Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Glad to see a bunch of us got KOTOR II. :)

Suckered in by:

KOTOR II $2.49
Universe Sandbox $2.49
Batman AC: HQR and NW DLC $4.23
Bastion $3.74 (I just know that'll be $2.49 next month, but I was sick of waiting, dammit!)
From Amazon: Zeno Clash $0.99
And from Gamersgate: Endless Space Admiral Edition $7.40
Total: $21.40?! Ugh, I hate how high it seems when you tally it up at the end thinking you've spent practically nothing. :D

Congratulations, Steam! First sale in a long, long time (Summer 2011, perhaps?) where I've bought more through the Steam store than through its competitors.

Edit: in case anyone's inspired by my post to buy the Arkham City: Nightwing DLC, I'll just point out that I had already purchased the Robin DLC, which is apparently superior to the NW DLC.

Don't remember the prices, but it was only about $9 out of pocket thanks to Amazon and Steam GCs.

Heading off the sale with KotOR II at 75% off was a great move on Steam's part. Appears to have greased a lot of people's... um... wallets? That metaphor kind of fell apart in the middle.

Ended up with:

KOTOR II - $2.49
Two Worlds: EE $1.99 (Amazon, non-Steam)
Rome: Total War Gold - $0.99 (Amazon, non-Steam)
Final Fantasy XI: AE - $4.99 (Amazon, non-Steam)
Zeno Clash - $0.99 (Amazon)
Silverfall: Complete (in a trade)
Dig Dug - $3.49 (Amazon, non-Steam)
Kingdoms of Amalur: Complete - $11.99 (Amazon, Origin)

Wasn't impressed with the Steam sale this time around. There were a few gems (KOTOR II for sure, Silverfall), but nothing head turning. Seems like every impressive price was beaten elsewhere (like Dishonored on GG for $16ish with blue coins).

Oh well, all the more reason to be ready for the Winter Sale!

Picked up Chivalry-9.38
Alan wake American nightmare - 3.74
The Witcher EE- 2.5

Total-15.62.
Going to wait to get The Witcher 2 in winter which will give me time to play the first one.
I had a 20$ budget so I would say I did pretty good. Ill use that extra $ to buy some lunch.
There's a deal on blue coins?
Not positive how it worked (since Dishonored isn't really on my wanted list). It had to do with buying blue coins, and then buying Dishonored on the UK GamersGate site with those blue coins + with the IGN discount (before the IGN discount was discontinued). Ended up being around $16 I think.

Great deal. A bit complicated though.

Here's what I've gotten:

Amazon ($62.46) (Figured out a way to make digital purchases using my Canadian credit card)
XCOM: Enemy Unknown $24.99
FIFA Soccer 13 $19.99 (Origin. Damn EA support finally gave me my hacked account back. Only took them about 3 months)
WB Combat Bundle $9.99
Paradox War Chest $7.49

Steam ($53.85)
Silverfall + Earth Awakening Pack $3.74 (!)
Quantum Conundrum DLC Puzzle Pack 1 Desmonds Debacle $0.74
Quantum Conundrum IKE-aramba DLC $0.74
Galactic Civilizations II $4.99
Double Fine Bundle (fall 2012) $9.99
Transformers: War for Cybertron $4.99
Culpa Innata $2.99
Call of Cthulhu $5.99
Legend of Grimrock $3.74
Drakensang: The River of Time $4.99
Drakensang: Phileasson's Secret $2.49
The Void $2.49
Zeno Clash $0.99
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II x2 $4.98

Green Man Gaming ($1.87)
SkyDrift $1.87

CAG forums ($12.99)
Two Worlds 2 Velvet Edition $3.99
The Adventures of Shuggy $1
Prototype 2 + DLC $6
Thief: Deadly Shadows $2

Total: $131.17

Dishonored was 23,000 coins on the UK site. Less the IGN and G2PO discounts, it was 20k. With the G2PO code you could buy 20k BC for $19.

You also got about a thousand BC "cash back" ($1 worth) when you bought it, so the total was either $19 or $18 depending on whether or not you planned to use those coins.
you shoulda picked up lara croft and the guardian of light. its probably better than legend and anniversary combined. its really that good. but great prices on those two tomb raider games nevertheless.
I should have, but I didn't...because I have it already. ;)

GTA IV looks horrendous, and it is running on a GTX 670 with 30 FPS. Have it on high, and there is no draw distance whatsoever plus the lights of all vehicles are flickering. Hoping this patch im downloading fixes this.

Those are common issues, it's a crappy port. I've got the same issues with my Radeon HD 7970. It doesn't consistently run at 30 FPS for me though, it ranges from 30-60 FPS usually (unless indoors where the FPS skyrockets).

GTA IV was pretty broken for a while (retail, near release). I didn't get around to completing it until three years ago, at which point it ran fine on my GTX 260.

I remember there being a gta4 mod called ice or something that makes the game incredible, just install the mods and gta will look really nice.

Word of warning, if you bought the complete edition you might have trouble with activating Episodes from Liberty City. I bought mine from Amazon that was bundled with Max Payne 3 awhile ago, couple of months pass and I ended up installing Episodes from Liberty City. It worked out alright, but I wasn't able to register the product key (provided by Steam prompt) through Windows Live so I opted to play offline. Next day I try loading up the game again it gives me a securom error. I figured out that the product key wasn't actually a key, but a redemption code for Windows Live (you need to register the code with Live first in order to get the proper key). However, till this day I can't get pass the securom error (tried deleting/redownloading twice).

Added to my collection:

Castle Crashers + dlc
Orcs Must Die 2 Complete Pack
Trine 2 Goblin Menace
Skyrim: Hearthfire
LotR: War in the North (amazon)

Other:
4x Zeno Clash for coupons/giveaways (amazon)

Might still add Civ 5 GOTY + Gods and Kings to the list as well, going to check out the demo first.

Overall, not a bad sale. The last two days were definitely the best though imo.

If you get GTA IV you have to get LCPDFR. By far one of the best mods for any game. From there get Spark IV and ELS so you can download custom police cars to use. You can also get a bait car mod, towing service, police helper, cell phone mod and a whole list of other mods.

My mods also include laser and flashlight weapons, car spotlight mod, auto license recognition mod, dash cam v2, traffic flow and horn/siren mods.

It was buying 20,000 Blue Coins here and then buying Dishonored here, using code G2PO both times. Not terrifyingly complicated. ;)

It's actually still available now, but without the IGN discount you may need to buy 23,000 Blue Coins, which means buying 20,000 here, 1,000 here, 1,000 here and 1,000 here and then buying Dishonored here, using code G2PO each time. OK, that's a bit complicated. :whistle2:# But less so if you already have a bunch of Blue Coins from previous purchases/reviews/ratings and don't need to buy the full 23,000.

Hey, we're CAGs.
Looks like all I'm getting this sale is Alan Wake's American Nightmare.
Don't worry, the Holiday Sale will eat your wallet just fine.

For some reason using a 360 controller makes the game run at a sligjtly higher fps.. i dont know why everyone is up in arms over a pc port for gta 5. Its going to run like complete shit

Spent WAY more this weekend on a Vita and console games. :D
Hm. I suddenly want Dream Machine very badly.

There's a demo in Steam, but you can also play the first bit on the developer's website. I really enjoyed the art style, humor, and dialogue. Also, there was an ilomilo reference. :)

You still have time to pick up the new indie royale bundle and get the first three episodes.

Didn't even know that bundle was still going.

Only want Dream Machine though. Already have Puzzle Agent 2.

My haul for November:

Steam (16.50):
Sonic CD: 1.50
KOTOR 2: 2.50
Faerie Solitaire: 1.25
Torchlight 2 Group buy: 7.50
OMD 2: 3.75

Amazon (83.50):
Prototype 1 and 2 pack: 7.50
THQ bundle (Homefront, Red Faction: Armageddon & guerilla, STALKER, Warhammer 40k, Metro 2033): 10
Civ V: Gods and Kings: 7.50
Borderlands 2: 30
XCOM: 25
Syndicate: 2.50
Zeno Clash: 1

Green Man Gaming:
Dishonored: 22.50

Total: $122.50... not too bad, unless you count some of the non-PC deals I purchased as well :/
I check this thread regularly. I both find AND POST deals I find on Steam games. Seriously, if you're into getting the best prices on Steam, this thread can't be beat.

True it becomes a bit of a "lounge" when the major sales are on, but I think that's mostly because ALMOST EVERYTHING is on sale. Would you prefer that we all make our own threads for the 1000+ titles currently on sale? :D
If it's more current than Torchlight 2 preorder on Novenmber 26th, 2012, then yes, lol. I mean every user has time to brag about what they bought, but can't edit a WiIKI page to let others know without having to wade in this muck? That's plain lazy, tbh. I know there are lots, which makes it even more sad that each person can't add 1 game that they think is the best deal? Most of the OP's in the deals section are where new users come to find deals & this thread has turned off about 4 new people I turned on to CAG, cuz they didn't want to see what people bought when the deal was over (since I told them it was a place to find great deals on any platform).

Hey, you. You there. Stop being a dick. :)

Go edit the WIKI and show us how it's supposed to be done.

This thread brings in new people in busy periods for that EXACT reason - it's busy. It's what brought me in and what's brought others in too. It won't suit everybody but it suits plenty.

If you edit the Wiki properly I'll make you a nice cup of tea and we can have a chat about it over a hobnob or two.

Different strokes. This thread was a primary reason why I stuck around; the community atmosphere and games talk (what's good, what is buggy, what's just terrible) and even the banter made it an interesting and informative place for talking about sales.
Like how I own Dream Machine now. Everyone be happy for me. :grouphug:
Those multicolored hugging guys look pretty dream-esque. As opposed to looking "Dreamy".

Pretty much this.

This isn't the Xbox threads. People do things differently here but you will find they are friendly and sociable and willing to help if you aren't being a total rude jerkwad.

The thing is with the Flash deals in particular flipping so fast and so often, editing that wiki is A LOT OF WORK. You are certainly welcome to do it next time for the winter sale if it bugs you so much though.

Anyway, you can easily see all the featured daily and flash deals on Steam at any given time just by going to Steam's site so is it really that big of a deal that it's not totally updated all the time in real time here?

If you want to browse, go look at Steam, if there's something in particular you are interested in then ask. It's not that hard.

*Edit: As an aside to all this unpleasantry, I wonder if there's some way to insert a self updating RSS feed into the OP wiki so the lazy impatient console gamers who wander in won't go into a nerd rage in the future.

Pardon me while I put my feet up and lounge here a bit...

As a newcomer I have to say, the light-hearted nature of this theard (and others here) are what made me finally decide to register and stick around. If I didn't want the warm and fuzzy atmosphere, I'd do all my discount searching solo and be anti-social like I am IRL.

FYI: I bought all my items I intended to buy on BF and then some. Unfortunately, I'm afraid I won't have any interest (or money) in buying anything during Amazon's Editor's Choice promo offering. I could compose a list of purchases, but if I do that, I'll know how much I spent which will make me sad...

You know you want a hug. It's okay to admit it.

I'm with Motoki. I rarely comment in deals threads, but I like the community we've established in this thread. It's my favorite thread on CAG, and the one I frequent most.
As to the question of whether you can activate the Steam version of The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition at GOG (Yes) to receive the Backup DRM-FREE version as well as the extras, and to what are the differences:

1. Right Click on The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition while in Library Mode (left pane shows game names)
2. Select "View CD Key"
3. Select "Copy to Clipboard"
4. Go to GOG Witcher/Witcher 2 Backup Copy Redemption
5. Paste the code into the box and hit redeem. Your Backup copy will now be in your GOG Library, as well as all the bonus content.

When you redeem The Witcher 2 on Steam and start downloading it, it will have 2 separate downloads.
The game and a 4.8 GB download titled The Witcher 2: Bonus Content.
This will appear in your Steam folder at the following address: /Steam/steamapps/common/the witcher 2.

Here are the differences between the Steam extras and the GOG extras. Will start with what's the same:

Same Bonus Content at GOG & Steam
-----------------------
Soundtrack
Map
Game Guide
Manual
Papercraft Dolls
Pamphlet & Envelope

Exclusive to Steam
------------------
Photos of Developer Offices
Promo Pictures
Screenshots

Exclusive to GOG
------------------
Wallpapers
Artbook
Avatars
Artworks
many more videos other than just Developer Diaries
Triss Playboy Session
Comic Book
4 Bonus Tracks to the Soundtrack

There's definitely some overlap, but the clear winner here is GOG. Let Steam download the extras folder (it will automatically anyway). Then consolidate it into the folder that you downloaded the GOG extras into.
thanks, that is all useful and should be stickied somewhere. i dont think i will buy witcher 2 right now, it is bound to be $5 or $2.50 soon enough(well maybe in 2013 or 2014). i was fortunate to get skyrim from the microsoft store for $10 so will be playing that for months.

I have to admit that I haven't looked at the first post for several months now. I mainly only come into this thread to read the chat and find the occasional deal :) This isn't ONLY a Steam thread; I see people post deals for PC games that are cheaper on other websites such as Amazon PCDD, GMG, etc, which I appreciate. No need to get hung up over semantics; consider this more of a community chat room than a pure Steam deals thread :)

On the side note of showing our haul, I was mainly just surprised how little I spent on Steam compared to the other digital distribution retailers. I have extremely fond memories of the past couple Summer and Winter sales, so I hope next month doesn't disappoint! I still have several games I would love to see a 50-75% sale for (half minute hero, FTL, etc).

I'm up to about $12, mostly on DLCs. My big purchase of the sale was Avernum: Escape from the Pit for $4.99. I've been eyeballing the Spiderweb stuff for a while and this and Nethergate are the only ones I don't have (well, now I have Avernum 1). I thought there was at least a fair chance I would start Avernum before the Christmas sale, so that was all the justification I needed. I also picked up Hearthfire (had to register my $10 Skyrim key first), but based on what I've read about Dawnguard, I figured I'd wait on a 75% sale for it. I picked up another SR3 DLC, the Maximum Pleasure Pack, partly because I think I will love that shark gun and the man cannon (reminds me of Red Alert 3). I snagged a couple of cheap CKII DLCs, Legacy of Rome and Songs of Byzantium.

I'm kicking around the idea of spending $3-5 more before the sale shuts down in a few hours because I yanked a couple of things out of my cart that I'm reconsidering (Zombie Driver HD and Silverfall Complete).

Other than that, I bought a couple of Amazon's $3.99 MP3 albums (Jason Mraz as a gift for the missus and the Brave sountrack for me) and no game stuff from Amazon. I'll probably wait to see what Tony has in store for us closer to Christmas.

I ended up with The Witcher 2 to clean out the remaining $50 I had put in my Steam wallet at the beginning of the sale. I did the GOG.com backup, but didn't realize I would view my CD Key in Steam until I read walkonshadows post above.

Long story short, I now have The Witcher 2 in my GOG library. I had a question though - seems that this game has some... ehem shall we say... questionable content. Are these parts really graphic or is it like "sex scene from Mass Effect"?

I wasn't a big fan of HMH. The idea seemed a lot more fun that the actual game itself. You may want to research that one to make sure it's what you're after :)

However, FTL has been a pleasant surprise for me and one of my favourite games of 2012. It has plenty of replayability and scratches that pleasepleasepleasedontdieonme itch. It's also very unforgiving as you can lose an hour's work in just one jump; it's that constant threat of death that really drew me in. As RockPaperShotgun pointed out, some games are at their best when it all goes hopelessly wrong.

It's pretty Mass Effect-y, I'd say. You might see the occasional boob, if that bothers you, but there are only three NPCs that Geralt can have relations with, if I recall correctly (I only saw two of them). It's handled in a very mature way. Let's just say it's much better than the odd nude-card collecting game that was censored everywhere in the first game and made some folks rather uncomfortable.
