The no cross-buy for Nintendo platforms makes me wary to pick up most virtual console games, as they'll never live beyond that current platform's lifespan.

can someone please explain this No cross-buy and what it means.
I'm guessing that "cross-buy" means that if you buy the game on one console, you have to pay a second time to get it on another, e.g. if you buy the WiiU version of SMB3, you do not automatically get SMB3 on your 3DS for free.

Cross Buy is buying one version of a game in an ecosystem, like SMB3 on Wii U or Wii, and being able to get the other versions at no extra cost. When people point out the lack of Cross Buy on Nintendo's eShops, they lament the fact that you have to pay for each version of the same game separately since it would encourage people to own both a 3DS and Wii U and wouldn't essentially put the two systems at war with each other in terms of where you might spend your money.

Yeah. No cross buy is the reason why I haven't bought any VC games. I'm real tempted to pick up Punch-Out on 3DS but no Mike Tyson is a bummer (yeah, I know they can't use him)...

They need to call him or something. It can't possible be that expensive to put Mike Tyson in a game.

They don't want him. He was in the game originally, briefly, until Nintendo decided he was a little unsavory for their image. Then boom, he was gone, just like that.

Cross buy would be really nice, but... Nintendo hasn't even really caught on to the DLC thing yet, and i HATE their account system where if your Wii U dies or you want to buy a special edition, you can't get your Nintendo ID back without sending your old unit to Nintendo.

Shrug :D Good price on 3D World though! Love that game... so much fun as a party game lol

Yup, here's a full list of games for each week. Only know the prices for this week, so the remaining will be revealed as each week comes up.

Week 1
Posted above

Week 2
Legend of Zelda Minish Cap
Mega Man X

Week 3
Metroid
Pokémon Rumble U
Wii Fit U

Week 4
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Pikmin 3
PacMan & the Ghostly Adventures

I plan on getting Minish Cap next week. Can't Wait!!!!
I call BS on this. This is completely omitting a large amount of the Smash characters bring advertised within the sale like the Fire Emblem characters.

It's from Nintendo's site, so it's definitely not BS. This is probably an incomplete list, though, given the # of games that are on sale this week already.

What do you mean by ''Nintendo hasn't even really caught on to the DLC thing yet''? So far, they have done DLC the way its suppose to be (Hyrule warriors being the exception)...

if that really us the rest of the sales nothing for me to pickup. have about 10 dollars in eshop credit left and just waiting for the right gba game to show up.

That's what he was saying. That other guy was claiming that it was a complete list, which is utterly ridiculous for the exact reason that Wazzup mentioned.

That one doesn't have an external power supply. It seems a little overpriced, too.

But actually, I think just about any USB 2.0 hard drive will work. If it doesn't have an external power supply, you should be fine connecting it to the Wii U with a USB Y-cable (meaning one end plugs into the HDD and the other end splits to plug into two of the Wii U USB ports). It should have plenty of power that way. But yeah, you need one or the other, either external power or a Y-cable. That provided, anything USB 2.0 or above should work just fine.

The list posted is just including the WiiU games, that's why there's not any Fire Emblem in it.

Plus, we know that the list isn't complete because it doesn't have Kirby on it and the last week's sale is supposed to include Kirby.

The list that Nintendo put out was clearly incomplete and even lacked games from this week while stating that it was a preview.

As has been said before, Nintendo is putting a number of games on sale each week that are tied to various characters in the current Super Smash Bros. lineup. Some have been officially confirmed in the second link, but the first link has way more characters than are represented in the preview. So I made a list of all possible games on the 3DS and Wii U eShops that could relate to these characters:

I was thinking of that but i heard that people had trouble with flash drives and wound up wasting money.
From Nintendo's website:

10. Can I use a Flash/Thumb drive as an external storage device?

  • Because these devices have a limited number of rewrites and are not suited to long-term storage of important game data, we do not recommend the use of Flash/thumb drives as an external storage device solution. For best results, we recommend using a hard drive with its own power supply that connects to the Wii U via the USB port on the console.
  • Commercial Flash memory has a limit on the number of times you can write over it and we don't recommend flash memory devices for long-term storage of important save data.

A flash drive is like $10 or less now you could just replace it every 2 years and you would be good. Mine works fine on the Wii u. I have also heard of people having trouble with hard drives on the Wii u.

Probably because they are using a bus powered HDD, which Nintendo recommends against. Using a USB Y cable fixes the issue, which can be found on Amazon for little as $3-4.

USB 2.0:

USB 3.0:

There is a new 3ds coming out with a new type of game that the current models won't play, I wouldn't buy any 3ds right now.
