Like I said, Nintendo Reps, or anyone else for that matter,

When they mean "Full" 1080p, that is all they mean, nothing else. They never said natively, they just say that your High Def television will be able to be hooked up to the Wii U.

Don't take their words for value, read between the lines. I suspect all titles will run at 1080p upscaled, just like the 360/PS3 have been doing for the past years. The Wii U isn't that high of a jump in terms of power to all of a sudden be able to play these AAA titles at 1080p natively.

Plus, here is the page about NSMB U:

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2012/10/new_super_mario_bros_u_confirmed_as_1080p_or_not
Actually, they did say "natively". Maybe it wasn't stated officially through a press release (I'm honestly not sure), but it has been stated by reps, developers, and reliable news sources. I hadn't read about NSMB not being 1080p after all, but several other launch titles have been announced as supporting native 1080p. I guess we'll know for sure once everything releases. I love Nintendo, but I do know they can be misleading at times (albeit unintentionally, methinks).
You must be a super hero then to see the difference on a 40" tv.
Reminds me of folks on Jimmy Kimmel Live who were given an iPhone 4S and told that it was the iPhone 5. Even when comparing it side by side with another 4S, people swore they could tell the difference...
They already backed off on Mario now saying it's 720 so don't get too excited.
I'm not "too excited"; just reiterating what has been said. My TV can't even display 1080p and it will probably be several years before I get one that can, so it makes no difference to me. I don't really care if the games are HD at all as long as they're fun.
Walmart has deluxe systems available for launch preorder? Damn, I'll have to check that out tomorrow.
You've certainly been missing out on what's going on around here, eh? You may want to get on top of that ASAP if it's not already too late.

Just a heads up for those buying games like Black OPs 2 and such. You will need to buy a headset too from a 3rd party. The WiiU will not support voice chat via the mic on the gamepad controller. Also, don't play on playing with a Pro controller - it does not have a headset jack. Pretty mind boggling that they screwed this up. Maybe they can fix it with a Pro Controller 2, but I wouldn't count on it. Also no voice chat for all if 2 or more people are playing on the console, online (for example Black OPs 2). Only one person gets voice chat. So disappointing. I mean I'm happy to have a HD Nintendo console anyway, but I wish they'd gotten this right.
I went to the Walmart near me last night to pre-order a second system (in case my Walmart.com online order screws up) and I was the first person on the list this week - so i know not every walmart store is sold out yet :)

As for the HD Discussion.. I'm happy with 720p native. I just don't want the games to look like Wii games did on a big screen (I grew tired of fuzziness and jagged textures, especially the newest Zelda).
I recently started playing LOZ:TP for the first time ( i a huge zelda fan but couldnt get into the controls) and Monster Hunter Tri, jaggies are definitely present and it'll be nice to see my nintendo love affairs getting the hd treatment whether 720vs1080, as long as everything looks crisp, runs smooth and is immersive.

I can't stand talking to people through a headset (or at all, really) when playing games, so lack of full voice chat is just fine and dandy with me. I do know other people will be upset by it, though. But if it becomes a big enough issue, Nintendo could always release an update for it...as long as they haven't designed the Wii U to work like PS3. And the console uses Bluetooth, so wireless headsets may be a possibility. It is strange that voice chat won't use the GamePad directly, but I imagine that very well might be a power issue
You can fix that by playing them on your PC hooked up to your TV (if your PC is strong enough to play them). It makes games like Xenoblade, The Last Story, and Skyward Sword look like early Xbox 360 games.
Umm how can i do that!
I wonder if the Wii headset will work on the Wii U? It was a USB headset by Nintendo.
No it wont, and voice chat isn't supported by the Pro Controller
I think i might wait a bit to pre-order.......I seriously doubt they will sell out of a console pre-order. Cash too tight, and still not 100% sold on the launch titles
I still snicker at this post every time I snap to the bottom of page one to snap to the last page on my phone. :p

I just came back from my local Walmart and I pre ordered/put on layaway, a Deluxe Wii U. The employees were not knowledgeable at all. My question is, since did this am I now guaranteed one at launch?

Their memo indicates that the system will stop processing them once they run out of the amount they expect. So yes, you should but none of us know the actual answer

I have a pre-order in at Best Buy for a while now, but I may cancel. This doesn't have anything to do with the voice chat issue (I still want a WiiU even though disappointed in the inept voice chat support). Rather a matter of money. Looks like we are going to have to buy a new car soon. Maybe this weekend. Will have to cut expenses if so. Darn. :(

I just cancelled my preorder with newegg for the pro controller. You cannot use it on original Wii games, AND now you can't plug in the headsets to it either, so you still need the gamepad next to you.

I suspect we'll see an updated version of it released after the dust settles, supporting both those features, so I can wait on that.

Just an Fyi for everyone, Walmart has a policy that in order to make it in their flyer, a item will have to be available in 95% of their store, and if a supplier cannot fulfill their orders, there will be a penalty fee. So for us whoop pre order at Walmart, we are safe.
Even if the wii u is only 720p, its still amost twice the wii resolution. ;)
720p is over twice the resolution of 480p

720p - 921,600 pixels

Just saying, at this point in the console game, and in late 2012 in general, there's no reason the Wii U shouldn't be full HD.
My cousin is a programmer at Sony, he told me that the cost to make a native 1080p game is much higher than 720p.
I ask why and he said there is something to do with the licensing of the engine, which I think it's bs and sucks

The issue with original Wii games is an extremely baffling design decision. You'd think that getting the Wii U to act as interface between the pro controller & legacy Wii software would be a very easy problem to resolve. Hopefully that's something that can be addressed in a future system update.

Haven't you been reading this thread? Don't you know that you can flip the system and make enough to buy that car you need... ;)
Yeah, but not really interested in doing that.
Good for you.

It's nice to see good people are still around.

Hey guys, just a heads up if anybody hasn't said yet, Target now has preorder cards for the Wii U. I work for Target and we got them in today (five of each only). It is $5 to reserve the system, but you still only get a $5 gift card (which is strange seeing the Vita one was a $20 card...) so you basically get your $5 back in the form of a gift card.

Not the greatest deal but it is good for folks who are worried about getting the system on launch and you can use a Target RedCard to get 5% off the system purchase.

How dare you derail this thread with important Wii U pre-order information. Don't you know we are here to discuss past launch stories, flipping and HD resolution? The nerve of some people. j/k Thanks for the info. This Target pre-order gives another option for...waiting in line overnight, flipping and playing upscaled games.

Its kinda mind blowing that people are still this dumb. Do you honestly think they won't have a completely wireless headset in the next 2 months?

And did you seriously think the mic on the gamepad was going to be used for voice chat? Is today the first time you've heard of the console?

It is 2012 and this is nintendo they like to use revolutionary technology from the previous decade and call it mind bowling. So there is no need to bash the previous person's comment about voice chat capibility and so forth. Can't we all just get along with some of Dr. Mario's pillz'.

best buy pre-order question?

I noticed they did the preauth again yesterday, this is the third since I order for in store pickup. I guess my question is, do the in stroe pickup take priority over the people who ordered in store? I think they should honor each preorder online and in store equally, but was just curious.

Why would you not think that gamepad mic could be used for voice chat? I was also surprised by this.

Has anybody ever used a non-directional microphone for voice chat before, like the integrated microphone on your laptop? It may be convenient for you, but for everyone you're playing with who can hear every time a mouse farts in the other room, it's a pain in the ass.

On a semi-related note, there's nothing stopping Microsoft from letting you say voice commands into your included Xbox Live headset, but they make you buy a $100+ robot head to enable the feature.

This is absolutely nothing new. At best, there will be a fully wireless solution in a few months. At worst, they're coaxing people into using the Gamepad instead of leaning on the Pro controller like a whole bunch of change-fearing trolls.

From my understanding, they are filed separately. So you should feel safe.

Uhhh, because it wasn't made for voice chat? I don't recall using the Seaman mic for online chat either. If it was never intended for voice chat, it shouldn't be surprising that it won't work for it.

Why all the hullabaloo over the pro controller, anyways? Isn't it basically the exact same layout as the gamepad, except without the screen? I could see the point of the classic pro on the original Wii, since it's a drastically different layout than the remote+nunchuck, but for this...unless you're wanting it for a second player, I don't see that much benefit over using the gamepad.

This really don't surprise me too much. Nintendo wants to be kid friendly and I've read that even the Miiverse dialog bubbles are going to be moderated and it's going to take 30 mins for each message to post. While waiting for that the little hornballs can open TVii and watch a few porn scenes in a hard R rated movie. All I can say is now you're playing with power!

Battery life for one, the main gamepad lasts about 5 hours the pro? 80 hours. I think why use the pad with the screen if it has not use in the game? Who wants to be charging everyday basically if thats all you use. That alone makes a huge difference plus there are many other reasons but I'm not going into them all here now.

Generally they send two separate supplies of units for online order with store pickup and regular shelf stock/store preorders. Having said that, it all really depends on what the supply overall looks like as far as how many each store really gets. As far as I am seeing, there is no indication that Nintendo wasn't able to manufacture a ton of units for launch. While that could change, generally we start seeing stories about short supply, etc...a month or two before launch if there is a real shortage. I see this as being more of an iPhone 5 type supply where most preorders were fulfilled and if you didn't get one on launch day, they were restocked very quickly thereafter.

Really?

You're really going there?

So even if it's wireless it will still need to be connected to the gamepad which has a three hour lifespan, that's unacceptable.

Please go ahead and continue to defend poor system design

If that is literally how it is with no other way of plugging a headset in then yes, its absolutely unacceptable. I just have an extremely hard time believing they would fuck up that badly, that's all.

Given a wired headset, I would rather plug it into my gamepad, which can be plugged into any wall outlet in my entire house (or not even plugged in at all for a few hours), than have to plug it into the console itself, which has to be within a few feet of my television.

Yea, that makes sense. The thing is, its already confirmed to have bluetooth for other functions. It shouldn't need a dongle of any type to connect a wireless headset. Since the reports are from a 3rd party rep, i'm taking everything with a grain of salt until I have it in my hands, or at least until a site gets to do a full hardware preview.

Thanks for the tip! I just picked one up.

BTW, Nintendo themselves used to tout (a few months ago) the gamepad mic as a way to chat with others. If you can video chat with your iPad while it's sitting on your desk, seems to me like you'd be able to chat with your Wii U gamepad.

So apparently some guy got a text today from layaway saying that Walmart accepted too many pre-orders for the Wii U. He is still guaranteed one, just not necessarily at launch. I'm thinking, just to be on the safe side, I should go pre-order a second from Target.
Thanks for the tip! I just picked one up.
You just walked in and they were available inside the glass door? I called 2 different Targets in NYC and neither one has them. I wonder if the person who picked up has no idea they're available.

Some guy is a very trusted and reliable source.
Anyways went to my target to check today. No go as of this moment, never got anything in for preorders.

A txt? Really? Don't think walmart will use this method to communicate with their customer
