CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

For what it's worth and I admit I'm a bit biased because I love Dungeon Defenders I would say the following DLC pieces are worth it and in some cases really neccessary.

All 4 of the Eternia Shards Packs- These are the last 4 maps of the main storyline and where you get the best loot endgame.

New Heroes DLC- These are gender swaps of the 4 original chars. The way DD works, males have more HP and do more dmg but move slower so they're generally used as DPS chars and females move faster so they're generally used to build.

Barbarian- Good DPS and a lot of fun to play.

Series EV- Has a tower that is used to boost all of your other towers which is really neccessary for end game and has the best walls.

Summoner- Summons minions which use a seperate unit cap than the rest of the towers so having a summoner makes things a lot easier.

I would also say that Karathiki, City in the Cliffs and Talay are all worth it but not neccessary.

How come every graphic setting in FarCray 2 has an Ultra High option except "post". I want ultra realistic fence post damn it!......that is what that means, right?

I think I'm finally going to pull the trigger on Fallout 3 and New Vegas but I still can't decide on Driver and Deus Ex :whistle2:k

It's crazy how much a couple dollar difference makes in a sale like this. A couple dollars is literally another game at some times. I know, for me, I have no problem passing on semi-recent games for $7.49, but when they go to $4.99, I have a hard time passing them up. The same can be said for cheaper games that drop to $3.74. That price and I have to think, but $2.49 is almost an instant purchase.
Port Royal 2 for $2
http://store.steampowered.com/app/12470/

Port Royal 3 for $20, or $10.20 if you go in on a 4-pack. Speaking of which if you had such an interest, PM me and I'll host if we can fill all 4 slots.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/205610/
Hmm, $10 is not bad. Are there any decent reviews on it? I kind of want to bite but then realistically I own older Port Royale games on Steam and GOG that I really haven't played too much of.

Is this one really supposed to be much of a difference over PR 2?
For NV, there will be "portals" in the base game. For OWB, it's an old movie theater you come across in the wasteland. In the case of that pack, you can only go back to the base game once you've completed the DLC story.
Thanks. Sounds like DLC is avoidable until I'm ready use it which is what I wanted.

Of course not, n00b.

It's for sign posts. God, learn how games work already!

Edit: Also, final couple of hours for my CAG Steam groups SR3: Maximum Pleasure Pack DLC give-away. I don't know how to make the pretty banner graphic and it's been too long of a day to learn now so...

Would highly recommend Deus Ex (Both HR and original, IW is a bit more "meh"). Speaking of which, is it worth getting the DLC for Deus Ex:HR? Already beat the game, but might replay for DLC if it is good. Although... I already bought 20 something games in the sale and my backlog continues to grow...

Any chance of X-com collection going on sale past 50%? Missed out on the Amazon sale a few days ago. Would love to have it easily accessible on steam.

So Tales of Monkey Island is the new flash deal (it's the Telltale game). Now when Secret of Monkey Island (the Lucasarts adventure game) was a flash, both Secret and Tales were on sale. Now it's just Tales.
I kinda want to finally get Plants vs Zombies......

Is it really the best TD game?
I love it, personally. Couldn't recommend it enough, got like 20 hrs on it. As far as "the best", well dunno, but it is definitely my favorite.

People either love it or hate it, with little in between. I don't have any Port Royal Games, so I'm willing to try it for $10. As far as if it's worth it for players of Port Royal 2:

More castle defense than tower defense, if there is a distinction. It's a really fun game with a lot of personality, but I think Defense Grid is my favorite Tower Defense game. I like the wide variety of strategies involved in controlling the enemy pathways. Kingdom Rush HD on the ipad is a close second for me.

I really hope they put Dead Rising 2 OTR on sale again, I put it in my cart then forgot and missed during the flash deal earlier in the week. Hopefully Dead Rising 2 goes on sale also.
Finally got the Spec Ops giveaway set up like it needed to be! 191 Copies and runs through Sunday. Everyone enter!
I hope you do not manually have to send out those keys to 191 people one by one.

So all the talk that Motoki has been doing about Coconut Queen has actually piqued an interest in some of the casual games on Steam. If Kingdoms Of Amular doesn't go on sale, I'm gonna be left with a good chunk of money left over in my budget. I'm actually thinking that I might pick up a few casual games while they're on sale. Can any of you think of any publishers of casual games besides these four?

iWin - Makers of the famous Coconut Queen.
Popcap Games - I already bought the compleat pack a few days ago. So I'm all set with these guys.
MumboJumbo - I'm considering this pack as well.
Big Fish Games - These ones never go on sale at all. So I'll almost certainly be passing on these.
I'm surprised at the lack of 90% off discounts. Weren't there more during the Winter sale?
There are big discounts in the packs and maybe Railworks 3 which depends so heavily on DLC, but I don't think the discounts were necessarily any lower than they were during Winter.

It's been really tough to gauge though because while some deals appear to be repeats, they've snuck in a few better deals (packs or franchise) in layers under the main deal. You just had to hunt for them - and they weren't always repeated.

Not to mention I've seen at least one Flash Deal that was not advertised on the main page (Skyrim ran 50% off while other deals were advertised).
Does Red Orchestra 2 have any single-player? I remember reading somewhere that the bots and so on were really bad. Any recommendation on that game?
Do not buy Red Orchestra 2 for singleplayer!! It isn't pretty. If that type of mulitiplayer is your thing, however, it's pretty fun. Most will argue that the first was better in some ways.

I completely agree with this. I bought the vanilla game back around the time it came out and there was already a bit of DLC. I found myself looking for more content rather quickly. Pick up some essentials while it's on sale!!

There is a bit of "costume" DLC and yes the holiday DLC was free during the respective calendar period (hoping it will be again!). I'd say a new player should at least get Eternia Shards and New Heroes. The other builds are more advanced and you could probably pick them up in the future right around the time you're leveling up and getting used to the gameplay.
Is {Plants vs Zombies} really the best TD game?
It isn't traditional TD. It's much more linear but it has great mechanics, terrific pacing, tons of content, and (as stated below) phenomenal personality. It's a game almost everyone would enjoy.
It's a really fun game with a lot of personality, but I think Defense Grid is my favorite Tower Defense game.
Agreed. Defense Grid is amazing.

Should of grabbed Fable 3 collection while I had the chance. Doubt it will go to 75% off again. Hopefully it will be even cheaper in the Winter sale.

I'm confused. What's the difference between this Monkey Island that's on sale and the one that was on sale a few days ago (that I bought)?

Anyone know how this version differs from the iOS one?

Assuming they'll have a recap sale on the last day (which would be lame this year, considering a lot has been recycled for dailies, flash and community deals), tomorrow would be the final day. From the 9 available slots, one is for the Indie Bundle. What else can we expect?

I believe Splinter Cell will be a daily, since it's a perennial favorite for daily deals and has yet to appear there, even though it's a community deal.

The problem with the steam group is that people who aren't forum members are getting in because they see giveaways at steamgifts and then inviting other people who aren't on the forums.
I hope you do not manually have to send out those keys to 191 people one by one.
Thank goodness no! The guys at Steamgifts contacted me and automated it all for me :)
The problem with the steam group is that people who aren't forum members are getting in because they see giveaways at steamgifts and then inviting other people who aren't on the forums.
Lame really? That is crappy. We should somehow do a purge of the group!

And I believe you can set users with the ability to invite others. I'd be happy to. When people come into the chat and ask for an invite I check to see if they're CAGs. Of course before that even happens someone else, even a non-CAG, has invited them.

I took a quick look at it until I saw this video and now I won't touch the game with a ten foot pole

I think the minigames differ. And I'm not sure if every mini game is in the iOS version. And yes, the mini games are awesome.

You can always specify in the description that if the winner isn't a CAG, you will request to reroll the winner.

If you have the ability to limit who can invite to a certain amount of people go for it.

That way they would have to join the forum and post in the steam invite thread to get an invite.

Also generally speaking, the bigger games will appear 3 times: Flash, Maybe vote, and Daily, so if you're hoping for x or y game to appear again, check the awesome list in the OP and see if there's a chance for your wish to come true. Mine now is DR:OTR and Batman Franchise.

Fable III gets a ton of hate simply because it's not up to par in the franchise. Fable 1 and 2 were great, while Fable III is struggling to make it into the 'good' category. It's fun, but its not without flaws, just like any other game. I'd say it's worth at least one playthrough, especially if you at least somewhat enjoyed the first two games. Just don't go in expecting something better than those.

I would think you'd at least have to be a forum member to belong to the Steam group. After all, it's a CAG group and if you aren't participating in the community then what makes you a CAG? :whistle2:s

Is there a way to make it so only admins of the group can invite? That'd help cut down on the non-cag forum goers from getting in. At least make them sign up here so the site gets more members

I thought only the handful of admins could invite.

I finally got around to checking the replacement flash deal for Limbo and it turns out to be Monkey Island. I was gonna make a post bitching about it, but then I decided to go back and see if there's been any comments on the deal here first. Good thing I did, because I didn't realize that it was a different game than the last time. I couldn't remember for sure which one was officially the flash deal. All I know is I bought them both the last time.

I wonder why they're not both on sale again? Could it be that the discount of Tales last time was a mistake? Kinda like they accidentally discounted the Stalker series 75% for a few hours on day one of the sale. That turned out to be a tip off of a future sale. Maybe Tales wasn't supposed to go on sale until today.
Anyone played Capsized???? looks pretty good from trailer i seen.
I don't know if it IS a flash game but it feels like one. It looks kinda good though and I've played it for a bit but ultimately got bored and never finished it.
