Sup CAGs!
This is my first attempt at a decent thread on here so any constructive criticism or advice is much appreciated and welcomed! I've saved a LOT of money on games in the past few months and the least I could do is contribute.

I'm currently in the market for Tomb Raider, and after comparing exclusives from some of the reputable retailers, I compiled a list of features for everyone to enjoy. I am aware that this is already a little dated, since Tomb Raider comes out next week, but it's my first attempt at this, and there's still some people on the fence about the game.

Also, this is my first of, hopefully, many posts like this. If anyone would like to give me a hand in compiling one solid, wikified thread that has preorder comparisons for all the upcoming games, please PM me and we can get something working.

Yeah but Silencer i could not resist muhha

I picked up the target one and the bestbuy one, the upcs are for sure different

target xbox: 662248912905
bestbuy xbox: 662248912844

however the bestbuy one has a bigger packaging and the game is sealed separately from the comic book. I haven't opened the bestbuy one yet but maybe the game inside will have the same upc as target, who knows

Also the first target I went to got 0 tomb raider games? wut? They said they never get the games on release day and to come back another day. I even made them check the back and they came back and said no. I had to drive 30 min away to find a target with one and they had 6 ps3 steelbooks and 6 xbox, not sure if they had more in the back or not.

My Target was out of PS3 copies and had about 4 of the 360 version left. I totally understand someone passing for the inevitable huge price drop but if it's as limited as it looks there's probably 20-25k of these in the country which will keep the value of this version up over time.
It's just some early skill unlocks. They're probably the first five skills you get in the game anyway.
Is that for sure? If thats the case I will redeem them asap

I was able to unlock two perks, the photo challenges seemed like way too much effort to put in. Shipped my copy via amazon one day shipping, t-minus four hours until delivery. If any Ps3 CAG's wanna try out our perks and multiplayer my S/N is:timobarrz

It doesn't necessarily need to be the same UPC as the Target steelbook. It just needs to be the same UPC as the "normal" version, assuming Target will be selling the normal version at some point. Given that it doesn't sound like Target is selling the non-steelbook version yet, it will be somewhat ballsy for someone to attempt a return of something that Target isn't even selling yet... although, given the reported small number of copies of the steelbook at each store, I can't imagine they'll be waiting long to sell the normal version unless they can restock the steelbooks.

The Target I went to didn't have any copies of Tomb Raider out for either system when I was there at 10am.

Target steelbook was too gorgeous to pass up. But I had a BBY preorder paid off. Picked them up; now have to decide what to keep and what to sell.

Just got the 360 and PS3 version at Target. The guy behind the counter said they only had around 10 for each system. Oh yeah, they didn't have the $5 gift card deal :(
This was at Mira Mesa

Can anyone who's picked up the collectors edition tell me if the game is just sealed like normal inside and that it's the normal UPC for the game? In other words, the retail package for the game.

I had to resort to having my CE shipped and I'm not sure I can wait another week to play.

Well damn now I'm wondering if I should keep it sealed and keep my BB copy to play. I was going to try to either return the BB one or just sell it to a friend but now I'm wondering if will truly be rare.

Had a buddy grab me a copy. He texted me and told me that the guy in front of him bought 5 copies for each

Thankfully there were enough for him to get himself one and one for me :D

Even the CEs at Best Buy have the Aviatrix DLC included in the package, not emailed or on the receipt so I'm guessing the UPCs are different from the ones Amazon has.

I'm curious to see what the "Final Hours Edition" packaging looks like, especially for the CE. Will post pics of it later today when it comes, if no one else has by then.

Yeah the collectors edition game is game sealed alone and when I scanned it seems to be the normal UPC

Yes same here, I woke up and scoured for some early pics, but no one seems to have it.

I can't wait to get it, hopefully they didn't take the cheap way out and just shrinkwrap a small artbook to the game haha.

Does this mean that if I want to sell the skin i have to break the seal on the game itself?

5 copies EACH jeebus

I went during lunch and picked me up a 360 copy...the Target close to my work didn't even have them out on display. I almost walked out thinking they didn't get any, but I saw it with one last walk through.

The $5 GC deal was a preorder bonus. The preorder cards that you can buy for a $1. I noticed that when I picked up my copy this morning you don't get a refund of the $1 you originally paid to preorder. So technically it was only a $4 GC.

Can't believe with the new Tomb Raider coming out... I was able to sell my old (sealed) copy of Tomb Raider Legend for $70.

I got the CE at GameStop, and the Steelbook at Target. The copy inside the CE appears to be the normal retail version, as it had a price when scanned at Target. (It shares the same DPCI as the Steelbook.)

Really? I think someone said the Best Buy UPC and the Target one were different though...probably the packaged comic book then.

Poop, oh well I got Tomb Raider on each console I guess. I'm a sucker for steelbooks.
However the bestbuy one has a bigger packaging and the game is sealed separately from the comic book.
Can someone that picked up the BB version please confirm? Pics would be helpful.

I just unboxed my collector's edition from Amazon. The art book is included. It is located underneath the tin inside of the plastic wrapping. After you pull off the slip cover, you will see the art book!

*EDIT*

After you take the game out of the collector's tin, you can put the art book in the space left by the game case. It is a perfect fit.

The soundtrack that comes with the CE edition is only HALF of the soundtrack. It has 10 songs on it and says to visit a website to purchase the rest of the tracks. There are 20 tracks on the website. Somehow they do not mention this in the advertising for the CE. What a ripoff....

That sucks. sounds like they did cheap out.. dammit.

I noticed there are 19 game add-ons already available for Tomb Raider on the XBL Marketplace. Some are pre-order bonuses and some are from buying Tomb Raider products like the strategy guides or controller. Here's a list for anyone curious like me.

TOMB RAIDER (X360/PS3)

Amazon:

  • Hunter Skin: An exclusive outfit that camouflages Lara in a heavy coating of mud, action movie-style. - 80 MSP

Best Buy:

  • 15% off a Limited Edition guide ($32.30 + tax after discount)
    • Guide includes an exclusive 1.5" metal amulet with rope from the game, two special in-game digital downloads (The Scavenger Scout - 80 MSP and the Scavenger Executioner (NOTE: NOT AVAILABLE ON XBOX LIVE...YET)) and a collectible hardcover strategy guide with a deluxe finish.
    • (NOTE: The regular Strategy Guide includes the The Scavenger Scout in-game digital download. - 80 MSP)
  • Tomb Raider Survival Limited Edition XBOX 360 controller ($39.99 when purchased with game) includes in-game digital download of the Scavenger Archer (NOTE: NOT AVAILABLE ON XBOX LIVE...YET).

Walmart:

GameStop:
  • Exclusive Lost Adventurer Challenge Tomb. An exclusive tomb for Lara to raid! In this new location, Lara will encounter all new environment puzzles that will test her abilities. (NOTE: NOT AVAILABLE ON XBOX LIVE...YET)
  • Shanty Town Multiplayer Map - 240 MSP

Amazon/Best Buy/Walmart/GameStop:

Tomb Raider: Collector's Edition $99.99 + FS
  • Includes any store-specific exclusives (including Amazon)
  • Weapons Pack DLC
  • (NOTE: There are two Hitman Absolution Weapon Packs (1, 2) available on Xbox LIVE for 160 MSP/pack and each pack includes 3 weapons. I believe these are different than what's included here. I could be wrong though. The picture of the LE contents look like a shotgun, assault rifle and pistol.)
Here's a list of the individual weapons (6):
    [*]Agency SPS 12 - 80 MSP
    [*]HX AP-15 - 80 MSP
    [*]JAGD P22G - 80 MSP
    [*]M590 12ga - 80 MSP
    [*]Silverballer - 80 MSP
    [*]STG 58 Elite - 80 MSP

Hope you CAGs find this useful!
There are some other add-ons available that don't fall into the pre-order category necessarily. First up, characters!

  • Tomb Raider Outfit Pack: A 3-pack bundle of outfits for Lara — Hunter, Aviatrix and Guerilla. - 240 MSP (NOTE: These are the pre-order outfits from Amazon, BestBuy and Walmart in a single pack.)
  • Scavenger Bandit: The crafty Scavenger Bandit - 80 MSP (NOTE: This is different than the Scavenger Scout, Executioner, or Archer that you can get with the regular/LE guide and LE controller).
  • Fisherman: The stalwart crew Fisherman - 80 MSP (NOTE: It seems to be the only way to get this character is to buy it).

Another odd category of downloads are in-game perks. If you pre-ordered the game from certain retailers you would have gotten a code for the Tomb Raider Scavenger Hunt. By answering 12 questions (1 point per correct response) or submitting 12 themed photos (2 points per accepted response) you earned entries into contests and could earn up to 5 perks (each costing 6 points). By doing only the trivia you could earn the first 2 perks - Animal Instinct and Agility. Now 3/5 perks are available for purchase. (NOTE: You can purchase the 3rd and 4th perks - Pistol Burst and Pistol Silencer) but not the final perk - Headshot Reticle.)

  • Animal Instinct: The Animal instinct skill lights up XP-laden animals in Survival Instinct mode, to help Lara upgrade more quickly. - 80 MSP
  • Pistol Burst: The three-shot burst pistol upgrade lets Lara unleash a hail of firepower on her foes. - 80 MSP
  • Pistol Silencer: The pistol silencer lets Lara use stealthy tactics to overcome even the trickiest of situations. - 80 MSP

There you go! I didn't scan the thread before doing all this so hopefully I didn't waste my time and this will help somebody.

I'd imagine the version inside the CE varies by store. Since GameStop has no physical bonuses, and loves print DLC codes on their receipts, they did not receive a specialized version of the game, and carry the standard retail SKU.

Best Buy and Amazon both have physical bonuses bundled with both versions of the game, so I imagine that's why the BB UPC is different, and why Amazon's is probably different.

I don't think anyone has confirmed the BB UPC is different, have they? The UPC on the slipcase will be different, but has anyone looked at the UPC on the actual game case inside the slipcase? If the exclusive codes are inside the game case, I can see the UPC being different, though. If they are just hanging out inside the slipcover, though, there would be no reason for the UPC on the game case to be different.

Wow. Although Amazon says 10 tracks & BB says "Survivalist Cut" of the original soundtrack.. still stupid to not include the full thing in a CE

Hot damn, I did pre-order at Gamestop for the DLC code but if that's the case I'd rather swap the regular edition so I can keep the steelbook. Plus I can burn GS credit instead.

Apparently Amazon sent two emails with scavenger codes. The emails are slightly different in message content but both say the code is for scavenger hunt and to go to the site to redeem. Anyone know else get this?

I'm going to assume BB's exclusive version is akin to the FFXIII-2 exclusive. The game with standard packaging and upc will probably be sealed and encased in a cardboard holder.
Wow. Although Amazon says 10 tracks & BB says "Survivalist Cut" of the original soundtrack.. still stupid to not include the full thing in a CE
What has been confusing is that they advertised it as including over 60 minutes of music. It had already been reported on one site that there is between 30-40 minutes of music on the CE soundtrack, which would make the "over 60" claim false. I had wondered if there was some shot that they included some different tracks on the CE CD, but it isn't sounding like it...

heres hoping bestbuy drops the CE down in price a little in the future seeing as it looked like 2 were preorders and there were about 8 copies of the CE today
Yeah but there is signup code and then there is a dlc unlock code which i got yest morning from amzn. The unlock code gives people dlc of what they did in SH. The 2nd code is the problem.

Also amazon is sending unlock code most times for new orders and skipping the 1st signup code. So i think people are having 2 issues so ask amazon for 1st one without that its worthless.

SH register code email looks like this.

Again you need 2 codes they did what hitman absol did with sniper challenge and i never got 2nd code. Now contact amzn asap for right ones.

2nd one not working right now have to wait for tue?
Thanks for clarifying! I was beginning to wonder why I hadn't received my codes then seeing this I remember getting a 2nd email and wondering why they sent it when I already used the 1st code to enter the Scavenger Hunt. I just redeemed the 2nd code and got my 5 DLC perks! :D Now it's time to pick up the game and controller and Wreck-It Ralph since someone posted a $7 off coupon.
Awesome can we also buy the retailer DLC's on PSN too?
I did a quick search on PSN and it didn't show anything.

I'm still confused

The first code is needed to play the scavenger hunt at the website? The second code (despite email also saying it's for scavenger hunt) is actually a dlc code to enter on the console?
Yeah I got 2 Scavenger Hunt codes as well. So if anyone wants the extra one, quote my post here and I will PM it to you. :bouncy:
I wouldn't mind! :D

Cleaner7 Thanks for the clarification.

The 1st code is to register and play the scavenger hunt and after you log in you can then enter the 2nd code on the SH website and you will get an email with a code for each perk you unlocked (all 5 codes were in the 1 email for me). The email will have the normal XBL or PSN redeem codes.

Hope that helps!
