I expect it to be more like the original than Gunslinger
I need to remember why I didn't stick with the original. I seem to remember that the controls were sort of lousy.

Gunslinger's "unreliable" narration and voice acting was a big plus for me. Even in the sloggier areas, it kept a certain charm.

What about Cartel made is so ass-tastic? I'm not tempted to buy it but I only know that no one ever recommends or even defends it in a "It's not great but..." manner.

Just for reference this is the cheapest Bound in Blood has been by a long shot on Steam. I'm not counting other stores because it's not sold as a Steam key anywhere else.

BiB a good game? I very much enjoyed Gunslinger but stalled out pretty quick on the original game. But the only opinion I consistently hear is that Cartel is a dog to be avoided.

Gunslinger is nothing like the originals. The first two (haven't played the third) feel pretty dated. Gunslinger feels more like an arcade game to me, while the original Juarez titles are just dated western-themed shooters.

I think people are bothered by the racial stereotypes in cartel. I hear Idioteque loves it

Anyway, it's also set in the modern day apparently which is kind of, weird, for an old western based series. They tried to modernize it and I don't think it was received very well so they went back to the old west for Gunslinger.

Why yes Ubisoft, I will buy your Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood.  Great price for that. I would have bought The Cartel too, if it weren't for that meddling MSRP.

I actually enjoyed the original Call of Juarez for what it was and I'm excited to play the follow up to that. And what I've played of Gunslinger I've enjoyed even though it is a different style.  The narration in Gunslinger is great, though it was cheaper when it was on sale at GMG a few days ago when I bought it.

Maybe if I played the older [TR] games I'd be upset about the lack of depth
Chances are you wouldn't.

Admittedly I own Tomb Raider but haven't played it yet (imagine that) but the whole softer Lara thing kind of turns me off.
By the time you think about that fading moment of softness, she will be kicking more ass than Rambo.

BUY THIS GAME! I just finished it this weekend and am loving the Arcade and Duel modes. It's a very solid shooter.

Call of Juarezs are 75% off.
You need to re-check those Arcade scores you beat me in last week. ;)

Awesome. According to the dev:

"This applies to absolutely everyone who *owns* 'The Scourge Project', so it shouldn't matter whether you bought it or just activated a key for it. :)"

I don't think The Scourge Project was ever in one of the kind of bundles as we know them now (i.e. Steam keys), but it was included in the Indie Fright Pack during the 2010 Holiday/Winter sale event. It's funny how Valve was the one that actually started this, and then couldn't-be-arsed it. Damned calendar.

I played through the whole thing as an Xbox360 rental - and probably played it more than I should have that weekend due to my former achievement addiction. It is just amazingly mediocre in every way. Plus, the voice acting is pretty abysmal if I remember correctly. AI partners aim was also pretty bad. If you can find 2 friends who actually want to play it you might have a better time than I did.. but don't expect it to be fun. I didn't HATE it.. but I didn't like it either.

WTH is up with Steam's Call of Juarez MSRP... they jacked it up for the steam summer sale and left it there. (Yes, missing BM X bites again.)

Has anyone removed the front glass/plastic/whatever of their laptop LCD before? A tiny, tiny bug crawled beneath mine somehow... I was trying to "guide" him to the edge and he seems to be smashed now. Whoops...
LCD assemblies are pretty tight, they bind the polarizer, LCD, and diffuser together. This bug sound like it is between some cover glass and the panel assembly. Look up disassembly instructions for your laptop. (A few laptops have had un-disassemble-able lid assemblies.) I've replaced a few screens/CCFLs.

Since everyone else is talking about Tomb Raider...

Admittedly I own Tomb Raider but haven't played it yet (imagine that) but the whole softer Lara thing kind of turns me off. Is a tough female lead something that's Terminator 2/Xena 90s passé?
I completely understand where you're coming from. In TR2013, she starts off as a ordinary grad student, but very quickly unlocks the homicidal maniac latent in all grad students. I especially loved braining people with my climbing pick.

I also loved it.

I played the original Tomb Raider games but hold no special love in my heart for them. I liked them quite a bit, but they had plenty of problems, even when new. Yes, it's a different kind of game and anyone who wants the old style Tomb Raider should be aware of that, but it stands on its own as something very good.

And as far as it being a poor man's Uncharted, which I've heard tons of people say since they started showing the game off, sure it's a bit like Uncharted, but I like the way it plays more. Give me a half dozen enemies and bow over the waves and waves of shooting guys from Uncharted any day.
No kidding. The initial waves at Shantytown were my last favorite part.

If you do want it for $2.50, maybe you should go online on Steam.
Thanks for the offer but after reading a couple reviews, I'm going to pass. I'm not an FPS fan and $2.50 for slightly below average 7 year old shooter with crappy platforming elements doesn't seem to be my thing. I was more checking the prices since $5 for a 7 year old game of no particular note seemed a little overpriced. I have CoJ: Gunslinger I should play and just succumbed to peer pressure and added CoJ: Bound in Blood as #992.

You have got to be kidding me. :wall: Then why is it in the $12-tier (base tier is $3) when it's $2 on Steam? What were they thinking?
There are three books in the second tier. Logic is that the bonus books are worth $9. So it's like Humble, where the assumption is that the extra games are worth $5.

I was more asking as to why they didn't switch it with one of the books in the first tier since I'm sure they're worth more than $2. Or did they plan on the Portal book bringing in legions of devoted fans happy to cough up the extra $9?

So Faeverse Alchemy is up and besides that fact that it's priced $30 for an unfinished casual game, the Subsoap dev says he can't be bothered at the moment to do an automated system for distributing keys to Infinity Bundle owners (remember that?) and that it will get done eventually but not before the time of full release and who the hell knows when that is?

http://steamcommunity.com/app/282880/discussions/0/558752356881060806/#c558752356885424078

If you purchased IB then please contact me through support. If you got a comp one then please wait for us to put an automated system in place - I cannot afford to spend the time responding to everyone who got a comp key right now as I must focus on development. We'll be uploading builds to our account site too which you should already have access to.
No, not related to auth keys - those are for unlocking off site versions of games. Versions you download are pre-unlocked.

It may be a while before we can do an automated system for the keys but it will happen in time. Most likely no sooner than after the full game is released though as we have to focus our time carefully on dev. Wait until after release and if I don't have an automated system around then then you can contact me if you were given a comp key.
Given Subsoap's slow schedule up to this point and the general lack of most Early Access games coming out in a reasonable time frame I don't see that happening soon. That Infinity Bundle was supposed to be keys for all their future games, not all their future games except for Early Access. He's also whining about not having time to deal with some people who got comp keys for the Infinity Bundle in spite of the fact that no one made him do that.

Sorry, I just told him off. I don't care if some of you guys disagree with me, I just think that's all total bullshit. We've waited this long with nothing to show for that Infinity Bundle and now that something turns up, albeit unfinished, and we can't get keys because he doesn't feel like automating them right now. Man, funk dat.

Well automatisch key distribution would requite some minimal amount of programming skill...

Yes. That too. One man indie jobs have managed to do it without no trouble. Tales of Maj'eyal, Long Live the Queen, Loren the Amazon Princess, Creeper World 3 and other similar indies have done it. We're not exactly talking EA level resources here.

^_^ That was more a jab at indie devs being artistes and the ridiculousness that automating it would require some minimal programming skills, which I assume they would have to have.

I would be patient with him if he wasn't charging $30 for an Early Access game while people wait for their keys. The fact that he's charging such an obscene amount this early is just proof that he probably regrets offering it in a bundle at all because it's fucked with his bottom line, meaning that bundle purchasers are his last priority because it cheapens the value of his game (as the keys can be resold and such by people who spent far less to get them) and he's hoping people will cave and buy the Early Access in the meantime.

Sort of. Name recognition is a huge selling point for the Story bundles, so just having books about Earthbound, Minecraft, and Portal in the top tier is more important than the actual cost of said books. As we've seen in the Humble eBook bundles, most people who are interested in these collections aren't going to take the time to research what the cheapest price for an individual book is; they're happy to just pay over the average to get all the books (e-books rarely have the huge sales that games do). The Steam key included is more of a bonus that, quite frankly, I don't see many in their target audience actually taking the time to activate.

Haha fair enough.

FWIW as I understand it, Hanako and Winter Wolves had a friend create their system for them, which is why they both use that nettle subdomain on their key generation pages, http://nettle.spikycaterpillar.com/ and http://nettle.winterwolves.net/ respectively.

Even if you are a sensitive artiste you can always get someone to rig something up for you if you make half an effort. It's really not that hard.

So the latter of the two then. Hoping that the name recognition draws in all the people who can't be bothered to look up the price. The worst part is, the bundle would probably sell better overall if it was in the lower-tier (even though I'm sure there'd be less $12 purchases, there'd be more $3 ones, easy). I'm sure Minecraft and Earthbound alone have the capability to draw in people for the $12-tier. And the books are actually worth more than $2.

The early access system is really open for abuse... and Abusers gonna abuse.
Got me there, I just can't imagine someone who thinks an early build of their game is worth $30, being happy that a bunch of people are going to get that game, and three others in development for $3 less than the one game's early access price.
