fail, the last part was from the finding nemo movie which Ellen voiced, but yeah, Jennifer hale is the queen of video games VO.
Except that was from the Finding Nemo video game that Ellen DeGeneres was not paid to voice act in. So that is Jennifer Hale's voice. Also one of the straight to video mini movies was also voiced by Jennifer Hale.

Are you sure? I just went and compared the sound from this to the movie, and it is exactly the same, and the movie was voiced by ellen degeneres, not jennifer hale.

Can't compare it to the game, since I never played it, but im 100% sure this clip sounds the same as the part from the movie.

Woah... Jennifer Hale voiced Rosalind Lutece from BioShock Infinite? I'm kind of blown away as I never picked up on that. Apparently she's also voicing Lyris Titanborn in the upcoming Elder Scrolls Online. Put a check in the plus column for ESO.

Jennifer's great, for sure.

I loved her as Fall-From-Grace in Planescape: Torment.

What do you do?
I work for Big Oil.

That men are more likely to play as women in video games than women are.
I don't know if this is true. But, I prefer to play as a female more than a male. Started with KOTOR. Playing as a female Sith marauder was one of my favorite gaming experiences. I'll never forget poisoning a water planet, or manipulating two young lovers to kill each others family and each other. So, any RPG I play I go dark side female in hopes to relieve those types of gaming experiences.

I just realised both my replies imply I'm a really shitty person.

She also voices the female Republic Trooper in SWTOR... So if you've ever been considering trying that out (even though it's another MMO with lots of flaws), perhaps that will sway you. Definite femshep vibe going on in that character, though probably a bit gruffer.
I still love that Smuggler voice. She's so dry and sarcastic and has made me laugh tons of times. Plus there's just something so politically incorrect about a Miralukan saying 'I'll do it blindfolded, just for fun".

Lyris is around for 10 minutes or less and is permanently gone after that unless she's not who I'm thinking of. That's a negative selling point for me, locking Hale's voice away after just that short bit.
There's a flashback scene not too far in with her and the other members of the group explaining how they got to that point, but that too is brief. Presumably she comes back in the end because it seems like one of the goals of the main quest is to free her.

But yeah, it's not like SWTOR where the PC has a voice that you hear throughout. It's ES which has the whole 'PC doesn't have a voice because it's your voice (or whatever you imagine it to be)' thing. Personally I prefer the voiced PCs but I don't think any MMO outside of SWTOR does that.

I do hope more Japanese devs move up to PC development this generation. Its basically the only reason for me to have a home console at this point( well, that and Sony first-party offerings)
They likely will... They don't even really view their own home market as their most important market anymore.

I speaking in generics when it comes to a group of people... Really, little good ever comes of it but I guess I will. The Japanese people as a whole don't have a whole lot of love for western developed games. Yes, its gotten better this generation but they still view them as substandard to their own homegrown games. Next, space is also very limited in apartments and whatnot, its one of the reasons that the xbox failed (too big, see the above for the main reason) but when you think about it an xbox is still smaller than the avg desktop PC.

Honestly, I don't ever see PC gaming being big in Japan... Some sort of believe that consoles are struggling compared to mobile gaming (portable aka 3Ds and phone), which is sort of why traditional Japanese developers see the western market as so important.

Jennifer Hale is hands down my favorite voice actor. Seriously, I've tried playing as maleshep so many times and I just CAN'T do it because his voice actor utterly pales in comparison to Hale.
As I understand it he got better as the series went along... He even seemed slightly better close to the end of the original Mass Effect... but I never finished ME with male Shepard so I never tried the other games as him... Never really saw the point.

Thanks to everyone for the board game recs! They all sound great.  I'm making a list and will start checking them out as soon as I get a chance.

There's a long thread on slickdeals at the moment talking about Titanfall (Origin) for $33.78 at this Russian site.  Yes, it's called Yuplay.  I'm more interested in South Park for $16.44 (but why does it say AUD if it's in rubles?).  From what I can tell this looks like the Russian language version and thus should be region-locked, though, right?

Russian version is activation and run-time locked.

Oh he definitely got better, but Jennifer Hale still outdid him by a mile, which should go to show how talented she is.

Just pay full price on Steam. It's a good deal.

Which is probably the best deal, considering it's a blizzard game, for the next 14 years or so.
Probably true... Though I'm having some troubles making the jump. I'm worried about them getting it to me by the 31st to redeem for the in game goodies. Which I value over the GC.

Edit: For anyone doing the Diablo III thing my username is: INMATE#1902

How the hell they had 1901 inmates before me I don't get... Granted, the bigger question is in this day and age who limits a username to less than such a few characters. (INMATEofARKHAM doesn't fit... like wut?)

Huh.  Got an Age of Empires II HD 50% off coupon crafting a badge this morning.  Naturally, it doesn't stack, so it's even MORE useless.  I probably would have gone for it at 87.5% off.  They should really make the coupons a fraction better than sales if they want coupons to be attractive, though I can understand that publishers are the ones approving the discounts and they don't care one bit whether Steam's badge-issued coupons are appealing.

Playfire finally shows that I have a Steam library, so I'm doing my first-time runs of Borderlands and all three Bioshocks to see whether it'll pick up on it now.  I mean, I went through the process of downloading them, so why not?

Also, two of the cards for The YAHWG have shot up in value for anyone who got a key for it in the Not On Steam Sale.  Worth idling that one if you have it.  There's also an uncommon icon from it of a beer stein that's selling pretty well on the market.

yeah, if the coupons were even just 5% more than a typical sale, they'd be pretty sought after. but who wants a half off coupon?

re: femshep

I'm sure Jennifer Hale is a fine voice actress (though I do find it creepy how many gamers sort of obsess over female voice actors), but I just usually play with a male character if given the choice because I am male.  No video game is going to win anybody an Oscar so slightly better bad acting isn't really a draw for me.

I get the push for more female representation in gaming, but since they mostly tend to be ridiculously sexualized caricatures I don't really think the effort is genuine.  In most MMOs I find it's males choosing slutty looking female characters to try to get even more pitiful males to give them free shit.

i also tend to play as male since i'm a male. plus when naming characters i name them odd things for laughs...and naming my skyrim female character "Cockosaurus Rex" wouldn't feel right

Wasn't there something like 90% Skullgirls coupon day one after it was released?

The best steam coupon ever (Was quickly disabled due to rage from preorderers).

Most just suck and I have promised myself to never craft unless there's special card set available.

Yeah, the Skullgirls coupon was intentional but the dev didn't realize how common the craft rate for the coupon would be.

I ran into this too, and had to shorten my name to MrSquirrel. Now how will anyone know I'm a ninja?

While this is true much of the time, I don't think it applies to fem-shep since I feel she's just as strong a character as her male counterpart, and doesn't fall into the traditional hyper sexual female character role. The later part about MMOs is definitely true (although I don't personally do it), I just personally enjoy creating female characters more since they usually have more customization options than males do (oh wow, 8 different styles of a buzz cut) which usually extends to clothing/armor as well (and not just the tacky sort). There's obviously nothing wrong with playing a male character, I just get tired after so many games of playing as a dude since most conform to the same template, and like to change it up when I can since the option isn't as common as I feel it should be.

It might be taken to creepy levels, but I do understand the attraction to an actress lending her voice to something highly personal (i.e. a character in which you've invested dozens of hours). You kind of grow attached to certain characters.

I find that I play female/male characters about 60/40. Usually the male is a big, slow, powerful character and the female relies on her wits, speed, and athleticism. And if there's a bow to be had in the game, it is usually mastered by the female -- and I like shooting bows in games.

I'm also not real crazy about some of the dumb bro-dudes that populate the character selection process these days. That doesn't match my persona and I'm not really interested in role-playing one.

Finally, given the choice of staring at a bro-dude or a girl for hours and hours... I'm gonna probably pick the girl.

I definitely see the appeal. I'm more of a guns and blunt force trauma guy myself so I tend to gravitate towards those characters. I actually don't tend to like their boneheaded personas, but I enjoy the playstyle. I'm more likely to choose a female in a racing or fighting games since their added speed offsets my general suckiness.

10 hours or so into Assassin's Creed III, so far. I'm actually digging the game itself, so far....more than I dug Revelations. Naval battles are AWESOME. I'm really digging the tree-hopping, as well. Hunting is cool, even though I'm not really pursuing it much. I really dig the story & especially the historical location (of Boston - since I'm not too far from there and it kind of feels like home). Though I'm not super-fond of Connor's character - at least so far. Seems like Connor's just there...to push the awesome story along. Altair and especially Ezio seemed more interesting & charismatic than Connor.

Must go play more.

Well for most of those you're really Desmond in the Animus reliving past lives. Desmond is a wanker.

I know Jennifer Hale as Naomi Hunter

And btw she is Canadian, deal with it.
Damn, I already wish MGS series was on the PC in its entirety; now you're making it worse! ;)

We all know Jennifer Hale's fantastic - Bastilla (KOTOR series), Fem-Shep (ME series), Fall-From-Grace (Planescape: Torment), Mazzy (BG2) - and that ain't even tipping the iceberg of the number of different and various roles she's played in video games. What can't she do? She always seems to knock her roles, right out the park - no matter who or what she plays.

A lot of great things come from Canada - including Jennifer Hale + BioWare. ;)

Well through PCSX2 you can play MGS 2 & 3 on PC. (I'm not sure what the favored PSX emus are nowdays for MSG 1, but I know you have/had a PSX.)

Yeah - I'm certainly not a Desmond fan, either. He's another one - just seems to be there as a plot-device to push the story along.

Though, I've never really liked his character - he just seems like a whiny jerk, most of the time.

Though, I like Connor quite a bit more than Desmond. Connor just...is there. I don't love his character - yet I don't hate hate it, either. He doesn't seem too likable b/c....

...he seems to be mostly on his revenge path - rightfully so, given what happens and who he's after in the AC3 story.

For some reason, I never bought MGS1 on the PSX...

I don't own a PS2, 3, or 4.

I usually play a male character when given the choice, as well. When doing RPG's or games where I am able to create a character - first go-round, I try to make the character a few of my traits as possible (Human male). It's if and when I do replays, I'll do some kind of different kind of character.

Of course these days given the plethora of games out there and the size of my backlog, I unfortunately don't often replay games.

EDIT:

Outer Limits...

Canada is great for near-future sci-fi, visually like the USA, but not quite.
I didn't watch that.

Yep - I'm totally digging the story, so far.

Why - does it get worse and fall apart?
No, it starts out bad. I hated this game so much. I still enjoyed it cause it's AC but I hated the story, the characters, and I felt the gameplay was a step backward in so many areas. It felt half-baked in a lot of places. Just a big disappointment. AC4 redeemed the franchise, LOVED it.

Really? I'm totally on the other side of the fence and I'm digging it - at least so far.

I really like the whole playing as Haytham Kenway bit, who actually is Connor's father (I liked his actual character more than Connor, at least so far) + who actually is a Templar; then he meets up w/ Kani (I ain't gonna write her whole name out, it's too long and I can't remember it) who winds-up being Connor's mother; and then you play as their son, Connor - who witnesses the wiping-out of his village & his mother's death; and Connor is chasing after General Lee + Haytham.

For me, gameplay-wise - AC:R was the disappointment to me being a lot "more of the same" and half-baked ideas (defense-tower missions + Portal puzzle-like area), not AC3. AC series just has not disappointed me ever, story-wise - at least so far, anyways.

Character-wise, another story entirely in AC3 - not super-fond of Connor & Desmond.

I don't think I'll ever be fond of Desmond, though.
