 38 games (sorry if I missed any from the list).

Gave the OP a partial update from my phone. Worked a graveyard and I am sick, but we'll get it fixed up soon. I appreciate your support, everybody.

Thanks, everything you have done has been greatly appreciated. Even when users don't look at the OP for info, they are looking at other people's opinions in this thread which has been started and maintained by you. I would dare say you made steam some money by setting up a place for people to convince each other that every game is worth it!

Let's see, I ended up with:
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (and the Vietnam add-on thanks to the recycling website)
Super Meat Boy
Crysis Maximum
The Ball
Amnesia
Swords and Soldiers HD
The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Pack
Killing Floor
Indie Fright Pack
Indie Brain Pack
Indie Kids Pack
Evil Genius
LucasArts Adventure Pack
Time Gentlemen, Please! and Ben There, Dan That 2 pack
Winterbottom

Pretty good haul, I guess around 34 games for a little over $70
Been playing Bad Company 2 a ton. Have a few hours in Recettear. Haven't gotten around to the others yet but I'd like to start Dead Space soon.
Dead Space is great. I already played it once on the 360. Super tempted over the sale to grab it on PC. I think eventually I'll get it for PC and play through it again.

Bad Company 2 is fantastic! Really well done multiplayer. Hit me up on the servers. Same name as my steam name!
Bad Company 2 is fantastic! Really well done multiplayer. Hit me up on the servers. Same name as my steam name!
Love me some bad company. im up for playing too.

Since everyone is posting what they got in these sales. Ill give it a shot.

Super Meat Boy
Defense Grid: The Awakening
Half-Life 2 Deathmatch
Shattered Union
Red Faction Guirrilla
Bioshock
Just Cause 2
Batman AA: GOTY
PB Winterbottom
Dragon Age Ultimate Edition
Company Of Heroes
Overlord Complete Pack
Jedi Knight Pack
MLB Front Office Manager (The only thing I actually regret buying)
Serious Sam HD Pack
X:3 Gold
Plus the Humble Bundle1+2
Battlefield Bad Company 2

I'd post what I got from the thankgiving sale, but since thats when I first started using steam, that would make the list a little long. All I know is that overall, i got over 80 games.

I went way overboard...that's what you get with Amex and no spending limits. I bought 77 titles and spent $692.42 :imwithst: Just got completely out of hand...

I won't list them all here as it is mute. Wished there was a way I could return some of them because I know I will not play them all...probably not even 1/3rd of them will get started with the initial install. I should have bought them as gifts and then I could have at least gifted/sold them but oh well... fuck!!!!

In fact, if I could sell my steam account and start another I would but we all know that isn't kosher.

Well I guess now I know not to read these message boards and get excited every time someone says "It is a must buy!" Everyone has their own opinions on what is good and what isn't.

Well I guess I better get to playing these games while I eat ketchup packs and drink free bottled water from the local Casino.

I enjoy reading the lootlists to get a perspective on what fellow CAGs are purchasing, so I'll share as well. (Enclosed in a spoiler tag to benefit those who prefer more compact threads or don't like the lists.)

wow now that is a spending spree

(Sigh)... it's over.

Some of you guys got an assload of games. I picked up 17, which beefed up my Steam list quite a bit (not to mention all the Humble Indie Bundle games). Not a bad way to get me into some more pc gaming. But my backlog...

eastx, you did a great job with the thread. Safe to say I wouldn't even know about this sale if it wasn't for CAG, and more specifically the popularity of this thread. I kinda remembered that the sale happened from years past, but I've never been that into gaming on my pc, so I never realized what a crazy event it was.

It's so exciting sitting down at the computer every day and finding out what games are on sale. I wish we had deals like this all year round... =P~

Tis the season to break yourself.

$692.42? Holy ****! Suddenly I don't feel so bad about the $123 that I spent.

Good lord, I hope you didn't spend any of the rent money. Are you gonna be alright over the next few weeks?

BTW, how do you spend close to $700 and only end up with 77 games? Didn't you buy any of the indie packs?

To me... Not bad when all of those pre-orders are considered. I usually put aside $1000 or so for this stuff, this time of year. Good times. I have a LOT of playing to do. Helps that I have kids that play this stuff.

MLB Front Office Manager (The only thing I actually regret buying)
I also bought this. I don't regret it, but only because it was a dollar. I played for about 5 hours trying to make this game into something. But all along the way you can see that it was designed/created by people that don't even know the RULES of baseball. How is an avid baseball fan such as myself supposed to enjoy a game running a pro organization if the creators can't even take the time to research the rules. For instance, I managed a game where Clayton Kershaw pitched 7 strong innings giving up 2 earned runs. But my offense only scored one run. In the bottom of the ninth I had a comeback walkoff win, and they award Kershaw with the WIN. Blatant errors like this are all through this game, which is supposed to put you at the helm. On top of this, the trade system is horrible as you yourself can't even complete a FAIR trade, the AI just won't accept it. But, the computer will do things such as trading Troy Tulowitzki for Jamie Moyer and a minor leaguer, a big WTF moment.

Basically the critic reviews were bad, and we should have listened. For a dollar I am not worried. I thought my love for baseball would allow me to get over the negative things in this game, unfortunately, there are way more negatives than positives. It is no wonder 2k dropped the project completely after that year.

See you for the weekend deal, everyone!
Daaaaaaammmmmnnnn. See you in 20 years when you finally finish playing all those games :p

No...I will be ok. Just a shell shock when I got my CC bill. I did buy 5 indie packs. The reason there was such a high amount spent is because I bought things like Fallout: New Vegas, Civ V and others that weren't under $10 each. Doesn't take much.
Gave the OP a partial update from my phone. Worked a graveyard and I am sick, but we'll get it fixed up soon. I appreciate your support, everybody.
Get better soon, mate. You worked hard to help everyone save money and find fun games! Surely there's a Steam Calculator for awesome effort like yours :)

Just finished a speed run on Torchlight trying to get the under 5 hour completion achievement, and finished in 2:47:48! (on easy of course). Not bad considering my first time through the game on hard I spent 8:30 ish.

so far i finished braid, and ive been playing a lot of altitude for my mp fix, and deus ex. i cant belive how much fun deus ex is. though i wish there were a way to sell my items. it feels like such a waste to just throw them on the floor when i have no room left.
also, thumbs up for serious sam hd. its a crap load of fun when you play with friends.

Deus ex is one of the games I wish I had gotten. But, early on in the sale I was conservative because I didn't know how much I would be spending later. Kind of backfired on deus ex, just cause 2, etc that I wanted but passed on.

Some great purchases there, NeoGutsman! Thanks for the well wishes. I should be on my feet again in no time. :)

Cheapo, that's an amazing haul! I'd probably save a lot if I waited until the end of the year to buy everything.

We will be starting a new thread when the next Steam sale hits (presumably this weekend). Thanks everyone who has made this thread great.
