I have about half my games in boxes and storage crates, and all my artbooks and more than half my strategy guides in piles :/ I need a bigger house or something haha
I try to set up space constraints for myself, such as the PS1 collection will live in area X, and anything that doesn't fit in that area has a license to be culled.
Alright, since one person was kind of interested let us begin...
GHETTO ORGANIZATION THEATER
The story thus far...
Indigo has a collection 70+ CDs in a bureau drawer, not really enough to take up the whole drawer, but enough near the front for easy access. Normally the CDs are held up by an unused Magic the Gathering card collection in the back, but if Indigo removes the boxes--Oh shit!!! The CDs want to play fall-over.
Since I know you can't wait any longer, here is the solution:
Top down view of modified FLYTs snugly deployed in drawer.
Removed FLYT-mod to demonstrate dimensions.
It should be noted that the original FLYTs are 3/8 to 1/2 of an inch too short to accommodate the second row of eight CDs; so you have to cut a small "door" in the back of the box, bend it to the new CD constraints, and patch it with tape and leftover cardboard scraps.
You might ask yourself "Why?" but let me tell you, the results are completely worth it. Not only is the box sturdy enough to stand upright, but you don't have issues with CDs flopping around. Since it's a custom fit the CDs are held snugly, yet not too tight to keep one from pulling individual titles out.
Okay, let's talk pricing here, bottom line. A 24-count CD storage box at IKEA might cost you as much as
$8. Which means you could spend $40 or more on an entire drawer.
My way, with a little effort, gets you a 16-count storage box for the low, low price of
40 cents. And being that FLYTs come in 5-packs for roughly $2 each, it's possible that you could do a whole drawer for less than
the cost of a single IKEA storage box.
OTHER APPLICATIONS?
Well, if you're a Playstation 1 collector; it's possible that these boxes may be strong enough for horizontal stacking and may help to mitigate any potential crush damage in those 20+ game skyscrapers I'm sure you have hanging around.
