Pc girl's thread to include info on Big Lots, Half Price Books, Books a Million&more

PcGirl

CAGiversary!
Hi Guys,

It's been suggested to me that it would be better for all CAGs for me to start my own thread. I have inside information on which closeout pc games are being shipped to major retailers in the country.

This thread will include info (meaning title specific deals) on:

Big Lots
Half Price Books
Books a Million
Oops Outlets
Inetvideo.com
Amazon.com
Gogamer.com
Five Below
Ollie's
Staples
Marshalls
TJ Maxx

Look for frequent postings to begin soon. I'm so excited!

Just a suggestion and hopefully it doesn't come out badly, but try to just update the first post with the games, where they were sent, the day they were sent, and the price. That way all the relevant topic info is in the first post so people won't need to hunt for it when this topic grows to hundreds of posts in the future.

Keep up the good work.

Should I include info on those?

They include Winners (who has games on the way today), The Bargain Shop and Liquidation World.

About how long does it take to get to store shelves once it's shipped to the retailer?

Every retailer is different. But Big Lots takes around 18 days for the East Coast and 25 days for the West Coast. But that last list I posted shipped 3 and a half weeks ago, so it should be in stores now.

Hope this helps.

PCgirl.:bouncy:

Nice to see you back on the boards PCGrrl.

@ BigLots Looks like I got lucky and found most of the copies from your new list!
...also picked up Mage Knight, hopefully it's good.

BIG LOTS has Guitar Hero: Modern Hits for the Nintendo DS with the grip for 20.00 bucks this week!!! I got the add in the mail. Not sure if this is national or YMMV. I am in Phoenix, AZ.

PC Girl, when did you guys start shipping to Books a Million? I don't remember seeing cheap games there before in the Richmond stores, but it's been a year since I've shopped in one (playing games means I don't read).

I saw one copy of Prince of Persia in an Atlanta-area Big Lots last week, so I guess I might have missed out on most of the shipment. Too bad-- would love to snag Mirror's Edge at that price.
Is minibox the word for the standard PC cardboard box these days?
the PC boxes that are 7 1/2 inch by 5 1/2 inch by 1 inch

or

the PC games that are in DVD cases which are only 1/2 inch thick.

Wow, great thread! Thanks PcGirl.

I'll have to see if we still have a Big Lots around here, the one I used to go to closed and became an Aldi. I'll be checking out 5 Below later this week for DMC4, and maybe Turok.

Motimer Beckettt $ 5.00
Cooking Academy $ 4.00
Ranch Rush $ 5.00
Mercenaries 2 World in Flames $ 6.00

Hey. Can you offer up an explanation of why some Big Lots get a ton of computer games but others do not? Maybe you have no clue but figured I would ask. The one closest me has a tiny selection of games constantly while another that I go to about 20 miles away if Im in the area always has tons.

I don't sell Big Lots (I work in the warehouse), but I know anytime anybody from the company travels anywhere, they have to do store visits since BL is such a good customer. I am told that we share your frustration. We go into one store and there are only older games. We go to the next town and there are four copies of one title. (which means they got at least four cartons) It's crazy! We have deduced that most stores get at least one carton automatically. I think the staff and regular CAGs buy up the good stuff fast. We think that it's up to the store manager after that. If they like gaming (or good selling merchandise), they order more. We think if they don't, then they don't order more. We really believe we could sell BL twice as much goods. But we understand that it's a monster organization and $ 4.00 and $ 6.00 rings at the register don't mean a whole lot. But if we keep getting good stuff in (like today we got Warhammer Mark of Chaos in), and we keep this thread strong (I'm really commited now) then we'll get more PC into BL. Let's do it together!

Definitely this! It's going to be extremely hard once this thread grows. Other than that, thanks a ton for doing this!!!!

Good thread, PcGirl. Looks like this will shape up nicely.
Awesome, I nominate this for a sticky.
That won't happen for this thread. I recommend everyone who is interested in the updates, that you Subscribe to this thread. Not long ago they started a small test in certain stores and are now rolling it out to over 170 stores. There's a strong likelihood your store will have them soon. Their standard price is $6.97 on the games, but you can also get 10% off if you have their discount card. They have a pretty strong selection - last I noticed Tomb Raider Anni., PoP, and a few others. Worth a look for sure - from what I know it should be in most of those stores within the next two weeks. Check either near the front of the store or near the Graphic Novel section if you don't see it at first.

The BL in my city has a small rack that seems to be over flowing. Hopefully, I could find something interesting like warhammer. Thanks for the updates!

Thanks PC Girl for the info! :D

You might already know this but there's a hidden one near that Target.

Are the margins just that much higher/cost that much lower on PC games that we don't see Big Lots or HPB picking up $5 360/Wii titles?

There's no MS/Nintendo/Sony cut of the production costs to worry about I suppose. HPB selling Mirror's Edge on 360 for $10 new everywhere might not fly so well with the Best Buys and GameStops trying to sell their $20/$18 used versions though. Interesting that EA would print copies of Mirror's Edge on PC for so cheap, but console versions need to go for double.

Dropped by Big Lots yesterday and picked up Act of War: Direct Action ($4), Prince of Persia ($6), and Downfall: The Longest Journey Game of the Year Editon ($6). I was on the fence about Mercenaries 2, I might go back to pick that up. I also got a handful of DVDs for $3 each.

DQ TYCOON is worth 4... too bad im not going to drive everyplace trying to find a copy at Big lots..

4.00 + gas = 7 easy... Can just download it off bigfishgames for 7

now if there was more then 1 title yes i can see lookin but i think i pass

thanks for info though

Sony/MS/Nintendo get a cut of each console game. No company really owns the PC in the same way.

The last time I looked, there was a royalty fee of $ 7.00 per game to the hardward manufacturer. There is no such royalty for PC games. If you wanted to make your own game and call if whatever you wanted, you could. It's the reason PC closeouts are available to cheap. Typically all the publisher want to cover is the "cost of goods" or GOGS. It's usually a couple of bucks or a little more with fancy boxes and multidisc sets.

PCgirl;)

Yeah I guessed as much in my post. Interesting that's it's $7 per even if the title is retailing for $20.

So, before publisher/developer costs get involved, there's around $10 of that going to hardware and manufacture.. No wonder they're so eager to get sales at the $40-60 level before dropping to $20/30..
