So, I finally got around to trying out Euro Truck Simulator 2 (which is on sale on Steam today for $8.74 for anyone who would like to partake in some trucking goodness...still no multiplayer, sadly) with the new Oculus Rift beta support. And man, it's actually really good. Going back to what I was talking about earlier, I think it makes a huge difference when the game developer actually takes the time to reprogram things in the game to be compatible, rather than just forcing a game with simulated 3D and essentially turning the Rift into a mouse. SCS reworked the HUD so that it's more toward the lower center of the screen and can be toggled to be transparent or off entirely).
They also made the view inside the cabin 3D, so things like the steering wheel, shifter, seats, etc. actually look more realistic. I was just playing with an Xbox controller, but man, it felt really immersive and normal...like I was actually driving around in Italy. I even backed the truck in (took me a few tries of straightening out, but hey...I'm rusty, lol). I can only imagine what it will be like playing with a wheel and pedals with the Rift on. Now, if only they'd come out with an Ice Road Truckers expansion, haha.
