Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Played a little Black OG Xbox using my disc copy last night and it played surprising well.

Besides the install time about 10-15 minutes. The game looked better and the load times were basically non-existent.

It funny how far FPS games have come since. It was a cool trip down memory lane.

I also installed Price of Persia Sands of Time but didn't try it.

This is a very cool feature for Xbox and I hope people take full advantage of it.

Comparison video for KotOR on all three consoles. Seeing the 360 footage I think this was the better running of the two KotORs, which tells you just how badly the other ran.

Would KOTOR hold up for someone today who has no nostalgia for it?  I guess I would have the same question for almost any of the OG Xbox BC games coming out.

Depends on how much you love Bioware games and/or how much you love Star Wars. I think it's more likely to hold up than FPS or platformers where controls and camera / action stuff has evolved so much. KOTOR is a lot of menu-based combat in 3D space and decision-making across conversations. It will feel dated but I think after 5-10 hours you won't care.

A digital discount on Friday the 13th game would be nice. They missed an opportunity to do that on Oct 13 if you ask me. Could’ve been a 1 day sale! Come on!

Production on the Kinect has officially ceased.

Man.

I remember when I bought the Xbox One a few years ago. It was shortly after they announced the cheaper, non-Kinect version.

I decided to spend the extra 100 dollars for the Kinect version, since I didn't want to feel like I was missing out. I figured if I'm going to spend 300 bux on a next-gen console, i might as well get the best version there is for an extra 100.

Three years later, the only time I've ever used it was to play Dance Central Spotlight; a game that I didn't like at all.

But my damn Kinect saw me walk by while my wife was playing it and auto-signed me in and immediately unlocked an achievement on my profile.

Now I had a game with 1 lousy freaking achievement unlocked. A normal person might not have cared. I - on the other hand - then had to 100 percent the game to keep my completion percentage high.

That is what the Kinect means to me. A 100 dollar "premium" waste of money that forced me to play a Dancing game.

It really comes down to the individual. Games these days spoil us with graphics and customization options. Going into an older game without having never played it can be incredibly jarring unless you are able to somehow separate yourself from today's technology and imagine what it was like initially all those years ago.

I personally think that there are too many games from this (and last) generation that I haven't touched to want to go back that far, and that's even with me having played it when it came out.

On the flip side, it's probably the best Star Wars game ever made so if you're a fan you owe it to yourself from that perspective.

Kinect is also good if you want to do a family chat with others via Skype in your living room.

You can use webcams but Kinect has a nice range for larger rooms and multiple people.

If you're a Star Wars fan then yes you should definitely play KOTOR. It's probably not the best point to try and enter the Star Wars universe if you're not already into it as the game is dependent on understanding some of the lore in advance. For example, you should probably know what the Old Republic is and when it occurred. As far as game play it's an action RPG. You collect force powers, level up, and become a more powerful Jedi / Sith. There's also a decent sorry line. All in all I think it ages well. But then I wouldn't bat an eyelash if you offered me a chance to play that arcade polygon Star Wars game, especially cockpit style.

The big deciding factor on KotOR would probably be its turn based combat. It actually uses the 3.5(?) Dungeons and Dragon's basic ruleset under the hood, because of Bioware's familiarity from their previous games, as does Dragon Age: Origins.

If you like Bioware's other games you'll probably like it as this was really the first that is in the current mold, other than a non-voice-acted protagonist. If you like Star Wars, its story is help up as one of the best in the EU, and it's just on the verge of being canon as Clone Wars referenced it a couple times and was slated to have Revan appear.

I've never really understood these mindset. How do you explain the popularity of retro inspired games in the indie scene then? If you want talk about graphics being bad, combine it with your second point. Maybe you don't want to but plenty of people go back and play the big name classics of the older generations. Metal Gear Solid 1, the PS1 Resident Evil games, Ocarina of time, these all look terrible by modern standards.

I mean, only if you consider it being the greatest story in the history of Star Wars and one of the best narratives in a turn-of-the-century role-playing game as 'decent' then, yeah, I'd agree....
Correction. It's a great Star Wars story line. If you're not a Star Wars fan well ... You're probably less than great.

Personally I think Force Unleashed ended up having a great plot and was canon until Disney took over. LucasArts spent a solid 6 months developing the plot alone before they started any actual game development, and the ending explains some of the origins of the Rebel Alliance. It also does a good job of fitting into existing storylines without altering them - much like Rogue One, if you hate it, you can just ignore it.

KOTOR's plot is definitely deeper, though, although it's been many years and I don't remember much.

KOTOR also has the benefit of being so far removed from the plot of the films for being so far in the past that nothing feels forced (no pun intended). They could just tell whatever story they wanted.

Thought I’d reiterate my opinion that NGB — other than the camera — holds up amazingly well. Controls wonderfully, still rules ultra fast combat and looks downright fantastic for its age and whatever magic they worked in the BC porting.

Also, I am playing under a Game Pass trial and noticed that the X1 games in it have that discount if you were to buy them. Guessing that doesn’t apply to 360 and now OG game in the program?

When it comes to star wars games I have always loved the x-wing fighter pilot games.

X-wing vs. Tie Fighter
Rogue Squadron 3D
Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader
Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike

But I think I played those all on PC.

Oh and the Jedi Knight Outcast games. Why were those so hard to get a hold of and why did the price stay so high for so long?

God I’d love to see a new Rogue Squadron game.

Well, I was speaking to if someone had truly never played the game. And maybe you are too, but I disagree that there are that many people that frequently go back and play older games for the VERY first time. I play old games all the time but it's stuff I've had and played for years so I have a connection to it. I probably shouldn't have stressed graphics that much since Minecraft is proof that means nothing if the gameplay is appealing. Same for all the indie stuff. But the gap between 3D games from that era and now vs 2D sidescrolling or metroidvania style games is much greater and why I do believe it can be pretty jarring if you truly have no idea what to expect.

And even indie games that arent retro inspired. For example, the graphics of the Mount & Blade games mostly look more dated than KOTOR and it doesnt keep loads of people from enjoying those games. Imo, gameplay is usualy the biggest factor in peoples enjoyment of games and many older games are still pretty fun, while others can feel outdated and clunky.

I loved all the Rogue Squadron games, and the Gamecube games still look amazing. I replayed Rogue Leader after modding my Wii U, and it looks incredible over HDMI.

Are the Xbox games, Starfighter and Jedi Starfighter, any good? I never played them but heard they were spiritual sequels to the Rogue Squadron games. Unfortunately, games that take place during I-III automatically hurt my interest in them.

Huge spoiler here man.

I'm not saying a majority of people play old games like this, hell the majority doesn't even play more than 4 or so games a year, but plenty of people do go back and play old games, just like people go back to old movies/tv/books/music. I think the majority of people that are specifically going to use this feature are not going in with absolutely no idea what to expect, except maybe those checking out Ninja Gaiden Black through GamePass or if one of these games becomes GWG.

I would hope they don't become GWG unless they are in addition to the four per month.

I played Starfighter and thought it was awful. I wouldn’t call it a spiritual successor lol

I too barely played any prequel games but I do remember enjoying the pod racing game on N64.

I really loved all the X-wing games. Playing the campaign, joining a squad and playing online, tournaments, playing custom missions. I was deep in it.

Tomorrow's fortnite update is huge for both Battle Royale and Save the World. Leaderboards, skins, seasonal rewards, daily challenges + more for BR. You can also use the PVE currency to buy skins in PVP. Devs have been awesome so far with updates, BR launched on Sept. 26th and they've added/fixed a ton already.

If this isn't allowed just let me know. I'm looking to pass off my preorder for my Scorpio Edition XB1X. Looking to get cost plus shipping & paypal fees. I have it in the trading forums as well.

Then it sounds like we pretty much feel the same way, as I was only talking about a very specific scenario.

Figured I would ask here as I've seen it mentioned from time to time. Does the original Mass Effect get better? I'm trying to play through the original trilogy but I'm just not really enjoying Mass Effect 1. I'm about 3 hours or so in.

A lot of great changes in the update, just about everything I wanted. I hope you can earn the V-Bucks in BR mode, but I'm not really complaining if not.

The story gets more interesting, and combat is a bit more fun as you unlock more abilities. A lot of ME's enjoyment comes from the interactions with your squad and the consequences of your various decisions.

A lot of people prefer the style of ME 2 and 3 more, they really tightened up the shooter gameplay and the huge free-roaming areas with the Mako basically are gone until Andromeda. You probably still want to finish the first no matter what to transfer your character.

If by better do you mean do you get to drive up steeper hills like a Spider-buggy everywhere? Then yes. Yes you do,

Gameplay or story? Gameplay doesn’t get better (its aged pretty badly) but the story does improve.

I can’t exactly remember where you would be 3 hours in but the “second half” of the game is a huge improvement imo. Stick with it.

I felt the same exact way, stopped playing it, and watched a playthrugh on Youtube so I can move on and try Mass Effect 2 aka a better game
even though I got the worst ending thinking I was playing good enough to let someone (especially the characters I used the most) live.

I haven't played Mass Effect 3 yet.

I don't know what game I want to play next, to be honest. I was told Gun and Dante's Inferno would be good. Then I thought maybe the sequel to Halo 2 would be fun, or the first Black Ops game.

Stop laughing at me, Backlog.

Whoa, now I suddenly want to know what Mass Effect on Xbox One X will play like.  ...Probably rock-solid 30fps, quick loading, reduced pop-in...

I'm at work, and I'm drooling.  This is inappropriate.  HR will not be happy.

The planet exploration doesn't get better. Its a slog. The story does pick up and story missions are a lot of fun. The last mission to me at least felt like a good pay off for everything you had done till then. I had skipped it and went straight to ME2 then went back recently but I can see the experience being better if you play ME1 first.

Sonic Forces has a 3 level demo on Switch in Japan. One level each from Modern, Classic, and created character, but they only give you 60 seconds on each, which is not enough to beat any of them. The Modern level is a straight line simulator with what seems like a lot of spoken dialogue, the Classic level is a boss fight so you don't get much of a feel, and the Creator level seems weird because you have to attack with a melee weapon that totally kills your momentum.

To be fair the Creator levels might still be good as long as they design around the abilities well, but the demo level just seemed like Modern Sonic levels. The story trailer showed a bunch of characters from previous games, including Chaos from Adventure and the Chaotix.

I hope the game is good but the demo does not give a good impression. This is going to get annihilated by Odyssey.
