[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

Last week I went through my Wii/3ds games and put in enough codes to reach platinum status, calculating that there wasn't going to be any 10 coin post-play surveys for the Wii games. But lo and behold, I now have 10 coin post-play surveys for 4 Wii games (they expire August 23rd).

Doesn't that contradict the above message? I'm not complaining, this was a nice surprise, I just wish I had held off on entering my 3ds codes (because they could be part of future promotions like in the pokemon deal.)
Are you really surprised?

As far as the 3DS codes go, I wouldn't worry about it. The first time they did it we had to buy Dark Moon or the new Pokemon Dungeon game, which were both new releases at the time (I believe they released the week / day the promo started). The Pokemon promo was a little different, but at the same time the selection was quite random to say the least. It's hard to say if they will do a promotion like this again and if so, it's even harder to say which games will make the cut. I mean, if I had to speculate which games would have been part of the last promo, I would have said Dream Team, Pokemon X, Pokemon Y, A Link Between Worlds, New Yoshi's Island and Sonic Lost Worlds, yet only New Yoshi's Island was the only one that made the cut.

So....havent really done Club Nintendo for a while but I bought a Wii U and some 1st party Wii games recently so I have CN codes to register. When is the deadline to register them for this year's Gold/Platinum awards?

Thats funny. Half the people who post in this thread (myself included) bitch about having to do the surveys and you're all hyped to do them. xD

Yep - I'm trying to hold off. I got a stack of codes that should equal about 1000 or so points sitting in my desk drawer from yardsales, craigslist, etc. I looked at my points for this year and I'm up to about 3500+ . At the end of last summer when I realized I forgot to redeem my coins to get platinum for the year I just went and put them all on there when I was pissed off.

I think you'll get helped, since it doesn't do them any good to penalize you for something like this.
Take it from my personal experience...... Nintendo CS has no problem denying you help on the dumbest little things. I'm talking about errors regarding coins in CN showing up and crap like that. Now if they won't help you recieve a stupid $0.10 lens clothe, why would they help somebody asking for a free $40 game? Whether they legitimately got it as part of a promotion or not doesn't matter (they'll say he didn't if he didn't follow the rules to the letter). Good luck man, but I doubt you'll get anywhere.

Thanks all letting me know the date. I assume there is no point holding off on registering enough coins to get to Gold/Platinum? I see I already missed the 10 point surveys on Wii games :whistle2:(

I only register 600 coins a year or a little over depedning on what it is.

They expire so I try not to put a whole bunch in there so they all don't expire when there isn't something in the site to purchase that i want.

I came to the realization last night that I still have Wii codes that I havnt entered. Between that and however many points I get from MK8 should put me well over Platinum leaving me with enough Wii U and 3DS codes to start off next year quite healthy

I have like no points for this year. I am lazy and was wondering if I got a Wii U and like 3 or 4 games, would that put me over the top to Platinum?

I can look later but if someone knew off the top of their head that would be great : p

No. Platinum is 600 points. You'd have around 300-400 with a wii U and 3-4 games (depends on the games).

Damn. I just checked I currently have 105 points.

For games that are purchased digitally or redeemed do those count for points at all somehow?

Like I plan on taking advantage of the MK8 free game promo, I would imagine the free game in itself is all they give, not like it too would have its own registration points right?

****edit***

I have 185 overall for the year, I currently have 105 to spend oops haha

So I am only 415 from Platinum so that is pretty damn close. I think I still have Bravely Default to register too.

If you go to club nintendo a website, on the bottom of the page it says "eligible products", that will tell you the current coinage amount for each eligible product, both digital and physical. :D

But I said I was lazyyyyyy

Haha I just checked. That is awesome about digital. And it counts with redeemed codes too? I know the digital works when I buy it directly from the eShop but I suppose it makes sense then that DL codes would work as well to be registered.

With everything I am planning on getting I should be able to hit the Platinum level then. Thanks!

Though hopefully it isn't a lame poster set that will sit in the original packaging under my bed this year... haha

I've never had issues with customer service. They are always helpful.
I will admit they are (relatively) quick in that I've never been on hold for over half an hour. As opposed to something like EA/Origin, where I've always been on hold between 2-3 hours. That aside though, there's no difference. Aside from answering the most basic questions, they've never been of any help to me whatsoever (in the last 5 years). From everything from errors on Club Nintendo games not registering, to my Club Nintendo account vanishing without a trace (of course the games still read as registered :???: ) to my friend's stolen 3DS and Nintendo's inability to restore his games from his CN account, they've been completely worthless.

It's a damn shame too. I remember going to them when my copy of Pokemon Yellow didn't have a manual, and the manual that came with Metroid Fusion was missing several pages and torn up to hell, and they shipped me replacements no questions asked. Now I can't even get damn help when their website screws up.

I'm well aware Club Nintendo's CS sucks. As you might recall, I spent 2 months trying to get my MM OST replaced and they didn't even have the decency to pay for the return shipping. However, since this is just a digital voucher, which will have diminished value, no long term resale value, costs Nintendo nothing to process / ship, I can see him getting helped.

Well, in theory, there is a point in holding off registering games. Sometimes Nintendo likes to do additional promos, such as the recent buy a 3DS or 2DS and one of the following games for a free copy of Pokemon X or Y. These promotions easily blow anything Nintendo offers on Club Nintendo out of the water, so it might be wise to plan ahead. Plus, if you're anything like me, you can never predict what the future will hold. For instance, I never predicted I would get Wind Waker HD digitally, so I never did that intend to buy (did it for the physical) and lost the coins when I got a copy for like $15. I also never expected I would have a choice of New Super Mario Bros. U, Pikmin 3, WWHD or Wii Play and never did those digital intend to buys, so I got to wait a few weeks before I can redeem my MK8 voucher. I could have never guessed I would have got a digital copy of Romance Dawn either, which resulted in me being like 100+ coins over (like every year ~_~) the minimum to platinum.

Sorry man, but I don't recall. No offense but I don't read, let alone take to heart every post you make. If I did that for everyone here I'd be here 24/7 lol. But hey, at least you got your CD. I made platinum at like the end of August 2012, and instead of getting my stupid reprint of a CD I already had, my CN account mysteriously vanished and I got nothing (not to mention losing those worthless coins lol). That's one of the reasons I haven't bothered to touch CN in the last couple of years.

And yes, I called Nintendo's CS. Aside from verifying that the registration codes I had used had indeed been used on an account (which they said they couldn't identify for me lol) they were of absolutely no help at all.

But yeah, I've had extremely bad luck getting them to deal with digital merchandise too, such as the CN coins that never came up for 3 games I registered or my friend whose old 3DS was stolen and was unable to reobtain his digital collection from his CN account (he's not as big a gamer as I am, but he'd decided to "go digital" for this generation, so he easily lost hundreds of dollars worth of games). I don't know that we've ever dealt with them on any physical items (unless you count shipping out my friends 3DS).

Why would I take offense to that? Its a big thread, people have lives, the world doesn't revolve around my problems, etc. Just figured someone might recall some posts about it (especially since it lead to a heated debate about how I shouldn't hold Nintendo accountable for how their CS experiences). Anyway, thats rough losing your account, but at least you didn't miss anything good.

If it makes you feel better, this is what it took me to get my OST replaced...

Called CS and mentioned it was broken, CS said they would replace it if they have them and I didn't need to send it back. -1 month later- Called CS to verify they were out for peace of mind, CS told me they were waiting for my OST and I need to return it, he later said they would tell me what to do in 2 B days. -2 B days later- I call CS and ask wtf is going on, they tell me that I need to return it or accept it, we got into a debate because I knew I had to return it from the second guys message, but didn't from the first, he sent me to a manager to hammer it out. -manager talk- The manager and I talked about it and she said I had to return it and pay for shipping, once they get it I would be good. I asked for where to ship it and they acted like I should keep the pouch Nintendo sent me it in for 3 months incase this happens... She gave me the replacement office, told me to write a note explaining what I was doing, pay for a tracking number and anyway I sent it there. -3 weeks later- I call CS again and ask wtf is going on saying it got delivered well over a week ago. The guy told me I sent it to the wrong place, but he eventually worked it out. Like, 2 weeks after this I got my crummy OST and threw it in my drawer of worthless junk.

That happens a lot. When I called Sony about the Skullgirls voucher code they were treating me like a thief by saying I should get Encore for free, even though I did buy the original.

Thats weird. I had my Harmoknight survey not appear and they gladly reissued me it without question. The guy just said "thats weird" and then gave me the survey. xD

Ugh, I've had similar dealings with Sony, though to be fair it's always been movies and never games. But I have had movie codes (not rentals lol) suddenly disappear off my account with no way to get them back. I bugged Sony a bit about it but I never pressed the issue the way I have with Nintendo, it wasn't worth the effort to reclaim a couple of movies that I owned on DVD or could see on Netflix.

I'm hoping for another "buy a console and X game and get a free game" either before the end of the CN year or shortly after. I saved the codes from my 2DS and last few game purchases because I was already platinum. (Thanks, Steel Diver: Sub Wars!)

I prefer this Mario Kart style just buy the game and get something free promo. :)

Yeah... I would kill that dream, since it absolutely 100% WILL NOT happen.

Boring explanation stuff

The Pokemon promo ended on March 31st, which also happens to be the end of Nintendo's fiscal year. They do these promotions to drive sales and get people to exceed the platinum (600 coin) ceiling, since the promotion requires you to enter a 3DS or 2DS (100 - 160 coins) a game (like 40) and then redeem a copy of Pokemon X or Y prior to the Club Nintendo year ending. It doesn't do Nintendo any good to do another promotion for the 3DS and doing another Wii U promotion would be the literal* dumbest thing I've ever heard of, the next one will probably be with Super Smash Bros. U at the earliest.

* Due to Nintendo really pushing Mario Kart 8 and doing a B1G1 deal with MK 8, it would make a second program redundant and remove a lot of titles from being eligible. Since the big hitters like New Super Mario Bros. U, WW HD, Pikmin 3, Wii Play U and MK 8 would be off the table, it would limit the selection to Nintendoland, Super Mario 3D World, TW101, DK Tropical Freeze, Game and Wario, Luigi U, Wii Fit U, Mario and Sonic Winter and maybe some other niche Nintendo games I am forgetting about. A lot of these games have sub $60 MSRP (like Luigi U was only $30 new and I believe only $20 digitally, which would be okay to buy to go with your digital copy of NSMBU from MK8), many of them are being cleared out (TW101 is averaging like $20 atm) and most of the big games are offered with MK8, it just simply would be too much to do.

Lol I'm sure everyone else does as well. :D/

I know the promo says limit one per account or something like that, but I wonder if they would count MK digital and MK hard copy twice for the promotion. Highly unlikely but I do admit I would be tempted to buy the physical edition in addition to digital just to score two free games digitally. Anybody think redeeming the CN code on a family account would reap an addition free game?

I already hit platinum this year. I can wait on entering the system code until close to the deadline next year. As for the games, I'll probably enter those after the new CN year for the jumpstart.

Nintendo seems to do one or two major promotions a year, usually around the time of a big game. I can wait until then.

What in gods name do you need 8 CN accounts for? How are you registering that many games? Are you one of those GS employees that steals the CN inserts or something?

Been out of the loop for awhile. Did they happen to announce the reward tiers for this year? Or should I wait till June?
They announce it after the year ends I believe.
They always announce it after the year ends and even then it's hard to say how long you'll be waiting. Some years it's the next day and other years it's 15 - 20 days of bitching / moaning / hype building. Either or, someone will be mad at Nintendo.

Does anybody know how long the download codes last? I wanted to get super mario world but I don't have a wii u I'm waiting to get the mario kart 8 bundle.

Thanks!

I already had all the qualifying games but Yoshi registered and I wasn't about to buy that piece of junk.
It's not a bad game, at least not so far. I just finished World - 1, so I am assuming the difficulty will pick up like the SNES game. I know I've already had more fun with New Island than I ever had with the Yoshi's Island DS shitstain.

If nothing else, the art style is incredible.
