Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride shows up on the Fry's website for $5.88. Here's the link:

http://www.frys.com/product/5838683?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

You can't order it online, but you can set up a Store Pickup through the website.

I went to pick up my copy and found another Square Enix RPG for $5.88 -- Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time. Looks like you can order this one and have it delivered to your door. Another link:

http://www.frys.com/product/5838743?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

It seems like every time someone makes a trip to Fry's to pick up one of these titles, a new price drop is found. This list isn't comprehensive (yet), but here are some of the other titles that CAG's have found. All are for the Nintendo DS.

lol i bit this one at gamecrazy last week for $40 after worrying that it's going oos. im soooo returning it to gc tomorrow.

Is this game out of print? Amazon doesn't seem to have any, but buy.com does. Sadly, there's no Fry's here in the East.

Ya, for $37.69 a pop. :cold:
I'll go with Fry's.
Thanks OP for the heads up!

FYI: This game is long OOP. Stores have been unable to order new copies since early July. Amazon ran out in late June. If you want this game and manage to find it at ANY retailer...buy it. It's completely gone from the usual online/brick and mortar outlets. There's still a few online retailers that have new copies, but even those will be gone soon.

This is one SquareEnix DS game that won't be seeing a universal price cut...that's for sure. I'd love to find out what the actual print run was. Especially compared to DQIV (which still seems to be everwhere).

[edit: haha, beaten. Left halfway through the post and came back to finish without seeing if there were any new posts]

I think it's pretty clear that DQV is going out of print, so I'd have to say that, for those of us who have been waiting for a price drop and don't live in this mystical Fry-land I hear of so often, it's best just to bend over for Square-Enix and get it over with.

The most major piece of evidence that it's out of print is the fact that it didn't tank after two months like DQIV. S-E must have majorly overestimated the demand for the game and it seems they've decided to not make that mistake again. After seeing that it was OOS at Amazon, still full retail for authentic copies on ebay, and down to the last gutted copy at virtually all Gamestops, I got a really bad feeling that it was going to be rare before too long.

As was mentioned, buy.com is probably the best online option right now. I ordered mine from Newegg last week, but they gave me a notice that the item couldn't be shipped from a distribution center that can fulfill free shipping orders and charged me $3 extra :bomb: I don't regularly shop at buy.com so it didn't even occur to me to look there. Oh well.

It was actually in stock at Amazon a couple days ago for $36.99 again, so I figured they had finally gotten a restock, didn't see the hurry in buying. But then it disappeared again.

Good advice.

A similar thing happened with Final Fantasy 6 for GBA. FF4 came out and there were tons of copies everywhere, FF5 was almost the same story. Copies were everywhere, most stores had to clearance their overstock after a few months. FF6 comes out (arguably the best and most popular of the three) and it's hard to find after a few weeks. I wouldn't go so far to say FF6 for GBA is "rare", but it sure was hard to find and Square Enix certainly had less copies made.
Anyone live close to a Fry's that can pick this up for me? I can arrange for payment via pay pal. Thank you.

Will
I'll check what mine has, but I need one for myself.
Will BB pm a website special?
It's not a website special. That's the new store price at Fry's for the game. As long as you have a Fry's local to you, Best Buy should have no issue PM'ing the price.

Damn, I was expecting this to end up like DQIV... which I picked up for $20 from Amazon. But most places are OOS already...
I wonder if we will even get Dragon Quest VI DS over here.
I am sure we will, but you have to remember that this one was never ported to the PS2 so they have to remake it from the ground up, so to speak. Plus they just launched IX in Japan.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I know they've already announced that all three DS remakes will be released stateside, but the more time that passes before DQ6's turn comes around, the more time they have to change their mind.

I remember when that happened. FFIV Advance was still far in my GBA backlog at that time, so I didn't get my hands on VI. Fortunately though, in spite of the fact that Hong Kong's continual vomiting of endless fake carts into the market has created a high premium for legit copies of most good GBA games on ebay, a cart-only copy can still be had for ~$20.

I guess S-E has decided that catering to the small base that will pony up to their tax is ultimately a better option than releasing DS games with standard pricing to attract holdouts. There are plenty of S-E DS games that I would have day oned for $30, but instead waited months for or bought used. Those days might be over (well, maybe for non-Final Fantasy stuff.)
It's 1995 all over again! :whistle2:#
It already was when they didn't bring Sigma Harmonics and Nanashi no Game over :( Didn't S-E also refuse to confirm that they had plans to ever localize DQIX?

I still think it'll come out over here...but yeah, I've had the same feeling for a few months now.

I've been tracking it at Amazon. The price doesn't change much (a dollar or two), but it does come in stock once every couple weeks. It's not THAT hard to find yet.

I grabbed a copy of FFVI for GBA at Sears when it went on clearance for $4.97. Best $5 I ever spent ^___^!

FFCC:EoC is on clearance at Target for $19.98. If you are lucky, you might be able to pick it up for that price.

FFCC:RoF is $15.49 at Fry's (in-store). Is this a good price?

Gah, damn it. You didn't need to post that. I had just talked myself out of getting it but now I feel I should before it's too late. You, bastard. Really, though thanks for the info.

Just reiterating in case it can help anyone, the lowest online price for DQ5 right now (aside from $15 pirated carts on eBay) seems to be $37.69 w/ free shipping at Buy.com. If you don't have a Fry's nearby you might want to go ahead and snap one up before things get worse.
There are at least ten copies of DQV and twenty of FFCC: EoC (DS) available at the Roseville, CA location.
Thanks for the heads up, I live in Roseville... will hit it up after work tomorrow.

This is a very good sign that Square is doing another print run of this game. Fry's did the same thing for TWEWY and DQ4 before anyone else did - dropping the price and advertising them on sale.

And this was while everyone was worried that they wouldn't be getting another print run and people were thinking TWEWY was going to go through the roof in value. Now it's everywhere for less than $15 brand new.

I'm guessing that we will see this as a DOTD on amazon within a week or so...and that Fry's will have it advertised for $24.xx over the next few weeks, then it will drop to $19.xx and possibly $14.xx like TWEWY did.

Except this isn't an advertised sale, it's a price drop. Fry's has been discounting DS titles for the last few months and trying to move stuff that isn't selling like some of the recent Atlus and Square titles. Sales for DQ V have not been that good on the DS and as far as I know, there is no demand from retailers to do a second run. Heck, most Best Buy locations still have plenty in stock. I'm not claiming this will be rare, but at $24 and change, it seems like a decent deal.

Except for the fact that Square Enix stopped taking new orders for DQ5. I mentioned this in my first post. They only stop taking retailer orders when they're done printing copies...not when they're gearing up for another print run. As far as Square Enix's is concerned, this game is done. That's how the business works.
I saw Luminous Arc 2 for $23. You might want to add that to the title.
Yeah, I saw that too. There were actually a lot of DS titles that dropped, many of them decent. Most have been mentioned in this thread. If you go to Fry's, be sure to check all the DS titles (the other platforms, not so much).

Picked up DQ V and Steal Princess from OC Fry's this afternoon.

Steal Princess reminds me of Landstalker. I'm in love :D

I stopped by a GS earlier today. According to their inventory system, DQV is discontinued and out of stock at their SF bay area stores.

I was hoping for DQV to drop more, but it seems unlikely. I might just pick it up at Fry's.

Is Steal Princess ~$22 at the SF Bay Area Fry's? Can anyone confirm this?

I checked online and it is available for shipping at ~$22, but not for store pick-up.

Ships from and sold by J&R Music and Computer World.

Yes, I can confirm that Steal Princess is 21 in-store. Picked up my copy at Sunnyvale Frys. They have two copies left.
