Can't you hold a shoulder button to do another 3 or 4 moves?

You can't assign anything to L1 as a warrior since you don't train any secondary skills for a second weapon/shield. At least, I've found no way to do it so if there is a way then the UI has failed me horribly. When I hold L1 nothing shows up on the move list either, so there's no default stuff that I saw. It's kind of boring not having many skills but the damage is pretty high so I just use the evasive slash and a downward strike for when enemies are stunned/fallen. Otherwise it's square ad naseum. . .

Fought my first gryphon yesterday and had it 3/4th dead when it. . .ran away. So dumb since it bucked me off in the air and I couldn't seem to clip its wings no matter how much I attacked there (not sure if it's even possible). Really wanted to kill it for the meat it drops and hopefully a feather to upgrade a piece of armor to 3-star. :\

Honestly not trying to be an ass at all, but you got to level 71 "really fast" or you got tired of it well before reaching that point and just unhappily grinded your way to level 71? Having not played the game at all, that makes it sound like either your perception of "really fast" and mine differ immensely or that the leveling system in Dogma is crazy accelerated.

Leveling does happen pretty fast, and I also got tired of playing it pretty fast. I had the game for about a month, in that time I played a decent amount of time, but was also playing Skyrim at the same time, and there were several chunks of days, 3 or 4 at a time, that I didn't play at all. It's actually a pretty short game compared to Skyrim and the like, and new game plus is just the exact same game you just finished only you get to keep your level and gear. To me that's kinda boring as well, repeating everything I just completed.

I got probably from 60 to 71 in just a couple of days just on grinding rooms looking for rare gear in chests, because by that point I could only complete the final part of the game because all the quests/mission were done and there was nothing else to do, or start over on NG+. There are also single use items you loot that can really up the amount of xp you get from killing stuff. I used one of those on Ur Dragon and went up several levels when he died. And I only played it twice in the last two weeks, so for me to finish a game in that amount of time was a disappointment.

Eh, it feels well-paced to me and leveling is just about right without using any items. Doesn't feel like a grind at all since all the content is so fucking good. I mean, they put a LOT of love into this game and it totally shows. You can go beyond the boundaries of some quests, like forging documents for double the reward or decide whether or not to intervene on others. It's a well-forged ARPG and is quickly becoming my second favorite on PS3, right behind Demon's Souls it's so good.

It's really hard to detail every little thing they thought of or how well the world/dungeons are designed but somebody at Capcom deserves an award. There's some really brilliant design in the pawn system and how interesting the vocation system is (thanks to FFV no doubt) being able to bring some augments from other classes with you. The game is unforgiving if you venture out at night and it's really exhilarating when you down a new huge monster for the first time. I could go on and on, but people should really check it out if they liked either DS games because they won't be disappointed.

And lastly, I was pretty hard on the combat but I found once I threw away some skills for other ones, it got more interesting. I also didn't know that you can combo the evasive slash by spamming it for a pretty powerful stun to knockdown one, two punch. Lol, it makes killing just about anything a cake-walk before stamina runs low.

See I think this game is really nothing like Demons Souls. I HATED that game, I found no enjoyment in that at all, where I thought this game was too easy once you got to level 20 and over. It's semi open world but it's also on rails since every open area leads you to somewhere else that's not very open at all. Dungeons were decent, but the entire area was so small that weren't all that many dungeons to explore.

There's really no story, or what story there is doesn't make a lot of sense, at least to me it didn't. To even get the "correct" ending I had to look it up on the net as there was no ingame indication as to what the right steps were.

We're just going to have to disagree on what we each though of the game. To me it was a lot of Meh.....

So Everfall just opened up on my 1st playthrough. I've done 50+ board quests already, so would just finishing and starting NG+ be fine (as in i can blow through the story and forget about the escort/kill x monster quests)? Or does it take a while to get to an open Everfall again in NG+, so I might as well grind in the rooms a bit?

Yeah, so I dumped warrior after trying to make it work for 40 levels and went ranger. Wow. . .they really needed to give warrior a crossbow or something because I can't see playing this without the utility of some ranged abilities anymore. Some quests have you killing birds (NOT fun as melee) and there's one in particular that is straight up impossible if you're not ranged because your idiot AI pawns keep screaming about what you need to do and then. . .sit there like dumbfucks when they're the only one who can hit it.

Other than that, ranger just has soooooooooooo much utility it's a crime they made warrior so awful. The good thing is that all that time wasn't a complete waste because they get some very nice augments that I'm still using. Point being, if you play this game don't lock yourself into one class because it can be a breath of fresh air leveling a new vocation. Definitely check out ranger because it's a) badass and b) gets an augment called illumination very early which increases your lantern range.

Finally finished all the sidequests and beat the game. The final fight was pretty damn epic and has solidified my GOTY vote for DD. And I feel like the game has only just begun after however many hours I've already sunk into this lol. Went back to Gran Soren to check out the post-game stuffs and was already limping in thanks to the non-stop action of deadly beasts unleashed. Feels good to have a challenge again!

Now I just wish there was more to explore seeing as I've been everywhere. Do you only get one portcrystal per playthrough? It's a brilliant idea considering I hated how in Elder Scroll games you could just fast travel everywhere, but having to choose carefully where you'd like to warp to is a fair compromise. I just wish I had a few more for far off places.

AFAIK you can just blow through the game and ignore all the board quests. I'm not sure if I want to farm Everfall or just hit NG+ either.

NG+ has portcrystals for sale, and that's one reason I kinda wanna move on to that. But I agree, having the new tougher monsters is welcome in the last part of the game. I will probably move on to the ending so I can get the thing over with, but the journey's been awesome in this game. And I only played 2 classes!

I recommend having your fun in the Everfall before finishing the game. The Everfall does not open early the second time around.

Oh sweet. Yeah, my first time traveling back to Gran Soren I fought a
Spoiler
(sadly before I could pick up the quest ha) and man was it fun. Then I did the challenge quest to kill a
Spoiler
and it was such a sick fight I wanted to do it again lol. Gonna finish up my leftover quests topside and take the plunge into Everfall.

I hope they make a second game because I'd love to see them improve some classes, like fighter/warrior. Those two are incredibly weak considering they have no ranged abilities, which immediately gimps them for half the boss fights. What's funny is strider has the arm strength augment for grappling when there's no reason to since bows do so much more damage. The game feels balanced around strider/ranger so next game I'd like to see something like heroic leap for warrior to add mobility and some crossbow skills for close-range sniping. Otherwise they're just walking tanks that bring nothing but pure damage. Sadly, ranger just does it better.

Have you actually fought Ur Dragon yet? The grappling and strength enhancements are for using daggers mostly on the archer/assasin type builds. Grapple onto Ur, climb up to a damage point and hack away. Much more damage than with bows. Especially when you get the daggers that drop off Ur. And you might actually have gimped yourself by only playing warrior type for so long. It's good to get enhancments from a lot of the classes since they carry over when you change types.

Not yet. Been building my gear up and getting it dragonforged now that I have access to 43 weapons. So far I maxed out fighter, warrior, ranger, and strider just last night. Still playing with augments but I'm not sure if I want to purely min/max stats from those or add some stuffs that help with bows (recoil/reticle while moving). I can take down everything pretty easy now but my goal is to absolutely destroy dragons while taking little damage. Once I'm at that point, I think I'll be ready.

#103 Jodou

Oh wow, I just found out that stats don't shift when you change vocation. For some reason I thought stat growth was variable to when you change class, not when you level. From 10 to 100 I should have been assassin if I wanted the most strength lol. After that I could switch to w/e since the stats don't scale very differently by then. By staying warrior so long I actually gained more defense than I'll need, but at least it was the second highest strength gain possible. I only really gimped myself in the stamina department, but I can just eat shrooms like mad for that lol. This game continues to surprise me with its depth; I really hope they make a sequel.

Kind of makes me want to start over but since this isn't really an online game, I won't bother. Still, good tip for anyone starting out fresh.

Truly beat the game last night and started NG+. It was so much fun just blowing through quests again I didn't notice it was 4am before calling it a night lol.

Tried taking on the UR-dragon before beating the game and I'm not sure why, but hitting his weak spots did no damage at all (online). I mean, I was using dragon-forged Dragon's Pain (43 daggers; BiS pre-dragon kill) so it wasn't a gearing issue. All the while, I kept dying on purpose trying different things and seeing his health drop drastically from other players. After surviving a round, I just left feeling like it was pointless since I wasn't contributing at all. I was level 70 so if this has become a matter of not being high-level enough, then that's a pretty bad design flaw. Unless something changes by the time I get all the other trophies, which won't take long, then I guess I'll just need to kill him offline.

Sucks because the only real persistence in the game is pawns and the endgame dragon killing online.

Beat it just now and wow...That's a pretty awesome game right there. Came in quiet and awkward, but knew what it wanted to do. And that was Fuck with my mind.

Not sure I want to slog through it again so soon...Any experiences with the DLC quests? I assume since they're cheap that they're also very short...but any weight story-wise to them?

You weren't doing anything wrong with the Ur-Dragon. Capcom tried to balance the Ur-Dragon fight by changing his stats based on how the last fight went. So if he goes down very quickly once, in the next fight he will have very high defense, and only those who have grinded very high will be able to do noticeable damage. It's still worth facing him if you're going to be around for his death, though, as I think your rewards are a bit better. If you want a fairer fight against him, go offline and do it. The rewards aren't as good, but he won't be undamageable.

Also dying to the Ur-Dragon is not helping - when you die to him or leave mid-fight, he gets some of his life bars back. Best to wait the 8 minutes or so until he leaves.

Well then nothing will ever change online because even with me dying, I'd come back and he'd already have lost a full bar or so to other players. So even with my five or more deaths, they were absolutely destroying him fast. It pissed me off because I felt like I was at the point where I should be able to take him on, but to be completely invulnerable to my attacks is dumb. I'm aiming to grind to 100 and then try again. I'm so tempted to just start the game over and truly min/max a character, but I wonder how strong the community would be by then since it would take another few weeks. I'm just hitting the point where there's nothing to work for except a UR-Dragon kill for the loot. Everything is so easy to kill I don't even miss not having a mage anymore since I never need healing.

Decisions, decisions. . .

#108 Jodou

Jodou

Killed the UR-Dragon online yesterday and I thought you were supposed to get every weapon as a drop? Sucks because the archstaff I wanted for my pawn wasn't among the loot. Seems like it dies every two days so I might try again then, if nothing else to immortalize my pawn as a good sorc for anyone else going against it. Then again, if everyone is using the same assassin strat that I did to kill it, there's pretty much no reason for pawns unless you want them for offline.

So platinum in hand, beat the game twice, beat the endgame boss online, 200 hours logged: I'd have to be some kind of idiot to keep playing.

None of my friends seem to be playing this game except for two who are just starting and are using my pawn to wax everything that moves.

I'm around 50 right now. Rain maxed fighter, warrior and strider and is now a ranger.

Anyone wants to add me so I can gift pawns that are people still playing, and get mine loaned out and rated please do so.

So after Capcom more or less confirmed a sequel by wanting to make this a new ongoing franchise, the game's director said in an interview he really wants to make a sequel as well. Not only that, but he revealed some of the cuts for this game was taking out about 2/3rds of the game world. Lol, I can't imagine how much bigger this would've been had they kept it. I'm just glad there will be a sequel at least.

Ugh, now I've got KoA staring me in the face but I feel like I need some time to come down from the DD high or else I'll immediately reject it. After finishing the game three times, I debated starting fresh and new since the enemies can't even hurt me at level 118 but I hate the thought of losing my current save/pawn. Hopefully they allow you multiple saves in the second game.

You can back up your save to the cloud with PS Plus. You'd probably have to delete your 2nd save to play your first again, but it could be done.

It has a rougher learning curve, with plenty of hidden modifiers but figuring the game out is half the fun IMO. The combat is engaging and all the classes are well done except for warrior. As far as story, you won't get a rich experience like Skyrim but I'd still rate it above average.

I thought it was worth it but I'm a huge fan of Demon's Souls, so while this is nowhere near as punishing, it's more of a game like that. More of a traditional RPG if that makes sense. It's worth playing for sure though.

Hated that you lost souls or hated the gameplay? The gameplay is on par with DS, but you lose nothing but time for dying (if you make sure to save often) in Dogma. You won't die half as much in DD as well and at a certain point become invincible unless you like taking long walks off short cliffs lol.

I'll say that with DD it's more about the adventure than the challenge, whereas Souls is the other way around.

I would say the gameplay is much MUCH more polished on DD than DS. I didnt like DS because of the clunky non-intuitive controls. I liked Skyrim and didnt like KoA and I LOVE Dragons Dogma.

I would pick this one up and give it a chance. I wasnt going to buy it based on the little I played on the demo but after reading people say it is their game of the year so far I bit and couldnt be happier that I did.

Forgiving is the word I'd use. In DS, you had to put meaning in every strike because if you fucked up, the game let you know. With DD, it does half the work for you with dodge/parry moves and no possibility of being one-shot. Both systems are engaging though, in the fact that you can't just button mash and expect awesome results.
