Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Blockbusters Facebook promo page:

Notable used game price drops

CAG Hawaiiboy let us know that a few notable games have had used price drops at Blockbuster. For the 360, Dirt 2, Mass Effect 2, and Operation Flashpoint are all now $9.99. Mass Effect 2, in particular, should be pretty easy to find as most stores seemed to have multiple used copies at $19.99 a few weeks ago. Please note that even though you may find a fairly mint and otherwise complete copy, you most likely won't get the Cerberus Network code along with it as these seem to have been removed by corporate before sending the games to the stores for rental. So if you want the free DLC that comes along with that you may just be better off buying a new copy for $19.99 somewhere. But if you already have the Cerberus code or just don't care for the DLC then this is a great deal.

Buy 1 Get 1 free on used games $14.99 and under is now over...

Below is a list of $14.99 and under games at Blockbuster that would qualify for the deal, were it still running...

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

But that involves reading, which is like work for some folks. It's just easier to ask(and ask and ask and ask) the same crap over and over rather than finding the info themselves.

I agree..... so is the B1G1 still going on? :p
j/k

Out of the five blockbusters I went to yesterday, only one store had the prices correctly marked for Bayonetta & Darksiders. If it wasn't for the people in this thread, we'd never be able to score such deals. Thank you very much everybody!

Here's something that may or may not piss the fuck out of you.

Amazons videogame trade in deal of the day is Bayonetta ps3 for $17. Thanks amazon, but 1 day too late.

I'm glad I managed to get 3 copies. I only bought the 2 extras when I couldn't find another $14.99 game to match. I wouldn't have even hoarded 2 extra copies, but the damn things were marked 24.99, so who else was going to buy them? I could have bought a few more. Dayum

You guys have 1 hr and 15 minutes to submit a trade in if you interested in trading in ur copy within the next 7 days.
Why did blockbuster choose to use yellow lettering on a blue background for the store logo lol
Probably the same reason McDonalds has golden arches and Wal-Mart has a yellow smiley face. Also, probably the same reason a lot of road signs are yellow. Yellow catches peoples attention.

Yeah, but fewer people even pay attention to Blockbuster anymore.
Its cuz they dont have happy meals :D
Yes, but they do have a wall of overpriced candy!
Yes, but they do have a wall of overpriced candy!
It is funny that they have the money trap center on your way out the door trying to sucker you into some "movie Night" deal or something but with hardley anyone going there it means less kids along with them to pay any attention.... Fail... One of the few blockbusters still here used to have a kids section with tables,legos,etc... and now they have sinces turned that into the area where they sell the over priced disc only Used DVD's for sale..... I love Blockbuster haha

I'm definitely going to be sad when Blockbuster goes. Despite all the shit we have to go through as customers, their b1g1 are some of the best deals out of the year.

I decided to just lock in the Gazelle price of $14 since it gives me a little under 30 days to finish the game and ship it to them.

Uh, sorry for asking a question that might have been awnsered (I checked the last 5ish pages and didnt see anything).

But can anyone confirm what version of Tekken 6 went on sale? I remember seeing a few PS3's last week, but the employee's at that BBV are such douches i dont feel like dealing with any unnecessary contact

That's a good deal. Get paid to rent a game 4 a month.

I already miss Hollywood Video more than I know I'll EVER miss Blockbuster. Why? Hollywood Video almost always seemed to get in boxloads of games for their $5 game sales, whereas with Blockbuster it's largely dependent on their stores having rental stock to convert before the BOGO sales.

The HWV sale was $5 for any used games $29.99 and under(and frequently the barcode glitched to allow NEW games to work with it) which made for a better selection as opposed to the limited remaining stock at BBV.

Moreover, the HWV employees that I got pretty friendly with would ask you if you wanted them to request any games for their next shipment. You weren't 100% guaranteed to get them, but it cost you nothing and you still had a chance to get them.:D Of course, I later on learned that if I wanted to I could have games transferred from a Gamecrazy that would be part of the sale, but you had to pay a transfer fee and might be stuck paying the normal price in the system as they wouldn't qualify for the $5 sale.

I'm pretty sure the PS3 version was still $19.99. Of course it is a bit hard to be sure since very few stores had stuff updated on Monday but I did look at the official price drop sheets at 3 or 4 stores and Tekken 6 PS3 was not on any of them.

While I miss that sale too, them getting shipments of new games was very YMMV. Around here a few stores got games for the sale but they weren't stock sent by corporate for the sale. They were overstock that the HWV store managers personally went to get from nearby Gamecrazy locations. The manager of my local HWV was getting turned down on getting more stock for the last sale so he had a pretty bad selection. Also, the fact that the sale only worked at non-Gamecrazy HWV stores made it pretty limited around here - there were maybe 3 or 4 stores I could get to in 30 mile radius, and only 1 or 2 would have any substantial new stock (nearly 2 out of 3 HWV stores around here were Gamecrazy locations). And to top ot all off, it was much more widely know about than the BBV sale. Most of the HWV around here actually had people lined up before opening during the last sale and pretty much all the good stuff was gone before I could get there (except at one store that for some reason got overlooked and where I got most of my games from). Contrast that to this last day of the BBV B1G1 where I could, if I wanted, hit about 15 stores in the same area those 4 HWV stores were located and apparently no one else knew about the sale or recent price drops... The B1G1 are a little more of a hidden gem kind of thing - the masses are not aware of it yet, which is a good thing ;).

I remember seeing quite a few Tekken 6 for 360, but none for PS3.

It was the opposite around here, where the Hollywood Video stores were all straight HWV stores without a Gamecrazy attached. The only GC store was 30+ miles away and that was one of the two or three that the manager at the further HWV store kept getting alot of their overstock from.

Couple those two HWV stores with 2-4 Movie Gallery stores, some of which never got quite as plundered as the HWV stores, and it made for a great sale.

Unfortunately during the last couple $5 game sales the main problem that was occuring was that people from out of the area(had a couple guys from Binghamton/Vestal NY come the 40-ish miles just to hit up the two HWV stores round here:roll:)were coming in and absolutely raping the stores of anything decent.

I happened to bump into them during the one sale when they were on their way out, with about 25 games each.:bomb:

Mind you when I first joined CAG it was nothing for me to go far away from my home area to hit up a bunch of stores, but since I've largely stopped doing that I get a bit perturbed when people come from 50 miles from my area to grab everything. After all, that's my MO(grab all dem shitz;)).

But I can see where BBV would be a great thing for your area IO, whereas in my area the only ones that might be better for the BOGO are about 20 miles down the line, but even those got absolutely pillaged quickly this time.
Only other game i could find in the store (Mx VS ATV) costed more, so i ended up having to pay 5 dollars extra due to the employee's failure.
MX vs ATV should have been $14.99. It dropped on Monday.
It was probably bound to crack; you were lucky.
Still =/, i wanted it for the achievements, only 4 or so away from 1000/1000g. But Mx Vs ATV isnt bad either, guess ill have to wait for an cheap amazon sale again or something

Did you ask them to check their store locator for the nearest store that had one?

Iv checked all the stores in the area 2+ times before during the sale period. They were the only ones that had Tekken 6 for 360. (And they had like 6+ on Saturday, so im guessing someone hoarded on Monday
That's a good deal. Get paid to rent a game 4 a month.
Exactly and with the game being around 9 hours long I'll be done with it in no time.

Decided to hit the "local" BBV on Monday to see if there were any leftovers from the sale. Sure enough I drive 20 minutes to the store and lo and behold the store looks like it has been closed and cleared out for months. There are only a couple locations left in Pittsburgh and none are very convenient to get to. Looks like BBV has come to an end here in the 'burgh.

Which one? It seems the only one left east of the city is North Huntington, since G'burg closed a few months back.

I stopped by on Wednesday. There were several games that qualified for the sale that I was interested in, but I didn't see any signage for the sale. "Uh oh". So I asked an employee if the sale was still going on, sadly no. I still picked up Burnout Paradise for $10 as I have been wanting it for quite some time.

This was the one in Beaver/Monaca, which was out of the way enough that there was usually a nice selection of stuff even during the sales. The only ones I know of now besides the one you mention in North Huntington are Butler and McKnight road both north of the city and the one near Pitt campus. The one in Fox Chapel closed a while ago along with the one in Natrona Heights.

I'm really not even sure how any of these stores in this area are still open, every time I go into one they are in such a state of disarray.
do they have a trade in offer for halo? Like trade 2 and get halo reach for 10
all i have seen is an extra 25% trade in credit towards the purchase of halo reach

While in a distant part of town, I went by a BBuster that usually has some used titles of note...
Alas it's down to it's last week in business.

Picked up a 360 256 memory card that has a sticker noting the WORMs game is included...

so does that mean the game is loaded on the memory card or that there is a downloaded card with a code printed on it inside?

I know, I know...how is it that I do not know this...well, I just don't...

Also grabbed a DS lite kit with spare battery screwdriver, car/ac charger for $6

I'm pretty sure it is included, because those are sort of meant for Arcade unit type people who don't have Internet access (since, in general, no HD means no Xbox Live).

So went to 2 BBV today that were near a Target as I needed to pick up some stuff. Was able to replace the FF XIII manual that came in my Darksiders case with a Darksiders manual. Wasn't able to switch Soul Calibur IV (Generic Case) for the rental copy. Went to another one which said I could only do it at the BBV I bought it at... except I somehow lost my receipt somewhere from the cash register and going to my car. So here's to hoping that none of the games are faulty -.-
so no other BB had price drops
Wait on Hawaiiboy or reports by shoppers on Monday, but since there's no sale going on there won't be many reports as nothing will really be worth it. Let us know what you find;)
speak for yourself
im eagerly waiting on some of those 20 dollar games to drop!
Very true. I'd pay 14.99 for a handful of those 19.99 games that have mocked us for the past month.
yup mass effect 2 @ 14.99 would be a worthy pickup
Just a heads up I guess you can get Mass Effect 2 from toys R us for under $20..

$26.98-30%(clearance titles) = $18.87 (Happy Gamer)

Are TRU clearance prices YMMV?
