Welcome to the Official CAG Blockbuster/Gamerush video game deal thread.

Notable used game price drops

CAG Hawaiiboy let us know that a few notable games have had used price drops at Blockbuster. For the 360, Dirt 2, Mass Effect 2, and Operation Flashpoint are all now $9.99. Mass Effect 2, in particular, should be pretty easy to find as most stores seemed to have multiple used copies at $19.99 a few weeks ago. Please note that even though you may find a fairly mint and otherwise complete copy, you most likely won't get the Cerberus Network code along with it as these seem to have been removed by corporate before sending the games to the stores for rental. So if you want the free DLC that comes along with that you may just be better off buying a new copy for $19.99 somewhere. But if you already have the Cerberus code or just don't care for the DLC then this is a great deal.

Buy 1 Get 1 free on used games $14.99 and under is now over...

Below is a list of $14.99 and under games at Blockbuster that would qualify for the deal, were it still running...

What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
How long before Bioshock 2 drops to $14.99?
I was wondering the same thing after seeing it for $19.99 at BBV.

I got Mass Effect 2 from the Rayford/Sawdust BBV. They had a bunch mislabeled at $14.99, but when I asked them and it rang up at $10, they took all the boxes to relabel them, so you may wanna check them out soon while you can at that price.

I'm waiting for for either Aliens vs Predator or Prince of Persia to drop to $15, and am hoping it's this monday.
Has anoyne picked up Aliens vs Predator (PS3 version)? Impressions? I've never seen a game with so many differing opinions. Also wondering how dead the online mulitplayer is?
No our store has never carried it. Obviously every store has different stock but our store typically has the best selection as we are the busiest store in the district. I can double check on this tomorrow just to make sure though.
thanks for the info, man

Anyone know what :360:Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition sells for at BBV? I ask because that version is STILL getting $25 a copy at Best Buy from their trade-in program. I figured if a few of you somehow still had some BBV credit you wanted to use and convert it to someplace that might be a lil more useful, this would be the way to do it.;)

FYI: RE Gold sells for $15 as the normal edition of RE5 at Gamestop, but you need the specific RE Gold coverart/UPC to get the full $25 at BB.

I have been to many BBV's in my area knowing the nice TIV at BB, but have not seen any at all. I believe the regular version is still $19.99 so it's not likely a good flip for those without BBV credit and there can't be many of us that still have some.

I love life.
Ugly black case :) but hey it's only 10 bucks
Awesome part about it though: I have spare green 360 cases. There was a Blockbuster around here that was closing down and had the sell a TON of extra cases they had. I asked how much it was for 4, and they just said "hey, take it, we don't need 'em."

Maybe if you can find one that's closing soon, which I'm sure shouldn't be too hard, they'd give you some spares? I absolutely cannot stand the ugly black cases. So bulky feeling.

Used ME2 maybe with cerberus code : 9.99
Two DLC packs on sale : $10
Third DLC pack on sale eventually : $5
Total = $25, hopefully.

I was hyped when hawaiiboy first posted ME2, but considering my backlog which is large and even includes ME1, I think I'll hope to get a deal on the GOTY version of this eventually on clearance at Target or Sears. Maybe in a year or two when that occurs I'll have caught up on my backlog.

I'm pretty sure no one's going to care, but I saw a bunch of used ME2s at my local GR in Staten Island. Looked like they were priced at $20. Anyway, picked up a PS3 Burnout:paradise for $10 and, get this... they included a plastic shopping bag with my purchase!!! \\:D/

Oooooh $15 for Prince of Persia is an instabuy for me.

Two questions:

1. If I purchase the game today, do you think they'd give me an adjustment when the price dropped? I'm only asking cause my local BB only has one copy of the 360 version.

2. Anybody buy Aliens vs Predator for PS3? I'd like to know if it's possible to find multiplayer matches, as well as opinions on the game itself.

Definitely not.
are these prices only at bb's closing? I went to a couple local bb's and prices where not the same
As Shorj mentioned, they dont go into effect until Monday, and most likely, the store will not update the stickers.

FYI, for all NEOH CAGs, the Graham/State store in Cuyahoga Falls had its last day of business today. They aren't having a closing sale, they are just transferring the stock elsewhere.

I picked up ME2 x2 w/Cerberus though before they transferred it out. :D

Just called two Blockbusters in my area to see if they had Prince of Persia FS for 360, and while they did, the price is still $20. : (
I'm probably just going to pick it up.

Stopped by today and I saw that both Rock Band Beatles and Guitar Hero Smash Hits dropped to 9.99.

Been waiting for an incentive to pick up RB Beatles and that was it! Came with full case/manual. GH: SHs also was the full package but I'll wait for 6.99 on that one unless they run the B1G1 sale soon.

RB Beatles (XBOX 360) have been at $9.99 probably 1.5 months now. I got it for $5 when was B1G1 offer.
I'm kinda hoping those PS3 copies of Bayonetta hit $10 this Monday.
I went in to my local BBV for the first time in a while (I actually used a Coke Rewards coupon to rent some movies - gasp!).

I was very surprised to see Bayonetta and 2 copies of Darksiders in the used game section. They didn't have these when the B1G1 was running.

I also saw an oddball used game that must have actually been a recent trade-in: the Collector's Edition of Lost Planet for the 360. It was $6.99. They also had an Infinite Undiscovery for the same price (also probably a trade-in unless they just converted that over from rental). Had there been a B1G1 I probably would have snagged both.

Not at mine, it was just 19.99 about a week ago. Guess they just didn't update the tags...

So what is the current price for a DS lite? I know they dropped to $80 a while ago, but I know of one store that still has one. I'd rather not ask the price in the store, as I'm sure it would sell quickly if the staff knew the price.

I'm at the bbv on colerain ave Cincinnati Ohio. They have 3 copies of mass effect 2 for 9.99. No dirt 2 though...

I went in to see to check if they were having another 5 for $20 on dvds, and it's now a 2 for $20? (used to be 4 for $20 and 5 for $20). who the hell would pay $20 for 2 used dvds? this better not stick, I loved the 5 for 20 deals :\

DVDs priced @ 14.99 and lower have 2 for $20 as their standard price. Every so often they run a 3 for $20 promo.

14.99 DVDs are generally new releases. They drop to 9.99 after a couple of months or sooner if they aren't selling well.

The 3/20 and 5/20 promos normally run around holidays or the release of big movies - pretty much anytime they expect a lot of traffic. Your market may be different but as far as I know that's the standard everywhere.

1. No.
2. Three campaigns, each are VERY short and some freezing issues are possible. As for MP I never even tried it when I had it.
So what is the current price for a DS lite? I know they dropped to $80 a while ago, but I know of one store that still has one. I'd rather not ask the price in the store, as I'm sure it would sell quickly if the staff knew the price.
They went back up after that measly week long 'clearance'(here's a hint BBV corporate, clearance means a price drop that's PERMANENT usually, douchebags).

So it would come up as whatever MSRP is for a DS Lite.:bomb:
DVDs priced @ 14.99 and lower have 2 for $20 as their standard price. Every so often they run a 3 for $20 promo.

DVDs priced @ 9.99 and lower have 4 for $20 as their standard price. Every so often they run a 5 for $20 promo.

Oh okay, that makes sense. I'll check back November/December then hopefully a few drop to $9.99 and they run a 5 for 20. Thanks

Thanks OP picked up ME2 for 10$. Was tempted to get Darksiders or Ninja Gaiden Sigma, but hopefully there will be another b1g1 free or something.

Sorry if I missed it, but any early word on price drops tomorrow?
I'm crossing my fingers for Uncharted 2 to hit $20, Bayonetta PS3 to hit $10, and Borderlands to hit $15.

I picked up Aliens vs Predator after reading/watching a zillion reviews, and checking out gamer impressions of the game. I wasn't too crazy about it, and multiplayer was dead as I feared. I wound up returning it for Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands which I'm really loving so far.

I've been waiting quite a while to reacquire Just Cause 2 (my goodness this game just won't drop in price too much anywhere, will it?) and FINALLY there may be a chance for a good price on it. My local BBV is selling 8 of its Xbox 360 copies (its a quite popular BBV). It's currently at $34.99 but I think a couple copies should stick around through a couple of price drops. I'm sure this is a YMMV but has anyone else spotted JC2 at BBV?

I picked up Mass Effect 2 today at my local store for $9.99. They had at least 4 copies of it. Saw also about 6 copies of Bioshock 2 at $19.99. Definitely hoping for a price drop on that soon, too. $10 is my magic purchase price if there's not a B1G1F sale.

Yesterday, when I asked the cashier to scan Mass Effect 2 for me, he said it came up as $19.99. Maybe they have to be manually changed in the system or something. So, I bought Tekken 6 (no manual) yesterday for $9.99. If anybody has an extra Tekken 6 manual, please PM me. Otherwise, I'm going to call Namco.

Not sure if anyone cares, but the $3.99 (and under) DVD section has, after a long absence, returned to my local Blockbuster. Picked up some decent stuff like Cube 2: Hypercube and the 2 disc edition of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. They even had Leprechaun 4: In Space, which I'll be sure to pick up on my next visit. (All titles YMMV of course, especially Leprechaun 4: In Space.)

yeah, a lot of stores are getting shipments of these older movies some even priced at $1.99 from the closing stores. also it looks like the next round of store closings will be happening soon a few stores in the area have begun receiving jewel case dvd's which has been an indicator of a store becoming an "outlet."

this is just speculation on my part but it looks like how busy a store is has nothing to do with if they will stay open. its all about the lease as the 2nd or 3rd highest revenue store in the area is showing signs of imminent closing but the lowest revenue store with a "blue box" (blockbuster box) in the grocery store right next door is still open and got its lease renewed last year.

Stopped in at a BB for the first time in... well, over a year. (Where I'm at, they've never established themselves.) Was a bit baffled at the display of random books for 49 cents to $2. I just don't see how even a table sized display of books that cheap is going to help them even lure in customers, let alone give them any profit. Maybe they figure soccer moms will want $2 cookbooks and then buy used DVDs or something. Just seemed like a waste of space in an already crowded store.

Picked up Lost Planet: Platinum Hits for $6.99.

They had half a dozen copies of ME2 for $9.99 and an asston of Bioshock 2's for $19.99 (like a ten-twelve). Might have to pick up BS2 if it drops to $10.
