New Thread:

This thread has been replaced by TSDT v11

Daily Deal:
Please check the Steam homepage.

Weeklong Deals:
Steam usually has week-long deals that change on Mondays at 6PM UTC. They mostly feature indie games, and may not run every week.

Sale summary lists:

Key:
⤷ indicates DLC, — specifies part of a pack, + shows alternative versions, ⚠ highlights things worth knowing, ♫ is obvious, and ... denotes a multi-pack.

Holiday Sale 2013 | 19/12/13 through 3/1/14:
Days 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14.

Spring/Autumn Sale 2013 | 27/11/13 through 3/12/13:
All days.

Steam deals on other stores: (Related threads on CAG.)

Indie* bundle threads: (*Not always indie, nor always a bundle.)

Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

She might be very mature looking for a 6 month old, but she's still only 6 months old

You can wait 17 years and 6 months right?

And maybe I will later

My Steam account was hijacked, please ignore any messages from me on there for the time being. Thanks!!!
That sucks... Really, really, sucks.

I've seen bits and pieces of the story over a couple of threads... but is there one that has it all? (or at least most of it.) I gathered it wasn't random?

I'm not sure what happened but coincidentally it was within 24 hours of receiving the bundle bandits email with 1000's of email addresses in the to line. Basically, I got back from shopping in town at around 8 to find someone had successfully changed my email address on Steam to a Tunisian based IP address email at 7:01. Also, I was on Babo's friends list at one time but never clicked on any links he sent me to trade with his "friend" and even told him to fuck off not recognizing him from cag. Sorry Babo. I should've realized it wasn't you. Earlier today, I found out that Babo had his Steam account compromised weeks ago. Not sure exactly what happened but have now changed every password and ran numerous scans for any nasty shit on my pc.

I need rollingskull in here to give me a full report of that Starbound game all these kids are playing now. If I don't give a shit about Terarria, is this game even for me? I like the art style and I love 2d platformers but i need a story dammit!

Oh and looks like if you bought Wooden Sen'Sey from desura or build a greenlight bundle, the devs are gonna give u steam keys. I will totally pay someone $4 bux for a steam key when they get it ^_^

I just realized the Steam trailer for Dragon Age Ultimate Edition is set to 30 Seconds to Mars "Closer to the Edge".

That is the only cool thing relative to an EA game in quite some time. Wonder if it will be any cheaper come the next sale.
Not sure if you know but "This is War" is featured in the game also... Well, at least in the credits. EA was also handing out MP3 downloads of the song at one point in time also... I cannot remember why outside of the DAO connection.

$7,50 is an amazing deal for the Ultimate Edition.... I own it and all the DLC on the 360 and I'm rather tempted to double dip on it. (Oh, wait, I own it (base game) on Origin... Got that copy free) so maybe I'm thinking about triple dipping on it?

Anyhow, not sure who has and who hasn't played this game but I can easily recommend it as I consider it to be Bioware's best modern game... (And this is coming from someone who has likely only played the worst version if it, the 360...)

Its everything Mass Effect tried to be (I consider the whole trilogy to be ME, I don't really break them up separately anymore) as the decisions you make truly do matter in the end... End game options exist/don't exist based upon who is still with you. Combat/Mechanics isn't anything revolutionary but one can trace their roots back to BG and see how they have evolved over the years. The world is complex, racism, religion, discrimination and the general evils of man are all explored. The story is very epic. The companions all solid.

I honestly think anyone new to the world should play all of the separate origins first and the plunge into the game... Each offers some unique perspectives.

Anyhow, I think I'm going to go and bug Jake now... :D

I voices similar thoughts and Jake replied in the thread about it... Pretty glowing report to be honest.

I'll see if I cannot find it again for you. :) Found (link)

Regarding Starbound:

I have several friends who, in the past, always tried to get me to play those Minecraft-type games. 2d & 3d. I never cared for Minecraft or Terraria, or any of the other similar games whose names I can't remember.

That being said, I loaded up Starbound with a buddy last night and proceeded to dwindle away the next 3+ hours. It is very similar to Terraria's formula, but it improves on it in every way. I used to never care about crafting and exploring in these types of games because there was no purpose or direction. Starbound provides those things, and just feels a lot more fun.

Combat feels satisfying because enemies can actually be challenging with their crack-fueled AI. The disturbing enemy sound effects, and weapon hit sound effects really add to it as well. The crafting and quest menu are VERY welcome. It is easy to find the recipes for whatever it is you need to craft in those menus.

The only thing I don't like so far is that if you are in a party with someone, you both still have to complete quests. Meaning, if the quest is to create some item, you both have to create that item. The quest wont complete for you unless you create the item yourself. Its fine, but I guess Im just not used to that happening for multiplayer games.

I was regretting my purchase after I spent 20 minutes trying to figure out why my server hosting wasn't working. But once I got to play, it was well worth the trouble.

If you like Terraria then Starbound is Terraria on steroids... just still in beta so you might prefer waiting until it's officially 'launched.'  If you didn't enjoy Terraria I'd say don't bother.  There really is no story, it's a sandbox game.

Damn man. I'm sorry to hear that some shitty asshole thinks they can profit from this. I hate to see that two CAGs have been hacked/phished lately.

I blame those bundleBANDITS! I'm boycotting them. Pickle Frenzy and other future free keys be damned.

Yeah, that's what I'm curious about... I know the first time I used my cell phone, my wife's computer, or tablet I got a big FU from Steam till I said it was okay via my main computer and/or email.
I got the messages but unfortunately I was still an hour or so away from home when I was being hacked. First thing I did was change everything and file a steam support ticket.

pasports31 said:
yeah did you have steam guard?

If you did, we can all be like "oh damn, that sucks"
If you didn't, we can yell at you
yes I had Steam Guard on, but also found they had hacked my email account which I have now changed the password on.

So pretty much business as usual, eh?

lol :) I was looking forward to playing bioshock infinite when I got home. Hopefully Steam support will fix this soon. I have faith.

So all this talk made me really glad I skipped the bundle bandits...only to realize I'd signed up for their newsletter so my email was likely passed around with everyone else's *paranoia begins*

Obscure price glitch alert - the new Unity of Command dlc is -60% off, a bigger discount than the older dlc is getting. It's no Dishonored goty for $4 but what the hell.

SPEAKING OF GAMES...I got nothing.  State of Decay is not quite grabbing me yet.

*** MINI GAME REVIEW TIME ***

I'd been farming cards for Mini Motor Racing Evo and had one left to farm, so I thought I'd, y'know, actually play it.

I quite enjoyed it.

It's reminiscent of the old Micro Machines games (small cars flying round a track) but with a slightly less kiddy feel; you're racing on actual tracks rather than breakfast tables, blackboards etc.

Controls are... a bit odd. You don't press left to turn left, pressing left points your car in that direction. It's a little weird and takes some getting used to. It handles well enough though.

I played a few races and really enjoyed it, and felt obliged to tell people on Steam how fun it was.

Then I played some more. It gets old, fast.

There's just no variety, yet there's literally dozens of races in each category (Beginner, Internediate, Advanced) so to complete everything will take a long time. I wouldn't mind but everything just feels very samey after a while.

MrNinjaSquirrel hit the nail on the head when he said it needs a power-up system (all you have is a nitro boost) and something to liven it up. It also becomes quite a grind after a bit.

It's not a bad game, and I'd encourage people to briefly try it out, but don't spend any serious money on it - wait for a bundle.

And the backlog continues to grow.  Just bit on Dragon Age UE.  I played the vanilla version on PS3 when it first came out (was on PC gaming hiatus at the time) and loved it.  Definitely my favorite Bioware game after Baldurs Gate 1 and 2.

Also picked up Spelunky for four bucks on Vita/PS3 to see what all the fuss is about.

I'll get to this stuff eventually.  I'm about 22 hours into Skyrim LE and I've done only four quests on the main story.  Bought a house, fixed it up, and then headed north to the wizard college.  Cuz....you know...I'm a wizard, Harry.

I was hoping to snag Assassins Creed IV for 30 on either Steam or Amazon during the upcoming sales but, considering the backlog, I might just wait and try to get it cheaper in the Spring.  Freakin' sales.

Is there anyway to get an update when a game is on sale? I really want spelunky.
Steam does have a feature that's supposed to be for that, but it's pretty much useless. Most of the times that it did actually email me it was for games that had been discounted for over 24 hours already, and many were for the low-discount duration sale rather than the daily/flash/community choice price.

We're due a new numbered Humble Indie Bundle over the next week or so, so hold tight - Spelunky is a prime candidate for inclusion. That's not a guarantee, by the way, just a hunch.

I bought it in the Fall Sale at 75% off.

Now that's a guarantee that it'll be Humble Bundled.

:whee:

I use sites like isthereanydeal. You log in via steam or import your wishlist, and it will email you when something is on sale on most of the major websites. I think cheapshark might have something like this too but I haven't looked into it or how reliable it is.

I can attest to the uselessness of this feature. I only get the random email usually a day or two after the game went on sale.

All of this talk about sunasun's misfortune makes me nervous about having snagged a Bundle Bandits, but I didn't get a mega-CC'd email when I registered/purchased and I did use a disposable email address, so maybe I'm safe.

Neither did I. I also made sure to use a very unique password on their site since it looks so dodgy.

We should at least acknowledge that sunasun's hacker has truly awful taste in games - recent activity shows he's put over 21 hours into Orion: Dino Beatdown.

There's no other possible explanation for it.

They still need to access your email if you have steam guard. I have a steam guard like feature on my gmail as well. If you log in from a different location with the gmail it sends me a text message with a code that I need to enter to access my email.

Main problem I had with the game is that the difficulty relies far too much on who gets ahead of everyone else in the first or second turn. If you manage to not screw up those turns, you're safe through the whole race.. If not, it can be ridiculously hard trying to get in first place. There's not much "racing" to it, which is a major flaw in a racing game. The main thing the game has going for it is Steam workshop, but the custom tracks I've tried were uninspired.

I doubt many active people using this thread have a Vita, but if you do and managed to get Motorstorm RC for free.. that's a much better example of how this type of game should be done.

I only tinkered with Motorstorm RC for a little bit but it seemed like a cool little game.

FYI, anyone in the pinball group can invite any other Steam user, so poke and prod at will if a request goes unmet here.

I was really excited about the PC release, and bought it full price through early access. Afraid to say I regret it.

It's not AWFUL, but also not worth full price. Big gripe I have is I have a pc that can run Battlefield 3 decently, but SOD chugs on it.

Was this an option that you had to enable? I went to invite ashes shortly after she posted, but none of the check boxes showed on the page with my friends list.

Well it was in a Groupees already. Personally I can't see most people enjoying it very long, so unless you already have it I'd just go with one of many other isometric racers. I only played about one race or so of Bang Bang Racing, but already that had a lot more variety and the actual racing felt better. I need to play more of it...

I use isthereanydeal.com. It's not perfect, but being able to import your wishlist, and also limit it to any deal or just historical low prices is really nice and has let me know about some sales I would have missed otherwise.
