So it might have been mentioned but our fellow CAGer MHC ran into a little hurdle when listing more cards on the marketplace: apparently if you list more than 155 things in a year you need to provide Valve with your name, address, and... SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER? Uh... I don't think so. I checked and I'm already at like 115 items sold. Guess I'll have to be selective now 'cuz I'm damn sure not giving them my SSN.
Weird the legal number is actually 200 at the moment. Perhaps Valve is preparing those getting close to 200 transactions early to let them know what's up.

It's actually a new federal law in the US (where Valve operates). It's the same way now with eBay, Paypal, and others. Receive over 200 "payments" online and the company is required to send you a form 1099-K that must be filed with your taxes. This is why your social security number is required.

Asking $50 for it.  Only one on the market.  Will also trade for $200 Amazon GC.

Additionally, if you read the FAQ it also tells you that Valve doesn't have to do anything with that information until your profits from the market go above a certain treshold (don't remember the exact number) so there should be much to worry about if all you're doing is trading cards.

That's true. The current law says 200 transactions AND $20,000. However, a lot of companies are paranoid because the speculations is that before the end of the year the law may change to 200 transactions OR $20,000.

Last year I exceeded both (not on the Steam Marketplace, obviously) and had to pay the tax.

Which makes someone wonder - if you paid taxes on your Steam marketplace "gains", could you write off the cost of the games on your taxes? I'm no accountant (was going to be one, but changed majors in college - see Idiotekques chart a few pages ago) but it seems reasonable to me!

Still not so wild about giving Valve my SSN.  They were hacked once. Granted none of the CC info got used (apparently) but... meh.

...said the man stomping his feet because Gabe hasn't thrown him a new game quickly enough yet
Hmmm? Sorry, but that fat f*cking LIAR Gabe Newell said that the reason for episodic gaming was that it would allow them to kick out smaller segments faster than full games would take. ORLY? How has that worked out? Episode 2 came out in October 2007! It has been 5 years 9 months since then and we're still waiting for the last chapter of the trilogy. In comparison was SIX YEARS between Half-Life's release and the release of Half-Life 2, including the 14-month delay past the originally promised street date.

We were left hanging with an unfinished story that broke on an intense down note. There is absolutely no reason the third chapter, which would've been just 4-6 hours long like the others, should've taken longer than the 16-20 months the first two took. Remember when Gabe initially promised that they'd have episodes out in six months? Bwahahahahahaha!!!! Eat some more, you fat lying f*ck!!!

In almost the time it took Valve to make the Source engine and the entirety of Half-Life 2 - including the delays because Gabe kept eating the hard drives with the work on it because he'd heard they were a good source of iron - we haven't heard squat about where the promised Episode 3 is or if it's ever going to come. Whenever anyone asks, Gabe eats them and says, "Look, you chumps. Party hats! Trading cards you can sell for a quarter! Love me! GET INTO MAH BELLY!!!" and the chumps think he's the ginchiest. Pffft.

Valve should just announce, "Hey, you know Episode 3? Well, it's off with the rest of the SiN Episodes. Sorry about that, but we're working on something really cool to make up for it. Have some hats and cards while you wait, mmmkay? kthxbai!" but that would require some honesty and based on Valve's history, that's not gonna happen until they are run by someone whose only two abilities aren't eating and lying.

Figured "why the hell not" and picked up Gun Monkeys and idled for cards while making CAG cards for ya'll.

I got lucky and sold the cards for a whopping total of $10.97.  Crazy shit right there.

The game seems like it sucks.  I played a few rounds between pasting images and I'm really glad I was able to sell the cards for more than the game cost.

I hit the same limit a month or so ago (it seems like listing and removing counts towards that limit - I'm sure that I haven't sold that many things this year.) I had to re-enter my name and address and check a box that says I'm not a US citizen (or similar.)

Last year I exceeded both (not on the Steam Marketplace, obviously).
Sure, sure, you dirty card scalper you.

Yeah it's a pretty safe bet atm, I just sold 1 so far for $4.36. I'm just scared people will begin to realize this and drive the prize crazy down so I'm just trying to do fast deals.

(If anyone is gonna do this I'm in US server 1 if you want to play while waiting, :p)

So whats the limit point at which we can start crafting badges from these?

He probably just ate the hippie gumbo

EDIT: Just a note, trying to search "king of the hill hippie gumbo" for relevant images on bing (cause google was surprisingly lame) yielded interesting results...(safe search off of course)

Hey guys,

I just got a foil drop and wanted to offer it here before listing it in the market.  Only asking for $500 for this one.

Looks like Final Fantasy 7 is going to be on Steam. I was seeing if FF14 was on there (wanted to see if it had a different preorder stuff from the one I preordered at GMG) and when I typed Final into the search box, FF7 comes out. No pictures or store page yet, but it is showing up now.

Squirrel has come along way from the days where he'd just pop in and say "Darn, I don't think it's Linux compatible!" Look at him now, he even has his own CAG Steam card.

Don't lie, you like a white background... all the better to burn our eyes with. (My pink-dominant avatar makes it easy for me to spot my posts.)

If I were I think that would be below "CAG Trading Card Maker" on my list of career choices graph a few pages back.

Seriously though - I live a bizarre life. If I would have known last year that international hat smuggler was even a thing, I would have probably been doing it.

If, by "international hat smuggler", she means "legitimate hat importer", I think your future would be more secure in that role than in designing CAG trading cards.

Modeled by actress Alicia Witt at Christie’s in London, “Chapeau d’Amour”—the “hat of love”—was created by celebrity couture designer Louis Mariette. Made of woven platinum and covered in stunning diamonds, the hat was inspired by ivy and bluebells.

The hat is valued at $2.7 million, making it the most expensive hat in the world.

$2.7e6 ... that sure explains the nervous as all heck look on her face. ...I wonder what hat sizes it's available in... ...or maybe she's just hoping the dress doesn't highlight to people how her right boob is bigger than her left boob.

On that note, everyone who doesn't have a CAG Card avatar now seems woefully inadequate and needs to get with the program :bomb:

So it might have been mentioned but our fellow CAGer MHC ran into a little hurdle when listing more cards on the marketplace: apparently if you list more than 155 things in a year you need to provide Valve with your name, address, and... SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER? Uh... I don't think so. I checked and I'm already at like 115 items sold. Guess I'll have to be selective now 'cuz I'm damn sure not giving them my SSN.
They asked me yesterday. It wasn't much of a surprise to me as I've done the same for eBay and amazon. I am at like 160 or so items. Valve just wants to get the info before they lock you out. It's good customer service.

Told you there was gold in 'dem hills.

Yep, that's Valve for you. Best customer service on the planet. ;)

Kid: Mommy, what's my social security number?

Mom: Why do you need it, hun?

Kid: I'm selling these trading cards on this website called Steam for money that I can only use to buy things from this site. I've already sold 115 cards so far, and the website needs my social security number before I can sell more.

Sometimes I wake up, read this thread, and nothing registers.

Today I woke up, read this thread, and it was full of awesome. I love the places we go to sometimes - it's like a magical mystery tour!

jshackles - I owe you a pint. Will sort out my avatar tonight.

Also, RELEVANT GAME CHAT - I played War of the Roses for the first time in a while last night and I kinda enjoyed it. It feels a little "deeper" than Chivalry (which felt kinda arcadey to me) and has some interesting mechanics - squads, mounted combat, reviving downed team members etc. I'm not sure I'll stay with it but I'm certainly more impressed with it than I was the first time I played it.

p.s. YORKSHIRE YORKSHIRE YORKSHIRE

along with 8, 9, X, (not X2), and XII. Nah, actually only need XII on PC since original PS3 took a dive and now I'd actually have to break out the PS2 to play it.
I actually had fun with X-2. It didn't take itself so damn seriously like every other Final Fantasy game, and it was actually fun.

But I'm probably in the minority there.
