Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

That six pack might have been during the Thanksgiving promo a few years ago where they had deals on buying unusually large sized packs of games -- some even came in a ten pack. With that new CS game in beta I'm sure CS:S is bound to get a steep discount (again) sooner rather than later.

i can't get myself to buy Sequence......it just have this feeling its going to end up in a crappy Indie Royale bundle that i'll hate myself for buying later.

Bought it at full price, no regret. Very charming game with a bunch of comedy.

It's charming and worth the entry price.

What they said. Awesome game and well worth full price, let alone half off.

I'll be the lone dissenting voice against Sequence then. Here were my comments on it during the Winter Sale:
Waaaaay too much RPG in my puzzler/rhythm game. Shut up already and stop making me click to advance the really dull conversation. I wasn't crazy about having to worry about constructing and deconstructing stuff to use during the battles. It isn't fun and it gets in the way of the game. I played 42 minutes and about 12 of that was the actual game. For the sake of comparison... I love Puzzle Quest.

Once you get in and get going it's a really novel idea - 3 rhythm streams: offense/defense/mana. It works well enough but the button pressing seemed a bit imprecise to me. (I used an Xbox 360 controller). I might try it again to see if it's less wordy once you get through the tutorial but geez....
Sequence will probably be in a low tier indie bundle.

I'm going to play against type and admit to liking Sequence a lot. The dialogue is almost oppressively nerd hipster Wheadon-esque but I enjoyed it. The performances are pretty dang good, all things considered. The gameplay itself is novel enough. It's not a genre launcher but managing three boards of DDR at once gives it the frantic pacing that makes it worthwhile. The downside is that ALL IT IS is chatter and this DDR nonsense. Having to do entire songs to get new spells is also a huge punishment just because of how many times you're going to do these songs. You have to grind for low drop rate nonsense against several enemies to advance or get gear to help you survive against the bosses (Or to get the secret ending.).

For the price, I would say it is pretty good. It started as an XBLIG so if there's no PC demo, you can get a demo there. I recommend it if you can stomach nerdy hipster too-cute-by-half dialogue and the DDR thing doesn't sound offensive.

Also, the plot isn't too bad, I don't think. I liked the ending well enough, despite the complete obvious lack of value in capturing this hipster and throwing him in some sort of magic dungeon. The secret ending made so much more sense than the normal ending, I predicted it completely. Still, the game tells a satisfying yarn with a real ending which is more than most games can manage.

Plus the Sequence dev gave out free copies on Neogaf last year, where speaking of which, it only took me 3 months to get approved.

For Neogaf that was quick. :p

Make sure you log in every so often or they will delete your account without prior notification. It happened to me and took me six months to get a new one activated.

Yeah, I was expecting a longer wait from what people here said. And thanks for the heads-up. I've posted there only once, and of course embarrassed myself.

You sure? I see no president's day dlc, just the free one from v-day still.

It's called Dungeon Defenders - President's Day Surprise, top of the new releases

Celebrate President’s Day in Etheria with the “President’s Day: Battle Royale” holiday event!

Pitch your heroes against each other in the ‘Presidential Battle Arena,’ where you’ll have to not only fight each other for the most points, but do so while evading the deadly Demon Boss. Beat the mission to be awarded a ‘presidential’ skin for your class, a unique pet, or more!

There was some type of update. Another 350 mb or or something to that effect.

Thanks for the head's up. I definitely wouldn't have spotted that without you calling it to my attention.

Frankly, it looks kinda stupid. But free is free.

Thanks. I'm visiting home on some family business and may not have noticed it on Steam before it goes paid like previous holiday DLC has. I love being able to purchase content licenses online when away from my gaming machines. I hope Sony joins in someday.
I believe Steam now lists which 3rd party DRM a game uses right after the "Languages" description in the "Game Details" section. There's no such listing for Wolfenstein so it looks like you're good to go.
That's no guarantee unfortunately. A number of games on Steam have DRM that is not listed in column to the right. Instead they are often buried in the system requirements, sometimes a bit cryptically worded even. There have even been cases of games that don't have any mention of the DRM anywhere.

No prob. I actually just purchased this from amazon so being able to get the V-Day and P-Day DLC for free was nice. I actually am looking forward the the donkey and elephant pets from the P-Day one.

The dialogue is a combination of Joss Whedon and Wil Wheaton?! Can't get any more geek cred than that!

Quick question.

I read elsewhere (can't remember which thread) that Payday: The Heist is going to be $5 as an Amazon Digital Download later this week.

I really want the game, and that's the cheapest I've seen, but I live in the UK and I don't think I can buy through the website.

What happens when you buy through Amazon? Do you just get sent a Steam code?

Yup
Awesome, thanks. Guess I'll be badgering somebody to get one for me
I'd be happy to help you with that once the deal goes live. You helped me get the GTA Pack over the holiday sale at UK prices, so I'd like to return the favor.

On another topic, does anybody know if Unstoppable Gorg was given away free somewhere recently? I'm seeing a heck of a lot of people offering keys to the game on trading forums.

I'd stay away from steam keys on the steam forums. I stupidly got burnt on the whole dead island key fiasco. You live you learn

Oh yeah, I've heard stories about trades for keys going bad or people getting screwed over with stolen keys. I have no plans of trading for any keys. I was just wondering where all the keys came from all of a sudden. Looks like pROvIs found the answer though. Thanks to him.

I'll again offer up my Focus Home Interactive 10% off coupon for anyone who wants it, tho you need to wait until this evening for me to actually trade it.

I trade codes all the time with people on CAG or somewhere with an actual feedback system and reputation. However, I'd stay away from Keys and Paypal on Steam Forums. Both have been known to backfire.

My slightly off topic story of when I was burnt in the spoiler below.

The worst I have been burnt with digital codes is when I bought my iPad, I bought 3 iTunes GCs from ebay in order to save a few bucks. It was a big mistake. I didn't realize how sketchy they were. Consider me an uneducated consumer. I had sold GCs in the past on ebay myself so thought it was people like me. All three I bought were from different sellers. They redeemed and I was using them for about a month and then all of a sudden my iTunes account was locked including all my purchases I ever made with those giftcards and without.

It was a very painful support experience dealing with Apple as they had no sympathy and talked to me like I was a crook even after giving them proof of purchase etc. They would hardly give me any information and I couldn't talk directly with the department making the decisions I had to relay all my responses through customer service and they would send them over text to them.

I finally got them to answer and I can't remember if two of them or three of them ended up being bought with stolen cards. Either way they tried to tell me that because it wasn't a single occurance and had been more than one my account could never be reactivated. Finally, after a few days of badgering them they reactivated my account as a "one time courtesy" and took all remaining funds from my itunes wallet.

That was my first and last experience buying second hand GCs on ebay. I always thought that once redeemed you were golden. Guess not.

Yeah I just bought a saints row key from someone on here last night. I trust users here...the steam forums are like the wild west though. Anything goes
I traded an Unstoppable Gorg key with someone from the Steam forums. The guy had good rep and was OK with giving the key first. Since the Saphire deal was legit, I went ahead. The game activated and downloaded with no problems.
It's probably legit. In some cases though even when the code redeems, later it is revoked. This happened with both the Dirt 3 and Dead Island keys in the wild.

Thanks for the story, pROvIs. I've always been wary of keys anyways, and I think that's kinda confirmed it for me.

I'll stick to trading gifts, spare codes can go to friends.

Yup that was my dead island key. Had it for 2 months and just the other day I have the big mean message from steam on my account

Are there usually any big sales this time of year? I know there's the summer sale and holiday sale which I missed out on this year, but just built my new PC and I'm looking to build the backlog with some new stuff.

Big ones are usually Summer and Winter. However, most of the major holidays have a minor sale. I'm surprised there wasnt anything for Valentines day. I'm pretty sure they did something for it last year. I'm pretty sure they will do something for Easter.

Most of the big sales for PC right now are coming from Amazon and Green Man Gaming. Many of which activate on Steam.
