Banderas is horrible at the game. ;)
naw, i got pretty far into it and then did some glitch to max out my dude and went around killing does. The strategy in Durick Sous is to find a cheap exploit and use it to kill an enemy, now thats a fun game, am i rite!

Here's the problem: you found a glitch to max-out your dude.

Now, whose fault is that you're taking the brutality and "fun" out of the game?

That's like enabling God Mode in DN3D or Quake.

y u do dis?

About finding glitches, exploits or strategies to defeat an enemy - if you don't want to do it those ways once you find them, then DON'T!

Dark Souls is very old-school like those brutal old NES games - it's about learning the patterns and finding ways to defeat your enemy and learning the game-world. In a game as brutal as this, if you suck at it - you should take them at every opportunity! And given the way Dark Souls is built - I bet those "Easy ways" are built there purposely. Everything about this game is placed purposely and often in a very subtle manner for those really paying attention - just like how the game's story is often told (subtle-like via game-dialogue; by the ways levels, objects, and NPC's are laid out; descriptions of items in the Inventory; etc etc).

I could understand why people don't like Dark Souls. To me, it's one of my favorite games. Still, I can understand it. It's a slow paced game with tons of backtracking, stunlocking, meaningless stats to track, etc.

But yea, there's definitely no glitch to max out your char and plow through the game. Even if you sat there and grinded for hours to SL 200 with a +15 weapon,  buffed etc.... You would still not be able to just plow through the game.

So can I.

If somebody:

1) Doesn't like good games

2) Is an idiot

They probably will hate dark souls

We can go together. I'll need you to pay for all of my stuff though. Airfare, hotel fees, etc.

Oh, and I need some spending money.
The fact that I initially read that as spanking money is just blargh

Or they don't like grinding. Took hours of grinding to get the drops I needed for achievements. Got burned out by the Xbox version so much that I never got the 1,000 GS for PC version.

I'm an idiot, so I guess i'll just leave Dark Souls in the backlog.  Wish somebody would have told me before I wasted 6 bucks.  Could have bought two indieroyale bundles with that.    :oldman:

you spent hours grinding for achievements because you chose to. that isn't the way the average person plays the game. that would make any game boring.

I think Dark Souls is an acquired taste.

Basically - it's built for gamers who love those brutal old-school games like the old NES days and want to learn patterns and repeat areas...b/c you will DIE A LOT.

I'm terrible at the game - but like them old-school games that I love, they are so tough that a victory is the most rewarding feeling that this game can give.

You basically have to play like you have unlearned EVERYTHING from the last decade or so of gaming. Do not expect maps, quest-logs, hand-holding, and a difficulty slider.

Yeah, but you don't need to grind to play dark souls. Just like you don't need to get every achievement (although i did for dark souls) to enjoy a game.

Didn't care for Dark Souls. I can appreciate what they're trying to do and why people would like it but the game wasn't interesting or fun enough for me to waste the time getting "good" at it. And the simple act of getting good at an uninteresting game isn't fun in of itself (unlike other games where I enjoyed the learning curve).

Happy Kiss a Ginger Day, Steam Thread.

I rather enjoy looking at the achievement lists in JRPGs... Just absolutely crazy amounts of times to complete them all.
I spent most of yesterday playing Disgaea D2, just about all spent grinding, and I got a trophy for talking to my 1000th NPC.

At least it's something I earned passively rather than learning about it and standing there for an hour working toward it. Doing it right! ( I'm pretty sure I did this when I learned there was a trophy for jumping X number of times in the base, though. >.< )

I prefer the achievements like that, just playing and earning them while playing. It's a pleasant surprise and it's how I think most achievements are meant to be earned.  The only time I actively achievement hunt is if I'm trying to earn something (like the unlockables you get from Killing Floor) or if I just happen to love  a game so much I want achievements, but those usually have to be open world games that don't require more than one play through.

I got pretty bad over the course of a year with achievements/trophies on Xbox Live/PS3.  At first I told myself that I was doing it to "get more from each game I bought" (which also only helped add to my backlog).  After a while I realized that I wasn't even getting a sense of accomplishment for getting achievements any more...  Not only that... I would only feel relief after getting all of them for a given game & I could finally stop playing.

It was at this point I realized I had fallen into a trap that I needed to break myself out of.  I've since turned notifications off for all achievements/trophies & just play the game the way I want to.

It's also helped with not getting spoiled on things in games, since I am not looking at achievement lists ahead of time so I don't "miss one".

I am much happier gaming now than when I was going for achievements/trophies - games are still fun - just like they were before these things were invented to keep us playing games until the DLC came out.   :)

About Achievements - I was never one to say "OMG, I have to get ALL of them!"

If I can get some on the way - cool.

If not - oh well, I don't care.

I play for as long as it often takes me to finish the main game + some side quests (if there are any). I normally don't wind-up doing everything if the game has side quests b/c doing them all can often be a time-sink and/or get repetitive. I just try to play until I've had enough, if games are built in such an open manner.

If it's very linear (think SP campaigns for COD series, BF series, Max Payne series) - well, you know, you're just gonna play the game as it is. Can't do much about that.

Yeah, it goes both ways. Some games have achievements you'll earn passively, and some are written where you have to do some odd action in one specific part of the game to get several of them. I'm happy to never look at the list and be surprised to gain them like the NPC one, but only if I can KNOW that they'll be able to be earned passively, and unless you know a developer's works, you typically can't know that. I wouldn't want to beat a game (especially a 200+ hour one) just to find that if I'd backtracked one room in chapter 7 and searched the desk once more I would have gotten 100% achievement completion.

Yeah, if a game is open world with no load times/extra playthroughs and I love it I don't mind going back and doing silly achievements like that. Eat from every food member, slap someone with a fish, etc.

If it requires more than one play through or load times, then I can't be bothered. I was curious about some of the achievements in Dead Island since I loved the game, but a lot of the collectibles/unlockables required basically exploring every inch of the map and even then some of them I would never run into without a guide. Would sort of ruin the first playthrough for me if instead of focusing on the missions I'm following a guide to run under a hut and find a skull or something.

That said, I loved that one so much a second playthrough is not out of the question so I might follow a guide for it even though IIRC some of the collectibles need to be found in certain order so it can be frustrating.
