What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

I went to my local store to look around. There was a sign stating that they were closing on 2/23 and sale starts 2/24. They were boxing most of the stuff up. This store was not on the list. I will miss having a BBV nearby, it will be one less option to get deals at. Has there been anything good during the sales?
Just a FYI. With the pending sale you can no longer put any trade credit onto a value card to use at any store. Any trade credit must remain on the account for use in that particular store only. Also going forward Bbv will not be selling any Bbv giftcards. 3rd party cards will still be available i.e. xbox live cards. You can obviously still redeem any giftcards they just won't be selling any new cards til the sale goes thru.
Oh, that SUCKS!!!!!! But thanks for the warning...

Wait, is there a comprehensive LIST somewhere of closing stores? Did I miss this? Please share the link, if so. Thanks!

just got back from BB. closeout sale begins friday 10am. but the thing the boggles my mind is say they have 30 copies of dinner for schmucks according to corporate they have to destroy 29 copies of the movie and keep 1 for sale. that just doesnt make sense to me why destroy multiple copies of a movie instead of selling the damn thing for profit

It's part of the deal that allows BB to get Movies before Red box & Netflix.

You could take a page out of the reduced price game guide thread and go dumpster diving when they are supposed to be destroyed. ;)

Is it sad that that's the first thing that came to mind for me? (after reading the story a while back on here of someone who DDed at BBV and found a bunch of games and DVDs that were supposed to be transferred but got pitched instead)

The colorado springs bbv on fillmore and nevada is shutting up shop and really didnt have to many games left. on a good note i was able to score 15 ps3 cases for 3.07, cant beat that! Anyone know when the next B1G1 will be around?

It's probably not going to happen. I am mad at myself for not getting in on that.. Even though they have a bid and have attempted to be competitive with kiosks, they are way too deep in debt to recover at this point (That is my opinion).

What you will see is them try to compete with Netflix (Online) and Redbox (Kiosk) and eventually just pack it up and give in.

Your best bet is to find closing stores and get what you can. By the way, game cases (PS3 clear & 360 green) and regular (Black) DVD cases are all 5 for $1.

If BBV is going the kiosk route, I hope they include games in the Blockbuster Express machines. Then again, where I live the ratio of Redbox to BBV Express machines is like 7:1.

+1

They most certainly have an uphill battle ahead of them. Looks like Redbox is snatching up every frequently visited lobby and parking lot available. Being that they just started renting games, i would use that as an attack point and try to grow from there. Unfortunately, it will be pure hell getting their machines in good locations.

Maybe not...I just walked into a local BBV yesterday to find out that they will be closing, and they were already pulling movies from the shelves. One employee was behind the counter doing nothing but running discs through a shredder. I know that they're obliged to do so, but it's an awful waste.

Considering most of these people are loosing their jobs, some will not worry about doing things by the book and cut some corners. Also, I'm sure a few copies will find their way into employee's hands.

I've only EVER seen one BBV Express machine, and it was inside an independent (non-chain) grocery store. Redbox is everywhere. But yes, putting games in their machines would give them a competitive edge with a portion of their target audience.

You mean you're telling me that the front vestibule of Kmart stores isn't a good location for the BBV machines?;) That's the ONLY place I've seen them around here.

I find it kinda appropos that the rental machines of one formerly dying chain is in the front portion of another chain of dying stores.

There are a ton of those BBV kiosk where I live, they seem to have put one in every Publix around here, and there are a lot of Publix stores by me.

Where I live, BBV kiosks are in front of a grocery chain, Rite Aids, and 99 cents only stores. The one grocery store is the only location in my neighborhood. Kmart and the 99 cents stores are too far for me to make a quick trip.
I see them frequently at Sheetz gas stations near me.
I've never seen a bbv kiosk in the fairlawn / montrose area, and the only redbox is the Giant Eagle that's by Target -- and it doesn't offer games.

I'm actually surprised that there aren't more since this area is extremely busy, and there's only 1 tiny BBV since they closed the larger one that was east on 18 from fairlawn.

The BBV I've frequented for a couple of years in closing (Bay Shore, NY). It's been a good run. Feel bad for the employees; a bunch of whom were very helpful/friendly. That leaves 1 store in the area. Down from about 5 or 6 2 years ago.

Hmm, store clerks kept saying that today would be the last day prior to the sale to have access to the store. However, they closed the store down at noon yesterday, and started boxing/destroying/preparing for the sale.

Not sure what the point of lying to the customers is (at this point), since we'll likely be the same people buying the merchandise. I'm sure the employees don't care at this point, though.

2 Stores here in Buffalo, NY were starting the closing sales(Maple/Transit, and Main) today while one other store is becoming a retail store...was informed that yesterday was the last day to rent anything and now that store will only be selling the used DVDs, Blurays, and Video Games...no word on if the prices will stay the same or they discounted any cheaper though

I stopped by my local BBV for the start of the closing sale. It was very busy. I picked up Grid (360), Mario vs. Sonic at the Olympics, Mario vs. Sonic at the Winter Olympics and Step Brothers (BR) for $42 and change.

One of the two stores in my area closed. Managed to pick up a few OOP Blus (Hot Rod, Zodiac, Nacho Libre), Tron on DVD, Koronopia, Boom Blox, Dante's Inferno PS3, and a few other cheap games.

Will go back later after the crowd dies down.

Today was the first day for the closing sale for my local store. Stopped in and grabbed Battlefield Bad Company 2 ($20), Army of Two, Resistance 1, Resistance 2, Call of Duty 3 ($15 each), and Grid ($10) all for PS3. The games are only 10% off the listed prices but they will not last until the next drop. I think they jumped the prices up a bit on a few of these (Army of Two @ $15?) but I heard other people bringing games up for $6.99 so maybe I'm wrong.

As far as game cases go, I asked the girl at the counter about PS3 cases after she rung up my order. "How many you want?" "How much are they?" I ask. "Ehhh.....let me see what we have. The manager likes to throw stuff out." She came back with a bag packed full of cases. No charge.

I'm going to miss BBV because of the people. Always nice and easy to talk to. The people at Family Video act like you're in their way.

Unless you're looking for older stuff, though, what's the point at these prices? It was better, and easier to pick up a lot of this stuff during the last B2G1.

Most recent releases are either 39.99 or higher. At those prices, you might as well just go to Amazon or newegg to see how much it is new.
Anything completely new like Need for Speed or MvC 3 was noticeably missing.

None of those games were available locally at the last B1G1, these are all rental conversions because the store is closing. I just got my PS3 a year ago, so I'm trying to pick up some of the older games I missed out on. Those prices are on par with or lower than other local video stores/pawn shops.

BTW, they had a few copies of MvC 3. No price sticker though.

As far newegg or Amazon, I try not to shop online because I tend to overspend.

The Blockbuster in East Meadow, NY is closing so they're having a sale. Only 10% off on used games but they have most of the games previously only for rental for sale, it's a shame I got there around 6, most of the Wii titles were cleared out but there was a big chunk of 360/PS3 left. I assume what they don't sell, they'll send over to other Blockbusters in the area (hence why the sale is only 10% off), but I got:

No More Heroes ($9)
The Orange Box 360 ($13.50)
Animal Crossing: City Folk ($13.50)
Dante's Inferno 360 ($9)

Almost for FEAR 2 for $9 but they had an extra case and no game. : (
Perfect timing, as I just found an older BBV giftcard when I got home, gonna re-buy hopefully. xD
anyone know how much dragonage origins cost @ bb ?
It was $15 during the last B1G1 sale.

just heard 2 shops within 20 minutes of me are closing. guess I'll be doing some shopping on my way home tonight, as well as over the weekend. sorry to see them go on the tail of my local FYE, but he, at least the CAG in me is making out :)

Oh man, I knew they used to be on the other side of the tpke! I'm a Levittowner myself, don't remember Clive Barker though.

Our local store closed last week. I was expecting some major deals but by the time it was announced that the store was closing, people were trying to buy everything before any significant drop.

The two closing stores I went to had transferred all of their games out to another store. I'm not sure if the rental stores got them, because I did go to one that seemed to have a large selection of used games for sale, but it's hard to tell if they were transfers.

I'm not a movie buyer, although I would love to get the entire series of Battlestar Galactica on BD. I've seen a lot of DVD's of them but no BD.

If anyone is in the South Florida area, the BBV on Military Trail and 10th St in Deerfield Beach is closing. Not too much in the way of games, but they have some still. Games are at 40% off right now. I picked up Lego Harry Potter for PS3 for $17.99 (stickered $29.99). I didn't want to wait for the next drop in case it was gone by then, but it's still the cheapest price I've seen. Anyway, they also had some Bioshock 2's, Darksiders, UFC 2010, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Just Cause 2, Tron, and some more.

My Blockbuster (Windham, ME) is closing. Good thing I just got Netflix haha.

But anyways, I'm going to head over tomorrow to see what they've got. Has anyone had luck with their Blockbuster having Heavy Rain on sale? And if so for how much? Because that would be nice to pick up.

Gotta check around tommorow, last time i checked not a single store was closing in the area. Wouldnt mind finding some cheap games, though all the people losing jobs sucks
