Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

I could really use some suggestions for series that are fun and/or action-y. My morning commute is about 45 minutes of boring. Exhausted most of my music at this point.
Kill La Kill immediately comes to mind, although I don't know if it's dubbed yet since it's still airing (unlikely). I'd also recommend Persona 4: The Animation, Angel Beats, and Steins;Gate, mostly because they are some of my all time favorites but they are also all fun and have spouts of action here and there (and I believe all are dubbed).

To give you an idea of what I like, my favorite anime's are Cowboy Bebop, Hellsing Ultimate, Chobits, and Samurai Champloo, to name a few. Steins;Gate sounds interesting, but the first episode was really hard to get into. Not very interesting. Does it get better?

Does it get better? LOL

SteinsGate is one of the best series to come out in the best decade.

EDIT: On a different topic, the anime references in the various Ben 10 shows continues to amuse.

Are you watching Space Dandy? Should be right up your alley. Or how about Black Lagoon? Not one I've seen, but I understand it plays out a lot like a US action movie.

Ergo Proxy might be a good fit for you too, though it's more on the slow plodding side, but it has the dark atmosphere down.

I second Black Lagoon. It's basically a mixture of Tarantino films,Spaghetti Westerns, and John Woo films.Ergo Proxy is also good, but it's one those shows that runs out of steam before the end. Also check out Gankutsuou, which is a sci-fi take on the Count of Monte Cristo.

That's something most people say (myself included). Give it a few more episodes, it gets much much better.

The second season of Kuroko's Basketball is ending on the 29th of this month.

A website celebrating the 35th anniversary of Mobile Suit Gundam is up and teasing an announcement for March 20th.

I hope it means they're announcing gundam for the new super smash bros.
Wouldn't it be like Sentinel in Marvel vs. Capcom?

More than likely, they're finally announcing the First Gundam remake series. The Journey to Jaburo cutscenes were decent for its time, but the original series with full orchestral music and Gundam 00/AGE-quality animation would be freaking awesome.

I do hope that if this is the remake series, they modernize the main Gundam to make it less 70's-ish. Slightly darker colors, smaller eyes, the modern UC beam rifles (like the ones used in 08th MS Team), better shields, etc. In fact, just take the RX-78-2 and design it 08th MS Team-style. Along with modern tech as well (i.e. the manual should be a tablet or something, not a laminated/plastic book)

I am a little curious what a modernized Guncannon or Guntank would look like. Guntank with gattling guns?

It's most likely going to adapt the origins manga of it. I enjoyed the orignal series but it's very dated(obviously) and it has a couple of big flaws with the main ones being it has way too much action and it really gets bogged down in the middle with filler episodes. Also has some  pretty shoddy writing at points(the romance between Sleggar and Mirai).

For those who are fans, a new Pokemon special has been announced. A new character and his MegaCharizard X goes around trying to fight the strongest MegaEvolutions.

Also, the Yu-Gi-Oh Bonds Beyond Time movie is finally getting a release in the US. It will release in July on DVD and Blu-ray, though lacking the 3D and promo card from the US release.

Both, though I am so used to Bonds Beyond Time Abridged that it will be hard to see the original. But hey, subbed Yu-Gi-Oh.

So what are you guys looking forward to in the upcoming Spring season?

Glancing over anichart, I do see quite a few I am interested in. But the ones that stand out for me are Black Bullet, Mekaku City Actors, Mushshi 2 , Knights of Sidonia, and  Isshuukan Friends. I am also very curious about Selector Infected WIXOSS, although I have no idea what to expect with it.

Will probably wait a bit to watch any however to catch up on all the other series that have been piling up though!

the next season looks really fun. I don't mind Fairy Tail so that returning will be nice, a new season of Mushishi should be good. As for new shows I feel that the following have a chance of being really solid shows. Mahouka Kokukou no Rettousei, No Game No Life, Soredoemo Sekai Wa Utsukushii, Black Bullet, Mekkacity Actors, Gokukoku no Brynhildr, and since I don't mind sports anime both Haikyuu and Baby Steps could also be fun.

This is by far the most anime I have been looking forward to in a single season for a long time.

Off the top of my head, Black Bullet and Haikyuu!! are the animes I'm looking forward to most. Nothing else stands out, but I'm not reading any of their mangas either.

I've been bad at keeping up lately since I tried to focus on Dexter (currently) and some other tv shows. Kill la Kill, Hunter x Hunter, Nisekoi and Noragami are really the only ones I've been keeping up with since they're on Hulu. Otherwise I'm about 4-7 episodes behind on everything (which is about 30 animes). Got some catching up to do.

First clip of the FUNi dub for Attack on Titan:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwbJOSm4SUs

I would be interested in picking the dub up if it wasn't for the outrageous asking price. FUNi is forcing customers to buy both the DVD and Blu-ray versions together, with no option to buy one separate from the other, and is then charging $37.50 for the standard version that only includes the first half of the series. No thanks.

Considering it's probably the most popular anime since FMA: Brotherhood, I can't really blame them for milking it a little. Just be glad they didn't treat it like Aniplex does with their titles. And if you think about it, 13 episodes is about a full season for short anime, and those reach $37.50 by themselves.

I really don't get how someone could call it an outrageous price when it's cheaper, with equal to or more episodes, than any other new(I don't consider a new release of DBZ to be a new anime release :p) funimation release in june and funimation in general has the cheapest anime releases.

Actually, FUNi's MSRP is usually pretty similar to Sentai's.
I suppose I forget to take funi's MSRP into account since every single one of their non limited edition releases is always around half off (or even more) day 1 on amazon on right stuff... which is not even remotely true for sentai stuff. Even if they were on par with Sentai though it's not like we are talking aniplex or NisA price levels.

yeah, i am also looking forward to black bullet, and Fūun Ishin Dai Shogun

Here I thought Gundam Build Fighters had stuffed as many Gundam cameos as it could, and then Gunpla Eve comes around and makes every background character a character from a previous series. Lalah getting ice cream for her and Char was sweet and funny, complete with Ikeda providing a single line guest spot. I want a Turn X model too. Plus, a Zakarello model!

Oh, and Aila eating a giant Haro cookie is quite amusing.

God, I love this show. A shame Bandai isn't around anymore. Hopefully Viz gets it and gives it to Ocean Group to dub.

I guess I haven't bought any anime brand new around their release date in a while, so the prices just seemed a little drastic. The idea of $75 for a 25-episode series just sounded ludicrous to me. But I see that Right Stuf has Volume 1 for $30, which seems much more reasonable IMO.

I know it seems like it's wrapping up and about to hit 2 cours, but have you heard anything about the series ending with episode 26? Cause I haven't. So I'm still holding out a little hope that the big Gundam announcement in a couple of days might touch on its future.

And if you're interested in more of the Build Fighters universe, have you read Gundam Build Fighters Amazing? It's a prequel manga that covers Tatsuya Yuki's back story and how he got involved in Gunpla. There are some scanlations our there of the first volume if you want to read it.

It was apparently only contracted as a 26 episode series.

But seeing as how this series has rejuvinated the franchise after AGE almost killed it, I can see a Season 2 happening.

For some reason I had a feeling it was going to end soon. I guess he wants move to something else which is what the special announcement for June is.
ideally the special announcement will be a new anime covering everything :p

it is sad to hear it go, coupled with the world god only knows ending I am running out of harem manga that isn't super focused on ecchi to read lol.

Did Keiichi and Belldandy actually advance their relationship any?
Yes,
current chapters had Belldandy's dad give approval of them getting into a serious relationship(basically allowing them to get married). This was after their contract was dissolved and Keiichi passed a test to prove how serious he was about their relationship(as goddess/human relationship weren't typically allowed).

Which if they failed, the two would've been split up forever(kinda like the gate test in the Ah! My Goddess movie). During the test, Belldandy & Keiichi also realized that Keiichi will die eons before Belldandy will, but still want a serious relationship

Also, the announcements from Gundam's 35th anniversary were revealed.

Anime fans, make your voice heard! Sportspickle is running a Completely Random Bracket (which I have a thread about elsewhere in the forum) Anime is facing off against former planet Pluto in the Ham Roast division. Sadly, anime is getting pounded. To make matters worse, the Enola Gay, the plane that dropped the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, is also winning. Vote for cilantro!

Poll: http://www.sportspickle.com/2014/03/bracket-completely-random-things-arent-related-way-ham-loaf-region-round-1

planning on watching these during the summer:

- coppelion

- hamatora

- kill la kill

- nobunaga the fool

- noragami

- strike the blood

- ZX ignition

any of those worth watching?

People will tell you to watch Kill La Kill, but don't listen to them. They are false prophets.

Started watching Kill La Kill. I expected nothing less from what is basically the creators of Gurren Lagann.

It saddens me Aniplex has the rights to it though because this is one series I really want to buy.
