Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I played up through the 3rd dungeon or so and it is pretty witty but the battles gets so repetitive so quick. They make the dungeons a maze so you have to go around usually multiple times to find all the treasure chests and it just becomes a chore to explore due to the random battles so I can't do more than one dungeon at a time.

For those still looking on deals on The Witcher 2:

Starting on this Thursday, we’ll have The Witcher 2 on an eye-popping 40% off discount for 48 hours AND we’re bundling in a free copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition with any purchase of The Witcher 2. We’ll be running this from 11.00 GMT on Thursday 8 December until 10.59 GMT on 10 December, and it’s the best bargain we’re going to have on the Witcher series this holiday season!

This is on GOG. They are also giving away free copies of Empire Earth Gold Edition starting on Monday.
http://tf2spreadsheet.blogspot.com/ and http://billsandbuds.com/ are both sites that give an estimate of an items value in refined metals, which are worth about $.90 to $1. They're the sites I've used most in getting rid of my items, good luck with the trading. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
Thanks for the info. I'll have to see what this stuff is worth, I just want to see if I can get Trine 2 out of it lol
Let's all speculate on what the hell a Steam "Coupon" is....
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=4210-YIPC-0275&l=english
I received a coupon last night. Like Kaotik, it's because I'm an owner of Railworks. The coupon arrived as I closed a game, the same way Steam pumps their game sale info. In the standard "pop-up box in the middle of the screen" format, daisy-chained to their other deals with a "next" button.

The coupon is good for 50% off any one Railworks DLC, or 50% off a copy of Railworks if I gift it to someone else. It's good until, um, Dec 12 I think.

So hey if any CAGers want a copy of Railworks for 50% off, I'd be happy to work with you. (current version is called Railworks 3: Train Simulator 2012)

Hey, can anyone comment on the quality of the DLC for King Arthur? I got the game free from ign prime, and I was wondering if the DLC is worth it, considering it's pretty cheap right now.

All but the last is worth it

I'll probably pass for on this for now despite it being in my price range... I don't want an excuse not to study for final exams :p I'm sure it will go on sale during the holiday sales again.

Definitely won't be found in an indie bundle.

I bit on the game/soundtrack combo for 12.49 about 3 weeks ago, haven't looked back since. Super cool game with good style and pacing, still haven't finished it though. The soundtrack is great in context, but I'll be honest, loses some of its charm without the games visuals backing it. Zia's song (Build That Wall) still sits on my favorites playlist though.

Really want to pick up Bastion but I have way too much to play right now. I think I'll pass and pick it up another time...

Now that I've gotten Bastion, I've gotten pretty much all the games I really wanted for a while. From Dust was a big one, but now I have it on 360 thanks to the sale this week. I may end up hardly buying anything during the Christmas sale.

(I hope.)

Been waiting for a $5 or less Bastion but too much to play right now and little time to do it. I'll wait for the holiday sale at least, it'll be $5 then too or even less.

Bastion's creative director said on twitter today that there would be some Bastion news soon. I thought they said they weren't interested in DLC so I'm not sure what it could be.

Just not thrilled with Bastion, it's like they're trying too hard but the game isn't good enough to warrant it.

If it drops lower then maybe but as of now it's too expensive

Man that narrator is awful

I don't think we played the same game; completely disagree. Narrator is awful? c'mon.

Wow, I find the narrator and then the music to be the best things about the game.

I agree. The narrator is horrible, at least Navi shut up most of Ocarina of Time.

I'd still like to get Bastion, but not really dying to play it. Might as well just wait for 75% off whenever that happens.

There's a new Portal-themed DLC for Defense Grid today for $4.99:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/18522/

Until December 14th, you can get Defense Grid and all its DLC (including this new one) 50% off, for $7.99:

I already have the Resurgence DLC from the summer camp activities. I was hoping to get the base game for $2.50 in the holiday sale, then pick up this new DLC for $5. For an extra $0.50, I think I'll get it now.

I was thinking the same thing, honestly. I picked up a lot of top-notch games over the last year from Steam alone, not to mention indie bundles. Most of the stuff on my Steam wish list are AAA titles which I'm going to wait for a rad deal or a GOTY release (Batman:AC, etc.). It's coming to a point of saturation on these deals where I either own the game or I've passed on it before.

...Wait, aren't there at least two more indie bundles coming out before year's end? FFUUNNKK, I'm screwed then :|

Yeah, my game purchases have really slowed to a crawl this year. I own 235 steam games (acquired since 2003 when I first got my steam account) and the last time I counted, I had only beaten about 40% of them. At this point, I have to really want the game or the deal has to be too good to pass up. During the Thanksgiving sale I only purchased a few games.

The Serious Sam collection
Orcs Must Die
Breath of Death VII & Cthulhu Saves the World

I haven't played Serious Sam yet but Orcs Must Die and Cthulu Saves the World have been quite fun. Cthulhu saves the world reminds me of a cross between Shining Force, Dragon Warrior, Zelda 1 and Phantasy Star IV. LoL. How can you go wrong with that?

Orcs Must Die is a blast in short bursts. It isn't a game I can play for hours on end but after I get done playing Battlefield 3 for an hour or two, Orcs Must Die makes for a great change of pace. I'll slaughter some Orcs for 30 minutes and then move on to something else. :)

Bastion for 66% off? That's my sweet spot! Was thinking I'd have to wait for the christmas sale for this one, but looks like Santa came early!

Plus it was only $1! Definitely can't go wrong with that.

Thanks for the heads up. I wish the DLC was on sale separately. I paid 2.5 for it through D2D. Can i gift the xtra copy of the base game?
These barebones XNA-to-PC ports are fairly irksome.
XNA is native on PC, what do you mean?

I'm surprised to see a lot of Bastion hate here. I'll admit, my love for the game is probably a bit unwarranted, (it just hits all the right spots for me,) but I didn't expect to see so many people who down right don't like it.

You can't please everyone and sometimes people are more inclined to post negative opinions than positive ones. I loved it and that's good enough for me. The game received almost universal acclaim from critics and players when it came out. I'm sure it'll pop up on a lot of best of lists in the next month.

I tried the Bastion demo again, I think I'll enjoy it a lot more if I use a controller. Using WASD to move is annoying when you have to walk diagonally most the time. I'll just wait until the next time it's on sale since I don't have my 360 controller to try it out now.

Going to try out Bastion. Thanks for the heads up on Defense Grid, Wet Ninja. I wouldn't have known anything about it. I've had a hard time getting into any other tower defense games but I love that one.

Yeah you cant gift the extra copy of Defense Grid. Id like to grab the DLC but Ill just wait I guess to see if its on the Xmas sale. Ive only paid 2.75 for the base game so dropping 10 for the the game and DLC wouldnt be bad.

Even tho I doubt this new DLC goes on sale so soon during the Xmas sale, its about the same price if I wait for the other map packs to go on sale + getting this new one for 4.99. Even if the Map pack were a quarter, its still 2 bucks cheaper than this bundle.

People who don't like story probably won't like the narrator talking all the time in bastion.

I liked the narrator (it's actually part of the function of how the story plays out too), the music, the gameplay, colorful art style. A really good action rpg. Only about 8 hours on first playthrough. An rpg I actually could spare enough time to finish. After doing the second playthrough i totaled about 12 hours overall on the game. Well worth 5$. Not like limbo, which i enjoyed, but for 3 hrs of play i would never pay more than the 2.50 i paid for it.
