Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Blockbusters Facebook promo page:

Notable used game price drops

CAG Hawaiiboy let us know that a few notable games have had used price drops at Blockbuster. For the 360, Dirt 2, Mass Effect 2, and Operation Flashpoint are all now $9.99. Mass Effect 2, in particular, should be pretty easy to find as most stores seemed to have multiple used copies at $19.99 a few weeks ago. Please note that even though you may find a fairly mint and otherwise complete copy, you most likely won't get the Cerberus Network code along with it as these seem to have been removed by corporate before sending the games to the stores for rental. So if you want the free DLC that comes along with that you may just be better off buying a new copy for $19.99 somewhere. But if you already have the Cerberus code or just don't care for the DLC then this is a great deal.

Buy 1 Get 1 free on used games $14.99 and under is now over...

Below is a list of $14.99 and under games at Blockbuster that would qualify for the deal, were it still running...

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

Yep, they were feeding you utter BS, capp. I've made 4 seperate transactions for this sale and EACH time I was told by the clerk that I had a 30 day guarantee on the games so if they didn't work I could bring them back in that time. Frankly, I think that still kind of sucks as I almost never get around to playing these things within 30 days, but it is certainly better than a "no return policy".

I do try to test out any particularly scratched looking ones by at least seeing if they load (though in general I just avoid buying them like that). But sometimes a perfectly normal looking or lightly used disc can have a small defect or minor scratch in the wrong place.

This is the first time during one of these sales that the clerk at every store I bought from told me a had 30 days to return them if there was a problem.

Also at one of the stores the manager reminded the clerk to ring up the games with the same price point together so I get the best discount.

So at least some of the stores have people who know what they are doing.
Some of the BBV employees can answer this better than me of course, but I think it just varies based on the manager and employee habits.
Thanks io! I'll be checking BBV everyday for the next couple weeks lol!

Well, the nice thing about this sale is that it isn't widely known. It's not like there are people waiting outside in the AM each day to grab the latest conversions. You could probably just check every few days ;).

I just load the games to the HD on my Xbox to see if the DVD is good.

Even the Wii games? ;) Yeah, I do that too - but most of my purchases this time have been for the Wii and PS3. The PS3 games I don't worry about, but I have had actual defective Wii and 360 games from BBV recently so you have to check those out. I just don't have the time (or inclination) to check everything I buy, so I just test the bad looking ones. I'm sure I have a defective game or two in the stack I bought from the last B1G1 and never got around to playing yet, though.
Ok Question I bought 2 games and one of them is damaged and will not play I tried to return them both but they said they dont do refunds and basically I was SOL. Is that true because that is BS.
You have 30 days, but their return policy only allows for exchanges for the identical title and no refunds usually. The only time you might get around that policy is if neither game is in stock at all at that store.

It also helps to check out the games BEFORE buying them while in the store so you can look for deep scratches, cracks and anything else that might make it an iffy purchase.

My Xbox RRODed after I recently started playing games from the HD, and the only reason I did it was to keep it silent. Is it the optical drive that's loud, or is it a combination of that and the fan? I'm debating my options at the moment, to see if I want to use the Arcade I bought from the Target sale or to repair the older unit.

Just stopped by the nearest BBV to me (Riverside, CA). Didn't spot any signs. The clerk didn't know about the sale and said, "Yeah, another guy walked in earlier also asking about the video game sale." He called his shift manager who said he THINKS there might be a sale but he's not certain. I just told the guy to see what the cash register says if I end up picking up anything.

I ended up not getting anything from this store though. Slim picking. They didn't have any DS titles. Maybe 6 PS3 titles. Most were either incomplete or priced differently than the 1st page suggested (i.e., $14.99 for the F1 game instead of $9.99).

Got (all complete/mint):

Naruto: Rise of a Ninja - $9.99
Too Human - FREE

Dark Void (PS3) - $9.99
Battlefied: Bad Company (360) - FREE

Not bad. Oh, and Too Human is pretty awesome if you've got someone to co-op with. Hit me up on XBL if you want to co-op and start getting awesome loot. =D

This has been covered a TON of times, but I'll say it again. It's a common issue for stores not updating price stickers in a timely fashion, but the prices from the first page should ring up correctly at the register since those are the prices they should be in the system.

The only possible issue you could have is that the employee may try to manually mark UP the game if it rings up lower than it's marked, thinking that the system is 'wrong'.

As for it being slim pickings, that's due in large part to Blockbuster corporate sending out a ton of used game stock a while back to a liquidator. So anything that is on the shelves at the stores now is likely stuff that's been converted from rental stock ONLY.

As to the no DS titles, did you try looking at one end or the other of the DS section? They're not always on the endcaps like the other games.

There are a few games that are missing from those lists though. I think people really need to start posting their finds in Red like over in the Guide thread. I think it would definitely help a lot.

Here are two games that I don't think are in the OP.

:360:

F.E.A.R. 2 - 9.99
Fallout 3 - 9.99

Note: Not trying to bash IO or anything either. He does a great job with the thread and I know that he has a family to attend to. Doing this would help him keep up and make it easier for him.

That's why I asked in the guide thread for any possible finds to be posted in RED since it stands out from the rest of the posts and I can just skim the posts quickly and look for the red colored text for potential updates.

Im pretty sure they didn't send them to a liquidator. They sent them out to be used for the game rentals through the mail.

If anyone bought Afro Samurai and had problems getting it to work, it is a bug not a scratched disc issue.

To fix the problem you need to change your HDMI sound options to Dolby 5.1 and it will install the patch and load fine.

picked up:
kingdom hearts 358/2 days

tomb raider underworld
brutal legend

I bought a copy of Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympics for 9.99 on Wednesday, then went back today and they were ringing up for the tagged 19.99 - tried another store and they were tagged 24.99 and ringing up 19.99 as well.

Not sure if it was the first store fucking with me since I had 2 copies of it on this visit (for people at work who wanted one).

Mario & Sonic Winter Olympics is $19.99. It was never $9.99. It would only ring up $9.99 if they had it mistagged with the regular Mario & Sonic Olympics bar code, which is very likely to have happened at many stores. Look at your original receipt and if it wasn't an override to give you the $9.99 pricing then it was really the Summer Olympics game that got rung up (at least the bar code for it).
has this been posted yet?
Someone posted a similar article.
Yeah, but this one is way more detailed. It says Blockbuster has 3,425 stores and could close as many as 800. That's a pretty big chunk right there.

Anyways, I went to one of the busy bigger stores and found much less than my podunk local store had. Either it all got bought up or they never had as much to begin with. They did still have several $9.99 prepacks including some decent ones like Civ Rev, Ace Combat 6, and Madden 10. But their regular game selection was pretty bad. They did have a whole tote full of tantalizing $19.99 - $24.99 goodies like multiple Darksiders, ME2, etc...

I like this idea a lot. I'll make it a point to post my new finds in RED.

Now here's hoping I find some new finds. :p

Hrm, that must have been the case - I wonder if the copy of Summer that I tried to get yesterday was tagged as a Winter one since it rang up 19.99 also. Guess I got lucky with the copy of Winter Olympics that I grabbed on Wednesday.

The only time I ever go to Blockbuster video is during these B1G1 sales on games. My local stores seem to be tapped out this time around. BBV online is seriously mismanaged. I was constantly frustrated with them sending me the wrong movies, or spending up to two weeks waiting for a movie to even show up. When I wrote them to express my frustration I just got the same form letter of apology over and over with a coupon for a free in-store rental. When I went to the store the movie I wanted to rent was never there because they would only have like 2 copies. Netflix destroys them, BBV executives = TOTAL FAIL. Kinda sad though cause I like cheap used games.

I was able to pick up Eternal Sonata 360 and No More Heroes for 10 bucks. The box of Eternal Sonata looks like it was sitting there for years lol..

Went to one last night pretty decent selections again. I saw Toy Story Mania Super Mario Galaxy PoP among assorted others for wii.
I went for the Ps3 games and found Fallout 3 and Pure. Just wanted the Fallout to finish maxing out the bad karma and heard Pure was pretty cool. Anyways spent about 15 minutes waiting in the store for them to find Fallout 3 and they couldnt find it nothing else interested me so I left. Kind of a bummer but its cool really just trying to find that damn Beatles Rockband

Does anybody know if gazelle knock off credit for trading in games in a blockbuster case? I sent in toy story mania once in a generic black dvd case with a printed off game cover and they accepted it no problem, but I'm not sure if they'd look the other way on one of these crappy BB cases.

They'll take it for full value. I've traded in games with BB cases that don't even have manuals, and they would bump it up to full value. Unless something changed in the last month or two, you should be good.

I found Avatar and Where the Wild Things are at one of my BBVs, but neither had original cases or artwork and that type of stuff drives me insane (OCD), so I left them. Shame too because I would have picked them up to platinum at least.

Im really hoping they drop the price of Darksiders and Bayonetta to $14.99 so I can go pick those up as they had a bunch of each of those and I hear both games are pretty fun.

Found a Mario Super Slugger and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 (wii) at local bbv and went across the street for $40 credit against Metroid Other M. at GS :bouncy:
thought i saw beatles rock band :360: for $9.99 last time i was at BBV...can anyone else confirm this so i don't have to drive all the way over there for nothing? much appreciated :D
I can confirm this as well, plus lots of BBVs around us have it in stock.
I've seen a number of the Nitro's but they were all marked $19.99, is this a confirmed $14.99 price point?
Well, I stopped by yesterday on my way to work and it did ring up 19.99. Guy didn't say a word and started overriding the price to 14.99 right away without me asking.

Just went to BBV, and cop'd Mass Effect 2 for 19.99. Not Really Too much at my BBV. Thanks for the post/heads up to these games.

Looking at all these posts there's still no noteworthy title that wasn't picked up from last B1G1. Then again only two titles I would want have never been spotted round these parts. Anyhow, good luck hunting to those who still have yet to get their fill on this deal.

Anybody in Northern NJ looking for avatar or NCAA10 for the ps3 I found a store that had about 3 of avatar and 6 NCAA10 so pm me for the location. I am still looking for Beatles rockband for the ps3 so if someone knows a store that has it shot me a pm and I might be able to help you find a game. Don't want to post the store because lurkers.

I had some good luck today. I went to about 5 different BBV within a small area, and came out with quite a haul.

I got:
2x :wii: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2010
1x :wii: Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands
1x :wii: Mario Super Sluggers
1x :360: XMen Origins Wolverine
1x :360: Wet

All of them were $15 or then Wet and Sluggers were only $10

I spent about $40 + tax and was able to bring it to Gamestop then and get $40 (plus edge) down on Halo Reach at 2 different locations.

Basically..

$40 cash --> $80 Gamestop Credit + Wet :360: + Wolverine :360:

I am pleased. Thanks like always to everyone who helps keep this thread up!

wow nice grabs everyone. i wish my bbv had as good selection as you got. i found 2 lego rock bands and 2 avatars, so i did ok. was hoping for some gamestop 2 for 40s for 15 but no such luck... peace cags!

found some unusual finds during my rounds

PS3
Enchanted Arms 9.99
Marvel Ultimate alliance 9.99
COD 4 MW 14.99

PSP
SOCOM Fireteam Bravo 3 14.99

Damn, u r one lucky SOB.;) I've been looking everywhere for Tiger Woods, Wet, and Mario Sluggers (and Mario Strikers too) to keep for myself. You got a really good haul for 5 stores. Good job. :)

LMAO you guys are gonna laugh after reading this. Im actually LAUGHING more than i am frustrated.

Ok here goes...

(sorry for Wall of text)

So I went into a Blockbuster about 20 minutes away from my house. Look around for about 10 minutes and I dont see much. So i ask a guy at the register, just to make sure this store is qualifying for the sale, and at first he says he doesn't think so, but after checking around he says the store qualifies. So I see a stack of used games at the end of the register and ask if i can see those, and he says sure. So I look around, My first sight is some PRINCE OF PERSIA game for wii(This is part of the laughing part) and Mario and sonic at the olympic games. Couldn't believe it...(Side note:I only flip games if i know they have lots of value, and these by far do), so i ask the guy if he can hold it for me and he says sure. So im rushing back home because i couldnt believe these two games which are pretty sought after around CAG and have a lot of value are sitting right at the local BBV, so i get home, get my gift cards which i used to pay for, and rush back to the Blockbuster and then i purchase the two games.

Here's the funny part...

Once i get home, Im looking at the values of the two games and i see that the mario game gets alot at a few places. Im looking at Prince of Persia....and see that the game i bought was RIVAL SWORDS! THE ONE THAT CAME OUT IN 2007. I THOUGHT IT WAS THAT NEW ONE FORGOTTEN SANDS. LMAO I TOTALLY GOT OWNED RIGHT HERE. IM STILL FREAKING LAUGHING OVER THIS ....I was in such a rush i thought it was forgotten sands, didnt even notice it was the rival swords one. LMAO i am pretty dumb sometimes....

So i guess they dont give refunds huh? The guys said 30 day period if it doesn't work, but im guessing i wont be able to return it...lol my fault.

I wish I could cop Wet for 10 bucks, i heard it was pretty decent. My BBV has all junk. I think I kinda got lucky with Mass Effect 2 for 20 bucks....

Went to two BBV today and was rather disappointed in general. First store had Marvel Ultimate Alliance for the PS3 for 9.99, which I would have bought but there was nothing else worth buying at that store. Literally about 10 different used titles at this first store. Second store had a bit more, but still not much. Ended up grabbing Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Virtua Fighter 5 PS3, and 2 copies of Tiger Woods 2010 for the Wii. Was hoping for more...
