Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Blockbusters Facebook promo page:

Notable used game price drops

CAG Hawaiiboy let us know that a few notable games have had used price drops at Blockbuster. For the 360, Dirt 2, Mass Effect 2, and Operation Flashpoint are all now $9.99. Mass Effect 2, in particular, should be pretty easy to find as most stores seemed to have multiple used copies at $19.99 a few weeks ago. Please note that even though you may find a fairly mint and otherwise complete copy, you most likely won't get the Cerberus Network code along with it as these seem to have been removed by corporate before sending the games to the stores for rental. So if you want the free DLC that comes along with that you may just be better off buying a new copy for $19.99 somewhere. But if you already have the Cerberus code or just don't care for the DLC then this is a great deal.

Buy 1 Get 1 free on used games $14.99 and under is now over...

Below is a list of $14.99 and under games at Blockbuster that would qualify for the deal, were it still running...

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Called Akron OH location ... they had no idea what a prepack was, and when I told them, they said it must be counterfeit since there's no way I could buy Modern Warefare 2 for $7.

Just ask them to look up a part number, its so much easier to assume they know how to type in a few numbers than assume that they know every single product that comes in.
I was at one Blockbuster and the guy in charge mentioned that they sold their prepacks to a third party for a quick infuse of cash.
I stopped at one of the Dearborn, MI stores last night. I asked the manager if they had any POGs. She said a "vendor" came in and bought the entire stock! Ditto for the store two miles down the road. I believe I used used the word "scumbag" to describe the customer to her.

Suddenly, we find out these professional hoarders turn out to be Gamestop. Next time, you should offer her a higher amount for those POGs. Prisoners of gaming!

I guess now I know why my local BB didn't get the POGs this time round - today they had Store Closing signs up, though there didn't appear to be any sales or discounts. How does it work when a BB store closes? Do they sell all the rental stuff or send it elsewhere?

I overheard a manager type guy saying that "a million bucks is due this week". Hmm!

Which one? I went into all 4 of the Akron area ones, and they had prepacks in all but one, one had them behind the counter still but they let me look through them.

You must have just gotten a stupid employee.

Well, there's one Blockbuster nearby that's closing. I was told to look there to see if there were any store closing deals. But, yeah--I'm sure they consolidate everything.

this question is answered about 30 or 40 times throughout this thread just read back a couple of pages
what are pre packs lol
i'd tell you what a prepack is but somebody might think i'm serious and label me a troller when in fact i'm just trying to make a joke so i'll keep my fingers restrained.....so hard....so hard....a prepack is when i......must resist.....:)
Has anyone else's BBV mysteriously run out of plastic shopping bags?
A few weeks ago, my BBV ran out of bags so the CSR runs outside and asks his fellow CSR who was smoking if she brought any bags. She then pulls out about 10 crumbled up plastic supermarket bags from her jeans pockets and hands them over .

Bags have been out of stock lately, no stores have been able to order them.

However, they did fulfill our shipment of bags last week after 3 and a half months of waiting for them

My store stopped giving away bags months ago, of course... that's just one of many things that helps them be top in our district :) It's not that hard though, since the rest of them suck.

i just stopped by a blockbuster near me, and it is confirmed that they do have plastic bags. ill post a pic when i get home :) lol. no good games though so i just got a coke and some chocolate covered gummy bears!!

Disgusting! And I mean that in the best possible way.

i love the chocolate covered gummy bears they make it so i didnt waste a trip :) they had lots of copys of gta 4 for 6.99 and old sports games but i was hoping to get some good wii games
Honestly, why do people ask for plastic bags anyway. Seriously it's so friggin wasteful.
Well it does make it easier when buying a lot of stuff. Especially for me because I walk to my local BBV.

I also use them to pick up dog crap when I walk my dog.

I've got some original BBV plastic bags and even a couple from Ireland, although I'm not sure the handles are wide enough for some American-sized mitts. PM me with offers.

Plastic Bags are great for when you have just emptied the trash and your baby needs it's diaper changed. Either you can throw the diaper in the trash and have the trash smell horrible and you will have to debate taking it out right then or putting up with it (like I was doing a couple months ago) or you can throw the diaper in a plastic bag from a store and tie the handles, effectively sealing away all smell to the confines of the bag. Then it is deposited in the trash can and can sit in there, smell-free, until the trash is full and needs to go out (the method I use now).

Plastic bags are amazing.

As a father of 2, plastic bags have saved my life more than a couple of times (at airports, in a car or most public locations). Besides, Diaper Genies suck!!

I can't even imagine the poor archeologist is a 1000 years digging through a dump to find you perfectly preserved doody bags LOL
Lots of news stories today saying that BBV is going to be completely done by the end of next year
No way.

Ditto. Nice small trash can bags also. It is only wasteful if you just toss them in to the trash can when done. Plastic bags are a wonderful thing. They make good packing material also when shipping things.

I wouldn't doubt it. We are leaving our membership with them when the month is done due to following reasons...
1) Too many stores closed around my blockbuster so now everything is checked out since people from those old stores now use my blockbuster's location.
2) They don't get enough product... they still don't get more than 15 copies of a movie on blu-ray, even then they mostly only get 5 copies. Video Game wise... 3 copies of Alan Wake... needless to say the game is never in since launch. This is the case for other new games since most games only get 3-5 copies (I have only seen two recent titles get more than 5... RDR [10] and NCAA Football [8]).
3) the old staff at my store was way more knowledgable and were just plain cooler than the new staff they gave us from the other stores that closed in the area. Only two members survived but their hours were cut back dramatically.

That's the problems with most stores Lord. There are very few stores around here that get in adequate copies of games. My old store, for example, would get 20+ copies of everything that was going to be "big." We used to get 20-30 copies of big movies on Blu Rays, but like you said, all the other titles, we were lucky to get 5. I do love going to the store and browsing the movies, but I'll stick with NetFlix. Browsing movies is not worth the extra $10+ every month. I'll stick to the Netflix recommendation listings.

Lets not even get into how shitty the staff is there now. Our new SM thinks she's doing an awesome job, but she is doing such a shitty job. She basically fired/lost 3 of her best workers; me (shift leader), my friend (shift leader) and a coworker who I'm now friends with (assistant manager). Why did she lose us? Well, 2 of us got fired and one of us just left. We couldn't stand her. Everything we did was "wrong" according to her. We were the only ones that actually did work for her. Right now, she hired some new staff and they don't do shit. They don't know anything either. She thinks her store's doing well because she works 70 hours a week and does everything herself. Had she only kept the 3 of us, the store would be doing just as good, if not better with her just working the normal 45 hours a week, but whatever.

Walking out of a store with 13 prepacks in my hand looks weird and I hate it when they go all over the place in my car. One plastic bag = useful. Plus, I use the bags whenever I take out the trash in my office.
I have a bunch in my backseat. Saved my car from drunk people a couple times.
Haha, this is the best reason so far to be posted. I support this.

Is this the level we've sunk to, people? no longer expecting a simple plastic shopping bag with our purchases? We are seriously just one step away from inheriting third-world status if we start to adopt the attitude like the one above. What's next? getting our games\DVDs stored in nothing more than a makeshift sleeve made out of two staples and a piece of notebook paper?

thats the american spirit, use all the oil in the world so that you don't have to touch what you buy, and then pretend your the victim when your not offered a plastic bag with your single item purchase. Please, try looking at the bigger picture for a second or two and maybe the world will still be around for your kids to use.
Walking out of a store with 13 prepacks in my hand looks weird and I hate it when they go all over the place in my car. One plastic bag = useful. Plus, I use the bags whenever I take out the trash in my office.
I certainly support using plastic bags when you have excessive quantities. What that number is depends on the person and their situation. Personally If I can carry it easily I say No to the bag. I prefer paper bags, especially the ones that trader joe uses, as they can easily be cut up and used as packing material for gazelle flips :)

So let me see here...

Inability to get a plastic bag = Third World Country

Sorry it's more like...

America filled with dumb Americans = Third World Country

While on the topic of poop & plastic bags...I have a friend that once took a bag of fresh cat turds & put it into the drop off box outside of Blockbuster once.

I wasn't there, but I heard that it was quite amusing to say the least.

Hm... As long as the bag didn't open up, I'm pretty sure they would have survived. My coworkers have had someone piss in the drop box over night and they also had a small kid drop his pants in the middle of the family section and just take a shit. The mother tried walking away from that as if nothing happened and my coworker just went up to her and said "Ma'am, your kid just took a crap on our floor. Please clean it up" and she handed her paper towels. Oh, how I wish I was there to see it.

:lol::applause:

My first job other than working on my grandma's farm, was @ Staples. One night this kid backed up to the urinal & took a dump. The store GM had to clean it up.

Thankfully I wasn't there to see it, but to hear the manager coming out of the bathroom saying "I get all of the shit detail!!!" was priceless.

Also whenever whomever closed @ night, usually someone from each department (business machines & office supplies) would either have to clean the bathrooms or sweep the entire store.

Most of the time I opted or tried to sweep the floor. The few times I did end up cleaning the bathrooms, the women's bathrooms were DISGUSTING! ...tampons all over the floor. :puke:

You know, I wouldn't be surprised if BBV also cut toilet paper for their employees out of the budget, too.

Pretty sure third world status is based on socio-economic factors. Not attitudes towards the acceptance of plastic bags at check-out and media storage methods.

Blockbuster may be watching dont give them any ideas

Hey lets think about the people who make plastic bags for a second. If we stop using plastic bags, then these poor souls are out of a job. I'm stating this just to show that there are two sides to every argument and no matter what happens in the world bad things are going to happen. We are too advanced as a society to start retracing our steps and see where we went wrong. Sure if you got one item from a store then you should decline the bag, but if you have alot then, yes maybe you should get a bag to carry it. Is this one bag you get going to cause the Earth to die? NO! Most stores even have recycling bins to bring the plastic bags back to. There is just no need to jump somebodies ass like Mother Earth's friggin sidekick just because we are still using plastic bags in our society. There are things in the world that arent going to change and this is one of them. I'm getting tired of all these tree huggers who talk all this love the environment shit but yet still use the same harmful items as the people they are whining about. Oh you got a hybrid so now you are so much better than everyone else? Unless you live in a grass hut you built yourself with no electricity in the middle of nowhere and have no car and make your own food and supplies, then you have no right to judge everyone else because you are doing shit to hurt the environment as well. Now im going to get off my soapbox and go back into my hut and turn my urine into drinking water.

Oh and back on topic my local BBV had a few (10-20) POGs. Only a few noteworthy ones, I picked up Madden 10 for $9.99 and seen Halo Wars and NCAA Football 10 and CoD WaW for $9.99....and no I didnt get a bag for my one game I bought.

Does Blockbuster sell NEW games anymore (w/o preorder)? I was trying to find a copy of NCAA 11 today. I ended up using $50 of my credit on a PSN card....I guess I will get PS+ now.

I'm down to $27....then I am done w/BBV (I Think)
