I have no problem w/ modern-day style of shooters. My problem is that that style is a surplus of them.

We need more variety here - we need some old-school style shooters; some modern-day shooters; and of course some other shooters to totally do something DIFFERENT.

I used to really dig in the old Doom, Quake and DN3D days, you really did have to find your way through a level - you had to figure out where to go; where to get the item needed to advance to next area (often, they were different colored keys); find secret areas; etc etc. I wish we'd have MORE of that, since there ain't much of that style anymore.

I'm fine w/ tunnel-vision linear-corridor shooters like COD, but can we dial the plethora of these back a bit?

Of course, I really liked that STALKER series on the SP-side was pretty much an open-world FPS experience.

In Far Cry 2 and 3. you take a knife, jam it into the wound, and rip the bullet out. I don't know how this healed headshots (most of the time killed), but I liked it. Far Cry 1 used the old system of health packs. Waiting behind a wall for a few seconds to heal makes about as much sense as crushing a med kit with your foo to heal like t in older FPS games.

Agreed, but at least it's implied that you're applying the med kits to yourself when you find them. It's not regen-heal-Jesus stuff. I guess healing and scavenging supplies is something the Left 4 Dead series does well.

Well my GTX 680 order just got cancelled. Not too surprised by that. I still have several orders "processing", but I expect most, if not all, of those to get cancelled. Biggest ticket item would be a 58" Toshiba TV which was listed at $224.86.

Much to my suprise though, this has apparently shipped. My price? $20.73. So I can at least say that I got something out of it.

EDIT: Well my 6TB external Hard drive ($45) just got cancelled too. Looks Like I'll have to find another solution for all my clown porn storage needs.

I don't want to get into too much detail because its sort of hush hush, but the self healing system in those games is based on the scientifically proven human centipede principle. What goes out is just processed and reintroduced as energy with healing processes. Like I said, probably 2deep4u so I'll stop there.

Same bag for me. Got 'em all. Probably going to buy a bunch of bundles anyway and pass them around to steambuddies. Always can use more leaderboard fillers. For anyone who might be debating whether or not to pick up the 2nd tier, I highly recommend the Marvel Avengers Chronicles pack. Ridiculously awesome tables in that one, 3 of Zen's best ever.

RE: Health regen. Anyone remember The Getaway from about a decade ago? Healing mechanic in that game was having your character lean up against a wall. It was mildly frustrating trying to convince bad guys to stop shooting you for a minute while you take a heater break. I guess magical healing walls isn't very realistic either though.

I'll stick to Sci-Fi games where I can just use "space magic" as the blanket explanation for everything.

Luckily, I only have crappy bundle games, so humble has just been absolutely spoiling me with their bundles. Looking forward to some pinball action!

 
I can't wait for both the Pinball and the Daedalic bundles.  Even though I suck at pinball, it still is entertaining to me, and I love point and click adventure games.  I'll definitely be buying them both.

 
Re: Wal-Mart. I was one of the first people to find the glitch with a few books I was looking at, it never occurred to me to shop around in electronics or anything... Supposedly all of this has shipped:

I'm purtty jelly. I want the GoT books, as well as the Harry Potter ones. Then again, I'd probably never read them. Reading is one of those things I enjoy doing when I convince myself to do so, but I haven't convinced myself to do so in around three or four years.

I have no idea when I'll find the time for them, though - I'm in the middle of a self-inflicted study of The Peloponnessian Wars via Donald Kagan's (amazing) four volume thesis, his Open Courses through Yale, and of course Thucydides' thousand-ish page account. And I play videogamz cuz i liek em lotz.

Yeah... Well... Umm... I'm in the middle of putting Ulysses, Infinite Jest, and Gravity's Rainbow down in front of me on a desk and reading a page from each until I've finished all three in one continuous sitting. Twice.

Also, that reminds me that our English department in college had a small seminar on Joyce that at the end of the class instead of an exam required all dozen or so students to go to the professor's house for 24 hours and take turns reading the entirety of Ulysses allowed. Seemed rather exhausting, considering the pace would have to be fairly brisk to make it through the whole novel.

It all depends on whether you want the alien breed and worms games. I don't, and I would never play them if I bought it, so there's no way I'm buying it. But if you do want it and you WOULD play the games, it's absolutely worth it. You will probably NEVER see a better deal than this.

 
Anybody know if the foil drop rate has been greatly increased?  Felt like it used to be forever between foils for me and I'm on my fourth one this week.

That's awesome. I listened to the TGC lectures on the subject as taught by Kenneth Harl, of whom I gather got his Ph.D. from Yale, about a year ago. The accompanying guidebook only gave a bulleted synopsis of the Pentecontaetia, but it was nonetheless intriguing. Good for you for taking on his entire account, haha. Reading historical non-fiction is usually a better option than reading about Katniss fall in love, anyway. ;)

Also, I've only gotten 2 foils. So stfu, Faux.

Don't think drop rate has increased, but since the card beta has started I have sold x23 foil cards for a profit of $69.09. (Just searched       "(foil)" in my email out of curiosity.)

But L4D has that nifty mechanic where you take less damage from fire and acidic spit when you're lying in it than you do standing or running through it. I don't think there's any FPS out there that doesn't require an immense willing suspension when it comes to grievous wounds.

Sweet, I had some left over credits there that they blocked from using on their second indie bundle, but it works for this.

They also seem to have Asscreed IV for 50 bucks that comes with a Steam key.

 
Suddenly I can see who likes each post.

Now I'm gonna start feeling peer pressure to like certain posts if everybody else likes them.
