The official N-Gage thread

No dice on the SD cards.

Universal price drop starts Thursday; the N-Gage QD can be had for $100 new, and games retail new for $15-25 (no more $35 nonsense).

myke.

I wonder what this will mean for the regular N-Gage. Hopefully, we'll see an even better price drop for the used ones.

I got my original model N-Gage in the mail yesterday. The previous owner left his Contact list on there, as well as some nice porn pics. This is well worth $40-50. I haven't activated it as a phone yet, or bought any games, but it has excellent radio and MP3 capabilities. The screen is really crisp. The unit is much smaller than I thought it would be. Yes, sidetalkin' makes you look idiotic, but one thing in its favor is that it's very easy to put the speaker holes directly over your ear. With many other phones, I'm sliding it around trying to line everything up. With a 512MB card and some aftermarket software (movie player, emulator, etc.), this is a real bargain for what you're getting.

Anyone else think side-talkin' will be retro cool in a few years?

I think it's cool now. Yes, I am a nerd.

Hmm. Well, the games on EB have been changed.

The phone *should* be $100. But you're right. Sorry for the confusion.

myke.
...waiting for a call from a local GS manager about a used RE3 GC.

If anyone's got a sec will they look on their N Gage charger. Below the 2 prongs does it say C6 B or C6 C? Thanks.

Mine has a B to the left of the prongs, but that's it. Below the prongs are two lines of long numbers, with nothing near what you mentioned.

I'm not really sure why this thread should be in the Old School forum since the N-Gage is still fully supported by Nokia.

But anyway, I just picked up another 1st gen N-Gage yesterday, and I'm extremely happy about it. I always love going through and seeing the different pictures and notes the previous owner has in it.

Have any of you guys tried out the new SNES emulator?

I've been outta the N-Gage scene for awhile now, so can anyone give me an update on what's going on? New games and such.

I actually saw some N-Gage games that looked interesting. X-Men Legends, the new Elder Scrolls game, and one called Pathway to Glory. PTG is a WWII game that is supposed to play like X-Com. If it really DOES play like X-Com, I would consider getting an N-Gage just to play that.

And this forum is Old School and Other Gaming Systems. N-Gage falls under the 'Other' category.:)

Ahhhh, I see now!

From ViolentLee's review of PTG, it seems very, very good. But supposedly, Elder Scrolls has a lot of bugs.

In other news, I didn't realize N-Gage games were so cheap. Is $25 the going price on new releases? All handheld games ought to be like that.

Yup. That's actually the highest the games go for, some are even cheaper.

You thinkin' about joining the Dark Side?

yep. That is the new policy by Nokia that all games retail for 25 or less

I surprise even myself when I say...yes. For the price of just a PSP, I could get an N-Gage and a big batch of what appears to be decent games.

The latest issue of Computer Games spotlighted some N-Gage games and they don't seem half bad. Path To Glory is really what got me thinking though. X-Men Legends and Elder Scrolls look pretty slick, and there was one or two FPS games that appear to be good as well.

If finances permit it this month, I might have an N-Gage QD to go along with my NGPC, Game Gear, Game.com and Virtual Boy table (aka Island of Lost Gaming Platforms). Normally I'd just jump right in and order one but I bought a PSP not long ago AND had to throw down $150 for a new Xbox this week. I'm trying to not spend all my money in one go.

I'm trying to collect all the titles, since the price drop makes most titles reasonable, and occasionally finding titles between $2 and $5 at EB makes even the most unbearable game (Tomb Raider) worth owning.

myke.
...although I must say that I am tempted to search for betas of unreleased games (Alien Front, Taito Memories, etc.) that may never see the light of day. But of course, I don't condone any of that. ;)

I have both a taco N-Gage and the QD, and I think I'm going to switch back to the original. Yes, side-talkin' is ridiculous, but trying to position the ear-holes of the QD to where I can hear anything is really irritating. Side-talkin' lines up everything correctly, or I can just listen through the keypad perfectly well (I can't seem to find a way to increase the volume of the QD speaker). Additionally, the radio and MP3 of the original are really nice functions, not to mention video playback. I don't have Bluetooth on my PC, so the USB connection is much easier. I like the keypad of the QD more, but find it a little harder to answer/hang up a call. The games are a nice bonus, but I don't think most rise to the level of GBA titles. I play Snakes more than anything.

I have a very near complete collection myself, including a game called Space Impact that's in N-Gage casing, no screenshots, and my contacts at Nokia don't even know about. The only unreleased roms I think I have are Virtua Cop and upcoming stuff. For my full (retail-version) collection, check out my list in my sig. I have 33 at the mo; I think I'm just missing FIFA 2004 and Asphalt Urban GT.

So Lee, what new games are on the horizon?
Virtua Fighter?
My bad, I meant Virtua COP. Edited post.
So Lee, what new games are on the horizon?
Currently sitting on Roots review rom, WWE Aftershock preview (published a preview on ngage.gamespy.com ), and Xanadu Next preview rom. Also only have a rom of Worms World Party (reviewed recently), but should get boxed of that soon.

I haven't checked out the E3 asset disc yet -- though even if I did, its info is embargoed.

I'm always up for a decent portable wrestling title, but Aftershock looks pretty bad.

Damn, the more I read about Pathway to Glory the more I want it.

Do you hear that, Clerk. It's calling you. Yes, you know what it is. You want it, don't you? What's $50 more on the credit card? Just get it!
$50? What the hell game is $50?
I think he's referring to a used N-Gage system, which is $50.

I don't see any instock at EB's online store. Really need to wait for Friday...

My recommendation is for Chaos Theory; if they would have put out a title like this at launch, it would have a much better reputation.

Yeah, I was.

Check gamestop.com's instore locater. You might be able to find a unit in your area.

Not likely. My area is still waiting on that new fangled 'sunlight' I hear is all the rage these days.

I was just checking out the IGN N-Gage page, and it looks like there are some awesome games coming out.

Civilization
Roots (A Baldur's Gate type game)
Glimmerati (A decent looking racing game)
High Seize (A cool looking Pirate RPG)
And some sort of turn-based RPG

This game looks pretty impressive.

Nokia and Jadestone todaySpirits sees players fighting The Cut, a doomsday sect whose goal is to stop Earth's over population by triggering natural disasters and killing innocent people.

"The collaboration between Nokia and Jadestone has produced a collectible MMOG with a powerful storyline that is with you wherever you go. It is a classic battle between good and evil with a captivating sci-fi twist that makes the game very addicting." says Gregg Sauter, Director of Games Publishing, Nokia.

"Spirits will appeal to fans of collectible games, MMORPGs and strategy games. This is the first Spirits game in what we hope will be a very successful franchise, which should resonate well with audiences beyond the sci-fi and fantasy crowd." Robert Henrysson, CEO of Jadestone continues.

The core game play in Spirits is based on players hunting and collecting spirits. Gamers will test their skills in duels where tactical thinking as well as quick reactions will make all the difference. In the race to save mankind there is only one way to win: mastering the elements.

Hey could someone here maybe give me some advice.....The rubber flap on the top has lifted up on the opposite side of how it is supposed to go (opposite of when you want to charge it) It is forever sticking up and i cannot figure out how to stick it back down. Any advice?

Anyone know of the best deals for a pre-owned/non cell phone plan N-Gage? I'm seeing Gamestop offers pre-owned ngages for $49.99, but it doesn't state if it comes with a dummy sims card or not. I'm thinking as a gaming, mp3 and movie device I might be able to justify buying an ngage in the $30 range considering I just picked up 7 of it's games NEW for $26ish, yet I still don't have Morrowind, Worms, KOF or Ghost Recon.

Supposedly, T-Mobile has a really good plan for N-Gagers. Their T-Zone plan gives you unlimited internet access so you can play as many online games as you wish.

Also, the two N-Gages that I've purchased from Gamestop have both come with SIM cards. The first came with a T-Mobile, and the second came with the official N-Gage SIM card.

Trust me, if you spend a little time learning all that the N-Gage can do, I promise you will fall in love with it. The only problem is trying to hunt down Gamestops that actually have an N-Gage.
I finally got up my coverage of N-Gage at E3, in case anyone is interested: http://ngage.gamespy.com/index.html
Awesome, man. I'm going to have to check that out.

Have any of you guys tried out V-Sun, the N-Gage's SNES emulator? I remember for the longest time people said the N-Gage couldn't run an SNES emulator, but Vampent was able to pull it off.

I've heard it doesn't run the games at full speed, though. But Vampent has recently released an update that speeds up gameplay and uses less RAM, which is always a good thing.

Anyone heard of a game called Space Impact? I picked it up at a Half Price Books about a year and a half ago. It looks like an N-Gage game, with the same type of case/logos, but there's nothing where screenshots would be.

My PR contact at Nokia doesn't even know much about it. He said it's probably one of the cell phone-esque titles that they didn't meet their standards (like Taito Treasures, eventually). It's shrink-wrapped, or I'd check it out. Just wondering if anyone else knows anything about it.
