Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Here's a question - does the Steam version of Witcher 2 give a key that you can activate on GOG?
Obviously, you can activate Witcher 2 PC Retail over GOG - so you can get the extra goodies.

SIDE NOTE:
I already own Witcher 2 from GOG directly.
Great game.
Quick Google search shows that you can go into your registry to find the CD-Key for your Steam copy of Witcher 2.

Also I think $7.49 will be the cheapest since 75% is the magic number (unless they drop the MSRP to $20).
Remember when Steam didn't have daily deals? Back like 2 years ago, when we all had money and our sanity?

Ahh... Those were the days.
I can stop buying games anytime I want!
The proper form is a game that NEVER goes on sale, but is on sale for 50% right now, and will promptly be 75% off or more during the daily deal tomorrow.
I have been eyeing Emerald City Confidential by Wadjet Eye (makers of Blackwell Deception, Gemini Rue, Resonance etc.).

It is 60% off @ $3.99 now. It wasn't on sale at all during the summer sale. It hasn't been 75% off since 2010 and yet with my track record with these things...

I also kind of want the Valusoft Simulation Gaming pack even though it's only 50% off because it contains that gem of a game Prison Tycoon 4: Supermax which has now been removed from Steam's store as a separate game outside of that bundle which only appears on big holiday sales.
i feel like i should get legend of grimrock

any opinions?
For $3.74, absolutely. I bought it full price and love it. Although I am stuck... lol.
Am I missing something about Silverfall? People keep mentioning it but the reviews are pretty bad.
They reviewed original Silverfall version, not the version w/ the expansion. That version was buggy, had technical issues, performance issues, poor UI, not-so-good camera, and other things that kept it from reaching its true potential. That's why it got hella-slammed, when the vanilla game was released.

The stand-alone expansion Earth Awakening pretty much fixed ALL of those above said issues - and overhauled the game completely. Earth Awakening was more than new content and new campaign - it also doubled as a major overhaul PATCH. It wasn't released at retail by Atari in the USA. Hence why Earth Awakening wasn't reviewed pretty much by anybody here in the States.

You had to either get the UK Import (from places like Gogamer - which is what I did) or get it digitally.

Plus, Monte Cristo Games Studios is now defunct.

here we go again

So do you get just the standalone XPAC or both?
The Witcher 2 is better than the first in just about every way.
In most ways, ABSOLUTELY...

A few VERY minor complaints of mine about Witcher 2 include:
Chapter 3 feels extremely rushed compared to the rest of the game (well, at least before EE patch - ain't played it since EE patch);
we hear a lot about Yennefer, yet we never meet her - so it feels like a major set-up for Witcher 2 expansions and/or Witcher 3;
AND Shani isn't even in Witcher 2.

I think I'm done, unless some sort of unexpected miracle happens with a daily deal.

So, Haul this Year!

Bioshock 1 and 2 (Through the amazon deal) - 4.99
Silverfall + Expansion - 3.74
Kotor 2 - 2.49
Cargo Commander - 2.49
Civ 5: Gods and Kings - 7.49 (through Amazon)
Fallout 3: GOTY - 4.99
Rage - 4.99
XCOM Enemy Unknown - 33.49
XCOM DLC - 3.34
Orcs Must Die 2 Complete - 6.24
Home - 1.01
Witcher 2 - 7.49
Tropico DLC - 1.98

Total = 84.73.

Only real regret is XCOM when it would've been a few dollars cheaper, but I am going to be playing it starting tomorrow when my new computer is up and running, so I don't really mind.

Not too bad, I think.
I can stop buying games anytime I want!
I can't. This month alone, I bought around 25 games on the PC. I have a problem. ...first step of rehab is admitting your problem. Don't be in denial. Lol :)
Hmmmm....maybe Vampire Bloodlines, yes? ;)
Nah, they've come around to the seasonal $5 sale side of things. It used to be rare.
I think the biggest culprits are Capcom now. So tomorrow 75% off DMC4.
So do you get just the standalone XPAC or both?
I'd recommend players buy Silverfall: Complete Edition [contains both Silverfall (original) + Silverfall: Earth Awakening (stand-alone expansion)].
Install them together into the same folder.
IMHO - it's the BEST way to enjoy both games.
Earth Awakening continues the story from where the ending of Silverfall (original campaign) leaves off, so you're best off playing Silverfall (original campaign) w/ EA installed - just for all the technical improvements.

I played Silverfall (original) BEFORE the expansion even came out; and have played it afterwards when Earth Awakening came out - I bought both imports years ago cheap from Gogamer.
With Earth Awakening installed, the original game's EXTREMELY IMPROVED - it's like a difference of night and day here. All the technical issues are pretty much GONE.
I never tried this game on Win 7, so I can't speak on that. But, on Win XP - yeah, it ran tons better w/ Earth Awakening installed.

DO NOT buy Silverfall original ALONE. Don't do it - you'll be missing out on the overhaul EA gives it, since the original game never got an overhaul patch.
Earth Awakening IS the overhaul patch....and also contains new content and a new campaign.

The store page says "through November 26th" so draw your own conclusion, I suppose.
Anyone?
Modern times is worth it. The rest are situational but they're dirt cheap at the moment aren't they? So why not?

Really glad to hear that, since I just bought the game last night knowing it was a technical nightmare.

Well I'm $3.75 over budget now... thanks to you, MysterD.

But I'll give it a shot. After XCOM

EDIT: ALL THOSE GB!!!!1!! crap... watch out for that bomb!

MysterD is a one man Silverfall selling machine. He even got me to buy it. And I had never even heard of the game a week ago.

I hope there's an option to teach your inmates how to do the Thriller dance. And seriously, I'm glad PC gaming has evolved to the point where we get zombie DLC for train simulators, just for the lulz. It used to be so uppity and elitist back in the 90's...

so legend of grimrock looks pretty amazing

when does the winter sale usually run?

wondering how long i will need to wait if i don't buy torchlight 2 now
so legend of grimrock looks pretty amazing

December 20th it starts, it last for 14 days.

If you like loot-heavy ARPG's (like Dungeon Siege 2 + Broken World; Diablo 1 + 2);
Steampunk setting;
want a few AI followers (you don't really control these guys much at all, though);
and even some quests give you some decisions that matter on the quest and game's outcome AND your skill tree's skills (whether you lean towards Technology or Nature)...

...Silverfall: Complete is your ticket.

Granted, I ain't tried it on Win 7 64-bit, I dug it back on my older Win XP 32-bit PC.
I would guess if there's Win 7 issues w/ it, like most older games, you might want to try the common Win 7 fixes (i.e. run the game in compatibility mode for older Win OS's it worked on like say Win XP SP3; check the box to disable visual themes and disable desktop composition; and run the game as an Admin.)
December 20th it starts, it last for 14 days.
does it have similar schedule to this autumn sale?
as in giving you at least 12 hours to get each deal.

So the final damage looks like:

The Witcher 2 - $7.49
E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy - $2.49
Penny Arcade Combo Pack - $2.99
The Witcher: Enhanced Edition - $2.49
Star Wars: KOTOR - $2.49
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - $2.49

Not bad about what I hoped/expected for this sale

Honestly, nobody can say for sure. There once was a pretty set pattern of how they approached the big sales. But with each big sale over the past year, they've tweaked things slightly.
Thanks for Silverfall. I guess my cat can go hungry until payday.
or you can just eat the cat....and not have to buy yourself food and buy more games

Yeah, it's good from the few hours I did play, a bit ago...
...and I do need to get back to it, eventually.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - $2.49

Not bad about what I hoped/expected for this sale
And now I am buying the Penny Arcade Combo pack... thought it was just going to be KOTOR 1+2 for me until Winter.

My damage:

The Bard's Tale - $2.49
The Basement Collection - $1.99
Home - $1.01
Silverfall Complete - $3.74 (I gifted this off in exchange for another game)
The Witcher: Enhanced Edition - $2.49
Zeno Clash - $0.99

Final tally: $12.71

Missed out on To The Moon being 76%/66% off and missed out on KOTOR 1&2 :(

Still waiting on Jade Empire, Half-Life Complete, and The Oddboxx to drop in price. In the case of Half-Life Complete I'm waiting for at least 75% off(currently 50% off).

Yeah I've had them in my wishlist for a while and I just happened to check it to see what was on sale. Glad I did.
Cheapest Steam sale for me ever. KOTOR II at $2.50 was literally all I spent. I wanted CS:GO, Orcs Must Die 2, and Torchlight II, but I can hold out at least until the Winter sale.
same here I only spent $3.75 on Intrusion 2, that's the lowest amount I have spent during these summer/holiday sales, there were a few other games I wanted but I already blew my budget on console games during black friday.... oh well I can always grab Torchlight II and FTL during the holiday sale next month
Wow, that's trippy.
I wasn't expecting it to come out as good as it did.
Oh you guys. :imwithst:
Welcome back! Oh and the :imwithst: wasn't for you it's just my sig. :D
That's an amazing avatar. I wish someone would make something like that for me ;)
Are you really sure about that!?

:applause::applause::applause: You did it! You got Motoki to post again! :whee:
I thought we'd never get Motoki back.

So far all I've gotten are: Mark of the Ninja, The Walking Dead, and Dead Island.

Not too many things interested me this time around. I did think about Saints Row the Third but I think that can wait until I make a bigger dent in my backlog. Same thing for CS:GO, Arkham City, and Torchlight 2. I'm also wanting to play Dishonored since my friend has been raving about it, but I don't $30 want to play it.

Thinking about Zeno Clash for 99 cents though. For a buck, why the hell not?

I bet everyone already has Toki Tori, but if you don't... 50 cents is NUTS for the amount of fun I had with that game. I have a thing for cute puzzlers :p Definitely recommend.
So, besides Jade Empire - what's the rare game that NEVER goes on sale, but will go on sale tomorrow and TROLL everyone?
Hmmmmm....
;)
Well, it's going to be something that was just on sale for what was thought to be a great price. I'm going with The Witcher 2... $4.99 maybe?
