What is this thread for?
The primary function of this thread is to discuss current trade-in and sale promos, post any trade-in values you have obtained, and discuss new and used game selection and availability. Please post trade-in values with the date of the trade (or quote) and system.

It is also permissible to discuss system availability, credit issues, etc. As long as it is related to game trades or sales at Blockbuster it is generally OK to discuss it here.

Unlike more tightly focused clearance threads, it is OK to discuss more general Gamerush/Blockbuster issues here as well as trade requests as long as they are kept to a minimum (and usually just during specific deals).

Due to the questionable stability of the Gamerush (and Blockbuster for that matter) brand, it is also permissible to discuss ways of converting credit from Blockbuster to other stores (ie, which games may be used for trading in to other stores such as Amazon or EB/GS). As of right now, we have no indication of Blockbuster's imminent demise, but given Blockbuster's ongoing financial difficulties we need to be aware of the possibility.

What is this thread NOT for?
Please do not discuss the flipping of games from one Blockbuster store to another should another such opportunity arise (through trade-in deals). It is one thing to "play the market" with trade-in values from one chain to another (BBVto Amazon to EB) - free market buy low/sell high and all that. But taking advantage of loopholes in a single store's policies/promos is frowned upon and has, in the past, led to trade-in bans from BBV.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blockbuster Game Trading Info
- You must sign up for a trade account in addition to your regular Blockbuster account
- You must sign up for a new trade account at every store you wish to trade at, even if using the same main account
- Trade-in credit can be placed onto your store account or onto a "Value" card
- Credit on store accounts can only be used at that one store
- However, credit can be transferred from the store account to a card at any time
- Value cards can be used at any location
- Clerks at one store cannot see your trading/purchasing history at another store via your account
- Gamerush stores often do not get new game stock until the Friday of the release week, thus a few days later than most retailers
- Depending on state law you may or may not get sales tax added to your trade-ins (and thus get more than normal). You will always be charged sales tax where applicable on purchases, even when using credit from a Value card.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush vs. regular Blockbusters
All Blockbuster game-related discussion belongs here. Most threads created in the Deals forum will be merged in to here. There seems to be the impression by many CAGs that if they don't have a Gamerush store near them (see here for a list of GR stores: http://www.blockbuster.com/content/v.4.286.1.0/media/gameStoreList.pdf) then this thread does not apply to them. However, regular (non-GR) Blockbuster stores often run the same promos and generally have the same trade-in values. I'm going to elaborate on the last sentence as people apparently don't understand that when I say regular BB's have the same trade-in values as Gamerush that it means regular Blockbuster stores accept game trade-ins just like Gamerush stores.

The key differences:
- Only Gamerush stores sell used video game hardware and generally have a much wider selection of new hardware. Most regular Blockbuster stores do not sell new hardware at all. They did a year ago or so and some may still have some of that stock, but they have stopped bringing in more to sell. They also no longer sell new games except for a few selected preorders. Regular Blockbuster stores will not take hardware in for trades.

- Both Gamerush and regular Blockbuster stores take preorders for new games for a $5 deposit (or you can pay any other amount beyond that). Gamerush stores will get many more games in than the regular stores but unfortunately a preorder at either place is not a guarantee you will get the game. Sometimes they do not get certain titles in even if you preorder them months in advance. And even if they do get them, it tends to be a few days later than other stores.

- Trade-in values are controlled centrally and are uniform across all Gamerush and Blockbuster locations EXCEPT if the Blockbuster is a franchise location. You can tell from the receipt if your store is a franchise store. All Gamerush stores are corporate-owned so they will have uniform pricing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Current Trade-In Deals
There are no trade-in deals at this time nor have there been for a very very long time. They did however just recently cut down all their trade-in values to Gamestop-like levels (but without deals to make them more appealing as at GS).

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trade-In Values

Trade-in prices are usually universal at both Blockbuster and Gamerush, but can be wildly different at franchise Blockbuster stores. Used game prices change on Sunday with trade-in price drops following the next day (Monday). Thus any quotes given in this thread will almost certainly be good through Sunday of the current week. If you want to be sure to get the same value another CAG has reported then do your trading by Sunday as the price may drop on Monday.

Also note that many stores will no longer accept video games without cover art. This is the official policy for DVD trade-ins but apparently many clerks will confuse the two and not allow it for games either. Just beware that it might be a hassle if you have a disc-only game to trade.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gamerush website
The old Gamerush web site is now defunct, but the following link will take you to Blockbuster online, which may or may not have some info there about games. I dunno - I haven't looked at it in years.

So sad to see Blockbuster's BM stores go, but at least I'm still renting games from them online. Don't really mind the 3 month delay since I'm trying to finish school.

The store at Main and Preston in Frisco Texas is closing. I went by today and they are at 10% off everything right now and the games are already picked over. I picked up a Ghost Squad for Wii for about $7, I figured that was about the cost of a rental so the short gameplay would not be an issue. Also picked up 15 empty cases.

Sad. In a 25 mile radius, the Tampa area is losing quite a few stores:

Anyone have a comprehensive list of what they keep in stock "generally" for a store closing. Got one near by me hoping to maybe get COD: Black Ops (PS3), Uncharted 1+2 , and Assassin's Creed Bloodlines (PSP)

Shirley/Mastic NY closing , was at two different closing BB's today and both had Marvel vs. CAPCOM 3 360 $54.99 and Dead Space 2 360 $54.99 was surprised to see them . Long Island is sheding BB's at furious rate , sadness :(

Some stores ship stuff out, some stores get stuff shipped in. Last year one of my closing stores had new games for sale going back to the Original Gameboy & Super Nintendo.
All closing stores ship new release titles within 30 days off to other stores this is games as well. While it's true that they ship a lot of stuff out to to other stores they also get a ton of stuff shipped to them it's just a lot of older crap that nobody wants. Blu ray titles start at 15% off and stay at the % til the last few days of the sale.

FYI, the 40" Sony Bravia tv that's stores have is now for sale at $400. This is the first time that these have been made available for sale. I'm helping out at a closing store and just sold the kiosk and tv for $500.
Aren't those on 24/7?

My store in Bloomington IL is closing.

Crap for deals though. All the clearance stuff was marked back to MSRP (the pink clearance tag was slightly visible) and there were approx 20 games in total, 15 of which were New Vegas.
Hot shit! My closing BBV is pushing a refer-a-friend promo for $5 off any purchase, just for giving them an email address. The people working there suggested taking advantage of it, so having my own domain and unlimited email finally pays off.

(($6.99 - 15%) - $5) + tax = $1.30 Blu rays? Yes please!

EDIT: And before anyone starts crying SCAM or whatever, the on-duty manager called the DM and got approval for it.
Sadly, BB seems to have fixed this somewhat. Their system now tracks email addresses and credit card numbers, and cockblocks you if either is a duplicate.

Still fun to exploit, though--ended up with The White Ribbon, The Road, and A Prophet for a little under $4 total.

Nice find, but I think that list on the PDF is pretty dated. The Livonia, MI location on the list, for instance, closed last summer, almost a year ago, and it doesn't list either of the two local stores that apparently closed around Christmastime, nor either of the two local stores that I know are currently closing. Thanks for sharing, though.

All the games went on the first day, needed to be there when they opened!

May be late but for those in Jacksonville, Florida, the store on Beach BLVD/St. Johns is closing. Saw the banner on my way to class earlier this morning. They have some decent multiplatform stuff left like Bioshock 2 and PoP: Forgotten Sands but I didn't notice much else that was good, IMO. Didn't bother to check movies though as they seemed pretty well picked over.

Sorry, but only idiots would be buying crap at 10% off. Their prices weren't great when the Sale started. So unless you were uninformed or simply desperate, I don't see the point of people buying the games at such a measly discount.
These same people always ruin possible good deals for others..., and even themselves, if only they'd wait and have some patience.

roughlt how long is the wait before prices go lower than 10%. games are still overpriced and there movie are horribly priced

I went to two Blockbusters yesterday in Vancouver, WA that are closing. In my opinion, no deals to be had.

The first store I went to had 9 days to go and had absolutely zero games. The only thing game related were some guides at 10% off....what a deal! Blu-rays were $5.59 & up (for the same crap I bought from HWV for $2.99-$3.99 at their closings).

The next store just started their closing and did have some games. I did not see any percentage discount posted for the few games they had. They had used titles out on the floor and some new stuff behind the counter. I did find a copy of Call of Duty Black Ops USED for the Wii and it was tagged $3.99. Anyway, took it to the counter where the clerk scanned it and said, "Oh sorry, this was mistagged and is actually $39.99, do you still want it?" It figures...the one thing I find is mistagged by $36.00 and they won't honor the marked price. So, I ended up walking out with nothing and probably won't waste anymore time at their store closings.

Price drops 3/7

Star wars force unleashed 2 $39.99

roughlt how long is the wait before prices go lower than 10%. games are still overpriced and there movie are horribly priced

Games stay at 10% for 2 weeks which by that time 90% of the games r gone. Most games sell within the first week if not sooner.

It's ridiculous at closing stores all prp movies start at $9.99 when u can go to a non closing store and get the 4 for $20 deal. It amazes me when I help out at a closing stores and people buying stacks of movies at $10 a pop.
Add Wilkes-Barre(PA) store to the closing list: http://www.timesleader.com/news/Blockbuster_store_closing_02-23-2011.html

I don't know if this was the 2010 closing list of 145 stores or not, but I found THIS article on another webpage detailing BBV's attempts to get outta bankruptcy.

The list starts on page 11 of the .pdf .
Where is the one in Wilkes Barre? I never seen it before but I work in Wilkes Barre so taking a stop in if it's easy to get too might be a good idea.

My hometown Blockbuster is closing and I haven't seen the parking lot so full on a weekday afternoon in 10+ years. Kinda sad. If the huddled masses only knew of the regular good deals, then maybe so many stores wouldn't have to close.

Good price drop on FO NV, but I already have a copy that my one buddy is borrowing currently.

It amuses me as well that so many people buy up so much stuff at the closing stores w/in the first couple of weeks. Then again, if those same consumers were as smart as CAG's and waited for price drops and shopped around, then some of us would likely miss out on the better deals because we'd be competing with them.

But I still laugh that I can recall going to store closing sales 4-6 years ago and finding TONS of good stuff left within the last week of business. Whatever has changed since then is definitely not for the better for a deal hunter, but definitely is good for the liquidators.:bomb:
Where is the one in Wilkes Barre? I never seen it before but I work in Wilkes Barre so taking a stop in if it's easy to get too might be a good idea.
It's the one on Kidder Street, which is the main road into WB if you're coming off of Route 315 from Pittston/Plains. It's in the same plaza as Ollie's. It'd be on the left if going down Kidder from the entrance to the Wyoming Valley Mall.

My closing Blockbuster had games at 40% off last week. There are 7 days left, so I went back today to get a game at 50% off. Everything else in the store dropped (dvd's at 80%, Bluray at 25%, etc) except games. I expected them to be 50% off today. Does anyone know if they usually drop the games when it's a few days before close? Or did my store maybe forget to change the signs?
Picked up Marvel vs Capcom 3 today for $25 used. Store was at 50% off and apparently nobody around my area plays games. More for me! :D
Nice!

Crap found out today that yet another local store looks like it will be closing, they pulled most of the new rentals over the weekend. Without a local presence the BB by Mail is looking more and more pointless as without the instore returns I may as well just increase by netflix subscription to include dvd's.

West Pasco? No wonder. The entire area seems to be 55+. The fact that the BBV had games at all would be interesting :p

It's ridiculous at closing stores all prp movies start at $9.99 when u can go to a non closing store and get the 4 for $20 deal. It amazes me when I help out at a closing stores and people buying stacks of movies at $10 a pop.
It's a tried and true process that "going out of business" brings customers in and has them make purchases based on the limited availability of the product.

Furniture stores had been doing this for years - announcing big closing sales and running through product, only to re-open under a different name with the same ownership. In Ohio at least they have cracked down on this - but the formula still works.

The best deals I got from the closing HWV and BB stores around me were for empty cases and old PS2 games that I bought in the last days.

Yup, good thing I live in an area with all Senior Citizens! A couple college kids but not that many that are on here really and care to go to blockbuster every week.

I live in a heavy young college area so deals at my BBV are being snatched up quite quickly. On another note the last Mom and Pop video rental shop in this area is going out of business next month too, seems like I'll be dropping by to take a look soon, but its really sad to see such an establishment go.
Price drops 3/7

:ps3: :360:

Fallout nv $24.99
Star wars force unleashed 2 $39.99

:wii:

Star wars $29.99

Games stay at 10% for 2 weeks which by that time 90% of the games r gone. Most games sell within the first week if not sooner.
Will those prices reflect on closing stores? My local has a ton of each of those, if they could hold out a few more weeks I might bite.

The local mom and pop video rental here has been up for sale for years. The only thing that has kept his doors open is his immense porn selection.

Usually the liquidators will bump the price up to MSRP for each game and then begin the discounts from there.

we have no liquidators and nothing gets bumped up to msrp then discounted. whatever the price is when they start the closing process is the price the game sells at minus any % off.

when the first round of bbv closings started a little over a year ago hilco was the company that helped with the liquidation process but it was just for those initial closing stores. a hilco rep would be assigned a certain # of stores to help in the process.

no. price drops are not effective in any closing store.

So wait, the company themselves are the ones running the liquidation sales? That's unusual, to say the least.:whistle2:#

This isn't a liquidation sale. Blockbuster hasn't reached that phase yet. They are shutting down a lot, but not all of their stores and reducing stock.
Stopped in there last night, pretty miserable prices still, though there were some decent TV seasons for $20 per season, shame it was only DVD though and not Bluray (which were being sold per disc instead of per season), otherwise I'd have got some. Shame though, I use that BBV a decent bit, now no where to rent games other than Gamefly.
I stopped in last night. The season dvd's are down to $17.99 and games are 20%. The games are pretty wiped out.
I'm not going to argue the stupidity of others, but people were pretty much picking up all the cheap games for 360/PS3 and just grabbing the Wii/DS games like they were all OOP. I only grabbed 3 games (Dante's PS3, Koronopia Wii, and Boom Blox Wii) and figured that if any were left when the good percentages hit then I'd pick up some more.

Besides, the store is freaking right across from State Farm's corporate office - you really thought that the games were going to stay there for weeks?
Yep. They still have games? That's unusual.
They only have like 5 left. I was thinking of getting one, but I was also thinking it would drop to 50%. Decisions decisions. Thanks for the info!

Well, today is the moment of truth for BBV. According to a CNN report I read a Federal judge will decide today whether BBV continues on or faces complete liquidation.

Hi, gang. A number of the Atlanta-area BBs are in the closing process -- can anyone speak to how the Blu-rays drop in price as things go on? At the moment, 15 percent off 12.99 doesn't feel like enough of a deal to bite. Thanks.

Eventually used Blu-rays will go to 20%, and 25% in the final week. New Blu-rays will never get above 10%.

This is all assuming Blockbuster's B&M division will be operating normally after today, of course.

Around here, It didn't drop more.

RIP BBV... The BBV by me has finally kicked the bucket. I don't even know where the next closest one is since the other two closed down within the last couple of years. It's too bad since it's where I exchanged my online trade ins and used my free game rental coupons.

Looking back though, that's probably why they're closing. The store wasn't getting any money from me aside from the occasional clearanced game sale.

Stopped by my BBV the other night. Didn't know it was closing but they just started I would say. They are at the first phase, 10% off, and they had 3 wii games, about 6 360 games and maybe 10 ps3 games?! Where did all the games go? did people really eat them up at these prices?!?!

a lot of times, they get shipped to other, more successful stores. in my area, 2 were closing and they sent them all the merchandise they couldn't sell and vice versa. be patient and check back frequently. there are usually more things that come in.
