Blu-rays don't save progress? Is that a limitation only on the PS3 or do standalone players have the same problem?

The blu-ray disc itself. Usually it's the cheaper quality ones that don't bother with that feature.

Not my words, but here is a simple explanation I saw on google:

The player's capability to store the previous position only works if the disc doesn't use Java authoring (BD-J).

If it does, it isn't possible for the player (BD-J adds an extra layer between the player and the contents). However, it is quite possible to implement such a function in Java itself. Some discs do just that; the developers of others were just too lazy.

The patches are fine, but they should fix it so, as the post you quoted noted, when you buy a digital game you get the latest version with all the patches already applied.

Or just make PSN not slow as molasses so downloads and updates aren't so painful.

Yeah, and another idea is if there is 10 patches of varying length (or more than one), at least tell me how much I am downloading GB wise upfront for all patches combined. It annoyed the shit out of me when I had to patch 10 times for GT5, not because it was 10 patches but I had no clue how big it was going to be. I don't have fast internet (125 kb/sec downloads), so it would be nice to know how long I am in for.

I do appreciate the constant updates though to improve the game. GT5 is the worst offender of patches but at the same time the best one to improve the game.

Am I the only one skeptical on this newfound reliance upon cloud gaming for the PS4? I'm in the states, and my cable internet is only adequate at best. After five minutes of OnLive I couldn't take it anymore, and since it's all based on internet I can't see Gaikai being any better. If it's the only way to get backward compatibility, I'm holding off until the first price drop.

The cloud service will allow you to play games as they're downloading... I'm sure there will be a buffer when you first start downloading but after that's done, you'll be able to play as a very efficient ARM chip handles background downloading. And even when the system is off, the ARM chip will continue download stuff in the background.

I'm sure there will be other problems related to cloud gaming (server issues, in game glitches, etc.) but I think Sony addressed the internet speeds part pretty well. The bigger problem with be download caps. With all the Netflix, online gaming and now cloud gaming... you can probably burn through 100+ GB caps pretty easily.

I was referring more towards the PS2/PS1/downloadable games played through PSN that apparently won't work on PS4 any other way than through Gaiki. If there was a rolling compatibility based off a new emulator (like the Vita is currently with PS1 titles), that would be more acceptable than any streaming nonsense. God Hand would be nigh unplayable streamed for me, as would a number of other action titles I have through PSN. Therefore, if that's going to be the only way to play current PSN titles, then I really don't think an upgrade is worthwhile, at least not until a price drop or a potential emulation solution.

I realized that you were talking about older games, but after thinking about it again... I see your point. I really can't imagine them going back to re-work every PS1/2/3 game to make sure it works on the cloud service.

I honestly don't think we'll see any native or emulated BC support on the PS4. Given how even PSN games won't work, I honestly think they designed the thing to NOT be BC so people buy into their cloud service.

I'm with you though. The lack of BC is my only major issue with the system (so far) and it's enough to keep me away unless the price is right.

Thanks for posting that, it was a good read. I'm a little creeped out by their desire for gamers to stop using aliases and go by their real names, though. I think anonimity gives a lot of people a sense of safety.

I thought it was mandatory but only your friends would see your real name? Still seems dumb to me if that's the case. I hope it is optional...

Nevermind, you are right. Even though you have to have your real name on file, nobody can see it unless you let them.

I will be shocked if they don't have a SKU at 399.99 or less and if their top end exceeds 499.99. I'm prepared to pay the latter, but any more and I'd consider a lesser SKU.

So a game like Borderlands 2 uses every button. Moving forward to the next gen developers are going to have to deal with 1 less button and/or cram it all on the options button. I'm not sure about you, but pressing the options button, then hitting X to confirm "in-game inventory" or "map" sounds annoying.

Unless I'm totally overlooking something, feel free to correct me.

Keep in mind there is a touchpad that can respond to two touches at once. If developers wanted too, they could probably split it in half and assign two "buttons" to the left and right side...just saying.

Figure Ill post it here too... PS4 will have 1/3 more graphics power.....and

Note that unlike the Xbox 360 vs. PS3 era, Sony's hardware advantage here won't need any clever developer work to extract - the architectures are near identical, Sony just has more resources available to use.

To be honest, I can't see what advantage the 1/3 more power is going to provide. Both systems are going to be able to be fully HD with all the trimmings.

It also has higher memory bandwidth. First party titles will look better from day 1 rather than after several years like the PS3. Multi-plat titles will either look better (through better textures, more AA etc) or run at higher framerates.

The Vita browser is actually really well done, so I think we are getting a new one for PS4.
