What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

went to a blockbuster and found 2 copies of God of War 3 marked at $15. They were game only, but I'm wondering if i could take those back in exchange for boxes and artwork?

either way, I count my blessings ^^

found 2 mismarked gems:
socom fire team bravo 3 psp marked 19.99 actual 9.99
madden 11 wii marked 9.99, rung up 34.99 but the manager manually marked it down and let me have it!

Went to two different Blockbusters today, picked up Dante's Inferno (360) and Crackdown 2 (360) Saw Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands, Iron Man 2, Plenty of Bioshock 2, More Dante's Inferno, Splinter Cell Conviction, if anyone is looking for these let me know and we can figure out a trade. I am looking for Dirt 2, Risen, or I am open to others.

I went to blockbuster again today and tried to swap lost planet 2 which I bought yesterday and get Splinter Cell Conviction, but the employee said that would be considered fraudulence? They also said if I return Lost Planet 2, I can only swap it for another Lost Planet 2? What should I do? I still want to keep my WKC, but I really don't want to keep LP2...

Usually wouldn't swap at my store much after a purchase, 1 day we would usually begrudgingly do however. It's not fraud, that's dumb, but it's not policy to let you swap something because you don't like/didn't want it and to exchange for the same item only IS policy. Anything beyond that is customer service decisions, but not necessary on their part.

Usually, getting another game or credit return only occurs if they have no more copies of the game you are returning.

In case you are wondering, I spoke to several employees during my transactions and they all seemed to be in agreement on my exchange of Mass Effect 2 - that since I wasn't going to be able to gain full access to the game content without the Cerberus code, that the return/exchange would be allowed. All in all, they were really cool folks - props to the Perinton BBV crew!
what are the chances of getting complete games?? I want to go look at the store but its closed for the night and gamefly has a few titles that id like
I bought a game that was incomplete, and then I found the same game at another store, the manager there was nice enough to let me get the original case and manual and he took the case. I was going to rebuy the same set of games but he just did the exchange for me.

While I was being rung up the BBV employee mentioned that the sale would go up to Jan. 3. I hope they get some markdowns though because the selections in the Chicago BBVs are pretty bare.

One of the stores that I went to yesterday had a large stack of games on the back counter. At first, I though that they were returns but then I noticed the price tags. I asked if I could look through them but was told that they didn't qualify for the sale. I'm pretty sure that the guy was right since BBV is always on top of updating the price tags.

Copies the employees had set aside? Or just gotten shipped to their store and hadn't looked through. Both equally valid options.

Made a few descent pick-ups that I'm looking forward to playing; although nothing will compare to how I made out last time when I got two fairly crappy games on the last day of the sale for $10 and traded them for $40 in Best Buy credit. (I never feel guilty about a purchase meant for flipping on the last day(s) of a multi-week sale)

Saw that Alan Wake is at $20, really hope that it gets a drop before the 5th.

That's exactly as it should be. Just like the Gamestop 7 day return policy(which I was told by employees a while ago I could use if I 'didn't like' a game), the BBV return policy is there in the event you get a DEFECTIVE game and not just because you decided you don't like the game.

Case in point, I bought White Knight Chronicles from the sale and I played about two hours or so of it. I think it sucks, but I won't go back to the store I got it from and try to swap it out since there's nothing wrong with it.

Even when there's a B2G1 sale on new games going on, people will buy 'placeholders' to try and swap out those games for ones they want that may not be released as of yet.

What they don't realize is by buying the games and holding onto them until the one(s) they want come out and trying to swap out, they're making that store lose money they could've made on those held copies of games that might've sold to someone who wanted to play them.

So my BBV just had a big sign saying "50% off used games". Is this seperate from the B1G1 or is my BBV a franchise or something? They had a ton of games but most were junk.
Morale Police:whee:
Nah. I just find it funny that people(including me with WKC:cry:) don't do enough research on a game and end up trying to return it just because they don't like it.

But BBV's return policy is pretty strict, so they're stuck just like me.:booty:

Most likely a franchise store...might be some good deals to be had though, so you might want to check it out.

I went back by one of the stores I hit the first day, and it still looked untouched. Funnily enough this store actually had signs up the first day, and even had everything priced correctly...I guess they just don't get much gaming traffice at this one. Managed to grab two more Splinter Cell's, two more Crackdown 2's (trading those in locally for $20/ea), as well as Kingdom Hearts DS, Kane & Lynch 2 PS3 (actually was marked down early; had to get a manual adjustment), GH: Van Halen, GH: Smash Hits, Iron Man 2 Wii, and Dirt 2 PS3. I've spent about $300 on this sale so far, and have scored some amazing titles!

I hate Bayonetta, stuck with it so i'll finish it.

I don't think it's actually fraud, but as others have said, it's their policy. Does any place, aside from GS, allow you to exchange an opened (even if used) game for a different game? I've never heard of anyone doing that, again other than GS.

I think the morale around here is just fine, nobody seems to be too downtrodden. Oh, did you mean moral? :p
I hate Bayonetta, stuck with it so i'll finish it.
I tried the demo of Bayonetta a while back, wasn't too impressed. I picked it up as a filler piece. I'll give it another go, and see if it's any better as a full game.

Tried 2 other stores and nothing. It seem most have the same games:

Splinter Cell
Darkriders
Crackdown 2
MLB 2K10
Army of Two
Dante's Inferno
Bioshock 2
Iron Man 2
prince of Persia FS
Lost Planet 2

That is about all that I saw. Sadly most I alrady own from Gamefly deals.

Bayonetta is one of the best action games. You no why?

Dodge offset. Until you learn how to do it and what it is, then you realize what the game does for this genre and why it is so awesome.
I went back on Thursday to return X-Men Origins since it didn't work on my PS3 slim. But they said I can trade it in for another $14.99 product but there wasn't anymore....only $9.99. They were very concerned that they would get "red marks" so they said I can buy a $19.99 game and pay the difference. But he tested the XMO on their PS3 fat and it worked. He would allow me to get the $19.99 but I figured, I try it again at home to see if there was a problem and still can't play it on my PS3 slim.

Probably a good thing to understand the use of a return policy before you try to use it.

Most of these B1G1 games you can get your money back out of if you dont like it. I have already put afew on that I didnt like and got my money or more back even after fees and shipping.

Picked up Army of Two:TFD and Dante's Inferno.
Happy with both games. Though couch co-op on AOT is a bit of a tight squeeze. I'd like to play it co-op online.
And, yes, Dante's is a GOW clone, but I like it.

Yeah I try not to sell anything since it was so cheap to buy in the first place. I'm going to get through it.

The main thing holding me back is the level design. I do not like that it's built like DMC 1 and the first 3D Castlevania on PS2. Huge open space but you fight 3 enemies. Then there is like a 10 second dead period and then 3 more magically spawn; rinse and repeat until you get into the next room.

I know games like Gears of War and etc are like that but they hide it so much better. Especially Transformers War for Cybertron.

I hated TF: WFC with a passion, so much so that I haven't even played through more than an hour of it myself and I've had it since it first came out. But I did watch both storylines play out through my one buddies playthrough.

Main thing that got me was that you're ALWAYS running out of ammo, which is especially bad if you're a spray and pray shooter like me in a game like that.

I figured it'd be more like the animated series with laser/plasma blasts being infinite on each weapon and I could just run through blasting my way.

It totally made me hate the frickin' game before I even played a bit of it myself.

FME Xbox 360 still trades in for $22. Wasted trip though because the manager wasn't there. You have to have a trading account which nobody at the store I went to knew how to setup.

For all you guys who bought White Knight Chronicles PS3, is it really that bad? I know that the critics don't like the game, but gamers do. And after reading so many here picking it up, I was contemplating on doing the same. Any of you who picked it up played it yet besides the two people above who didn't like it?

The employee told me that you can purchase any used game over the $14.99 and get any used one free under $14.99- I thought it was only on the $14.99 and under games. Sorry, didn't want to read through all the posts-

Didn't know that

It's a weird title, to say the least, but I have to give it more time than I have already.

That's my main problem when buying games, is that I don't give them a fair shake before giving up on them and trading them someplace.:whistle2:#

They allowed me to do that a couple of BOGO sales ago, but I really thought that the policy was to follow the sale parameters explicitly.

Maybe you just got an employee willing to bend the rules a bit to get some older stock out of there.

I went to the 3 local stores. I ended up with Darksiders & Bioshock2. I already have completed Splinter Cell & Army of Two 40th Day as rentals. And I just recently bought Lost Planet 2.

I was really hoping for Crackdown 2 or GTA: Episodes from Liberty City. I might try and resell my Bioshock2. Kind of got it from the limited selection....maybe I should have got Dante's Inferno

The sign by the games says buy 1 previously viewed game and get 1 $14.99 and under for free. Doesn't say that the 1st one has to be $14.99 or less-

Are any games dropping in price at BBV soon? I read in another thread that Kane & Lynch 2 was dropping in price next week. Anyone have any info/confirmation?

It's not that bad, it just takes a while to get into, and just don't expect the online part to be very good. There's fun in the main storyline though, the battles can be good and challenging.

Thanks for the info. No trip for me this week...lets hope more drops for later.

I checked my closest store tonight and they have one copy of K&L2 for 360 and PS3 respectively, but the PS3 version is missing it's manual.

Oh well. Hopefully when they drop on Monday I'll be able to convince them to let me have the manual from one of the rental cases.

I also saw my copies of Front Mission Evolved that I traded in to them last week out on the rental shelves.:)

What platform did you pick up Blur for? If the blizzard of the century doesn't mess us up tomorrow, maybe I'd go looking for it since I want to get it again.
