I just finished Limbo last week and really enjoyed it alot. Thinking about picking up The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom, thought it looked kinda similar to Limbo.

What do you guys think? Is it worth the points?
I would have paid 1200 for it... so, in my opinion, it's absolutely worth 400. The game can be hard at times, but that only makes it satisfying when you complete one of the more difficult levels.

Great game.
Just as to counter your logic, I would make a case for the game being more likely to go on sale now.
Keep in mind, a large chunk of the world's population haven't had a chance to play it yet (even the demo)... so I think there are quite a few people in Europe especially who have been waiting for 6 months (and are itching to spend 1200 points). Fingers crossed nonetheless!

Well sure. As I said an argument could be made for either case. Trenched is still top of my XBLA wish list though. I'm hoping for any of the following to get a sale: Trenched, Bastion (or any of the SoA game really), Galaga Legions DX, Half Minute Hero, Renegade Ops, and The Baconing. There's still a few more that are either really old or not likely to go on sale at all so why bother listing them. I'm looking at you Meteos Wars!

You read my mind, Chrono ^^ I'm absolutely DYING to see all of the games you listed go on sale. Well, except for The Baconing. I missed out when the first two Deathspank games were on sale... and yes, I'm still kicking myself for it to this day.

Throw in From Dust, Beyond Good & Evil, Full House Poker, Street Fighter 3, and Sonic 4 and then I'll be a happy camper. Come on Microsoft, make it even more epic this year ;)

Aside from the black and white color scheme, Winterbottom is not really that similar to Limbo. The puzzles emphasize utilizing time manipulation and clones, making the gameplay more akin to Braid (although the puzzles are nowhere near as difficult as Braid's). Like Limbo, the game is on the short side, though there are a number of bonus puzzles in addition to the story mode. I'd say for 400 points the price is right. Very easy game to 200/200 as well.

If the Deathspanks ever go on sale absolutely buy them. If they go on sale on PSN I'll be happy to double dip. I LOVED those games.

You have no idea how giddy I'd be if they both went on sale again. I tried the demo of the 1st one and loved the look and feel of it, especially the humor. Plus, I need a new dungeon-crawler fix since I beat the hell out of Torchlight and I didn't care for Crimson Alliance.

DeathSpank was cool at the time it came out, but the fact that there are already two sequels which look and play exactly like the first game really diminishes how special any of the three games is... If that makes sense. Pumping out nigh-identical sequels was a mistake IMO.

This makes no sense to me. I liked the feel and gameplay of the first and therefore have eagerly bought and enjoyed the next two the day they came out. If I enjoy a game, I want more of the same. I don't crave different or upgraded sequels. I want more of the stuff I liked the first time.

If the first DeathSpank game was just perfect or something, then sure, a lack of improvements and evolution is perfectly justified. But the rough graphics, poorly-implemented co-op, and other problems will never get fixed if they keep lazily reusing the same engine. I don't think most people want exactly the same thing from sequels - they want improvements. Otherwise you're just paying for the same thing over and over.

I would describe this as sequel fatigue, which usually occurs when games are pumped out on a yearly schedule without taking the time to properly innovate between releases.

I know exactly what you are talking about and wholeheartedly agree.

I have thousands of points waiting to be spent but nothing is to be expected. Maybe a shmup sale, some Games on Demand sale or games that have never been on sale finally get discounted for once. Ah who am I kidding?, the sales will be summer of arcade titles, mainstream titles and they'll throw a Microsoft games studio game at a big discount! Oh wait, I didn't just..

I loved the first 2 Deathspanks, thought about buying the 3rd full price, but at this point there's really no point in doing so.

Bastion and ITSP are the 2 SoA games I bought, both are a lot of fun, but I kind of wish I would have waited for 800 or lower on both of them. I'd love to see Bubble Bobble NEO pop up in one of these sales haha.

I'm scared for the BF/Xmas sales, there's way too many games I'd buy half price. Bastion, ITSP, Half Minute Hero, basically any game released after June.
I'm scared for the BF/Xmas sales, there's way too many games I'd buy half price. Bastion, ITSP, Half Minute Hero, basically any game released after June.
Those 3 and From Dust are the ones I want most, but I'm not sure I can cave at any less than 50% off.

mostly hoping for Bastion, might even bite at 800 at this point, so hopefully we at least get that. few others im hoping for but we'll see what happens

and I'm with the crowd on the DeathSpank topic.... I loved the first, bought the second and just didn't really like it, it was just too much of the same and I got bored after about an hour, still am yet to beat it. so definitely won't be getting the third if it's more of the same... try harder.
I'm in the same boat. I buy most of the $5 games when they're on sale, but no way I would get Axel & Pixel. Demo is lame and adventure games are the lowest form of games IMO
Ouuuch. I always thought adventures games - like Monkey Island, Sam & Max, Grim Fandango, etc. - were actually one of the highest forms of games.

But all you are really doing is stating your opinion that you didn't like the game and wanted it improved. While I'm stating I did like the game and have been happy with the lack of anything happening to change the system I enjoyed. For example I like the graphics, don't give a damn about co-op and haven't encountered any other problems.

Your point makes more since for full retail releases sure. But this is a download game meant for some bite size fun and I think it does that well across the board.

I would point to the new DMC as an example of trying to reboot a sequel and actually alienating the people who have followed and supported the previous games they enjoyed. Even Mass Effect has seen blow back from fans about adding multiplayer to what they wanted to see finished as a true single player experience.

In the end you can't please everybody but in this case you simply didn't like this game and speak to the sequels not enticing you to like it anymore. While I put forward that in that case the game and it's sequels just aren't for you.
Really hope they put Pinball FX2 tables for sale.
I highly doubt this will happen, especially for the cheaper (240 point) tables. Just buy them already and support the developers.
I highly doubt this will happen, especially for the cheaper (240 point) tables. Just buy them already and support the developers.
Actually the 240 tables are more expensive. They started at 200. While this isn't a big increase it has ruined my buying of new tables a bit. Before if I had 1000 points I would be all "Oh I'll get an 800 point game and a table." Now You kind of have to plan it out with other uneven priced stuff.

Not awful, just annoying.
I don't think any Summer of Arcade games will be on sale. I think more that Beyond good and evil is on sale.
They'll be on sale before the end of the year, last year's were also on sale around Christmas since I recall picking some of them (ugh) up. Bastion is a buy for me, though, even at 33% off.

Throwing my hat into the "hoping Bastion is on sale" hat. I'll bite at whatever sale price it gets marked down to because it was one of the demos I had the hardest time not biting at full price for after playing it. Also hoping for the rest of the F:NV DLC to be on sale, but considering how obsessed I am with Skyrim it'll probably go on sale AGAIN before I have time to actually play it. I'd consider the Warhammer Arcade game as well because if it had online co-op I'd have bit at 800, but without it was a total deal-breaker, but I'd still buy it in the 200-400 range. I'd also consider ITSP and Rock of Ages depending on price because they were both surprisingly fun.
Ouuuch. I always thought adventures games - like Monkey Island, Sam & Max, Grim Fandango, etc. - were actually one of the highest forms of games.
It's just my opinion. I guess I am not good at them, I can never figure out what to do. I "interact" with everything I can think of, and solve problems in ways that seem to make sense, but rarely do I figure anything out. Then I have to turn to a guide online, and at that point I ask myself why am I playing a game that I can't figure out by myself.

I did buy the Strong Bad games on PSN (because I love Strongbad) and enjoyed the 1st one thanks to the humor.

Yeah, I don't think we'll see SoA games on sale this month, but who knows. I don't think any of them did as well as last years sales-wise, so maybe they'll dump them quicker.

I just want to see sales on games that haven't been on sale before. Repeats are what bothers me the most. Oh, and I hope they minimize the amount of sales on DLC, I don't like 90% of the DLC sales they do.
Oh, and I hope they minimize the amount of sales on DLC, I don't like 90% of the DLC sales they do.
That's probably because 90% of their DLC sales are for Borderlands, Fallout, Bioshock, Grand Theft Auto, and Red Dead Redemption.
Ouuuch. I always thought adventures games - like Monkey Island, Sam & Max, Grim Fandango, etc. - were actually one of the highest forms of games.
They're good, but this game seems more like those that are offered on the PC for free.

The Deathspank sequels just highlighted how dreadfully dull and tedious their hack and slash loot collection gameplay is. They're hilarious games but I really don't want to come back to that awful hodge-podge of button mashing.

Ouuuch. I always thought adventures games - like Monkey Island, Sam & Max, Grim Fandango, etc. - were actually one of the highest forms of games.
Only if you rate the highness of your games in the dialog they have. I love good adventure games as much as the next guy but generally they aren't technically impressive.

I'll admit, a lot of the old adventure games had some real stretched solutions for puzzles - like beyond thinking outside the box. A good example was Monkey Island where they had you use a magnetic compass as an actual magnet(?!) But IMHO, there's no shame in using a strategy guide.
Only if you rate the highness of your games in the dialog they have. I love good adventure games as much as the next guy but generally they aren't technically impressive.
That's pretty much what I meant. Point and click gameplay isn't exactly innovative, but the story and dialogue are what do it for me. Sam and Max Hit the Road (the old DOS game) still has enough laugh out loud moments for me to go back and play it now. Regardless of how dated the graphics/sound/mechanics are.

Gotta agree with the Deathspank criticisms. I was really hyped for the first game and bought it day 1 without hestitation. The premise of a hybrid adventure game/dungeon crawl with Ron Gilbert at the helm sounded extremely promising.

The problem is that the game does a half assed job at both genres it attempts to take on. While the writing is quite funny in the first game, the quests are strictly of the mindless fetch variety with no real puzzles to be found. The combat and loot are both too shallow and the whole thing gets repetitive quick.

That being said, I did enjoy the first game for the most part, but by the end I was sort of just glad it was over with. When the 2nd game came out almost immediately afterward and was said to be more of the same, I was still burned out on the first game and decided to pass. Now that Ron Gilbert is no longer attached to the series, I have no interest in The Baconing and whatever else comes next unless the series undergoes a serious overhaul.
Anyone know when the fan appreciation sale titles will be announced?
Considering the sale is slated to start tomorrow I'd wager we won't know what's on sale until it goes live.
Anyone know when the fan appreciation sale titles will be announced?
Best guess is the stuff that was on sale for one day last week and then got pulled.

yeah itll be the same stuff they did have on sale. its like theyre only allowed to put the same crap on sale month after month.
there are a few people on here i know who could do a better job at marking down what and slashing prices on stuff than any guy who went to college for 4 years and has a degree in business.

Permanently reducing the prices for old DLC on a more regular basis would be a good start. (The DLC courses for Tiger Woods 10 are still 600 points each. Seriously, WTF?)
Considering the sale is slated to start tomorrow I'd wager we won't know what's on sale until it goes live.
I think it will start on Tuesday, that's what Major Nelson's site says.

Wasn't that a one day sale celebrating the Xbox's 10th anniversary? No reason to expect those to repeat.
I think it will start on Tuesday, that's what Major Nelson's site says.
Might have been a typo in th OP. I was going off that date which lists 11-21 as the start date so forgive my error.

I agree, it would be nice to pick up some DLC for some older/less popular games at a discount.
Wasn't that a one day sale celebrating the Xbox's 10th anniversary? No reason to expect those to repeat.
I was going with the assumption that it was part of the whole fan appreciation sale and it just got triggered early and pulled. It only showed it briefly on the dashboard and Major Nelson didn't even tweet about it (and he usually does). At the same time, a couple WP7 games went on sale too and then promptly disappeared with being advertised either. So, I dunno.

I agree with some of the criticism, however it isn't fair to bash Microsoft over Xbox 360 sales. What happens is a team of some people @ MS get with developers/publishers and come to an agreement of putting their title(s) on sale for a certain price and have them as part of a promotion and what not. Microsoft just hosts and sells the titles, but they don't always have the final say so of what goes on sale unless of course it is a Microsoft Games Studios title. I too am tired of sales pertaining to Red Faction, Rock Star games and what not.

Anyways, as I stated before i've read some of the comments on here and some of your wishes will be coming true this Xmas so start saving up your Microsoft Points. 1 SoA title will go on sale and it'll be well worth the wait ;)
I was going with the assumption that it was part of the whole fan appreciation sale and it just got triggered early and pulled. They went up fairly early in the day (the wee hours of the morning even) and came down after midnight (my time anyway) so I assumed they were an unannounced one day sale. It's a good thing there wasn't much there or some people would have really missed out.

Look at the discounts that Sony manages to get for Playstation Plus subscribers, though - frequent sales on newly-released games, half-off on fairly recent games, and even the occasional new game for free. I know XBox Live Gold and PS Plus aren't completely comparable systems, but you'd still think MS would be able to get better sales than they do.

I had heard rumblings about an Xbox Live Platinum membership being potentially in the works to match the PS+ program. Wouldn't really do someone like me much good since I own 100+ arcade games covering about 90% of the games I want. I was lucky I pretty much ignored PSN until PS+ came out. I don't think I owned a single PSN game pre-PS+ and have been very satisfied with the program thus far. Provided it's a much smaller cash commitment I would probably still sign up for an Xbox equivalent.
But all you are really doing is stating your opinion that you didn't like the game and wanted it improved. While I'm stating I did like the game and have been happy with the lack of anything happening to change the system I enjoyed. For example I like the graphics, don't give a damn about co-op and haven't encountered any other problems.

I never said I disliked DeathSpank. I liked it pretty well and got all of its Achievements. But I have different levels of appreciation for games (and all entertainment products). It's not just 'hated' and 'loved' or 'disliked' and 'liked.' While I liked DeathSpank, I did not enjoy it so much that I missed its many obvious rough edges. It was not the maximum quality of game for me. For you to be oblivious to the room for improvement and actively want the developers not to improve anything is just silly.

Nobody said they should remake it from the ground up and ditch the main character or whatever else attracted people to the original. But improving things is a natural and expected aspect of videogame sequels. I assume you've never played any other sequels ever? When Uncharted 3 came out, people didn't lament all of the new things the devs did with it. A lot of people would call it the best in the series. With the DeathSpank games there essentially can't be a best in series because every entry is just about identical other than the stories.

Even if DeathSpank is your favorite game of all time, I can't imagine thinking it's perfect and not wanting one iota of improvements in successive games. I guess the devs think the same way (though obviously because it costs them very little to make new entries), but they've run what could have been a successful series practically into the ground.

If I'm not mistaken Deathspank 1 & 2 were made simultaneously so improvements were not likely going to have happened. As far as The Baconing is concerned, they said they fixed the biggest issues fans had with the franchise. I can't speak from experience with The Baconing since I haven't picked it up yet, but I can hope they made improvements.

That is a fair point about DeathSpank 2, or Thong of Virtue or whatever. Sort of like Matrix 2 and 3 - back-to-back creation means ya can't fix problems before the next entry comes out. By all accounts part 3 (which ditches DeathSpank's name, a bad sign) doesn't change much at all, and the co-op is still as poorly-conceived as ever.
Might have been a typo in th OP. I was going off that date which lists 11-21 as the start date so forgive my error.
No worries. I just wanted to inform, I believe it is a typo in the OP as well. We'll see tomorrow.
Picked up Ms. Splosion Man and the Ms. Splosion Man pinball table. The kids seem to dig it and it was worth 5 bucks I guess.
I'm almost through the first world of Ms. Splosion Man and LOVING it. I guess the game is not for everyone, but challenging platforming is right in my wheelhouse.
