Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Has anyone played Gatling Gears? It looks really nice but the DRM and activation limit make me want to stay away. However this post makes it not sound as bad as it could be. The limit is a 24 hour one, but the drm remains.

It looks like it's the first time it's been $2.49 though. Thoughts?
It was free during the Origin sale!

Great game! I have it on 360.
Just wanted to repost this so no one misses it. Your backlog will thank me.
That is pretty nice, thanks for the repost!

The Mac version of Civ V Gods and Kings is $7.50 on Amazon. I'm pretty sure since it needs Steam, it nets you both the Mac and PC versions. The other DLC is on sale, too.

Is it worth picking up? Or is it going to go lower than $7.50? (Yes, I guess I am that cheap, unless I'm going to play something immediately.)
Hmmmm, Trainz vs. Zombies 2 on sale... but I have yet to get through Part 1.... decisions decisions
Speaking of Trains Vs Zombies 1, I can't find it in the store. Bummer, I was gonna pick that up.

I grabbed it from Amazon and have put 5 hours back into Civ 5 since last night. I feel like it added a lot to the game and brought back some of the things it had been missing since Civ 4. I doubt it will go lower than $7.50 this year, but at worst you'd be losing a dollar or two at most. As for the DLC's I can't comment, I only have the base game and now Gods and Kings.
What do you guys think about Rage? Worth five bucks?
Absolutely. For $5, that's a great price.
Depends where you want to get it; if you want it on disc already; and how long you want to wait for it, though - NewEgg (in a Retail Box shipped to you) or Steam (for download).
Keep in mind - this game takes up around 22 GB in size.
If you got a very fast Internet connection and/or you can do other things while this monster downloads, buying directly from Steam is probably not an issue for you here.

EDIT:
Some of my thoughts on RAGE PC a few posts up.

I'm tempted with The Walking Dead, but I won't play it now, and I bet it'll be the same or lower during the holiday sale. Any thoughts?

(Thanks for the Civ V advice! Decided to grab it.)
So, are these flash deals more or less just every 6 hours or so?
So far that's the spacing, yes. Last time (Summer Sale) they only went to 12 hour intervals when the Flash Deal was going to be overnight, but so far there have been 3 new flash deals every 6 hours.

Am I missing something, or are the main deals really going on for another 25 hours before they change? Shouldn't they be changing in a few hours?
Am I missing something, or are the main deals really going on for another 25 hours before they change? Shouldn't they be changing in a few hours?
It seems the common line of thought around here is that it will change in a few hours, but they extend the old deals like they did on the last sale for people who missed them. That could just be wrong though, I guess we'll see.

The last few Steam sales have had the previous days deals last another day while the new deals still start as well.

Yeah, that is my assumption. There will be new deals in 90 minutes, but you'll still be able to buy the current deals for another 25 hours.

Buy it now, play it now, love it now.
Any impressions on "Of Orcs and Men?"
Heard it was a decent game overall, the combat takes some getting use too. I bought it as it was one of the games I was really wanting as I find playing from the Orc's perspective to be really interesting. Normally it is always human killing orcs because orcs are invading human lands, in this game it is the other way around sort of but you go to assassinate the king of men because they are invading your land.
Buy it now, play it now, love it now.
Seconded. I'm about to start the last episode - DEFINITELY recommend the game. Play with headphones if you can, adds to the atmosphere. I was very surprised by this game. I waited until a $15 deal a few months ago, and started playing immediately. First game in a while that I didn't immediately throw into the backlog.

If you won't play it in the next month you might as well wait, could be it will get to 66 or 75% in the holiday sale, if not, it will almost certainly be 50% off again.

Still pondering as I bake pies...

... for Rage, I have an i5 760, 2x GTX 460 1GB SSC, 4GB of RAM. I can probably manhandle it a bit better... but if it runs like crap, meh. I have so many other shooters to play.

May break down for Dead Island, though.

Finished the last episode yesterday. Definitely one of the year's best games. I won't spoil anything from the final episode, so I'll say that:

- it's the shortest episode (took maybe a little over one hour)
- not much gaming per se, mostly dialogue scenes with the need to tie things up as much as possible
- some story resolutions work (the most important ones, I think) and some are debatable
- there's stuff after the credits

I'll say that the 3rd episode is still the best overall.

Opinions on Serious Sam 3 BFE?

My friend is pestering me for another co-op/MP game we can play together but I have a feeling it (the Serious Sam franchise anyway) might end up on a daily. My friend's not the most patient person and wants me to buy now, now, now. I am, however, a CAG. My wallet will resist!

I have nearly the same specs as you except I have more RAM and SLI'ed 460 768MB GPUs. I had some difficulty with stuttering and the ubiquitous popups. Try following some of the optimization guides to help alleviate (somewhat) these problems. Though not game-breaking, it was annoying to play and certainly detracted from the experience. However, there's always the possibility that the problems may be completely on my end.

Wait for a daily. It will be there without a doubt.

That said, I still think SS3 is mediocre as hell.
Does anyone think Arma 2: CO will go any lower than 50%? It's only dropped 10% since the summer sale.
I've never seen a game go lower than a daily sale price... Of course it could always go lower in a future sale. But for this sale, I would be it won't be cheaper.
Is Rage any good?
If you go in knowing/expecting nothing, I'd say it's an average/above average FPS. If you go in believing all the marketing hype that surrounded it...it's disappointing. (I still bought it, however...twice now.)

Do you like Serious Sam? If so, you'll probably like 3.

I got it for cheap during the Winter sale and played through it with a buddy; we both had fun, and we're long time Serious Sam fans.

Going to pick up the DLC during the sale I think

Wow, I am not usually one to say it, but the new dailies are TERRIBLE.

Sleeping Dogs was $13~ on GMG. Prototype 1 + 2 was $10 on Amazon. Almost certain I have seen Max Payne 3 cheaper.

ARMA II is the best deal, but the other two games are snores for deals. Pretty sure Portal 2 has been that cheap in the past.

A big, resounding meh. Cmon, steam...

This is the cheapest for Max Payne 3 easily.

Where exactly have you seen Max Payne 3 for cheaper (on PC)? You crazy.

I'm thinking about picking that up. Is the DLC worth the $5 extra on Amazon?

I'm also going to pick up XCOM hopefully tomorrow on GMG and then get NFS MW on PS3 and I'll have everything I was looking for this weekend.
Where exactly have you seen Max Payne 3 for cheaper (on PC)? You crazy.
Pretty sure one of the GMG deals had it cheaper or at the same price previously.

But then again, I have heard nothing but tepid thing about MP3. Now if Sleeping Dogs was $15, I think there'd be a hooplah. I know MP3 is in the "Maybe if it's $5" category.

The Prototype 2 deal is just a stinker. It's not even a deal.

EDIT:
It's $12.49 on GG right now.
That's where I saw it.

So there yah go, Steam... not setting the precedent for prices...

On the thought of rage, I wound up buying it because I am in the process of building a new computer, and it seems to be considered the most 'system taxing' game around. So for five dollars, I'm basically going to use it to test how powerful my new setup is. (Because I'm not really a fan of benchmark programs they don't feel 'real.')

Amazon is price-matching the $15, and Steam has the complete pack with DLC for $20. If you don't have credit at one or the other, I'd grab it at Amazon for the $5 January coupon.
