What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I went earlier before I went to class and picked up splinter cell conviction, bioshock 2, darksiders, dante's inferno , lost planet 2, and left 4 dead goty.

I stopped by two more stores and picked and total for today:
:360: Crackdown 2 x 3
:360: LEGO RB
:wii: Toy Story Mania
:wii: Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2
:360: Dante's Inferno
:360: Bioshock 2 x 2
:360: Lost Planet 2
:wii: Marvel Super Hero Squad
:360: Iron Man 2

Was actually disappointed that I didn't see more deals for the :ps3:. I wanted to pick some up for it, too but in the end it was a decent haul. Actually going to keep all the games and pass some out for Christmas.

Well, total for me today seems to be 13 games, spread across 4 systems (including the Nintendo DS, which I don't even own yet...). And another 5 games purchased for friends. Pretty productive.

Don't know that I've seen anyone mention it in the thread, but Halo Wars is part of the sale as a $14.99 title.
clerk told me someone came in and bought out almost everything. alright who is the wise guy hunting my area (Santa Ana, CA)?
If it's the store I'm thinking about, it happens everytime there is a B1G1.

Clerks say that the person who buys the games does it for a daycare center, which I would have believed if it only happened once in a while and they didn't buy out multiple copies of the same game:bomb:

Got the following

Mass Effect 2: $9.99
bayoneta ps3:FREE
Darksiders:$14.99
WHite Chronicles:Free
Beatles:$6.99
Dark Void:FREE(I hate the game, but couldnt find another $6.99 game, should have got a GOOD game at $9.99, but I must get my full 50%!)

Got:
:wii: Toy Story Mania
:wii: Super Mario Galaxy
:360: Mass Effect 2
:ps3: Bioshock 2
:ps3: White Knight Chronicles
:wii: Mario & Sonic WG x3
:ps3: Alien vs Predator x2
:360: Crackdown
:360: Dante's Inferno

My goal was to buy 4 games with FME. Keep one, Flip 2 now, Flip 1 on the 12th. Working out good so far.

Looked at 6 blockbusters today.... no toy story mania... did manage to get
:ps3: Aliens Vs Predator 14.99
:ps3: Iron Man 2 14.99 (FREE)
:ps3: Army of 2: 40th day 14.99
:ps3: White Knight Chronicles 14.99 (FREE)...

and actually picked up a few more WKC and :wii: Mario & Sonic OWG to ummm...keeeppp...yeahhhhh....

1) Anyone know price of :ps3: Soul Calibur 4... didnt see it listed in 1st post or few pages back.
2) Does amazon accept your trade in's with a few minor scratches, nothing major? PM me rather then reply in thread please (not to clutter it up anymore) if you've had good experience or got hosed!

On a related note, if anyone wants to sell their manuals to Crackdown 2 and White Knight for a few dollars, send em my way. Videogameinstructionbooklets is ridiculously overpriced. They want $14 shipped for 3 manuals? I can go buy 2 more games for that. I just want (1) of each.

SC4 was $15 when I got it during the last B1G1 sale.

I'm really confused why all BBV have different prices from each other, being corporate and all? I went into one today and AvP was $14.99, White Knight Chronicals was $19.99. I went down the street (2 miles) and it was the complete opposite, AvP was $19.99 and WKC was $14.99. Darksiders was $9.99 at on store and $14.99 at the other.

Wish this stuff rang up universally, each store had a few different games that I wanted but some didn't fall into the range. Damn each store had a LOT of copies of GoW3 though... lol

I just got 2x copies of AoT: T40thD for me and a friend. Going to a third store tomorrow. How is WKC anyways? Been eyeing it for awhile...i the mood for a classic RPG.

Grabbed me Mass Effect 2 (no manual)
and Splinter Cell: Conviction both for 360.

I was looking for Bayonetta but my ghetto BBV didn't have much. LOTS of Bioshock 2 though.

It can be very confusing. If you're ever confused, I suggest asking for a price check. The employees may roll their eyes at you, but trust me it's worth it.

The confusion with AVP might be that the xbox 360 version is currently 19.99 and the ps3 version is 14.99. Sometimes the same title are different prices for each console.

Hope this helps. The moral of this story is to ask for a price check when you're unsure. Many many many many BBV stores do not fix the price tags on games when they drop in price, so you might see a game marked $24.99 when it actually rings up $9.99.

Dammit, my ME2 disc 2 won't load. Ugh, back to BBV I go. It's not the close one to me, either, but last time I tried to exchange a game at a different store, even though they were both corporate owned, I got denied. So I guess I have to make the trip a little further south. It can be a pain to find a good deal, sometimes.

Damn that sucks. I feel for you. I tried to exchange a defective game at a different store once and you'd think I was asking them to give me a kidney.

At least that's something we can't complain about Gamestop. Their return policy is pretty good when you do it in a reasonable amount of time. BBV could use some improvement.

Don't buy ME2 used there is a one time use code that's required for any of the DLC. just fyi

Going back in the morning to get Madden 10 & Splinter Cell. I wish we had Gamefly's Dec 22 list, I think Splinter Cell is going to be $10 there again.

What sort of conditions are the Xbox 360 games that everyone is getting? My 3 PS3 games are in perfect, pristine conditions, why my 3 other xbox 360 games are scratched to frightening levels.

Nope, same system, just different prices. I did notice that some games (like Bioshock 2) were 2 different prices, and the cheaper ones were "hidden" behind the more expensive ones.

Chances are any "used' copy purchased at BBV was a rental and likely still has the code intact

I posted this a few pages back and I see a ton of people picking up WKC and Mario & Sonic OWG, just thought I would throw it out there but if you can find a Socom Fireteam Bravo 3 for the PSP its $10(found 4 in my area) at BB and trades in for $10 as of today at GS...if the price sticks, that would be a pretty nice flip when then 50% bonus trade in credit starts at GS on the 12th.

It's kinda weird that there were differently tagged games at the same store, because as Sonic was trying to explain, the games won't actually be differently priced. BBV is really really terrible at keeping the used game price tags up to date most of the time. So the White Knight Chronicles you saw for $19.99 would actually ring up $14.99. That's why the price check was suggested. But keep in mind they can possibly lie to you, as the lady did to me today, saying GH: Metallica was correctly marked at $34.99. I should have told her I wanted it anyway and watched the scanner as she rang it up.

Here's the tally for today (first to respond at 3 stores):

:ds:
LEGO Harry Potter Years 1-4 $14.99

:wii:

The Biggest Loser $9.99 (no manual)
Dead Space Extraction $9.99 (no manual)
Mario & Sonic At the Olympic Games $9.99 (generic case, disc only)
Mario & Sonic At the Olympic Winter Games $14.99
Mario Power Tennis $14.99
No More Heroes 2 $9.99
Pikmin $9.99

:ps3:

Aliens vs. Predators $14.99
Army of Two 40th Day $14.99
Bayonetta $9.99
Bioshock 2 x2 $14.99
Darksiders $14.99
GH: Metallica $9.99
Operation Flashpoint $9.99
White Knight Chronicles x2 $14.99

:360:

Army of Two 40th Day $14.99
Avatar: The Game $9.99
Bayonetta $14.99
Bioshock 2 $14.99
Crackdown 2 x2 $14.99
Dante's Inferno $14.99
FIFA Soccer 10 $14.99 (don't think I've seen this listed yet; it was a trade in)
Lost Planet 2 $14.99
Mass Effect 2 $9.99
Splinter Cell: Conviction x4 $14.99 (co-op!)

Alll in all, not too bad. I don't think I had seen FIFA posted anywhere, it was definitely a trade in, as it still had a Gamestop sticker on the front. To top it off, swung by a K-Mart while I was out and grabbed an Epic Mickey Paintbrush nunchuk and a copy of NBA Jam for $5 after coupons. Happy Festivus to all!

I'm surprised many of you who picked up the XBOX 360 games were able to get so many of them. I was fortunate that not many people were in the store today, so they let me go through many of the XB360 discs. Nearly all were smudged but mostly all scratched up... I was able to get one and that was Splinter Cell but that was going through 9 or so copies of that title as well. Man, it sucks because I wanted more XB360 games that were available.

But I better try the PS3 games right now...even though the Blu-ray games are scratch resistant, I bought a few during the Hollywood video closures and two with a minor single scratch won't freakin' install.

Btw...is "Iron Man 2" or even the first game even worth it?

It looks like I'll be combining that trip on Friday to replace a cable box into a trip to the Blockbuster/GameRush down the road.

Let's hope I find something good. Last one of these sales I found, the store had all of about a dozen games thrown on a single aisle endcap as their "sale."

Went to the three closest Blockbuster stores tonight and ended up with these ($9.99's paired with $9.99's and $14.99's paired with $14.99's, of course):

:360:
Army of Two: The 40th Day x2 $14.99
Crackdown 2 $14.99 (including the unused avatar Agency helicopter card :) )
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 $14.99
Lost Planet 2 $14.99
Guitar Hero 5 $14.99
Dante's Inferno $14.99
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising $9.99
Risen $9.99
Mass Effect 2 $9.99
WET $9.99
X-men Origins: Wolverine $9.99

:ps3:
White Knight Chronicles x3 $14.99

:wii:
Guitar Hero 5 Wii $9.99
Guitar Hero Van Halen Wii $9.99
Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympics x3 $14.99
Mario & Sonic at the Olympics x2 $9.99
World of Zoo $9.99

:ds:
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky $14.99

Got just about everything I was looking for, and then some. Just sucks that the games I got for the 360 to actually keep are severely scratched...time to try the install, I guess.

biggest surprise of the day was

Bioshock 2
White Knight Chronicles

For $8.02 each after taxes it's a steal. All complete with no scratches.

WKC was on a cart behind the desk. I asked if they were going out and the clerk said they were all the same as the ones on the table. I saw it as he fingered through them (last copy). Pretty sure they tried to hide it as one of the guys that works there is an avid gamer. They also had a ton of GoW III and Lost Planet 2 for $19.99 each. Hope they drop before this ends.

Went to another BBV and boy do they suck here.
They don't even carry DS games & everything had no case except the 20 copys of Bioshock 2 lol.

Went to three stores around my area to see what they had. All were pretty well stocked for all systems however I picked up

iconps3.gif

White Knight Chronicles 14.99
Bioshock 2 14.99
Army Of Two 40th Day 14.99
Ironman 2 14.99

I was only interested in two games and they were Dantes Inferno and Uncharted 2 for the PS3. Manager told me they would both be 14.99,he was wrong.

Here is what I got from two different bbv's:

1st:
Dante's Inferno: 360/14.99
Dead Rising,Chop till you drop: Wii/14.99 (free)

2nd:
Soul Calibur IV: PS3/14.99
Darksiders: PS3/9.99 (free)

Hit the last few surviving stores in my area...did pretty well:

All were complete and in great shape...don't think they are getting rented nearly as much as they used to. Thanks OP!

That sounds pretty standard from my experience. The worst is usually Wii games. My guess is that kids are the primary players of the Wii, and they abuse those discs. 360 discs are generally better, but not by a wide margin. PS3 titles are always in the best condition, which is ironic, because Blu-ray discs can handle a lot more scratching than DVD discs before they're turned into coasters.

Thankfully the 360 has the install option to check on scratched discs. With Wii discs, you've just got to take a gamble.

Is anyone here who is a Blockbuster employee who may know whether the Cerberus Network code coupon comes with every Mass Effect 2 rental copy or not?

I picked up a like-new condition Mass Effect 2 game that didn't have the code coupon in it, and I was wondering if I should just stop by the local Blockbuster to ask for one in case they took it out of the rental copies, and were supposed to put it back into the for sale copies but forgot to do so.

As for the install option on the Xbox 360, does that mean we don't have to worry about a disc no matter how scratched up it is if it were able to be installed?

At $7+ per 4 day rental, I'm sure as hell not renting any. I just play the demo discs I get from my $5 OXM sub. And thanks to Netflix and Amazon VOD, the only time I walk into a BBV is buy used movies or games.

And is there an install option on the PS3 similar to the one on the Xbox 360? Some of my PS3 games will install automatically a small portion of the game, but I don't see the ability to install the entire game.
You would be wasting your time to go back and ask. The Cerebrus Network code only comes with new copies. If you get one in a used copy, you are very, very lucky.

I bought a used copy at GS and it had a Cerebrus Network code in it (got it for like $5 used, but that is another story), but the discs wouldnt play in my xbox when I got home...so I went back exchanged it for another copy, and the other copy I got had the code in it too! So I used 1 of the codes, and have 1 left over...I also have another manual for ME2 if anyone needs one (because I didnt know if the GS employee was going to swap me a copy with a manual in it, so I kept the manual before exchanging...it is mint condition as far as I can tell).

So basically I got lucky and got 2 Cerebrus codes for my $5 purchase of ME2 at GS...but it was a fluke, I got real lucky. Twice.

As far as the install option on the 360, it still has to read through the disc to install it...so you dont want a thrashed disc. It wont need to constantly access the disc, so all you need is 1 good read when installing, so it is better to play scratched games like that...but that is not a reason to pick up a scratched game if you can avoid it... Its not a deal if its broken.

I did much checking on that when ME2 first hit $9.99. I talked to many managers and all said their rental stock came opened and no codes came with the copies. I remember seeing 1 CAG post that a code came with, but it must have been a rare trade in.

 Seriously? Maybe if you ordered it from Gamefly you'd get the code voucher, but chances are either the employees or the customers stole the vouchers out of the retail cases on the floor a loooooooong time ago.

Even if the voucher were somehow still in there, it would likely be scratched off or if it were one of the type of codes just printed on a slip of paper someone probably snapped a camera phone pic of it and used it when they got home.

How do I know this? I had 5-6 cases for Bad Company 2 for PS3 and EVERY ONE of them had the VIP code voucher in it and every one of those came back as 'used' when I tried them.

Here's the page for ME2 on Gamefly. It's $14.99: http://www.gamefly.com/game/xbox-360/Mass-Effect-2/136155/

That's your best bet for getting a Cerberus code.
