New Thread:

This thread has been replaced by TSDT v11

Daily Deal:
Please check the Steam homepage.

Weeklong Deals:
Steam usually has week-long deals that change on Mondays at 6PM UTC. They mostly feature indie games, and may not run every week.

Sale summary lists:

Key:
⤷ indicates DLC, — specifies part of a pack, + shows alternative versions, ⚠ highlights things worth knowing, ♫ is obvious, and ... denotes a multi-pack.

Holiday Sale 2013 | 19/12/13 through 3/1/14:
Days 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14.

Spring/Autumn Sale 2013 | 27/11/13 through 3/12/13:
All days.

Steam deals on other stores: (Related threads on CAG.)

Indie* bundle threads: (*Not always indie, nor always a bundle.)

Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

Oh gosh, just a word of warning...

I started playing Papers, Please this morning, thinking I'd just play for 20 minutes or so... it's now been a couple hours and I completely lost track of time.  This game is so strange, as it doesn't even feel "fun" at times, and yet... it's strangely addicting my slight OCD tendencies. It's neat how they slowly introduce new factors every day so you don't get too overwhelmed, but I even learn new things to track that aren't explicitly stated (such as checking height and weight, etc).

I'm only on day 8 or so but I'm hooked.  Ugh, and I'm supposed to be working on my backlog...

BYOBS over at GameFly.
In case anyone's wondering, Condemned is not a Steam key. Too bad, 'cause I want that game on Steam.

The Steam games on Sega Hits are Company of Heroes, Hell Yeah, Renegade Ops, Sonic 4 Ep. 2, Viking and Warhammer Dawn of War 2, while the Console set has Jet Set Radio, Nights into Dreams, and Sonic 2 DC Steam keys.

Anyone want to go in on a three pack of Sega Hits? I only want Viking.

There's really no order to it, especially if you're finishing the main quests. And as for being level 30, assuming you're playing through normal mode, that should be fine. I did Tiny Tina's DLC last as I did them as they came out and started at level 42 (I was doing all the side quests) and I was a tad over-leveled.
I think they should be played in order. For one thing, they introduce Mr Torgue in the 2nd one and then he's featured as a returning character in the 4th. And just in general, they were intended to be played in release order so why mix it up? That's my take.

Because they've used art and audio assets that were lifted directly from Rock N Roll racing which was made by Blizzard back in the SNES days. In fact, the game was previously called Rock N Roll Racing 3D.
But that game was pixel art, this is 3D.

Other than them namedropping the game they're copying, have they done anything else that might make Blizzard go horde on their ass?

He posts on neogaf a lot ;)
Isn't that the same thing as being invisible?

I may be confused, but isn't playing a game by definition working on your backlog?

So Motor Rock was released this morning. I picked my copy up before the inevitable copyright shitstorm hits.
Also, this:

Your disagreeing with me = you're wrong.

Nah, I pretty much agree since that's what I did. It's just that there's so little story arc (as in like practically zero), that you'd have to really go out of your way to end up confused by playing them in some random order.

The game having the same vehicle designs with the same names as the original. They also lifted the same "voicework" that was done in the original, as well as the same audio. The original audio was licensed from bands like Black Sabbath, Steppenwolf, George Thorogood, and Deep Purple.

My guess is that these Russian devs didn't re-license these songs. That alone is enough to get the game pulled.

If they got cover bands to re do the music then it shouldn't be an issue.

I see, I had no idea. That's amazing. How did this make it onto Steam? Doesn't Valve check these things?! o_O

And thanks to AshesKitty for the Viking code!

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, then flat out ripping off is better. Right?

I imagine Valve hasn't looked too closely at this one. This is also in the store page:

in case of problems with the launch of the game, you must download (will be fixed with an update):

http://www.yardteam.ru/files/d3dx9_redist(june2010).zip
http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.12.1031-legacy-driver.html
I mean really? Am I going to go to a Russian website to download a Direct X redistributable file? At least they gave nVidia credit for making Physx.

I would think--and I'm not a lawyer--but I would think that even using cover versions of songs requires some kind of licensing from the IP holder, even if it should, in theory, be cheaper than licensing an original recording. Didn't Harmonix have to license stuff like "Hard to Handle" for Rock Band?

Well that means they probably haven't pushed an update to the install script on Steam to download and install that if necessary. Still, that's... pretty odd.

Yes, even if they have cover bands they still have to pay a license fee for the usage of the song.

Yeah, that's basically it. If you do cover songs it is a lot cheaper to license, etc.

Papers, Please is probably going to end up being my personal Game of the Year. I like it so much that i'm hesitant to play in fear of my mother-in-law dying.

*furiously searches for a Russian dealer to get Motor Rock

Edit: I just realized I'm looking for a Russian guy to get me a Russian game that's not region locked to Russia.

MADNESS!

Edit:

The guy I found wants three keys. Eff that. :p

JakeNome has it for $5.76

Bought super schiesty Russian bootleg racer, err, I mean Motor Rock after reading this thread. I knew there was a reason some CAGs were buying it right away.

And yeah Valve doesn't seem to look at much of anything very closely these days.

You do have a lot of time on your hands now that your fantasy football season is over.
I'm going to be the bigger man and accept defeat with grace, elegance, professionalism and candour.

You're going to lose in the final.

Depriving Spoony of a playoff berth made the season for me anyways. :whee:

As a father myself, that "Baby Flow" (or even Flowette - is she a girl?) brings back some not-so-pleasant memories. Still, enjoy your baby while you can.

And thanks for the BUTTON recommendation - I'll go back and compile everyone's responses into a list.
Only Brawny Gents in here.

Well I have a $10 off $50 Amazon.uk promotional code that's all yours as a consolation prize if you want it.

It just seems like you shit on everything. Even if something is "not for you" just say that. You don't need to rip into it like the website personally disrespected your mother by offering the bundle. It's just obnoxious to continously read the negativity.
Speak for yourself, alright?

I wouldn't worry too much about it. When the lawyers show up, the developers will just change the game's name to "Infestation: Racing Stories" and keep selling it.

(Srsly, doe... make sure dat shiz runs wifout Steam.)
