I think I'm going to get Dr. Mario and Dr. Luigi. I might pick up Game & Wario at Best Buy since it's the same price and I have GCU. LOL at Nintendo pretending that is some "deal". Any thoughts on it? Worth $24?

just beat metroid fusion on my phone, really cool game, but I had to turn on cheat codes since a phone is not a controller. Otherwise I'd grab it for sure, OG metroid fans who have not played it for some reason should take the plunge.

Wonderful 101 is $24 for physical at bestbuy.com.  has been for a while.

will probably have to get dr mario and luigi, since I overbought during the bestbuy 20% off card sale and haven't seen much to use it on since the holiday sales.

I picked up Dr Mario for $5 then Dr Luigi for the discounted $10 price afterwards. I had been waiting for any kind of discount at all. This isn't the best deal in the world but it's basically Dr Mario free. I also got Metroid Fusion and Mario and Luigi RPG game.

Any opinions on Blok Drop U for $1 or advanced wars?

I noticed that deals tab, but couldn't tell what their normal price was.

If I buy these and my WiiU breaks, will I be able to get them on a new WiiU or would they be lost forever like games bought on the Wii?
Club Nintendo is your failsafe now. If you link your CN account to your Wii U/3DS, all digital purchases are registered. And with all games now tied to NNID instead of directly to the hardware itself, it is now possible to re-obtain your games if your system is lost/stolen. Still not a perfect system, but at least there is now a failsafe.

If your system breaks, send it into Nintendo. If they fix it, great, if not, they'll transfer your games to your new system. If your system is out of warranty or is stolen, you can contact Nintendo and request that your NNID be deactivated from the old hardware. After you have obtained a new system, contact them and request your NNID be reactivated again. After that you will be able to go to the eShop and re-download all your previous purchases.

Yes, it's a bit of a hassle compared to other consoles, but again, at least there IS a failsafe now with Club Nintendo and games no longer linked to the hardware, but rather your NNID.

What about all the games I purchased on 3DS before NNID was even so much as a fart in the Japanese wind from Iwata's puckery anus? I hope they're linked to my NNID as well, but it seems like old purchases are still linked to the system, not the NNID.

References? When you link your NNID to a console, it seems like they link everything from that console to your NNID, hence the need to contact Nintendo before you link your NNID to another console.

I was about to buy Mario and Luigi superstar saga but realized I havent even finished mega man X, or a link to the past and still am waiting for sale to buy earthbound. I started a link to the past today and it seems like a great game, I just finished the first stage where you find zelda in the basement, that took me about 30 minutes. I am wondering how long this game takes to complete. Thanks!

I am so jealous of you playing this the first time. Enjoy it.

Advanced wars? Great game, strategy game with utilization of rock/paper/scissors in combat. Medium length, good story IMHO. At $7.99 it's not bad, but for nostagia, i'd rather play it on my gba. O:)

Off topic, but for anyone who hasn't seen footage yet, Mario Kart is gorgeous.  Sweet lil_baby_jesus, look at dat....!

ibynghr3XcBxlF.gif

Anyway, I'm getting a Wii U. This has finally pushed me over. Probably going to go for that refurbished $200 unit directly from Nintendo. Wish I hadn't missed out on the Runner discount a few weeks ago.

How do u know dat?

A Link to the Past is not a terribly long game. I would say 10-15 hours, depending upon how often you get stuck, how well you tolerate difficulty and frustration. I've been playing it for 20 years or more (22?), so it's hard to estimate. Some of those dungeons still make me want to throw the sofa through the window even today.

PS If you're waiting for a sale on Earthbound, you are probably never going to get it. :) If everyone purchased it, we'd get the sequel! (Empty Promise #485. Good time to say "References?" :) )

It's a minigame compilation crapped out to earn a quick buck. And I wouldn't even say it's a good one, at least NintendoLand was.

Based on what I played I think $10 is the sweet spot for Game and Wario, but honestly I doubt it'll ever hit that. I guess if you are a minigame fanatic and have played NintendoLand to death go for it?

Take it from somebody who knows and has tried..... this doesn't work. I've copy/pasted my story on this site several times (and I think in this very thread lol) so I won't do it again but suffice it to say that, even if you follow Nintendo's instructions to the letter, they don't seem willing to restore shit on a stolen system (and yes, everything was registered on CN). What Nintendo claims they'll do and what they actually do are two different things :???:

You can google and see similar stories, including one I remember about some guy named Jeremy (I thinK?) with connections on Kotaku who was also refused when his system died and he wanted his games restored. It was only after the story was published on a major site that Nintendo had a sudden change of heart and decided to fix this "misunderstanding" and restored everything (obviously they don't like bad press lol).

..... it really doesn't look that good to me :???: Though I can't argue with some of the pre-order deals I've seen for this game, I've already got my pre-order locked in :p

really looks amazing, and 1080p at 60fps for split screen? at least for 2player

i am not a graphics whore, game could have looked like mario kart 7 or exactly like the arcade gp for all i care, but

has any other console even achieved this before? will they ever?

i know dk came close at native 720p upscaled to 1080p and 60fps, but its still wii u

I'm pretty sure Super Stardust HD and Wipeout HD on the PS3 did 1080p 60 FPS way back in 2007.
haha my fanboyism showed for a little bit there,

it looks ok, may 30th?, meh, i can wait.

anyway i'm sure this has gotten brought up before but, dual destinies? does any expect this to ever go on sale? or will we get another eshop card sale from best buy before then?

Seems like a sizable chunk of the first party titles eShop wise from 2013 and older have gone on sale. I will wait for the newer titles(LoZ: Link to the Past/Ice Hockey) to drop before I buy em. Judging from the past, won't be long before they go on sale. Same mentality I'll take with GBA games. They'll go on sale eventually. I'm more comfortable with paying less than $8 for GBA games honestly. What can I say, I'm a CAG!!

Last edited by a moderator:
They have? :/ I don't recall many VC-related sales.
Off the top of my head, there have been Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong themed sales previously. So that's a good chunk there plus the Deluxe promotion of 30 cent games. Those same games have been appearing as the Wii U VC title of the month on Club Nintendo so people have had ample opportunities to get them on sale. So not ALL 1st party, I admit. But a good chunk. I'll edit my original post to reflect that

I wouldn't count Club Nintendo free games as a game going on sale. Also, there is a handy Google Doc in the OP that shows what has been on sale on the eShop.

Really wish I didn't buy dr luigi when it first came out ugh I thought before dr mario released there were rumors that those that already owned dr luigi would be the one getting the discount on dr mario

Honestly, would you actually play Dr. Mario? I thought about getting the combo but realistically I would probably play the NES game once or twice and then never touch it again (aka balooon fight and Yoshi).

Yeah, I'm not into this deal. If I could have Dr. Mario on 3DS, I might play it there, but I doubt I'll play it on Wii U, especially if I had Dr. Luigi. I wish I could just have Dr. Luigi on 3DS instead.

Side scrollers and racers are a lot different than a game with multiple (dozens) human players at different locations on the planet playing a game with lots of things blowing up on screen all over the place.

I wanted a deal on Dr. Luigi before buying it. This qualifies as that even though I'm only a little interested in actually having Dr. Mario. Two for the price of one is certainly better than one for the price of one. Who knows, maybe some day they'll create a real account system.

Man, I have been corrected very easily by Frisky LOL About half of the 1st party Wii U VC titles have gone on sale. Seems like more, but the numbers are right there. Perhaps I should read the OP more often............

The real shame is that they only released five non-VC titles in the first year or so and even then, one of them has been on sale with that requiring purchase of a VC title to get it.

Anyway, I'm getting a Wii U. This has finally pushed me over. Probably going to go for that refurbished $200 unit directly from Nintendo. Wish I hadn't missed out on the Runner discount a few weeks ago.
I think a better deal would be to get the mario bundle from target next week when it comes with a $50GC. If you have a target card, that is $285 +$50GC for NEW and comes with better games than the refurb with nintendoland.

Any idea when BB is gonna do a eShop card sale?
They've had 3 in the last 4 months... not sure if that is going to happen any time soon given the frequency. But perhaps, that's the same logic that would work against me. In any case, there have been several opportunities in the last few months.

Ugh.... I have around $200 in eshop credit and I honestly wonder if I'll ever use half of it. And that's not even from these sales.....

And like others have said, I'd hardly count the Dr. Mario nonsense as a sale, or at least as a worthwhile sale. Who is gonna spend any time with Dr. Mario at all when they bought Dr. Luigi? Who does Nintendo think they are fooling with this?

It's comparable to that time a local shop gave out free copies of Link's Awakening to everyone who bought Link's Awakening DX :whistle2:? But at least you could sale/trade-in/gift the copy of LA. Can't even do any of that with Dr. Mario.

It's a shame too, cause I was mildly interested in Dr. Luigi. Not $15 interested (not when I still have Dr. Mario RX on my Wii) but would've been willing to pay $5, hell maybe even $10 for the "new mode" and to keep playing online. Hell, I'd even consider gifting somebody else a copy of Dr. Mario if it meant I could get Dr. Luigi for $10. But no, none of those seem to be options. I'd rather just buy a couple of retail games digitally.

Oh well.......

Yeah I'm spending most my credit on Mario Kart 8 (digital) and Smash Bros (digital) and may even pick up the 3DS version of Smash Bros if it turns out solid enough.  Don't expect any of those game to go on sale anytime soon and I'll definitely get my money's worth with the amount of time spent playing them. If these GBA games ever go on sale or have some sort of special I'll definitely pick up a few. Might just splurge on Yoshi's Island later this month just cause.

would love to buy the GBA games... but at 7.99 T_T
I thought that too, but I've also changed the way I play games now. I don't buy to just have a game ready to go, I only buy to play and beat. So if I'm going to sit down and beat Advance Wars, it will be worth $8.

If old me bought it and Metroid and Mario and Luigi in the same day I'd never get around to all 3 of them before yet another game got my attention. Then I'd feel it was $8 down the drain.

Speaking of advance wars, does anybody know if there were 2 different releases of the game with different difficulties? I can't find any selectable difficulty on it. I got to some level that is impossible, but all the online walkthroughs explain it with less enemies on the map and instructions that won't win, and it's clear it's not the same as what I'm playing.

What? No, it's free DLC for Sonic Lost World

zdlc03011395789310jpg-0a58bc.jpg

That is awesome, need to download that.

New Releases:

Advance Wars - GBA - $7.99

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga - GBA - $7.99

Metroid Fusion - GBA - $7.99
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Nintendo just doesn't get pricing this stuff. Sure lots of people will probably buy it still but at $8 vs $5 I would have to imagine you're losing a good chunk of sales. I know personally I'm not spending $8 on any of those even knowing their high quality and wanting to revisit them. At $5, maybe even $6, I would impulse purchse all of them and anything else I remember being good or missed at the time. Instead I'm not buying any of them.

The GBA games would be more tempting if Nintendo wasn't trying to mirror the 3DS ambassador games. Bit on M&L regardless.
Are they trying to? Metroid Fusion is the only one mirrored so far. M&L was definitely not an ambassador one (I wish, because I'd much rather play it on 3DS--still don't get this whole GBA on Wii U thing).

How weird! Are you sure you're not looking at a FAQ for Advance Wars DS? That's the only thing I can think of. This should be the original GBA release. Maybe the FAQ is for the Japanese version? But youd probably have noticed if you were looking at a FAQ for the old Japanese version or for the newer DS version. That's a mystery.

Not technically a sale but there have been a couple of great pre-order deals for Mario Kart 8. That's one of very few titles I'd have considered getting digitally (if only because I have so much credit and nothing to spend it on) but some of these deals were too good to pass up.

Besides, now if I ever meet anybody else who owns a WiiU I can play multiplayer at their place without lugging around my console + gamepad + controllers :D/

Yeah I don't think I'm going to find the games cheaper than $35.xx which is how much the games are going to cost me after those Best Buy eshop deals (stacked up a ton of discounted credit during the bonus $15 for $100 promo week) and the Wii U ddp cash back.

Down the line if I ever find a deal on a physical copy of the games I might just double dip since MK and Smash are the type of games worth having on the console at all times.

Ducktales: Remastered is half off this week ($7.50). As we knew already, Kirby and Wario Ware were added to the Gameboy Advance VC ($7 each). And some game called My Exotic Farm is released. I initially read that as My Erotic Farm and my mind started going all sorts of strange places.
