Here it is, the green tag thread for this year. I posted last years and decided it was probably time to start this years thread, so hopefully everything can stay in here. Anyway, on with the deal...

Starting July 3rd(started 2 weeks early) all green tag items will be 30% off. This will last for 4 weeks, then on August 14th they will be upped to 50% off and remain this way(date may be changed slightly). An additional drop will occur based on how good the stuff sells.

This year, they are actually ordering merchandise specifically for the green tag sale. Over 200 items are being ordered just for the sale. Besides that, there will be discontinued items and a few active items in the sale. Also, some green tag items from last year didn't drop to a penny. These items will be part of the sale(so instead of 90% off, you get 30% off now).

Monday July 4th - the big day. Stores get a list of what they have that will be on green tag. Stores can also look up every item thats part of the sale, so this is the day the list will most likely be out.

So it looks like there will be some good deals, but probably not as good as last year. I'm sure they'll make a few mistakes people will catch at the beginning(such as DDR being green tag for the first few days last year). Zon posted that his store got in some green tag games late last week, so its possible those may be part of this new deal(Attack of the Clones for GBA was one I think). Good luck everyone and lets hope this ends up being as great as last year.

Update 8/5 - The 50% markdown happens Sunday 8/14 definitely. Stores have started receiving the signs, so all those who were hoping it would happen then are in luck! More markdowns are still to be determined based on how good the stuff sells at 50%.

UPDATE 10/27 - THE GLITCH! Since everyone still can't seem to get the glitch correctly, here it is. Take 3 games you want for the Buy 2 get 1 free deal and make sure they are all exactly the same price. They cannot even be a penny different in price. Two of them must be green tag games and the third must be a regular price game. Make sure that the cashier rings the two green tag games first then the regular priced game. The system will give you both green tag games for half off and the regular priced game will be free. Here are two examples for those who still do not understand.

Transaction 1(this will ring correctly):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $14.99(green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $0.00(regular priced game)
Total $29.98

Transaction 2(this does not ring correctly because you gave them to the cashier in the wrong order):
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $29.99(green tag game)
Total before discount $89.97
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
PS2 MTV Remix 3 $0.00(green tag game)
Total $44.98

Transaction 3(this does not ring correctly either because you don't know how to buy 3 games that are the EXACT SAME PRICE):
PS2Mega Man Anniversary Collection $29.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $29.95 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total before discount $89.93
Then the discount is processed and you get this:
PS2 Mega Man Anniversary Collection $14.99 (green tag game)
PS2 La Purcelle Tactics $0.00 (green tag game)
XB Ninja Gaiden Black $29.99(regular priced game)
Total $44.98

Update 2 - 10/27 - THERE IS STILL NO CONFIRMED DATE FOR MORE THAN 50% OFF. It is all rumors as of right now. According to corporate, bigger discounts will be based on sell through of the merchandise, which right now seems to be going along with plan. I wouldn't expect until the end of November or December at the earliest to get a bigger percantage off, but once again that is not confirmed and just speculation. It wasn't until after Christmas last year the 90% hit.

Special thanks to Zon and Benboxer for their contributions to the green tag sale info.

**** = EXTREME YMMV - only offered online, only way you'll find it in a store is if someone returned it from online.
That...makes no sense. Why on earth would Toys R Us want to "teach us a lesson" by moving back a sale date?

They're in this to make a profit, not to spread some warped version of morality. The games that are on clearance are there because they're trying to get rid of them; why would the chain do something that would hinder that goal like pushing back a sale to screw over a small number of people who look for deals online?
Why does everyone accuse TRU of "pushing back the date"?

The date came from an online message board, not TRU. Could they have been planning it for the 27th and changed their minds? Yes, and they're allowed to because they never stated otherwise. It was just info posted by a random person. Large companies change their plans constantly.

A couple of random bargain websites and the people who frequent them do not register on the TRU corporate radar.

No one here is being "screwed over". I don't know where this sense of entilement comes from.

Agreed... this is like when somebody mentioned best buy was pulling a bait and switch for the $5 sale by having certain games for $10 instead.

It doesn't seem to make sense that they would want to screw people over but if they want to sell as much as possible it also doesn't make sense that they'd be having almost secret sales.
I'll call my TRU contact in just a sec to confirm for today in NJ
they said not yet.....boooo!!!
Just got Call of Duty Finest Hour for only $5.36. $20 with 50% off green tag, with an additional $5 off select games. I got 2.
Same here. That game is intense! Definitely worth $5. And if you grab an extra copy for the +$5 EB sale, it trades in for $6+$5=$11. Not too shabby.
Or sort of like what Best Buy did: Made everyone buy at full price thinking that the games would drop to $5 the next day and it turned out that most of them ended up being $10 and not $5. They then pulled the prices on the website so it was harder to get them to PM from their site.

TRU may have been banking on people buying now and waiting for Tuesday and when 70 didn't happen on Tues, people would just keep it at 50 or when they realized, it would be too late to return it.
who cares it didnt hit 70% today. you should be happy that you even know this site and was able to grab onto the Best buy stuff. I bet many people who didnt know about this site didnt get Jack crap from the BB sale (or knew fatwallet or any of the other sites that list it...) Hell i joined end of july 2004 and missed the big 5 buck CC sale... Yea it sucked but i got over it

Which version is it? What other games have the $5 off? I don't remember seeing this in their ads. I'd make another trip just to get it if it's the xbox version. almost bought it during GS B2G1 a week ago.

Its the PS2. The Xbox version has the $5 off, but its not green tagged, so it'll ring up at $15, along with GC.
still 50 percent here in Mobile... I was relly wanting to buy some christmas items for my nieces and nephews
Thanks for the info.

Still 50% off in Noland Road (MO) but i endup pickup Call of Duty (PS2) $5.33 after taxes. They still have few copies left. Also, i did hide Metal Slug 3 (XBOX) and Thieft (XBOX) in secret spot wait for 70% off green tag. :)

Is there an updated list to the games that are on green tag..or do the games vary with the location.

Sorry but I am new to the site. Thank you.

Just got back from TRU in Porter Ranch, CA. They had alot of Syphon Filters, Driver 3, Ace Combat, Tennis, ESPN brand games and one COD: FH (PS2). Anyway, I picked up Time Splitters 2 (GC) for $4.99 (after 50% discount)! Unfortunatly, they didn't have Viewtiful Joe (GC), Mega Man Ann Collection (PS2) or Street Fighter Ann Collection (PS2). :(

Thats too bad. There are some games that I thought is worth spending for at 50% and some at 70%. Guess we will have to wait.
What other titles count for this Activision $5 off deal?
i asked the same question at my store. the cashier said fantastic four and madagascar, and of course call of duty. (they didn't say anything about spiderman though)

I dropped by my TRU (N. Attleboro, MA) today just for a laugh and they ended up having some good stuff. I picked up, all after 50% off:

PS2
Phantom Brave - $14.99
Gradius V - $14.99
Trigger Man (I know, I know) - $3. 49

DS
Polarium - $14.99
Retro Atari Classics - $9.99
Feel the Magic - $9.99

They had a few more of each of these, even Phantom Brave. They also had Astro Boy for GBA for $14.99 and Sudeki for $9.99. Not to mention a million copies of Trigger Man and Maximo ($9.99).
The buy 2 get 1 free on all PS2, XBox, and Gamecube titles you so covet is the week of October 23rd. You know, the week Resident Evil 4 is out for the PS2. And Soul Calibur 3. and SSX 4....

If any of those other tru employee types don't believe me on this, check out the store homepage. It's under the advertising schedule.

FYI, I believe this year, much like last, green tag games are exempt from this sale.
Is this usually just a one-week sale?
Is this usually just a one-week sale?
Usually. It may be longer than one week, but I don't remember what it was last time around.

Just went to my local toys r us in Yonkers, NY. They had a pile out for ps2 games with the tag. Very crappy. I saw maximo and some bike game and other things I have never heard of.

As for ps1 they have about 20-25 Syphon Filters. Part 2 and Part 3.

My purchases so far at the green tag sale

Sudeki 9.99

Thats it for now, Ill buy a few more at 70%, but I do have my sights set on a couple games I think will be there at 90%
Does anyone know if the second Golden Sun is a part of the sale yet? I saw a ton of them at TRU the other day.
It was green-tagged at my store but I'm pretty sure it's YMMV. One or two other people have reported saying they got it at their store, but I'm not sure.
Thanks for the quick response. I'll probably check it out tomorrow then. :)
No problem. :)

Snagged the last copy of GG Isuka ($15) and Musashi ($10) at the Tyrone TRU in Saint Petersburg.

Thanks to GunstarRed for the heads up =D

The N Attleboro store has the best selection ive seen out of alot of the stores in the area

I asked a clerk at the North Riverside (Chicago) TRU if they would be dropping the discount any lower than 50% off, and she replied "Not anytime soon."

I usually stop by there once a week on the way home from work, so I'll update whenever the new sale starts.

Then you haven't hit the one in Bellingham yet. I was there Tuesday and picked up Call of Duty for $5 (to the shock of the clerk who immediately grabbed one for himself). They had a number of them left, as well as at least 5-6 copies of Baten Kaitos.

They had a couple others I was considering but figured I could risk waiting until the discount hit 70%. Of course, now that I've mentioned it I'm sure the store will be stripped dry, but check it out if you're in the area.

Not to discount Shieryda's post; Im sure someone else has some insider information as to when the 70% sale will begin.

I was totally about to say something about the B-Ham store being stocked, but then I saw we are from different states, haha. ^_~

It's green-tagged at my store as well, they had three or four last weekend...but I hated GS1 so much I just ignored them.

Went to the TRU in Kennesaw, GA on Wed and found Musaski, Tomb Raider, and COD. Employees freaked when they saw the prices. Stopped back by Thurs. to get a last minute gift. The 20 copies of Tomb Raider: AOD and 4 copies of COD from the day before were gone. Now there is officially jack left at that store. Unless winners like Syphon Filter for the PS or Triggerman floats your boat.

Happened to be at the Mall of Georgia store on 9/25. They actually had everything green tag labeled correctly and the games were outside of RZone with the Markdown toys. Since they were on a table by the toys they were picked over completely.

Does anyone have a decent selection left at stores near them or is it picked over pretty much everywhere now.
How do you get the Activision $5 off deal for Call of Duty Finest Hour? It just rang up at $10 for me.
It automatically drops $5 off the price at the register. The promotion could be over now though.

Also, something weird did happen to me. When I bought Call of Duty, the TRU computer took off the $5 first, making it $15, and then the 50% off, making it $7.50. I didn't notice until days later and it's not that big of a deal, but it's weird.

Same thing happen to me, but only for the first one. If you buy multiple copies of CoD on the same receipt, all the ones after the first will ring up $5.
