Tempted by La-Mulana, currently $5 as part of the Greenlight sale. (yes I know it would be a 66% sin, I wouldn't be posting if 75%, I'd be playing)

Has anyone played it? Any impressions or recommendations? Looks like an unusual, intricate game, kind of Dark Souls-ish in that way..?
It's absolutely excellent if you enjoy the style of game. Get it (or get my extra key).

Hotline Miami's sountrack is overrated. At first it seems great, but it doesn't have staying power over a few hour playthrough. It's not bad, just overrated.

Not overrated at all, it's one of the best soundtracks I have heard ever.  The guys who make the music are awesome, Perturbator, Scattle, MOON, just to name few make incredible music by themselfs.  Maybe for somebody who doesn't like electronic music that much it's not the best, but it is the best.

From the PixelJam newsletter:

Hello all, Miles from Pixeljam here again with another update.

First up, Dino Run SE has FINALLY been greenlit and will be coming to Steam in the next few months. We're going to update and upgrade the game before it goes live, so all Dino Run fans can expect major improvements, similar in scope to the one we made from Dino Run to Dino Run SE. Exciting!

For anyone that is interested in La-Mulana, just PM me, I think I have an unused key from Desura that will activate on Steam.

Edit: Gone

No, it does not.

I want them to define "buyers"

I have it on Desura but I got it from a bundle or CAG. They should try to hook the masses to generate dat buzzz doe; I think we're safe.

Does Uplay have gifting in their store? Gunslinger is currently 50% off in there. But apparently like Origin, they thought I live in Europe.

Edit:

To make my post not OT here is the newest BL2 shift code  (3 Golden Keys): CJKTJ-H9R5R-CTHBJ-3TT3B-BB6HC

The lead PA dev is kind of a douche. They also had some kind of payment dispute with Groupees so I wouldn't be entirely surprised if they didn't give out keys.

Solid game, just very difficult. It's a Metroidvania with brutal puzzles, quick deaths, and so many secrets it's ridiculous. Dark Souls is a close comparison.

Probably the best platformer in years, though. I prefer They Bleed Pixels myself (they aren't all too similar), but it's really an awesome game.

it was in a groupees bundle, so you might be able to get it cheaper in the trading thread.
Eh, maybe, maybe not. Even when they were all over the place in the trade thread, they were going for $5 and sometimes $4. $5 on Steam may still be the best price. The last few keys I saw on the trade thread were $7, I believe (scarcity and all).

Totally agreed.

Electronic music is up there as one of my favorite genres, and HM's soundtrack didn't grab me either. It's pretty experimental, which is cool, but I found myself annoyed with it sometimes. Like Preed said, it doesn't have much staying power, at least for me. I couldn't tell you that I remember any tune whatsoever in that game, and I played it a good bit.

Music is always super subjective for each person, of course. Lots of people love it, but I feel like it gets more praise than it deserves. I'd take the They Bleed Pixels soundtrack over it any day (also very electronic, chiptuney, just catchier and more interesting imo). I actually bought that soundtrack.

No, it does not.
Some did, probably if you activated the Desura key pretty early. I had three copies of La-Mulana I believe, and of the two that I activated on both my Desura accounts, both gave me Steam keys. That said, I activated the second one a long while after the first... and I still got a Steam key, so I have no idea what determines it.

They changed their screen where you generate keys a little while back and it seems like maybe the people who grabbed the Steam keys before that got it and after didn't. Or at least that's my theory. :p

I know I can't generate one now but I never did try back when it first hit Steam.

Ok, I am officially hooked on buying games on my GOG and Steam account. I was so used to consoles, in regards to game prices, that....well, I just cant say no to all the crazy deals on the PC side. Between the sales and the bundles....well, I am completely out of control, lol. Whats weird is I am usually a big proponent for buying physical copies of games as then you actually own the game and your able to sell it used and get some of your money back, if you ever decide to sell. So I am not sure why I am suddenly all about digital copies now, although I will admit its really nice having all of your PC games in a digital library, right at your fingertips. I am also really impressed with Steam Workshop. Now that is definitely one aspect to PC games that are just vastly superior to the console versions. Its a shame MS doesn't start something like that for the XBox Platform. Unfortunately my PC is really old so its not a good gaming machine at all (I am primarily a Mac user). So I have to wait until I finish building my gaming PC, which I started last month, before I can actually play most of the games I have been buying, lol. I didn't realize how much more expensive the console side is in regards to games.

Oh, by the way, I have a some extra keys for a few games, from buying bundles that had games in it that I already owned. I am more than happy to just give those away. Where is the best place to offer those up? Is it ok for me to just list the keys in this thread and let people have them on a first come first serve basis? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The best way to do it is post here saying what you have, and then asking people to PM you if they want something on a first come first served basis (probably with a one game per person limit). Otherwise keys dropped here tend to get lurked.

Anyone have any recommendations on DLC Quest? Seems like a fun game especially for $.75
It's humorous, but it's not much of a "game". It's just a big parody on gaming in general with all the emphasis on DRM. You'll probably get like 1-2 hours out of it, a lot of which will feel a bit like a chore, but it's good for laughs and 75 cents is pretty damn cheap.

You'll get cards from it which you can sell too, making the game ever cheaper.

Thanks! I appreciate it, and I just purchased it. Even if I get an hour out of it i'd be happy lol. All these steam deals can end up making me break the bank soon enough. I seen some other games that caught my eye.

I really liked DLC quest. Not only because I think it's a part of the industry that's gone way out of control and needs to be satired, but also I actually like the gameplay. It was short of course, with the second part being a bit longer and more involved than the first. I liked that it wasn't balls ass hard though like most retro indie games are these days.

I'm not as hand eye coordinated as I used to be and it's kind of nice to play something (besides a visual novel :p) that I don't totally suck at.

It's a 1-hour tour through the world of gaming-forum Zeitgeist and played-out 8-bit gags; its brain-dead designers serve as your guides for the evening.

mmmmmmmm that's good trolling - I'm thirsty now. RollingSkull must be spending a fortune on Brita filters.

Yeah, the second campaign is much more involved than the first. Lots more platforming and whatnot. The first campaign was funny, but it felt like a whole lot of just walking around to progress.

RE: DLC Quest - It's like 75 cents, which is the max you should pay for such a short and easy game. There are a few comedic elements, but nothing in it stands out. But it's cheap, and it has cards. Exceed cards still go for 40-50 cents, so just sell a couple of those and get it, eses.

If you want to avoid re-downloads, you can back-up most of these files yourself - whether onto DVD discs; BR discs; external hard-drive; and/or internal hard drive; whatever. Up to you.

For GOG games -> just back up your game installer folders & patch files somewhere.

On a reinstall of a game - run EXE file from game installer folder; then run any patches you have.

For Steam games -> Either...

1) Use the Steam back-up utility and copy those game-folder files wherever.

On a reinstall, just run the EXE file in the game-folder; run Steam; and let the game update (if it needs one).

2) OR just back-up your actual game-folder somewhere.

When reinstalling a game, just copy game back to its location in the Steam folder and run Steam program. Verify game's cache, if it won't update.

NOTE: More detailed info here on Steam's website on all of this.

Many prefer to just back-up their actual game-folder.

Steam back-up utility doesn't always work, when reinstalling.

For Origin games published by EA -> For games you download from them, just back-up your actual game folder, wherever you have it installed.

On reinstall - copy game-folder back to where you have Origin games installed; run Origin; game should be on your list; then click Install.

So weird, I've been looking at this for the past 20 minutes, lol.

This deserves the support so damn much. Fuuuuck Capcom, yo.
they're gonna raise over 2 mil easy

i think i might pull the trigger

just reading all the devs resumes they posted is getting me hype

That is amazing. Internal struggle to decide if I want to give or not. My cheap ass in me says wait till sale of game...but...its...Inafune. The rest of the team has extensive experience too. This game should be very memorable.

Is it weird that I'm a super CAG normally when it comes to purchasing games, but have now backed 20 successful Kickstarter video game projects? Something just feels different helping to fund a game's creation that I'm interested in instead of just purchasing a game outright that has already been created.

I know right? Kickstarter done right, right there.

I'd throw in $20 if I had it. Maybe I should do some streetwalking tonight...
you wouldn't get charged until halloween

only thing causing me to pump my brakes is that they're shooting for an april 2015 release

on one hand you know it won't be some indie flash retro shitshow and should be highly polished, but on the other that's a looong ways off

my question to you is: how many of those have you enjoyed (the ones released that is)? (honest question, no sarcasm)

I have nothing against kickstarting games. Been in six already. I always regarded kickstarter as a way to make projects happen that might otherwise never happen (bearing the risk of receiving a poor product or even nothing in the end, which is always a possibility). It's a way for consumers to vote with their wallets for things publishers may not be willing to risk.

But for kickstarters where it's essentially guaranteed to make it's goal, I find the choice to be either A) pay full kickstarter price now to ensure they have extra budget to make the game great or B) wait until it's on sale post kickstarter CAG style.

goddamn, i might have to break my 'no videogame kickstarters' rule for this

Inafune saying fuck capcom and putting a (spiritual) new megaman on STEAM?

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mightyno9/mighty-no-9

ughhhhh
Damn.... I judge kickstarters mainly by who's behind them... damn. I might very well back this one.

It is, for the most part your funding makes development possible / better (more content etc). That said I've only backed 5 games... mostly by the original people behind earlier works (Wasteland 2, Carmageddon, Shadowrun, LSL)... and one set of nobodys.(Banner Saga)...

I love Van Helsing. So fun. It's like Torchlight, only the story makes sense. :p
You missed an ARPG discussion a few pages back, but surprisingly I don't think Van Helsing was mentioned. I think I'm going to have to pick that up next sale, assuming it hits $5 or so, I've seen a bunch of CAGs recommending it ^_^

Yeah - I'mma have to check out that Van Helsing APRG when it gets cheap of course, as well.

Y'all know I'm an ARPG addict.

I'm very selective about the games I Kickstart, but when I do back one, I usually go for one of the higher tiers with physical rewards.  That way, I've really contributed to the project, and even if the game by itself goes on sale not long after release, I still have things that made my prepurchase distinct.

I'll probably back the Inafune game later on when they've had a chance to add flex goals and new reward tiers, if appropriate.

I'm so glad to hear the overhead tac-cam is back for Dragon Age: Inquisition:

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/127363-Dragon-Age-Inquisition-Brings-Back-Tactical-View-PAX-2013

This time, the tac-cam will be on the PC and consoles.
I read Mike 'Awesome Button' Laidlaw's name and stopped reading.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SV97ozaD4vs

As much as they talk about going back to some of the old ways, to me he just represents the new direction of Bioware which is something I'm not interested in.

I'll get DA3 when goes free with $10 rebate on sale at new egg.

There's more than "talk about the old ways" here.

As GameBanshee reports - some vIdeos from PAX Prime 2013 are out, showing the tac-cam actually returning & in action.

Interesting enough - they're using Planescape: Torment as an inspiration (for having multiple choices + having characters to love/hate where there's nothing in-between).

Sure, this is still a year off, at least - we'll just have to wait and see how it all turns out, sometime down the line...

{shrug}

I'll get DA3 when goes free with $10 rebate on sale at new egg.
Maybe by then, 9 pieces of DLC will be out. ;)
