What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.
Its called wasting your damn time. You would rather drive around to stores and sit on the internet instead of actually doing something. Its a lack of effort to do anything is why people flip games.
Let me get this straight. Working as a CSR at a store like Best Buy is a better way to waste your time than driving to stores and buying stuff to flip? What's the difference between working 40 hours a week at Best Buy and spending 40 hours of my time every week flipping? There is no difference. Most jobs that don't require a degree cannot compare to how much you can make off of flipping. I spend about 20-30 hours a week or so driving around finding things to flip, ordering things on the internet and I'm living comfortable while going through college. The best part is if I ever need more time to study, it's available.

I guess running a reselling business is also a waste of time, too, huh?

Edit - For once, I agree with you IATCG. I guess no one believes in the "Work Smarter, Not Harder" philosophy anymore.

LMAO @ Dabamus's pic.
Congrats to you if you're still pulling decent grades while working full time, but people are in all types of situations in school. You don't get to judge them just because you are killing yourself instead of pacing yourself and enjoying school/the undergrad social life. You aren't winning points from anyone by bragging about overloading yourself, hope you don't do that in real life too.
Its more that people obviously dont want to put forth any effort. Sitting on welfare is okay too???

Why work when you can sit .why read when you can watch tv. Why run when you can walk. Its cheapassgamer not lazyassgamer.
Most people in college are lazy pieces of sheet who go to their one class a day and expect things to be done for them, and cant waste their precious time of doing nothing to get a job so they flip games.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that less than .1% of people in college are people who flip games.

What about grad school students?
some jobs pay you to sit on your ass though. but you cant beat flipping some games making +$30/hour cash equivalent (tax free-ish, since you have to pay tax buying the games... fuck CALIFORNIA taxes).
Those are called government jobs. I've been trying to get one of those for 10 years now, but since it comes down to who ya know and not what you know on their standardized shit tests I've been turned down every time.

Ok, ok. We'll stop. You're right!

Researching what items are flips isn't work. Finding the items that are flips isn't work either. Calling up stores to see if they have items in stock isn't work either. Oh! Better call up Amazon and tell them that their business practice of calling up suppliers and making orders is a lazy way to make money!
So, you're saying I'm lazy because I don't want to work 40 hours a week and make absolute shit in pay? I'm sorry, but I refuse to work 40 hours a week in some retail store and make at most $280 a week. I easily double or triple that money within a week of flipping. And flipping full time is a job. Last I checked, making money is a job and that's what I do flipping games and whatnot ;).
You easily make $560 to $840 within a week of flipping games....god damn

argh i want a gov job. My friend is in but she says they are in a hiring freeze. Their job still kicks ass.

I applied to one gov job nearly 2 years ago with the local courts. Out of 300 people i scored 7th on their tests. They had 3 spots open and only interviewed the top 5. WTF kind of BS is that!

Yep with his logic, he makes $31,360 a year flipping games.

SCREW COLLEGE!!! I am going to flipping games school. If one spends that much time trying to flip, they might as well deal drugs or get a hobby.

And with your logic working 40 hours a week at a retail store @ $9, you make ~$19k before taxes! Congratulations!

I love how you're trying to twist this by saying I ever said SCREW COLLEGE! I never said that. I work at most 30 hours a week and go to college full time, just like you. The only difference is, I make more money and don't work nearly as hard. I fail to see what's so bad about that.

flipping is fun but it's pretty dumb to call it a "job" or a way to legitimately make money.

It's also dumb to waste your time on the internet trolling people about flipping.

I do it to reduce the price of buying new games - when the flips are good and easy enough.

For example a local store here gave me $15 cash for God of War 3. I totally wasn't expecting that, but they're going to get all the God of War 3's they can handle, now.

And like I said, every blockbuster here had 5-10 copies of the game out for sale. The cashiers had no problem with me buying multiples. No harm done.

I don't live by myself and my BMI is at 22. *gasp* A normal sized guy that uses the computer? Popular to contrary belief, not every nerd is overweight. Some of us do play sports. *another gasp*

Hope everyone was able to do well with this sale and of course, with God of War 3 being the best flip, and also the most available - leave a few at every store for legit buyers, please.

I bought Uncharted 2 for $20 as a gift even though it might drop next week, but that's after christmas.

I also saw Ratchet and Clank Crack in Time for $15 but it was disc only, so I passed on it.

didn't clear anyone out in sd, but did get some goodies. finally have dante's inferno for Ps3. i beat it a while back and wanted to finish some side missions. i really enjoyd the game though and plan on keeping this one!
argh i want a gov job.

Exactly. If not for the veterans' preference thing I probably would've been hired a while ago.:roll:
 thats what you countered with? :applause:
People who are scared of jobs usually dont take good care of themselves.

Ok, Trakan Im done just one of my peeves.

And Jer, you rock. Flipping can be a hobby not life consuming

Very nice ninja quote.

@Merchie - I don't live alone and my BMI is 22 (just calculated it for you, sir!). I know, I know. A nerd that has a normal weight and plays sports. That's something hard to imagine.

Crack in Time is the new one, right?

Will keep it on topic Trakan. My bad :(

FYI: I noticed in the small writing on the BOGO signs that the sale is limited to 20 games per customer per day and no more than FIVE of a single title.

Of course, judging by some of the posts I've seen of people being behind others grabbing 6+ I guess that's up to invidual employee interpretation.

I think CiT dropped to $15 this week. I think it was $20 before. Only at one of five stores I went to, not a recent conversion.

It's impossible for them to track - i never use a membership card for buying.

I bought 6 god of war at one store and the lady said she didn't care.

That's solely up to the CSR. The POS doesn't stop you from buying 5 or more games. When I worked there, most CSRs didn't even know about the 5/20 limit either. None of them read that sign. They just put it out when they needed to.

Yeah, I don't even have a membership...hehe

You guys are horrible. Buy n copies of god of war III to flip. Why don't you leave any so people who want to play the game can buy it. That's why I have to get to blockbuster at 11am and buy the last copy of the game so you can't flip it. Why don't you let me sleep in, fricken flippers (and no, not the dolphin cuz that's the cool flipper). Do you know how drained you feel after taking grad med finals? I assume you don't cuz you have this excess time to flip games. And the guy extrapolating how you can make a living off flipping, do you realize how ridiculous that is. First you have to invest all that money to buy the games, then you have to hope that the high valued games will keep flowing into your local store. You should try to do it for a living and see how fast you will go broke. :)

Hey can Hawaiiboy or someone familiar with BBV closing processes explain this to me? I went to my closing BBV and asked if they had any games besides the ones on display and was told no because they shipped off a bunch to other stores. Then at another BBV I asked the same thing and was told no because they shipped a bunch to closing BBVs and will get them back after those stores close.

Thanks.

Not on topic..?

Enough posts about people flipping. Take it somewhere else please.. It's just cluttering this thread with useless nonsense.

And to be honest, you don't need "excess time" to flip games... It probably takes less than an hour or two to flip em.

Anyways, has anyone run into copies of GTA Libery City or even just GTA IV? I've been looking for those everywhere and no BBV I have visited have them. ):

Liberty city is going to be hard to find since most BBVs only got one in. GTAIV has gone through about 2 or 3 B1G1s @ $14.99 already so good luck finding that one.

Hit up one more and finally found ghostbusters ps3 for 10...paired it with the show 09 for free...that makes 18 this sale...so dumb ill never play them all, lol

Doh. I was really looking forward to getting that one... I'll continue to be on the lookout though keke. At least I got a few games that I wanted!

Ended up going back for :360: Dead to Rights/Nier. Wish it would have occurred to me to buy the cards; could have saved myself $10 over the course of the day. Regardless, they were some stellar deals.

Like how their case stickers come off ridiculously easy without leaving any residue.

Does anyone know blockbuster's return policy? I want to return God of War 3, which I got for $19.99, and re-buy it for $14.99 to get the free game.

Btw, I stopped back by a local store to see if :360: AvP was still there and it was gone as well as $400 in games purchased by one flipper according to the clerk there.

I went to one of my local stores and counted 25 copies of God of War III, so I took two.

No copies of Dante's Inferno, R&C or TvsC.

Might have to check another one tomorrow.

Lets start a mob and find said flipper and make them stop. It is pretty ridiculous

Thank you. And yes, post is true. Had to go to blockbuster early so I could pick up ratchet & clank + god of war III before they were all gone.

I have not seen any copies of gta episodes
