Thanks OP for the sale info. I want to get one of the Mega Man games on sale but can't decide which one. I had MM2 on NES back in the day and liked it, but not sure if i should get 1,3, or 4? Any thoughts?
You'll probably hate 1, trying to go to it after having played 2.

Been a while since I played any of the first 6 MM games, so can't give you specific examples. But do remember that 2 was a huge improvement over 1. 3 was mostly like 2, with some refinements. And, IIRC, 4 is when they introduced Rush.

Regardless, I'll probably still grab all four just to have instant access to them.

I grew up with NES so I played them all when they were new. I remember liking MM2 the best for some reason.
Yeah, 2 more or less became the blueprint for the rest of the games. Kinda like how SMB3 was the key changepoint for the 2d Mario games.

Why is Mega Man 1 so fuck hard? I was going to download at least the first three games, but I don't think I'll ever be able to finish MM1.

I remember them all as being pretty darn hard! I do think MM2 was a bit easier, which might be the reason I kept renting that one as a kid. I know everyone says 2 is their favorite, though, so maybe whatever they liked, I did too.

It should say a lot that the big publishers don't really want to put their retail eShop titles on sale like the indies and VC publishers do.
Atlus has been pretty good about it. Can't think of many (any?) others, though. Sad, because I always buy Atlus games day 1 anyway! I wish the eShop would take a lesson from the PSN.

I wouldn't really call Atlus a big publisher. They don't really have much of anything on the Wii U eShop either.
Oops! Thought I was in the 3DS thread. True on the latter, and on the former, yeah, not a giant company by any means, just not "indie".

Here are the new deals for this week:

Mario Bros - $3.49 - 30% Off - Ends 12/5

Super Mario Bros. - $3.49 - 30% Off - Ends 12/5

Super Mario Bros. 2 - $3.49 - 30% Off - Ends 12/5

Super Mario World - $5.59 - 30% Off - Ends 12/5

Yeah, as much as I whine, Super Mario World is one of the best games ever made, and everyone should buy it, without question.  I had it on the Wii already.

Heck, even Super Mario Bros. 2 is a neat game, though not really a Mario game.  They are definitely both a steal at these prices.  I did buy SMB2.  Just annoying I can't have it on 3DS as well without buying it twice.  :)

This is sort of off-topic, but I found playing SMW on my Wii through my HDTV that there is some lag.  At first I thought, hmm, the old Mario games have lag and the new ones (I'd been playing NSMB2 on 3DS) don't.  But now on Wii U, when I play SMW on the gamepad, there is no lag.  It's just as I remembered it.

So, my TV has like a tiny tiny fraction of delay.  I also notice this because the TV's audio is behind the gamepad's audio.

This is annoying, and there doesn't seem to be any fix short of buying a new TV (which I need anyway but won't be able to afford for 3 years).  My TV does not have a "game" mode or anything like that.  It's a SONY TV, too.  Come on, Sony.  You have a games division.

It really only seems to matter with old games, though, the kind designed to be played on tube TVs with no input lag.  (But the audio lag matters and happens on all Wii U games.)

Is there any way to use my $5+ in Wii eshop credit to buy a Wii U VC game? I want SMW if I can use money already on my system (and don't want to pay more to buy on Wii then upgrade fee).

It should get applied automatically.

Edit: Unless you're talking about just the regular Wii Shop points, which are stuck on the Wii Shop.

Here are the new deals for this week:

Super Mario World - $5.59 - 30% Off - Ends 12/5
I am thankful for Nintendo putting this game on sale (and thankful for you posting this, FriskyTanuki)! This was the one game I wanted when Nintendo announced this week of Mario deals. Though I guess it wouldn't make sense for Super Mario World to NOT to go on sale when Super Mario 3D World just came out last week.

Super Mario World is one of the best games ever made, and everyone should buy it, without question.
This is my favorite Mario game of all time. I never had a SNES, but I would always play SMW nonstop whenever I went over my cousin's house as a kid. I ended up getting the GBA version of the game and completing it with 400+ lives on my save file. I still have my GBA cart somewhere, but that won't stop me from downloading the eShop version and experiencing one of my favorite games on the Wii U for the first time.

If I'm understanding your question correctly, technically there isn't. Wii eShop credit only works on the Wii eShop, whether through a Wii or a Wii U in compatibility mode. HOWEVER, you could buy Super Mario World on the Wii eShop on your Wii U, then go back to Wii U mode and spend $1.50 to get the Wii U version. You would be losing money doing this considering it's on sale on the Wii U for $3.50, though...

I wish that Wii eShop credit just moved to the Wii U eShop and that you could use your Wii U eShop credit to buy Wii games in compatibility mode. Cause I'm gonna have $2.00 or something stuck on the Wii eShop for all eternity give you can only put money in $5 at a time and NES and SNES games are like $5.00 and $7.00 I think.

Anyway, if I'm wrong, I would be really happy. :)

My favorite, too. :) I never played the GBA version, but I sure played the SNES one, and later played it on the Wii VC. It's neat on the gamepad. (Wish the gamepad had better range, though!)

What DK sale?
Mega Man was last week, Mario is this week, Donkey Kong is next week. Expect more tepid discounts on stuff you already have or don't really want. :)

But if the Game Boy Donkey Kong is on discount, everyone NEEDS to buy that. (Although that's 3DS, and this is the Wii U thread, sorry)

It's mind blowing that Nintendo is so out of touch with how these things work nowadays. Lack of sales, high prices, lack of games on 3DS and Wii U eShops compared to the Wii's VC, mediocre online, friend codes, etc etc etc

I just don't get it. Why not make the Wii's VC 100% compatible with the Wii U and 3DS? One game purchase works on all 3. Simple as that. I've really stopped caring about Nintendo...modded my Wii, returned my Wii U, and I only buy 3DS games through Amazon when I have enough credit from Bing rewards. They are seriously so far behind..

/rant.

I still care since they seem to make games I actually like (where as PS4 and Xbone have zero I'm interested in), but yeah.  I really don't get it.

There may be some technical limitations which prevented just moving the Wii VC over to the Wii U, but it's still baffling.

Now having an ambassador 3ds, I am disappointed with this week's sales.  For those who dont have it yet, donkey kong is still one of my favorite 8-bit games of all time.  Wii U or 3ds, you should get it.  The other DK's on sale... meh.

The new deal for today:

Mega Man X - $2.00 - 75% Off - Ends 12/18
Oh nice, I'll pick this up.

So, I have 700 points in the Wii shop, but no idea what to get. I want an SNES game, but I'm just short. Plus, I hate having to go into Wii mode and only use Wiimote accessories to play. So, it looks like my only option is to get an NES game and upgrade to a Wii U version?

Mega Man X is one of the best Mega Man games ever.  Maybe the best.  Hmmmm.

Anyway, Wii Mode isn't that bad!  You can always sit somewhere else, plug in your classic controller into the Wiimote, and play that way.  That's how I do it, at least.  Or just play on the TV and pretend it's a Wii.  I agree it's a pain in the bum.  I have 700 points left, too.  Why can't they just combine the Wii Shop with the eShop?  There are a ton of NES, SNES and Genesis games I still want.  *cue my rant of "why didn't they just carry the Wii VC over to the Wii U???*
