Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
I don't know how much the "burned" by pre-order argument holds up, when their FAQ states that they will give you a refund if you're dissatisfied with your purchase. That's more generous than most digital sale policies.
Not only that but it was $4 to preorder for 6 games. I didn't own any of these and well I am sure I can get my $5 I spent out of Eets alone. I like to buy these bundles because I get like 4-6 games for like $5-$10 and well who knows, maybe a game I thought I might hate, I end up really enjoying. Actually that bonus Christmas album you get with preordering is worth the $5 I spent, that album fucking rocks.

20th?
Grabbed both force unleashed games and messed around with them a bit. For $5 a piece I'll get my moneys worth. Though the first game is a beast to download D:
That's what turned me off of it. It's like 30GB, right?

Anyone wanna buy extra gift copies of SW Force Unleashed 1 and 2, and sell them to me for $10 at the end of the week? ;)

No money right now, but I wanna get in on this sale.
Oh, wow I didn't notice the original TFU was also $5. How bad of a port is it?
Not having any graphic settings should tell you.

God awful. I bought the boxed copy for 99c and regret it. I mean, I guess if you were a Star Wars fanatic and didn't have any consoles, you could muscle through it, but crashing with no saves (Checkpoints!) and a total lack of options make this one so very, very passable.

Oh yeah, and why the hell is it 25 gigs?

According to a developer leak (which I see no reason to doubt), the Steam Holiday Sale will start the 19th.
I've got an extra Eets key for the first one who answers these three questions correctly.

1.Who said this famous quote (famous in my mind anyway)? "Keep your damn filthy bones outta my mouth"

2.Where do they work?

3. In what department?

If you don't have to google the answer we are probably best friends.
I would never have to google this. :)

1. Ash aka Mr. Bruce Campbell in the amazing movie Army of Darkness.

2. Speaking to the primitive screw heads 'That's right. Shop smart. Shop S-Mart. You got that?'

I believe if my memory serves me correctly in the movie S-mart is in Grand Rapids, MI.

3. 'Lady I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to leave the store.'
'Who the hell are you?'
'The names Ash *cocks rifle* Housewares.'

I bought the bundle so no need for the key.

Alright back to Steam sales. I beat the Force Unleashed on :ps3: the best part was probably the story line. As other people mentioned it's probably worth it just for the cut scenes alone if you're Star Wars fan. However, due to it being a horrible port I would recommend getting it on consoles if you have one.

Uncompressed audio, I think?

I'll go $2 PayPal if anyone doesn't want their "The Blackwell Trilogy: Remastered" from their purchase of the Indie Royale Bundle. ;) PM me.
Uncompressed audio, I think?
If I remember correctly they did some really inefficient things with the language files, forcing you to download some dozen languages in uncompressed audio, and possibly having separate cutscene files for every language?

A really embarrassingly bad port.

Asking people Army of Darkness trivia on the internet? Seriously? That's like asking the folks in Gamestop if they've heard of the company Nintendo.

Anyway, just making a recommendation here. Rochard. Good game. It's basically somewhere between Shadow Complex and Hydrophobia, only where Hydrophobia was almost entirely the mediocre tending toward bad parts of a game, Rochard so far has been almost entirely the pleasant but not entirely memorable parts of a game. It's a side-scrolling, 3D platformer with Shadow Complex's unimpressive shoot or be shot combat but Half-Life 2's gravity gun and no shortage of gimmicks to work toward your navigation of the levels. As cartoony as it looks, the story is much more Hydrophobia than TF2 but nothing special. It's just a charming, pleasant little game.

Plus, Poets of the Fall did music for it.

And Rochard himself is voiced by John St. John, Duke Nukem himself, donning a good ol' boy accent and saying things like "Git 'er done." and "Bang it to fit, paint it to match.". Rochard's understated style where his whole character is practically defined by his work ethic is also cute, if only because the game doesn't get cute with him. Plays it straight and as a result Rochard has a kinda unique sort of cool about him.

Short-ish, a PS3 arcade port. Good with a 360 controller. I recommend catching this in the inevitable Steam sale.

Amazes me how they didn't even bother to fix it... To put that up on sale is even worse than Dead Island's first release...

At least Dead Island's first release was arguably a mistake. It's good to know to not buy The Force Unleashed for future reference.

I quite enjoyed Rochard as well played it on psn, shipwreck did a review if you want to look at that. Debated on not adding dino d-day to steam but eh screw it whats one more game I'm never going to play on the list.

Looking through the NeoGAF thread, it looks like the Steam registry entries for the Humble Indie Bundle 4 have been posted:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=33420554&postcount=12275

Buckle your seatbelts, because if it's true, then this is going to be a HUGE bundle:
[hiddenlist]
Super Meat Boy
Shank
Bit.Trip Runner
Jamestown
NightSky

Beat the average and get:
Cave Story+
Gratuitous Space Battles
[/hiddenlist]

On an unrelated note, according to posts in the same thread it looks like there are also now Steam registry entries referencing Alan Wake and Age of Empires III.

I already paid for Cave Story+ when it was released on Steam largely because I wanted to support them. I have also got Bit.Trip as well and NightSky.

Even having those three great games, this bundle STILL would be excellent. I can't wait.

I wouldn't be shocked if a Gamestop employee never heard of Nintendo......and asking anyone any trivia on the internet is easy. I was just looking to give away the key...thanks for criticizing it though.

I didn't know Army of Darkness, but I play happy-fairyland rainbow sprinkles kind of games. :D

I thought it was a great giveaway and very considerate. You rock, drabelincoln.

Only one I'm interested in is Cave Story+. If you get in early you get those beat the average games complimentary, right? Or do you have to donate again?

Holy hell. That would easily be the best bundle put out so far by any of the bundlers. Beat the average? I'm going double, at least.

And you tell me Alan Wake is coming to PC? You're Santa Claus, aren't you?

Sigh. You guys say this after I buy the darn game...

It doesn't help that I've been sick and haven't been able to check in here...

It'll be indeed a great bundle. I already own everything but Jamestown, Cave Story+ and Gratuitious Space Battles, but I'd pay above the average just to have them, even though I don't care for Battles.

Holy crap, that's some bundle. Already own Super Meat Boy, Nightsky & Gratuitous Space Battles, but there's still a lot there to make this a must buy. Not to mention the distinct possibility that they'll be adding a game or two as the bundle goes on.

And to think, I actually paid $3 for the current IndieRoyale bundle yesterday. A bundle that featured Dino D-day as one of it's games. If that crap was worth $3 to me, how can I not jump on-board this coming bundle?

Incomparable. Indie Royale will never be on the same level as Humble Bundle.

Well, Shank by itself would make it worth it for me. I actually haven't managed to buy any of those games, despite the offers the past year or so.
Incomparable. Indie Royale will never be on the same level as Humble Bundle.
Actually, they're quite comparable.

Incomparable would be if I tried to compare Humble Bundle to a bowl of tomato soup, or one of Jupiter's moons. Comparing one bundle to another is pretty natural.

Though I do agree that Indie Royale isn't (and never will be) on the same level as HB. That was kinda my point.

That does seem like a nice bundle. Too bad I own all the games in it except for Shank, which I do want. If nothing else, I'll probably get it for that and consider the other keys to be Christmas gifts.

Jamestown is in that bundle and it's a terrific shmup.

That bundle seems too good to be true, especially since I don't have any of those (although I've almost bought Jamestown every time it's on sale). Another reason for me to hold off on indie gaems when they go on sale.
Really wish Indie Royale would step up their game, Humble Bundle 4 pretty much blew away the competition.
Why are you speaking about it in the past tense? We don't even know if this thing exists yet.

My guess is it probably doesn't. That list of games sounds like an Amazon goldbox wishlist on this forum.

Not interested in Jamestown, Gratuitous Space Battles or Shank. In fact I traded away a code for that last one rather than redeem it. I already have Cave Story+, SMB, and Nightsky. I have had my eye on Bit.Trip Runner though and I love supporting the charities, so of course I'll buy that bundle.

The people at GAF who look through the Steam registry have correctly identified bundles before. Half of Team Meat, EdMund McMillen, always tweets a lot about bundles and put his very well received game, The Binding of Isaac, in one not very long after it was released. NightSky has been in another bundle. Klei, the Shank people, have another game in a bundle right now. Cave Story+ is an update to a freeware title and they've given out a lot of codes for it. I've thought the game was destined for a bundle since release.

If it's fake, it's at least plausible.

Because it's most likely legit. I don't see a reason why it'd be in the Steam registry if it wasn't, unless someone could explain one to me. Also, the last time something like this happened (I think it was the Voxatron bundle), it ended up being 100% real. The chances are pretty low that this is fake.

EDIT: Also.. (Madrugador from NGAF posted these)

Yeah but now that the info's been leaked, they're gonna split each of those titles up into a separate bundle, attached to some crap, and we'll hafta buy all of them. /scrooge
Isn't that the name of another indy bundle game?
No, it's obviously a part of Killing Floor. So most of us are probably screwed.
