Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Mirror's Edge with mouse and keyboard can get pretty insane. (in the best way)

I'm in for Serious Sam 2 if that is indeed one of the weekend deals.
I got it the last time it went $4.99. Like the rest of the EA Games, buying it from Steam is the only way to get it on Steam.

If anyone cares, it doesn't register on Origin because there is no key. The Time Trials DLC is Origin only, but I did find a fan made mod a while back that was free and basically the same thing as the Time Trials.

Supposedly, some people have gotten sympathetic EA reps to register it on Origin for them, but don't count on it.
I thought Mirror's edge was one of the games that had your unique cd key hidden in the registry and you could use that to register on origin.

Yeah, it says In addition all individual games are 66%

Wow, Steam has some Serious deals today. Ok enough with the bad puns, but Deus Ex is fantastic, Serious Sam is great, and Mirror's Edge is good. I give my recommendation to all of those.

I'm sure most of you know by now, but by Deus Ex. The best single player experience I've had in a long while, it's the complete package. Great gameplay, great replayability, great story. The only somewhat disappointing side is the graphics. They're serviceable, but no Crysis. Doesn't detract from the experience though. Oh, and the boss battles. Just pretend like they don't exist, and you'll do fine.

What many people probably haven't heard much about it is the Missing Link DLC. I would say for $5, it's worth another 3-4 hours (for me, at least) of Deus Ex goodness. There's not much in the way of amazing story, but there are some cool alternate ways of handling things, the boss battle isn't a total wreck like the campaign ones, and there is some interesting stuff that goes on that sets the stage for more Deus Ex. However, if you're expecting more of the open world side of things, you won't find it with Missing Link. Aside from a couple of side objectives, this part of the game is pretty straight up linear. Not a bad thing, just make sure you don't expect more.

As for the other mini-dlc's, at 1/3 the regular price, I guess they couldn't hurt, but I've heard they add nothing of great value.

If there is I never found it and I went digging through the registry and a bunch of Steam threads and never found any concrete info to that effect. That said, if someone does know of a way to register it that doesn't involve calling EA's customer service 40 times until you get someone helpful by all means let us know.

I myself loved the gameplay of Deus Ex HR and the DLC, but found the story itself "meh". I was fine with the graphics because the art direction is great, but found the repetitive character movements during conversations quite annoying.

It shows US$ 16.99 for me, is that right or is this happening only here in Brazil?

BTW, Green Man Gaming is supposed to have it for 75% off tomorrow, and it's a Steamworks title.

Thanks for the heads up. Going to wait on that and see, but probably in for Mirrors Edge and maybe a Serious Sam game or two. Been interested in Deus Ex for a while though.

Deux EX question: Are the double barrel shotgun and silenced sniper unlocked only through the DLC or can they be found in-game ? 10k additional credits is not a big deal to me.

TIA!

If you search the Steam forums, you will find a post that list graphics mods you can do to make Dues Ex look better.

They're only available if you buy the DLC. If you have the DLC you start with them at the beginning and they are also then found around the world.

BTW I am pretty sure The Missing Link is stand alone content and does not need the base game to run. It says it requires it but it shows up as a seperate game in steam lists. Maybe you have to own it to buy it on steam but I'm pretty sure a CD key will just activate it sans game.

This may be useful for someone who played the game on console etc.

Though it appears as a separate game on your Games list on Steam, the Missing Link store page says you need the base game in order to play it.

Nice to see SS3 BFE down to a cheap price. I missed the prior sale when it was $20, though that's good now that we can get it for $13.60 or cheaper from Steam.

Anyone wouldn't happen to have an extra binding of isaac coupon laying around would they? Been trying to pm people over on the steam forums that have like 5 each and getting no response.9

Definitely want Serious Sam 2 and 3:BFE and Mirror's Edge. :D

And the Amazon sale got me today too. Bought Darksiders, Zeno Clash, and Red Faction: Armageddon. All of those are Steam redeemable, for those curious.
I don't think anyone mentioned the Amazon Sale going on right now either.

Here are some Steam Highlights:

For anyone in the UK considering Deus Ex HR, there's a thread on the Steam forums pointing to a potentially better deal than the weekend deal price.

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2561638

Basically, you can pick up the game from Amazon and get the rest of the DLC for less than the base game price. However, as a word of caution, the games are expected to ship March 2nd so you won't be seeing them right away.

As a note, I don't live in the area so I don't have any firsthand experience with this so if anyone wants to verify or deny it, please feel free to do so.

Ok, I'm finally gonna pick up Deus Ex, but I'm trying to figure out if I should go with the regular game or the "Augmented edition". After checking out what the AE offers over the regular edition, I think I'm just gonna go with the regular.

Augmented Edition:

Exclusive 40-page Artbook - Showcasing the concepts behind the world of 2027. Discover the origins of the design, the characters and the weapons of Deus Ex: Human Revolution - kinda cool, but I'd look at it once, then never touch it again.

44-minute making-of chronicling the trials and tribulations of the Eidos-Montreal team - I'd probably never watch this.

Motion comic based on the first issue of the DC Comics adaptation - I'd probably never watch this either.

Game soundtrack composed by Michael McCann - kinda want, but could live without

E3 Trailer and animated storyboard - who cares?

Am I missing something? Is there any actual in-game content contained in the Augmented edition that I'd be going without if I got the regular edition?

I think I'm going to get Red Faction Armageddon, Mirrors Edge, and Darksiders for 15 bucks. On the fence on Deus Ex. Always wanted to give it a try, but I find $10 to be a little much for a game that I may or may not get around to playing, and that I can't sell back or trade in. I'll probably end up getting it though.

Unless you are getting an actual physical copy of the Augmented edition (in which case, you'll just have some physical goodies), the extras there are all digital and don't have anything special gameplay-wise compared to the standard edition.

Thanks for this. I didn't see it mention Steam anywhere on the page so I figured I wasn't interested. If it activates on Steam and especially if it essentially gives you Supreme Commander Gold for the sale price on the expansion, I'm in.

edit: and it worked. Sweet deal!

Alright, that's what it looked like to me. Thanks for confirming it for me.

Regular edition it is.

For a non-holiday sale, I've dropped a lot of money into Steam the past few days.

Mirror's Edge: $4.99 (Steam)
Red Faction Armageddeon + DLC: $6.75 (Amazon)
Payday: The Heist: $5.00 (Amazon)
Saints Row The Third: $15 (CAG Seller)

This is the first time in a while - including the winter sale - that I really really wish I hadn't gone on a self-imposed buying embargo. I'd love to get Deus Ex, BFE, Random Encounter and Double D for...$26? Good lord. But hey, if they're this cheap now, they can only get cheaper.

A lot of sites will tell you right on the game page. Otherwise, Steam has a page detailing a bunch of them, and a thread detailing more. Wikipedia is also a good source. Just search for the game on google with activate on steam.

That Steam page is not the be all end all though. Ideally the store you are buying it from will give you this information but Amazon is really bad about doing that while Gamersgate gives a very obtuse "Requires 3rd party download" message.

In general, recent games from 2K, Bethesda and THQ will activate on Steam while others like EA, Ubisoft, Rockstar, Atari, etc will not. There are exceptions though.

You can always ask around and for Amazon I find checking the reviews helps since if a game does require Steam at least will person will complain about it in a review. :p

It's not even the full soundtrack, you're gonna have to buy the soundtrack again if you want the complete soundtrack. The augmented edition OST is 12 tracks while the full download/CD release of it is 25.

Yes, in addition just because a game was at one point steamworks or retail copies are steam activatable it doesnt mean the Digital counterpart will be. Sometimes a game has different DRM for other digital retailers as opposed to the retail steamworks version(Ex. FEAR 2). Also, sometimes a game is reissued which had steamworks originally but no longer has it. Generally this happens when they go DRM free (Ex. Velvet Assassain/Trine).

Deus Ex HR is amazing. I think it is even better than the original, if only because it is a more refined experience. I even really enjoyed the boss battles and have absolutely no idea why they get so much hate. Gamers these days can't handle a swerve.

Granted, they are far from my ideal fights but they are still enjoyable for the options on display.

The preorder DLC packs are a bit weak. The extra mission just feels like a short little skirmish tucked into the plot. They cut the cheapest mission for that pack. The grenade launcher is freakishly overpowered (Even compared to the fearsome exploding bullet revolver mod) and only doled out to you about two-thirds through the game. The AUDs make a game without taking any hack skill playable, but they do kinda cheapen the hack limitations. You can just play through the game discarding them anyway. Still, I bought them to have the options.

The Missing Link DLC is fantastic. It seems like something that may have been cut from the main game but I just am not seeing it, apart from the final boss foreshadowing that goes on. Even if it is cut, it is a self-contained experience, satisfying, and with enough rework to really deliver the DX:HR quality.

Also, yes, Augmented Edition soundtrack is woefully incomplete but it has some good tracks. I don't think you'll get a good complete soundtrack unless you just go download the rip of the game. So many songs have Calm, Tense, Action variations all so different that a rising suite of all three themes just does not mesh as well as the individual parts.

Serious Sam remains a series I keep trying and failing to like. Trying to retail SS3:BFE at $40 is still a joke and is why the game bombed. Nobody on Steam bought the previous two SSes for any more than $15 and there is not enough new and good in SS3 to justify the price increase. To that end, the 66% still feels like a gag deal, down to what it should have been at the start.

Plus, the ad campaign is so engineered. INDIE INDIE INDIE INDIE NO COVER INDIE. Good grief guys.

Anyway, SS3:BFE is still pretty decent but like every SS game it just gets boring well before the end. SS3 moreso because the enemy encounters are so geared toward constant respawning trickles dragging each fight out to ridiculous lengths without actually putting you against ridiculous odds.

Worth noting, if you cheat in the final level and just walk through it with invincibility, you will get a checkpoint roughly every 7 seconds of pure forward motion. That's HOW MUCH they expect to keep you fighting for each small patch of dirt.

If anyone's got a coupon -25% off Serious Sam 3 BFE and is willing to give it away or trade it, PM please. If you plan on using it to buy SS3 PM as well, I might have an offer you'd be interested in.

Do you need to play the original Deus Ex to follow this one?

Absolutely not. Hell, the new one barely connects to the old one apart from a few references. It might be cool if you recognize the names of a few of the DX1 characters but there is no need to have played the first
Opinions seem to vary greatly on ss2. Anyone have thoughts on it?
It's generally regarded as the weakest in the series. It's more cartoonish and was developed more for consoles. Having said that, it's a fully competent arcade shooter. Just pretend it isn't SS and you're good to go.

Yes, and that's why I think you don't like the series. That's what it's about. Fighting for nearly every inch of ground during the swarm levels/portions of levels.

It's clearly not for you. You've admirably hung in there and need to move on. :D

It also happens to be what some people love about the series, so I think that, for you, never the twain shall meet.

It's not fighting for every square inch of dirt I hate. Just that the fighting itself isn't as fun as they seem to think it is. Maybe it's six of one, half a dozen of the other, I dunno.
A lot of sites will tell you right on the game page. Otherwise, Steam has a page detailing a bunch of them, and a thread detailing more. Wikipedia is also a good source. Just search for the game on google with activate on steam.
thanks for the info folks

So uh, I forgot I had a bunch of coupons left over. PM me if you want any (not really looking to trade, they just need a new home if anyone has a use for them).

Does anyone else have lag issues with DE:HR? I can play games like Skyrim just fine, but I get stuttering with Deus Ex even when I go to low settings. I'm running a Quad Core system with 6 gigs of ram and an AMD hd4850 ... not the best graphics card but it seems like it should be more than enough to handle it. Is it just poorly optimized for the PC?
