Group Buys - Updated 05/20

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales
Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Seems Like DOW2 is cheaper now then it was in a earlier DD
It was $15 earlier; I remember, because $10 or less was my selling point.

I would expect them to change it back soon

Yeah had no intrest in DOW2 at the 14.99 price but i bit on 7.49 figureing it was a price mistake. Makes me feel better about the whole terreia incident

Act fast Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II: Retribution is 75% off at the moment. It was only 50% off when it was on sale day one. They're probably gonna fix that.

not a single daily deal for me, bad recap in my opinion. Should i wait till the chrismas sale to pick up frozen synapse?

Damn you Steam - my backlog is huge, and you tempt me again with Just Cause 2 and BF:BC2. Must show restraint.......I was able to let the PoP pack slip, as tough as that was (convinced myself that it'll be back up and cheaper for Black Friday).

Without new challenges, getting my last four tickets is going to be more difficult, but still doable. Time to grab discounted games that never got a daily, too.

gadamn the servers are always bugging up when the sales just go up aren't they? when all is well and sorted I'm gonna pick up Just Cause 2 and that's it. anyone know if any of the DLC is worth it?
Ugh... just a recap.

Well... so much for Morrowind.
Ahh, I know. I was hoping for a Morrowind sale too.

anyone think Morrowind is worth $15?? It seems kinda high for an older title, not sure if I should bite on it.
VVVVVV is utterly fantastic. It's tough but fair, and only THAT ONE BIT is rage-level hard. Everything else is just clever and great. This game is the last day buy you should all be saving for. I prefer it over Super Meat Boy.

Been there Dan That is first. Then Time Gentlemen.

On a related note, Beat Hazard's DLC adds a lot of good content to the game but it does nothing to fix the fundamental problem with the experience that you are still playing Beat Hazard. Eugh.

I have examined NeoGAF's list and found it wanting. It lists a lot of real stinkers. Don't be a moron like me and get suckered into dropping dollar after dollar on indie crap. Most of it is crap and my 'Regret Buying' category in Steam grows every time I fall for the siren song. It is easy to forget that, say, Doc Clock and the Toasted Sandwich of time is a lousy game and Professor Fizzwizzle (Sadly not on sale) is a damn fine game, and it's even easier to forget WHY one sucks and the other rocks.
To be fair, I always reference secondary reviews through Google and Youtube in order to make sure that the games being suggested are actually worth my time.

picked up retribution. Even though I haven't touched the other DoW2 games I own but for the price mistake that makes up for being hosed on the terraria price.

I'm going to be repeating myself from here on in since there are only two more days left in this sale:

There are a ton of under appreciated games available on Steam that you should look into for dirt cheap. Since some of however are too distracted by the daily deals , I'll help you out a small bit.

Picked up Flight Control HD, Puzzle Kingdoms, Spectromancer+DLC, and the 2nd Winter Voices episode. Maybe bite on Guardians of Graxia, depending on the demo.

Ahw fuck! Didn't even get the chance to benefit from their Retribution mistake. And terraria is now again 50%. Bah. Also no C&C nor CoH... sucky recap imo.

Well this was easily the worst Steam sale I've taken part it. My haul was already tiny, but combine the Terraria price hike yesterday with the fact that none of the games I was on the fence on (and passed up) are on the recap today... this sale is ending with about the sadest whimper I could have imagined. :whistle2:(

Do let me know if you bit on it, kinda considering it as well.

I'll one up you, not only did I pick up Retribution without playing the previous games, I don't even own the previous games.

So, I bought it because it was cheaper, and I was interested in it before. I guess my question now is, should I buy the previous DOW2, and Chaos Rising? Or just try out Retribution?

Meh... between the Terraria fiasco (can't believe this was a recap, at the 5.00 price point) and this shitty recap, Steam has left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Oh well, maybe I'll win the 10 free games, lol.
They kicked DOW2 retribution to 14.99 *&^()#$
Bait and Switch.

(Kind of pissed me off to see it on my screen for one price and find it added to my cart for twice as much.)

wow they raised the price for DoW2 : retrib already, that was quick. luckily I managed to check it out for the price mistake price. I am tempted to pick up terraria now instead because I saved more from the price error to not feel as hosed by it being $5 but I dunno if I'll like the game or not?

I've gotta wonder, why are you pimping these "under appreciated" games so hard? Do you get a cut of the sales or some type of referral payment?

On topic, I'm really surprised Oblivion didn't make a reappearance. Oh well, looks like that'll complete my haul. I'll try to get the Portal 2 ticket and then I'll cash out later tonight. Been a pretty good sale this year.

Fallout New Vegas DLC worth it at $2.99 a piece? I was thinking they would do up to 5 like Fallout 3 and then sell them bundled together at a decent price.
So which of the Just Cause 2 DLC is worth getting?
The hovercraft is if you like boating, since there are none otherwise in the game. The pack that adds jets to your parachute as well, since there's nothing else like it in the game. Everything else is just on a 'if you want it' basis. Rico's gun is nice, but needs modding to use normal pistol ammo (which then became my pistol of choice, if a little OP). The assault rifle I didn't use much, but it is the only gun with an assault scope. The rocket launchers I didn't use at all, because the quad one blows for accuracy; never tried the locking target one. Don't waste money on vehicles unless you have to have it. There's no point in ordering a car, monster truck, or jet just to ditch it minutes later so those DLCs are just playtoys.

So I just saw how they pulled a price swap on Terraria and I can't say I'm surprised at all. I did find it funny how people went on for 10 pages because I didn't want such a dull game for $2.50. Furthermore, my price-point for throwaway games like Amnesia (i.e. play it once and never again) has always been $2.50. Games like Just Cause 2 and Killing Floor I snatch up at $5 because I will still be playing them for years to come. Hope this helps you guys sleep at night.

Everyone keeps pointing me towards The Longest Journey, can anyone who has played it recently tell me without nostalgia goggles if it's held up? I'm really interested, but the lack of multiple resolutions and the pretty awful graphics are keeping me away.

Honestly - not to single you out, but the complaining in this thread over the Steam sale is starting to drive me nuts. I know we're CAGS, but we're complaining over voluntary sale prices. Nothing obliges Steam to hold there sales where 90%+ of the store is deeply discounted.

Most of the comments are from the folks that have been through a few Steam sales - while games come out year-round, it's inevitable to see repeats, sale after sale - it's completely impractical from a business standpoint for these publishers to produce AAA games and then discount them 75%+ after only 3-6 months (and we all know that most CAGs whine and go crazy when the AAA game they wanted is only 50% off). A lot of people say that this is 'greedy' - but it's capitalism, and businesses are designed to MAKE MONEY. The majority of games released actually lose money (just do a simple Google search to back up that claim for the countless sources).

You're not entitled to cheap games, yes it's great to get them cheap (and I am always trying my best to save a buck), but the thought process of "F you Steam for not putting my favorite games up for sale" or "Screw you Steam for changing the price on Terraria" (which I would wager lots of money was a directive from the publisher to up the price once a certain number of copies were sold) is mind boggling.

Now back on topic and to add value:
I say kudos to Steam for another great sale. I'm about to start my hunt for my annual "hidden gems," and frankly, that list from neogaf scares me. For now, I'm definitely going with Toki Tori and Zen Bound 2 -what's the overall opinion on Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?
