This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

So perhaps now you can start referring to it as the Xbox One instead of Xbone?
Why do you ask? I usually go by X1 or Xbone just as I went with 360 for the Xbox 360
Because it was created as a derogatory stance towards Microsoft and with how well they've turned around and supported their community, I really don't see why people still use the term. It's the same thing when I read Microsoft typed out as M$ as in any other company out there isn't trying to turn a profit and you know be a business.

I just saw Ridge Racer Unbounded got an even more impressive deal on the European marketplace, for European standards anyway: 3.74 Euros. At that price, there is absolutely no reason to miss it. The powerful track editor alone is worth that price.

I first started playing FIFA when I wasn't a big soccer fan, which did slowly become an acquired taste and now I'm hooked. Soccer's rules are much more simple than say NFL or NHL's, so even if you haven't got a clue you'll get used to it fast. The controls are fairly easy and can be changed to your liking: if you want, you can have all kind of helps from the game like semi-automatic directioning in passes and shots, automatic player switching (obviously you control one at a time, the others move by AI), and so on. The default settings are easy enough, and are useable online as well, albeit some game modes will require you specific options (such as Seasons mode requiring the tactical defense, which is a multi-button function which allows you great liberty in defending, rather than holding A and let the player do the rest, pretty much). There are many, MANY tricks and ballgames you can do: moving the barrier "illegaly" during free kicks, intentionally grabbing an opponent's shirt, all kinds of crazy stuff you'd only see in FIFA Street (that you can only perform with the best players and with button combos that can be complicated), but frankly, unless you are planning to go pro, you can basically live by knowing how to pass, shoot and defend, plus a couple details on using these actions better. If you're a true CAG and want to go cheap (and you're on X360), you could also go for FIFA 13: you can likely find it for less than 10$ nowadays (or more if you're planning to use Xbox credits), it's got nearly everything FIFA 14 does, its servers are still up and running with still thousands of players playing it regularly, and you don't risk buying something fairly expensive that may not even be of your liking. But I think it could be: it's made in a way that you can find challenges even if you've been pro in the past 10 FIFA games, and even if this is your first attempt at playing a soccer videogame.
Thanks man for that thorough response. I appreciate it.

I don't understand why anyone thinks that the term XBone is derogatory. It's just an abbreviation in the same way that PS is an abbreviation of PlayStation. What in God's name is so demeaning or derogatory about the word "Bone"? Bone was even the title and lead character's name in a great comic book series. I have 206 bones in my body. There is nothing bad about the word "Bone" and to ascribe some sort of derogatory connotation is just silly. If we were calling it the XBoner then I could understand where you're coming from but no one does that.

Also, just a side note here that I'll put in a spoiler box to avoid a text wall:
Microsoft hasn't turned around to support their community because they care about their community. Microsoft looked at the sales figures and forecasts, saw that Sony was way ahead of them and then made strategic business choices. Microsoft is a business like any other business.

But let's be clear here, Microsoft doesn't care about you or the community. Microsoft cares about ensuring business growth and stability. It's that simple. The problem is that unlike other businesses in this sector (Sony, Nintendo, Steam, etc), Microsoft has shown that it actually wants to do a lot of damage to the way that you and I play videogames and even own videogames. If Microsoft cared about the community why wouldn't they go and improve the Xbox 360 so that it could handle larger storage as that's clearly become a problem with hardened Xbox 360 players? If Microsoft cared about the community why wouldn't they allow for the open use of hard drives in their systems like Sony does? Why wouldn't Microsoft change their policy on indie games to allow for any game to launch on another system first and then go to a MS system? Just because Microsoft has changed a few of their dumb policies doesn't give them a free pass. They have a considerable amount of dumb policies still in place. I am a rabid MS user and only own a Xbox 360 so please don't think I'm a fan boy of any other company.

So I know nothing about soccer but I have some Xbox credit expiring in a couple of months. The reviews on FIFA 14 are positive but how is it for those not familiar with soccer?
Download the FIFA 14 demo and check it out, that's probably the best way of judging if you'll like the game or not.

I'm a huuuuuuuuge soccer fan so my opinion may be biased, but it's super easy to pick up and play. You can customize your controllers from 2-button (you only worry about moving, shooting and passing, direction and speed are handled by AI) to super "realistic" and anywhere in between. If you've played any of EA's previous sports games, there's a variety of modes available for you to play.

There's Manager Mode (you become a manager for a team and control everything for it), Be A Pro (exactly as the name implies), FIFA Ultimate Team (basically you make your own team), Seasons (online "tournament" style game mode) and various other modes for you to enjoy.

I'd say for the price, it's very worth it due to the replay value you'll get from the game.

I don't personally find Xbone derogatory but I definitely use most of the time because I know others are bothered by it.
You are horrible people, your new profile pic makes sense now.

Bone as in bonehead move by Microsoft as it was in response to the bonehead move that Microsoft did at last year's E3 with initially requiring always on, used game restrictions, price, etc (all which have been rectified). Well since the changing of the guard I think we can say either X1 or Xbox One, seriously you can't type two more letters? To an extreme, the example Niggah, see a lot goes with just a few letters. While not as controversial it's still used as a derogative word by those that still feel crossed by Microsoft.

The Escapist: Forums: Xbone, where did it crop up?

Urban Dictionary: xbone

Why wouldn't Microsoft change their policy on indie games to allow for any game to launch on another system first and then go to a MS system? Just because Microsoft has changed a few of their dumb policies doesn't give them a free pass. They have a considerable amount of dumb policies still in place. I am a rabid MS user and only own a Xbox 360 so please don't think I'm a fan boy of any other company.
I like to call xbox one owners 'xboners' but that's just cuz I'm bitter. And a horrible person as had already been stated.

Banjo bundle for $20 would be an awesome deal for those of you waiting forever for a sale. But unless it was a temp bundle, I bet most you cheap asses still wouldn't buy it and would wait for it to go on sale.

So I'm thinking "Married" needs a side quest where our protagonist loses an in-law with Alzheimer's in a crowded mall and must find them in a set time......thoughts. :)

When talking to friends I call the XBox One either the XBone or X1 because my time is valuable and I ain't got time to waste it on one extra syllable.

XBone never made much sense. Nobody uses XB360. Everybody I know either uses 360 or X360. Why not just XO or X1? I thought the point was to make it a lot shorter, not leave out only 2 letters. Might as well start changing PS4 to PLstation 4. It is just silly.

I don't personally find Xbone derogatory but I definitely use most of the time because I know others are bothered by it.
I share this sentiment. I dont find it derogatory, but it does sound funny and gives me a chuckle. At the end of the day its MS' fault for trying to be edgy rather than simply give it an appropriately numbered moniker.

Why so Xbone?

There's no issue with the term XBone it's just a portmanteau that popularizes the linguistic fact that English speakers tend to like to refer to most things by a two syllable moniker (there's a reason why the Big Mac is called the Big Mac and why the Whopper is called the Whopper). Bringing up the N word into this discussion is completely ridiculous. We're comparing Xboxes to racism - not quite sure how those compare whatsoever. I grew up in the milieu of Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey being a huge film amongst my peers and for some reason the word "station" developed into the meaning of BS as in the film it means everything. Even today we use the term "station" as a term that means bullshit - does that mean I should take the Playstation as some sort of derogatory phrase merely because I have some incidental history with the term "station"? No. Cause that would be crazy. It's just a word - I use XBone cause I think it's a clever portmanteau. It's just that simple. I have nothing against the product and ascribe no derogatory intent to it and if you want to go ahead and do that all I can say to you is Station!

I mentioned the N word because I was showing an example when a few letters can mean all the difference. I was comparing racism, not in the slightest.

I do agree Xbox 3 would have been way better, heck when they announced the Xbox 360 I thought that was a stupid name at the time. Don't think I have to mention the elephant in the room, Wii U.

I didn't realize Katamari games were big on symmetry?
The other iterations on PS2/PS3/Vita all utilize the symmetrical analog sticks since it uses tank controls. Having off-set sticks/controls makes it harder to properly play the game. Me & My Katamari at least plays a bit better on Vita with the remapping options there.

I never found it derogatory, just funny like others have said, maybe cos English isn't my language. XO or X1 seem too generic for a reference, besides it's Microsoft fault for not giving a 'name continuity' to their brand. That's not a problem for Sony: they built their brand from PS1 to PS4, with a logical sequence easy to relate and they even used officially the acronym PS for refering to their brand (stamped in the case). Solid marketing. If Microsoft had used the expected '720' and not a fancy name we wouldn't have this conversation.

OK, I think I know what you mean.

Ugh...I'm very glad it's not the Xbox 720. I could just see the anti-fans now "it's called the Xbox 720 because it can only do 720p! Lolz!" Bad enough as is.

Id prefer that it was called X3OX in that font they do, but whatever.

And hey. Its fine that it only does 720. Cause it only does Halo, Gears of War, Sunset Overdrive (and continue to lost the rest).

If they call the next one that it will be known as Xbutt because it has butt in the name. Then I can plug my Xbone into the pass through of the Xbutt and really have a good time.
At least Sony will always be called the G**Station. (Don't wanna get banned for using the word "inappropriately")

Still, everybody knows the next Sony console will be the PS5 while nobody has a clue of the name of the next iteration of xbox. I can't express it properly but that only counts against Microsoft game brand. It gives the idea of non-related products, like they were diminishing the current one in favor of the newer (remember last E3 Mattrick statement: "Fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity, it's called xbox 360"). While Sony is perceived as a company with a goal in mind, like they were progressing building on solid grounds and following a path to develop their product. Somehow it gives safety. And that's only for using a logical way to denote the brand iterations.

I think you're reading too much into this. On the case of Wii though yeah Nintendo naming their next console the Wii U was a bad move.

The Xbox whatever is usually just referred to as Xbox, same with Playstation really. As long as Xbox is in the name, yeah Xbox Infinity would've worked.

You are probably right  Still thats Marketing 101. Anyway Xbox Infinity would have been the epitome of pretentiousness. I mean... it doesn't sound serious right? 'Hey buddy I've just bought an Infinity'

You bought a car? lol

Yeah I'm guessing you meant or autocorrect changed list to lost. To me I love the Fable games, all the Halo games, all Gears of War except the spinoff, Titanfall is hella fun and the Forza Motorsport series is car perfection bar none. I've just got into Capcom Vancouver's Dead Rising 3 now and I'm actually having more fun than I expected.

Got my $25 Gamefly copy from their latest sale and well I was skeptical, hence why I waited until this price, going in since I've had issues with DR1 and DR2 - If I don't like it I'm only out $25 instead of $50-60. DR1 had so many annoying design preferences, god that first boss fight, and they sorta fixed those with Case Zero and then Dead Rising 2 but it still felt clunky and very Japanese. DR 3 I think strikes a good balance there and making combo weapons on the fly was a HUGE step in the right direction. I mean go back to the bathroom to save, go back to the work bench to combine stuff with a small ass inventory lack of checkpoints, bleh good riddance I am not going back to the old titles even for the achievements.

Yup. Meant list. Sorry. Tapatalk blows and it won't allow me to edit already posted things. Pretty dumb.

I LOVED the Fable series but they've been slowly dropping off. Gears was great til Judgment. I loved 1 the most. 2 had the best story. I love TF. Refreshing new spin on FPS. Not a huge car gamer, but would love a new Burnout that's more like Burnout 3. DR3 is great. I 1000d it and eagerly await the dlc to hit a huge sale price.

Dead Rising 3 is a nice step in the right direction. My only hope is that DR4 continues where 3s story stopped and is a much longer story with a bigger map. No need for 4-Player coop, but it'd be cool. Plus add a proper invite system.

In terms of the spoken language, it IS shorter, two syllables vs three. I personally call the first Xbox the X1, that's why I don't use it for the new Xbox. And I dont like using "One" or "The one" because that's too pretentious and could be confusing in terms of referencing ("Hu's on first"). Although it shouldn't matter in the future because everyone's eventually just going to call it the the "Xbox" anyways. That's what they did with the 360.

I'm going to hide the continuation of Halo 4 discussion in here if people want to chime in:
I get you didn't like the turn of Halo 4. Yes there are cons to Halo 4, many folks believe it's another CoD pancake, some don't like the story. We all have different tastes. IMHO Halo 4 is the best. Although I was kinda down that 343 took away the vastness of the game: no more gigantic landshaft and fields to explore; the grand feel of scifi universe was not there. Developers had narrowed things, they scoped in on environments and made it more focused action adventure.
I like the change, and one of them Cortana becoming emotional AI. "whining and crying" that my dear CAG is a drama, and drama complements the package. I'm talking about the emotional aspect. Also, yes the "romantic love-dovey stuff" make Halo 4's story a very appealing one (romantic shard is something that players can relate to "guy wants to protect a girl"). And Chief has emotions despite being a tin knight, having a macho voice and strength+ incredible luck does not make him a lesser human. We see he is human as well.
I'm not saying he doesn't have emotion. In fact my previous post stated that he had emotion. But he didn't express this level of emotion in every single goddamn line because he knew what had to be done. I like the subtlety in the previous games; for example, that scene where he finds Cortana in halo 3, brilliant. He showed emotion without exploding into tears. In Halo 4, every line of dialogue was filled with blatant emotion, almost like they're trying to force feelings upon the player. They're shoving the goddamned love interest in your face, almost as if you hadn't played anything in the fucking series before. Yeah, I get the "damsel in distress" and drama kind of thing; it drives a lot of games (and gamers to finish them), but they didn't need to turn Halo 4 into a freaking telenovela to do so. Now I'm expecting the Didact to somehow impregnate Chief and out pops a human Cortana equivalent.

If you want a real life comparison, it's like helping a random stranger who's constantly crying vs helping a friend who looks sad. In the former, that person's in your vicinity and forcing you to deal with the issue (either comfort or ignore a stranger) while in the latter, you feel compelled to help your friend because you don't like your friends being sad.

If they has toned down the frequency, I wouldn't mind it so much, but being constantly berated/reminded by "Navi" made me hate the Cortana and Chief relationship by the end of 4. It's sort of why I hate the "Cortana echoes" in Halo 3. That, and because they didn't really make sense on a technological level.

But opinions are opinions. I just want to justify my qualification about how 343 fucked up Halo for me. We have yet to see anything for Halo 5 other than that trailer and the poster but I'm not holding out on hope.
