Ill play counterpoint and say it isn't worth it.

If you are looking for nostalgia, maybe, but if you want to be blown away like when it was first released, I think youll be disappointed. I played it back then and got a kick out of being able to finally play on full detail and high-res, but actually playing it now, the movement seems "loose" and the camera gives me nausea. Unless you're super into HL2 and want to get the entire backstory, the anthology is likely to just sit in your inventory. You may eventually install one or two of the titles, but even then, itll only be for one play session before moving on to more current titles.

I'd suggest going with Black Mesa if you really want to experience the world.

If you are set on biting, go with the anthology. The game wasn't really designed with Source in mind and I think the newer phsyics made some sections more frustrating than in the original.
I played HL2 on the 360 years ago, never finished it, and a couple months ago I jumped into HL1. For as dated as it was, it's a really solid game and the story is cool. I can see why it wouldn't appeal to everyone, but I'm not even a big HL fan, nor a FPS fan, and I still had fun with it...

My free mic headset from yesterday got cancelled because I didn't qualify :( But they didn't ask me if I qualified. I might have...lol
LOL, I figured that would happen. When I bitched about no free shipping to Hawaii to their support they sent me this:

"Hello Cameron,

Thank you for your interest in SmartMusic.

It looks like you are looking to place an order using a promotional code for Educators that are new to the SmartMusic program. The code was given on our website after the music educators had completed specific tasks. Unfortunately you have not met the requirements to fulfill this order so we will not be able to process your request for the free microphone.

Please feel free to respond to this case if you have any further questions about this issue.

Yeah, I have to agree with this. You don't need to be big on Half-Life to really enjoy the anthology. HL1 is a great game, and holds up very well. Yes, the graphics are dated, but the gameplay holds up fine. I played it maybe 1 1/2 years ago without playing it before and was completely satisfied with it.

For anybody that pre-ordered The Walking Dead directly from Telltale, check your email, apparently we get 400 Days for free (if you DL it from Telltale).  I already traded for 400 Days on Steam to go with my Steam copy, but thought it was a very nice gesture (if a little late).

I played HL2, slogged through the horribly tedious boat sequence, went thought the "oh, gee... zombies" platformer part, reached the dune buggies and said "fuck this" and never looked back. I have no idea why that game is lauded; it was terribly paced, boring as crap and unengaging. The best excuse I've heard for it is "Well, you had to play it when it was new" which might be true. But whatever innovation it had at the time has been done better since.

Never played HL1 though.

I did like Ravenholm though, in a "this place SUCKS" kind of way.

Anyone get the achievement for beating the area entirely using only the gravity gun? Seems like that experience would feel like a giant sawblade = Companion Cube: HL2 edition.

Anyone notice that Bundlestars bundle is now listed as $0.00???

Checkout is through Paypal and seems to be converting it to 3.20 pounds sterling. But - weird.
They're ALL showing up as $0.00 for me.

EDIT: Added all their bundles to my cart, lmao.

"Total Due: US$0.00

All payments are taken in GBP; US$0.00 is approximately £9.02"

Sadly, not free once PayPal comes up.

Jumped on the anthology as I've never played a Half-Life game before. And $10 for what you get isn't that bad. Started in on the first one a few hours ago and found what I played to be enjoyable.

What's all this crazy talk in here about some people maybe not liking Half Life 2? That's crazy. All that talk.

Ravenholm is not that bad, I did that whole level with the gravity gun + sawblades/exploding barrels, the only difficult part was the very last section where you wait on a rooftop for the lift to get you across to the church for safety. There is not a lot of room to move around and you get ambushed by about 6-8 of the fast moving zombies and it you have to kill them all with a couple of sawblades which is difficult since if you don't shoot them at the right angle the sawblades will fly right off the edge. I played this in offline mode so of course I didn't get any achievements for it (which kinda sucks)

Can't wait for the STEAM sale on Thursday, hoping Ys 1&2 will get a discount.
Yeah that's what I'm hoping for. I think it'll probably be 66% off during a flash sale or something, like what happened with Ys Origin and Oath in Felghana for their first seasonal sale.

Valve cancelled summer.

There's still going to be a sale, but they need another week to figure out what to rebrand the period of time between June 21 and September 21.

Don't worry, the boys in marketing are on it.

I think I got both games during that sale, missed the flash sale for Origins so I got it for like $12.50, and picked up Oath for $5 even though I have the PSP version. But yeah hopefully I won't miss the sale for 1&2.

Yeah, it just collects the info from HLTB so the info isn't his fault. The guy said he is going to make an option to remove purely multiplayer only titles and remove whatever title you want as well. Like I said, not perfect, but it is fun to see. Sure it may be off a fair % but it still gives you a ballpark.

Yeah it's pretty cool. Definitely keeping my eye on that. If it gets improved quite a bit I'll probably put a link to it in Enhanced Steam.

Creator of the site here, thanks for posting it here! It's been a long time since I've been on CAG, but I noticed a fair amount of hits coming from here, so figured I'd check out what people were saying about it.

There's definitely some problems with it, as well as things that skew the results. It was mostly just something I threw together over this past weekend while at home somewhat sick. Didn't expect there to be as much interest in it as there was, haha. I think the biggest problems are games with weird numbers on HTLB, games without numbers on HLTB (because like it was mentioned, games like Back to the Future don't take 10+ hours to beat), and multiplayer only games.

I think I'm going to subtract a few hours from the averages since games with huge playtimes tend to push that value too high. I'm thinking something around 8 hours for main stories and 20-25 hours for completion would be good numbers.

As for multiplayer only games, that's my next goal. I just completely took out some of them that were causing the most grief (TF2, Dota 2), but I want to give you the option to filter them out or not, depending on your preference.

Also, in the GAF thread, we came up with the idea of letting you indicate in your games list whether you've beaten a game or not. Since I've already grabbed the hours you've put into a game, I can use those numbers in addition to the HLTB values to hopefully improve accuracy over time. This could also give you more accurate numbers in terms of percentage of your Steam collection you've beaten.

jshackles: I had never heard about Enhanced Steam, but I took a look since you mentioned it, and it's awesome!

I'll definitely keep you guys up to date on the progress of the site, if there's interest.

Well, in that case I'll be sticking around then. Also, I think you taught me a new word today. I will have to use flagellate in regular speech now.

Doing something more sophisticated with the percentage completed stat might be kind of neat.

Right now it seems to just be Total playtime / Estimated completion time, but if you were to somehow cancel out playtime for games that had already reached their completion limit it would make the number more accurate. As in, if HLTB has the main quest in Skyrim at 31.5 hours, but somebody has played 200 hours of Skyrim, only 31.5 hours of that playtime count toward the stat for percentage of main story completed. It's not anything near a perfect solution, of course, but it does eliminate the problem that SolidSnakeEyes had the other day of his Main Story Completion stat coming up as 106%.

Neat site, though! I'm excited to see what kind of things you do with it in the future.

I'm going to assume naiyt is jshackles' successor, since SG1>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Atlantis. ;)
Wait a second.

You're telling me that jshackles isn't the man in his avatar?

I want to buy one racing game but I dont know which I should get. I got 1-3 friends that will buy the same game as I do. So which game is better and runs better on the PC (I dont want to play a fuck pc port with no 360 support & locked at 30FPS).

Burnout Paradise Ultimate
or
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit?

Thanks!
They are both good and both well performance optimized on PC. For your purposes, it's the difference between taking each other out by slamming into each other or adding caltrops & EMP guns to the mix.

What's the proper protocol for sacrificing a fried chicken to Gaben?

Search the scriptures!

Do I need to festoon my monitor with garland and lights, and leave a plate of chicken and a glass of milk nearby?

Why is your monitor not already festooned?

Do I tuck a drumstick under my pillow when I go to sleep at night?

You do that anyway. ^_~

Do I dip the chicken in festively-colored dyes, and then hide the pieces in random locations in my house?

I tried this once... kept the kittycats busy.

Or do I just leave a bucket in front of Gaben's picture, Jobu-style?

Always a solid choice.
Lazy inlined response above.

My free mic headset from yesterday got cancelled because I didn't qualify :( But they didn't ask me if I qualified. I might have...lol
I can't find on Hallmark's site where the option to send flaming dog poo is...

There's a plane on the Mystery Card now. Not sure if that adds any information on what it does.

Sorry I didn't link it back to the GAF page. I had opened the site in a tab but didn't go to it right away and closed that GAF tab and well I forgot and was lazy to go back lol. I would have posted in the GAF thread but I don't have an account over there since my only none free email account I have that I can use to sign up the site I use for business only and I do not give it out anywhere.

I thought it was pretty cool and just wanted to share it. Since so many of us here have giant backlogs it was interesting to see and I figure it would be popular here, or depressing depending on the time estimate lol

It's popular and depressing. It's not an either/or.

And more fun that an a bottle of barbiturates.

When I finally got around to seeing the Godfather, I couldn't understand what all the fuss was about. It took me a while to realize that it was because of all the derivative films I'd seen beforehand, and it wasn't until subsequent rewatchings that I came to appreciate the original.

I didn't mind HL2's boat sequence (and the road and beaches and wilderness sequences) because the original had such a claustrophic, fleeing-down-corridors feel, and the open (yet linear) landscapes felt fresh. But I can understand how the silent protagonist shtick gets old. What drove me nuts was (SPOILERY) the lack of a clear explanation of what the hell happened to GF and Earth in between 1 and 2. I probably haven't read enough wiki.

Didn't see this posted, but Gearbox is giving out SHiFT codes for Borderlands loot through Sunday. Each redeems for stuff for a different character.

Beware that the item will be of the same level as the first character you load. If you're really low level you may wish to wait.

It's not really worth worrying about redeeming it, it's not a unique class mod and the rarity is even random (some people are getting whites and greens even). You will most likely find better from playing or the golden chest.

Alyx is what did it for me.

When I steal an Oculus Rift eventually, we're gonna go to a beach together and walk on it for a long time. Nerdy but f--- it.

There's a plane on the Mystery Card now. Not sure if that adds any information on what it does.
It's Oceanic Flight 815! We've got to go back!

It leads to D.B. Cooper's stash of -25% L4D2 coupons.
Which by today's inflation are like -50% L4D2 coupons!

Anyone notice that Bundlestars bundle is now listed as $0.00???
Damn you for making me have a quick hope for free steam games!

Jumped on the anthology as I've never played a Half-Life game before. And $10 for what you get isn't that bad. Started in on the first one a few hours ago and found what I played to be enjoyable.
Now my young padawan, you shale experience the awe and pleasure of the HL and HL2 modding community!

I noticed a fair amount of hits coming from here
Typical CAG...

I'm going to assume naiyt is jshackles' successor, since SG1>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Atlantis. ;)
I'm gonna say it, Atlantis sucks! SG-1 was fantastic, but Atlantis felt WAY too cheesy/corny/campy/whatever

Would I be branded a heretic if I told you I've never seen an Stargate besides the movie? =D
Not really, if anything you should be glad you're not one of the other way around people. Kinda like Dr. Who fanatics who basically don't even know there was anything pre-2005.

Alyx is overrated and totes ugly imho, now Oculus Rifting walking down the beach with D0G and we're talkin' ;)
