Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Excited about that Humble Bundle for Android. My touchpad needs more games! I just hope I don't already own all the games in it. What a first world problem to have :p
OK, I know these are not on Steam, but for the love of all that is right in the world, someone please explain to me why these things are needed.
I think the "real" answer is that digital distribution for video game enthusiasts is a secondary market. There are very niche markets for these games: they're cheap to produce, no one's looking for cutting-edge graphics, and they can sit on the shelf at a department or office supply store until the target customer happens by. Then they're scooped up as gifts for people in the tow-truck industry, or to throw onto the lumber yard's office computer for a lark, or by bungee-jumping enthusiasts, or to show Timmy what dad's job driving a big-rig is like. Blue-collar casual gaming is pretty popular, and a lot of them are sold to people who don't typically game.
they're cheap to produce
Especially since once you have the game engine down for a tow truck simulator, adapting it to a bulldozer simulator or tractor simulator or sod cutter simulator is pretty easy.
Kinda underwhelmed by todays social update - Groups. Hoping for something more exciting tomorrow.
I actually like it. I hadn't really messed with the groups until very recently but now that I have I can see how limited they are and how much work they need.

Even simple things like having separate discussion threads that aren't annoucements that spam everyone up are really needed.

Also:

Each group can now proudly list their favorite games for others to find.

Finally we can put the Coconut Queen back up on the group page where she belongs.

Oh sure, I don't think anyone would dispute that the groups (among other things) needs work. But it just seems like something they could update without much fanfare - I dont' think it requires an announcement or anything. I don't know. Maybe I'm just cranky today.

Oh I agree all this stuff so far is like DUH why the hell didn't you have this in the first place, but I guess for them it's a big deal.

Agreed. These are nice small improvements to the group pages, particularly discussion threads. There's still a fair number of things they could add/fix to group pages, but this is a start. More of this, less of game hubs, please

Cladun didn't impress me on PSP, especially on a sysyem that has been in its waning years filled with almost nothing but kitschy JRPGs
^_^ A much shorter (10 episode) one that I really enjoyed was Tempest . It takes place at the very end of the Edo period (ends just after the Meiji Restoration). It differs in that it takes place in Ryukyu (Okinawa) Kingdom, which struggled to assert independence over it's own affairs as it had dual subordination to both the Qing Dynasty and Japan.

A 7-episode series following a swordsman in the Edo period comes to mind, but the name escapes me.
Another good recommendation! I'll go ahead and add that to the list to track as well. I swear being a stay at home parent I devour media like some kind of digital locust. :bouncy:

This reminds of those work place, "competition" type things you see office centers do, where they try and make some fancy event to try and push some new thing or sale numbers. I imagine the Steam office filled with tons of balloons and poorly made banners and bar charts. blowing a horn everytime they make a announcement.

Hot shots golf was all I ended up playing on the PSP when I had one
Not going to get myself too excited about the latest Humble Android bundle. Last one turned out to be wholly underwhelming after I played the games.
^ This.

I'm really not a big fan of the Android bundles. Seems like they don't usually pick very good games or if they do it's something I already have.

Because there's NOTHING GOOD on Android.

Speaking of which, Gamebook Adventures 1: An Assassin in Orlandes hit Android recently AND PC on Desura, which makes it a perfect possible inclusion for this bundle. GA1 ALONE would make the bundle worth it if you like CYOA books. I absolutely recommend this if it is a theoretical choice offered.

Speaking of Desura, for you CAGs still on the fence, confirmed 2012 game of the year Banzai Pecan dropped to $9. Yes, that's the one with the girl battling the "Sexilicious Seven" in case you missed it.

EDIT: Oddly enough BP runs like shit in molasses on my computer, my computer which can handle MP3 and Sleeping Dogs pretty soundly (Though not overwhelmingly so). Runs smooth as butter on my laptop and I have no clue why.

http://www.desura.com/games/banzai-pecan-last-hope-for-the-young-century

Also available on Indievania and Indie City, two services which sound awful because they have indie in the name.

For what it's worth, I actually give this one a serious recommendation. There's a demo for it so you can see if you like it. As a beat-em-up, it hits all the things I want to see, especially a cast of entirely evil demon women, satisfying hits etc, as well as a God Hand sway dodge though without anything approaching the tightness of God Hand's sway and counter. Note that I love beat-em-ups, especially with girls so yeaaaah I am no unbiased source.
Because there's NOTHING GOOD on Android.
Too strong of a statement imo. Admittedly the HIB Android releases haven't hit that wow factor. But there are other releases that have their fanbase, Final Fantasy 1, Final Fantasy III (based on the NDS remake). I am personally looking forward to the upcoming port of The Bard's Tale (2004 version) to Android.
Anybody else having Steam issues right now? All my friends went offline suddenly and have been supposedly offline for hours.
Happens occasionally. I'm back "online" now. If it's not back for you, go to your friends list and set your status to "online" as that can sometimes fix if it doesn't do it automatically.
Thanks for the video, know now to pass on it. Multiplayer focused tower defense seems like a really weird niche. I guess main thing will be how active the game is and how easy it is to find a game in it.
I was concerned about that as well. I'm more of a single player/co-op player. I did hear there's some sort of singleplayer mode but it sounds more like a gametype than full SP support. I'm going to have to look into it more before I buy. But damn does it ever look fun.
Anybody else having Steam issues right now? All my friends went offline suddenly and have been supposedly offline for hours.
That happens to me sometimes too. Usually I restart Steam and find I have a ton of pop-up Steam ads awaiting (today there were 9). It's like it chokes Steam or something....

Would love, love, love a It Came From the Desert HD remake. :)
And the Rocket one...Man, Cinemaware was *awesome*.
A couple of kickstarters that look interesting (probably non-Steam):

Wings. I'm probably going to toss a few bucks toward this one myself. I can remember wasting many hours of my youth playing this on my Amiga 1000. Cinemaware made some great games for that platform, generally with some pretty ugly PC ports (EGA probably). If this is successful, I hope that an HD remake of It Came From The Desert is next.

Tales of Fallen London. This looks like a mashup of collectible card games, text adventures, and RPGs. It's already successful and on for 19 more days, so take a look if it sounds vaguely intriguing. . . . (I should add for the Coconut-minded among us that the $15 tier title is "Succulent Backer.")
iPad has had that for quite a while now.

You know what Android DOES have quite a few of? Hacks, Viruses, Keyloggers, and the like.

Android is AWESOME. /s

Yeah well I paid $149 for mine vs $600 for one of those items from the Church of Jobs so I think I'll manage. Somehow I don't have any hacks, viruses or keyloggers that apparently every Android user gets in spite of downloading a shit ton of stuff.

/s

And after having said that, I will quote what was said yesterday CAN WE NOT?

Otherwise I'm going to have to start talking about fetishes for handicapped Asian women to deflect the conversation. :p

I don't know what ELSE to talk about though... I'm not spending money on DS because I hear NOTHING good about it (that wasn't better on a console).

I will ask... how can I find if someone would have copies of HL/HL2 for Steam they'd be willing to sell or trade? I know I've seen the half-life complete stuff on sale but I really don't remember it on the Summer Sale but I've been debating finally trying the series.

The group forums thing looks nice; better than trying to hold a conversation via comments. The rest didn't move me much either way.

I know. I don't have one of them there iThingies. I do have a Nook Color w/CM7 and a Nexus 7 on pre-order (still waiting -- it was a good deal). Seven inch tablets fit in all my purses (this is a big big plus). That and I'd always choose my MacBook Air over a 10 incher.

Honestly I've never had a problem with malware on Android, but I don't go installing software like Angry Birdzzz all willy nilly (though I have ~100 apps). I tend to use it for web, reference materials, videos, and the occasional game.

But that's the thing. Those are all ports, and I don't even care for JRPGs to begin with. Bard's Tale was raucously entertaining but it was a middling hack and slash that would be awful on virtual sticks.

I mean, on Ios, if we're counting really good games, that number is quite small. Android is almost by definition going to have a much smaller number.

Also, with the new Steam features stuff and the TF2 MvM coop going live soon, I wouldn't be surprised if there's even more downtime imminent.

I agree, but so far very few developers are willing to commit medium/significant resources to phone/tablet game, and if they are hitting any platforms makes good business sense. That's why I like ports, games that had been given a nice level of development resources. Emulators count in that too (though are less point-and-drool in setup).

I swear one page of posts and you guys just can't let it go :booty:

It is like this is your first time witnessing a bored Sociology undergrad =p

From now on I am just going to talk about Magicka, Magicka as the weekend sale of course :hot:

So how about the 1C bundle from Amazon that is coming soon for $14.99 (almost identical to the Gamersgate Bundle, but they will have an option for steam keys!

Brace yourself, you may be in for a bit of a shock. Welcome to 2012. The Olympics are over. Steam is being challenged in sales by a handful of upstarts in the Digital Download market. The apocalypse hasn't happened (yet).

In other news forum goers on CAG have discovered 2010 man.

Sad thing is I paid like 38ish during the sale just for kings bounty and the death to spies bundles with necrovision and cryostatis :wall: This is why buying a ton of games ahead of time is a bad idea.
It's yummy. (Even though I own more than a handful of them.)

I'll have to be honest, I'm tempted to double dip at that price. I paid $21 for the Gamersgate bundle. $1.27 for Indie Gala 7. $14.99 more would still put me under $40 for the bundle.

>,< I know what you mean. It made me regret my indiegala purchase (Death to Spies & Big Rig). I don't feel as bad about picking up King's Bounty Platinum for $5 on Amazon a few months back. And a couple things from Paradox/Pint-sized Paradox pack (Amazon).

On the bright side, check the bottom of that post Tony is saying individual steam keys.

Bought on gamersgate, still haven't touched any of the games. I will still buy a copy or two of this, one for me, one for gifting purposes.

You hear that? it is like a million steam gifts users all cried out as if their contributor level exploded :hot:

It's beautiful isn't it.

Full Disclosure: I'm totally with giving away/trading unwanted keys. Steamgifts has grown into something else. I doubt I'll ever register.

@CheapLikeAFox
Oh, and I'm certain I'll double dip, if for no other reason for some of those racing games I could never bring myself to buy separately.

Kind of makes the Indie Gala 7 a waste of money. You know, the whole $2 or less that most of us paid for it. :p

There's still King of the Road on Gamersgate. ;)

Great deal although I think I pretty much got most of the 1C stuff I wanted from the Gala. Space Rangers 2 is getting a remake with additional content soon so I'm putting that off. Maybe I'd want the Star Wolf sequels but I heard those are pretty bad.
They announced scheduled downtime earlier today.
Ah, thanks. I probably read that it would be down and just let it slip my mind. They must be getting the servers ready for the summer sale. Anyone know when that kicks off?
