This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

It's crazy how Last of Us gets hyped as the game Xbox players are missing and we have this fantastic gem in State of Decay. For 20 dollars, the content and immersion is just incredible, easily better than anything I've done in The Walking Dead.

For anyone on the fence about Blood Dragon, I have made a quick update of my experience for you. Full disclosure: this is/will be an unpopular opinion.
I took several users advice on how to play this game after my initial negative experience. None of these recommendations helped. This game has some of the worst FPS mechanics ever. The aiming is all over the place. The movement manages to be both too fast and not fast enough(?). The health system is terrible. And the guns never manage to feel powerful even after several upgrades.
The aiming feels so floaty and imprecise. One piece of advice given to me was to jump around like I was on crack and fire at everything. Did that and accidentally discovered that if you just jump up in the air near an enemy, you will "death from above" assassinate them. So, naturally, I stopped using guns entirely.
The movement and health systems constantly clash. The game wants you to be a super awesome, ultramasculine, homophobic '80s dudebro, but really your character is just a wet napkin on flaming rollerskates.

Now the positives:
The game can be hilarious. It relentlessly hurls self-aware, nostalgia humor in your face hoping something will stick. More times than not, it does.
Blood Dragons are awesome.
Terminator soundtrack is pretty great.
Explosions look pretty.

So that's about it. Just be aware that your $5 are paying for laughs, not tight gameplay.

*shrug* I started it for the first time today and am loving it. If all else fails just play on easy.

I think I'm one of the *only* people that just can't get into TLoU. I've tried several times to get into it and after about 3 hours I'm bored. I talked to one of the GS employees I actually like to buy from and he said he's the same way. He's meant to finally play it but can't get into it.

The presentation is probably the best of the generation and Troy Baker's performance is unbelievable, but as a game I wasn't crazy about it. The gunplay didn't feel great and the stealth aspect didn't appeal to me, and the abundance of enemies that could one-shot you even on the easiest difficulty was frustrating. It made me wish I was playing Uncharted instead, or alternately that TLOU had been more of an interactive narrative like The Walking Dead so that I could experience the amazing storytelling without having to slog through the gameplay.

yes

Shadow Complex is easily in my top three XBLA games of that generation. The only negative doesn't really have to do with the game, but that the developer found so much success on iOS that the success of Shadow Complex paled in comparison and never got the sequel it deserved.
I agree. Played the game again and it's still great after all these years.

Are you willing to wait another four years for a potential sale if it doesn't go GwG...? With the game being nearly universally lauded as one of the best XBL metroidvanias that should be your starting off point if you're really going to debate buying it at 25% or 33% or whatever it's on sale for right now.
I've gone this long and have a big enough backlog as it is, so yeah I can wait potentially.

Its funny that right now the 360 is a better media machine. allows videos from usb, hbo go, and has the twc app so I can watch so live tv
To be fair, that didn't happen over night. Some of the apps made available for the 360 just happened this year. But I do agree the Xbox 360 is the better all in one system compared to even other current gen systems.

I probably still won't buy it, but does anyone know if the TMNT game ever got a title update that made it suck less? Lazy google-fu shows that it was patched on Steam and got a last-minute delay on PSN that pushed the game back something like half a year.

I'm curious about this as well.

I finally bought  a $10 XBL card yesterday and put it into my account and now, whenever I try to buy Blood Dragon or Spec Ops on xbox.com, and I get a message saying I "have no valid payment options on file." What about the $10 taht should be more than enough for any $5 game. Then I go throught the effort of hooking my 360 and I get a message like "Sorry, we couldn't get authorization for this. Use a different or new way to pay,or check that your billing address is correct. If you have more questions, your financial institution is the one to ask." Anyone know what the problem is and can help?

Try going to account.live.com and check out your balance/billing information there. See if anything looks weird.

You can't buy things with points/cash cards off of xbox.com anymore, it's in the first post.

Not sure about getting the weird error on your actual 360. If your account checks out ok at the above link, you could try contacting Microsoft support.

I find it slightly disturbing that over the past four days, someone from China has tried to access my account twice and Russia once, but nothing else was weird. Talking to xbox support now, thanks.

Where do you go to see who has tried to access your account? Now I am a bit curious about mine now.

A sale like the one this past week is the kind of sale I want on a regular weekly basis; one that spans multiple formats and multiple genres. There were titles in XBLA, GonD, DLC spanning across platformers, racing, open world/sandbox, shooters, sports, brawlers, fighters, and RPGs. After one great date night, it reminds you why you look forward to them and you'd hope for another.

If you like shoot-em-ups, Under Defeat HD is now available as a Games on Demand title for $20. It's a 1 GB download, was previously available on PS3 but not for 360 in the US. The Achievements are super easy, they say.
Yes! So glad to have this available to me in the US. It is interesting how some region locked Euro titles are getting released via Games on Demand in the US marketplace. I missed out on this game on Dreamcast when I was tight on funds and opted for Border Down LE and Triggerheart Exelica instead. Now I can catch up with my Dreamcast nostalgia with a game I really wanted at a much lower cost (opposed to a game I do not want). In a very un-CAG act, I immediately bought Under Defeat HD without waiting on a sale (but brought me to the final amount needed for Binge Watch and Play promotion), thanks eastx for letting me know, and you're welcome everyone it will soon be discounted or a Games with Gold title now that I bought it full price. The Dreamcast games on XBLA remind me why I was attracted to the Xbox platform to begin with, now for shooting games I'm still waiting on Mars Matrix and Giga Wing titles to hit XBLA to antiquate my Dreamcast in the shooting game genre.

Don't ever call me the M word.
...Mega?
...Man?

Yes? No?

Burnout 3: Takedown and Burnout Revenge are two of my most favorite racing games of all time. I wish they'd put out a solid sequel to those games on next gen. I didn't like Paradise as much but it was OK, just not as good as the others.
Yep, I too loved 3: Takedown so much I pop it into my 360 every now and then. While I personally liked 3 a tad more than Revenge, but in my short time with Revenge on the 360 it became as great from my brief moment with its community. I remember when the servers were shutting down on 360's Revenge, I met a fantastic group which only dedicated itself to the Crash mode, even at that time still finding newer and even higher scores (teaching me one too). Fortunately, since the shutdown I remember the servers mysteriously came back and I still wonder if they are still dominating the scores in that one mode alone, would love to find them again. However, I also play the games for the cathartic road rage mode ^^. I had only tried the demo to Paradise, and I felt map reading/memorization got in the way of my enjoyment at the time, going into a wrong alley instead of the actual race path or not knowing beforehand where jumps were. Yet, I am now more open to giving Paradise another go ever since they gave that one pack for free; now I just wish the rest of the DLC would go on sale.

Til November huh? Well that's good to know. When the news came out, I assumed it was effective immediately but if the game is untouched until November, I'm going to look at reviews and consider moving this up to the top of the backlog because I was a bit interested in it when it came out.

Any CAGs put a good amount of playing time into Ascend that can recommend it or not?
The Ebbtide made a wonderful description of Ascend: Hand of Kul however, I found the game on the opposite end of the spectrum of being awful (one of my recent most memorably miserable times) despite the game featuring some relatively unique gameplay qualities. I have played it most of last week after learning it is going away on the 360 and regretted most of my time with the game (remember, I can't help but play bad games). All you do is go to a place and clear out waves of the same maybe 6 enemy types (of varying color swaps), visit dungeons with strings of interconnected rooms (where you can literally guess there will be more of those same 6 enemy types before you approach), until you reach a bot or one of 3 damage sponge boss types. It will always be damage sponges because everything levels with you wherever you go in its bland environments. Also the story/lore seems throwaway to me where you have 4 evil ex-boyfriends and you must kill them before they have congress with a demon so you can face the demon saving the president's daughter. To its credit, the music and environments fit its theme, and stays out of the way to be pretty bland to me. Another good point is that it is meaningless to ever spend actual money, so if you are that tight on cash and need some placebo for interactive media, there is Ascend, but I think bob101910 had posted a deep thought (at least to me being simple minded) which explains it best. Besides, why dwell on this part of the backlog when September is coming with Monaco and Halo: Reach (man, I love this Uphill Both Ways remix, as a non-Halo fan, this is pretty hype)! I'm just saying: consider your backlog and potential future backlog wisely.

Any thoughts on Soul Caliber V?
Did you like Soul Edge/Soul Calibur 1/2/3/4? Then flip a coin to see if your favorite character gets replaced by a less interesting successor. Bandai-Namco does seem to be trying to incorporate the old characters back into the 5 engine lately.

Soul Calibur 5 does try to speed up the play mechanics and add in some 2D-fighter elements like a super meter/move into combat. However, the additional modes and content (unlockables) does have this rushed to market feeling. Notable in its restrictive forgettable story mode (no choice in character played) involving sexual tension between siblings culminating to a showdown with a Tyler Durden style battle with their practically naked mother told mostly through storyboards/animatics. His name is Paul Robertson. Still at just under $4, I was going to purchase it digitally as well, but then I realized I bought it in digital GonD form before and so here I am wanting discounts on all the DLC costume parts (again probably sectioned off from what was already finished before rushed out to have a DLC offering).

Good thing I get to save money, because now I'm hoping Dead or Alive 5 Last Round will have every DLC included. With my hype for that announcement, I will want to buy that as well for more 3D fighting games. So maybe it isn't too late for Bandai-Namco to turn Soul Calibur V around to a well rounded game. Just know on the 360, the Best Buy bonus character is Dampierre which is on the marketplace for $5 (another sectioning off).

Date night is coming hopefully it will be one so good we'd tour them through our sexnasium for a late night workout. With discounts so deep worth showing off to our mother ... like Patroklos did. We will get a superior offering on the Xbox platforms for Games with Gold this month, and I hope Xbox Rewards will actually have some worthwhile offers, at least a survey for 250 reward points. See you there.

[EDIT: forgot rhythm/music games, but that's just because I've yet to start Rockband Blitz in fear I will have to buy songs (yes, it will happen, even when I don't want to, so many good ones we all like) so I've not paid attention, but I think someone mentioned some have been discounted ... also TGS news should be coming in, my hype building ^^]

[UPDATE: well, the debut trailer to Dead or Alive 5 Last Round says it is also coming to 360/PS3 in addition to X1/PS4 and it appears that some DOA1, DOA2, and DOA3 stages show up ... along with some Senran Kagura collaboration, which only notable thing in its fighting game mainly features clothes damage o_O ... yep, Senran Kagura has clothes ripping tech -_- ... which makes my case of enjoying the gameplay mechanics of DOA more difficult to believe even further ... at least it is obvious the new characters are included, but nothing that I can discern about the additional costumes at this time]

I find it slightly disturbing that over the past four days, someone from China has tried to access my account twice and Russia once, but nothing else was weird. Talking to xbox support now, thanks.
Let us know what they tell you. I have only one I did not know and it was from Canada.

Make sure it doesn't say "successful login" for the China and Russia ones. There is the "revoke access" and "two step authentication" options though. I stepped my security up earlier this year, with all the hacking that's been going on.

Super Time Force... Not really my thing I guess. It was fun, for like 5 minutes. The whole "trying to be retro" and the "rewind time" gimmick got annoying. I'd of been happier with just a straight up side scrolling shooter sans the rewind gimmick. But, as I said last month about Strike Suit Zero, it was a free game and no money wasted.

Finally got around to checking out this weeks sales, so much to pick from yet nothing I want or don't already have. Even a free Super Time Force is an easy skip for me.

Thanks for the pointer to this new DOA5 version! I'll definitely be getting that on PS4 when I get around to buying one.

DL'd and played Super Time Force just now.  I'm very mixed on it.  I love the retro aesthetic, music was great, I liked the three initial characters and their unique abilities, the runnin' n' gunnin' was fun......but I didn't care for the time manipulation gimmick.  I know that's the whole point of the game, but it turned it into a psuedo puzzle game and I just wanted an old school, Gunstar Heroes style side scrolling shooter.  Not bad, just not my thang, I suppose.  I'll keep it on the hard drive just in case, like Guacamelee, I want to give it another try.

I did not get Super Time Force at all, not my thing really. If it was a straight up Contra without the time rewind shit, then i would love it. Oh well.

Wait...you mean that's NOT a picture of Daniel Bryan?
Yes! As in yes, that statement is correct. ;-) Nope, not a picture of the American Dragon. It's a selfie of me in a car from early 2014. I've had it as my Facebook and Twitter pic since then, and I changed my avatar here a couple months ago.
